Game 7 of the 2021 World Series got off with a jolting start as the Halos put up a 3 spot in the 1st inning, 2 of the runs coming off the bat of a Mike Trout Triple. The Angels extended the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single from Kevin Plawecki. This pushed Urias out of the game early as the Cubs could not afford to give up more runs. The Cubs did score 2 of their own in the 2nd on a 2R HR from Kyle Schwarber.

Bottom of the 4th the Cubs showed more fight as Justin Turner had a 2-run single and Kris Bryant got a Sac Fly to give the Cubs a 5-4 lead after 4. Dinelson Lamet came into the game for the Cubs after Urias was pulled in the 2nd and was huge for the Cubs going 2.2IP with 5SO.

The 5th inning the Cubs offense continued to pound Angels pitching. As Bote got an RBI single, and Justin Turner had a 2 run double giving him 4RBI for the game. Cubs lead 8-4.

The Cubs added 2 more runs in the 6th on a Bryant solo HR and run scoring groundout by Baez. Cubs lead 10-4.

Dan Winkler entered in the 7th and allowed the Angels back in it, as Fletcher got an RBI single, Rendon got an RBI single and Brandon Morrow had to come in to limit the damage to 2 runs on the inning. Cubs lead 10-6 after 7. The Angels were down to the last 3 outs. Morrow was in the game for the Cubs and gave up 3 straight hit to start the inning. In comes Craig Kimbrel for the save, who has yet to give up a run in 11IP in the postseason. A sac fly and a single brought the score closer at 10-8, with a runner on 1st Mike Trout stepped in, 2 outs. The Cubs decided to walk him and bring the go ahead run to the plate in Jose Abreu. Abreu struck out swinging and 41,000 fans in the stadium roared in victory as the Cubs claimed the 2021 World series despite getting into a deep 3-0 deficit in the 1st inning.

GO CUBS GO, rang through the crowd and millions around the country. The Cubs were on top yet again. Many offseason questions loom, Kris Bryant (2021MVP) and Javier Baez both are set to be free agents along with the majority of the Cubs bullpen and Julio Teheran. This offseason one should be an interesting one.

    Thoughts:
The World Champion Chicago Cubs headed into the offseason with a few question marks. They knew the looming free agency of many of the core players were coming up this year. Thankfully the Cubs managed to re-sign Schwarber and Rizzo last offseason, but more expensive players came up this year. Fan favorite Javier Baez, and 2X MVP Kris Bryant.

The Cubs knew to stay under the luxury tax that they would have to let one go, and with Scott Boras as Bryant’s agent and coming off an MVP it would be extremely difficult to bring Bryant back in, and Cubs fans said a bittersweet goodbye to the Chicago legend. The Cubs were able to extend Baez long term, and looked to add some veteran leadership in the outfield. Although Justin Turner had a good year at the leadoff spot, the Cubs knew with Bryant’s departure that Turner would be more suited in the #2 spot in the lineup and they went searching for a leadoff hitter. They nabbed two veteran outfielders in Adam Eaton and Andrew McCutchen. Likelihood is they platoon the open OF spot and give off days to whoever is in need.

The Cubs were also losing a large portion of their stellar bullpen that carried them to the World Series. They were able to re-sign Kimbrel and Miller, but had to let Morrow, Soria, and Jones go. They replaced them with Givens an All-Star last year in BAL and Dellin Betances. The Cubs were extremely pleased with Teheran’s performance last year and brought him back on a 1YR deal as well. Overall, the Cubs were pleased with there offseason despite no flashy signings and a lot of older veterans. The Cubs will look forward to brining up more prospects in the coming year to help fill the gaps.

      MLB 20 Yankees Franchise

Spring training rolls on, and now that the starters are getting a larger share of playing time the team is clicking. After dropping 4 of 5 the Yanks have won 4 in a row and hold a Grapefruit League-best 13-5 record with 8 left to play before heading north.

Miguel Andujar must have heard the media chatter about his performance as he responded with a 2-4 game against the Nationals in Palm Beach. He kicked off the scoring in that game when he got ahold of a hanging change up from reigning World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg and deposited it into the grass beyond the LF wall. Mike Ford would later add a 3-run shot, and Clint Frazier would pick up a double as well to add to what has become an exciting battle for opening day DH duties.

Mike Tauchman continues to play out of his mind, and has been damn near impossible for opposing pitchers to get out. In his last 2 games he is 4 for 5 with 2 walks, a HBP, 2 home runs, a double, and 4 RBI. He has 20 hits in 40 AB’s and leads the team in every offensive category.

Needless to say the team has announced that Tauchman has been named the Opening Day left fielder. Outfield is set now with Gardner in center and Stanton in right. Judge and Hicks will be out until mid-May at the earliest as they rehab their injuries.

The Yanks “bullpen game” experiment was a resounding success, as the pitching staff nearly no-hit the Phillies at home in Tampa. The combined no-hit bid was broken up in the 9th on a leadoff single by Adam Hasely off of Aroldis Chapman. The final pitching line read like this:

      Chad Green 2.0 IP, 3 K
      Luis Cessa 2.2 IP, 2 BB, 2 K
      Jonathan Holder 1.1 IP, 2 K
      Zack Britton 1.0 IP, K
      Tommy Kahnle 1.0 IP, 2 BB, 2 K
      Aroldis Chapman 1.0 IP, 1 H

This was a strategy the team used quite a few times down the stretch in 2019. With Paxton and Severino both on the shelf, we need to be prepared to use it again if necessary. The fact that it was so successful takes some pressure off of the competition for the 5th starter role, which is expected to be decided between Jonathan Loaisiga and Michael King later this week.

Other news from around the league: Diamondbacks lefty Robbie Ray has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his forearm and has been placed on the 15-day DL. The injury is minor but he is expected to miss 1-2 months.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask but I need some advise on base running. If I have a man on 1st and one on 3rd I can’t just get the man on first to steal.

I point the left stick towards 1st and hold L2 but when I release it the man on 3rd takes off for home also. The catcher just holds the ball and it’s a easy tag out. Not sure what I’m doing wrong in the situation. Any help would be great.
Knowing me it’s probably something real simples I’m doing wrong.

Hold the left stick toward 1st like you are doing, but try just pressing and letting go of L2 opposed to holding it.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

First, playing critical moments allows you to really get through a season rather quickly. I just finished up my first series post all-star break and I've only played two full games, going 1-1 in those two games, and then simming/playing critical moments only the rest of the way.

My Bravos started off the year rough. We were under .500 for awhile, I believe it took 25-30 games until I had a .500 record. Since then, though, my team has been on fire. Here are the current standings of the NL East.

            Braves........62-38
            Nationals.....57-43
            Marlins........52-47
            Mets...........42-57
            Phillies........37-62

The Phillies actually started off the year above .500 for the first few weeks, the Marlins were the top team in the division for a good chunk of the first half, though. Once my Braves caught fire the Phillies went ice cold and the Marlins cooled off a bit.

Around the rest of the baseball world the Dodgers own the best record in baseball unsurprisingly. They sit at 72-28. The D-Backs and Rockies both sit tied for 2nd 24.5 games back. That division is already settled. The Cubs lead the NL Central by 11.5 games over the Brewers. The other three teams in that division all sit 21.0 games or more back as they are all 10+ games under .500.

The wildcard race doesn't look incredibly exciting at the moment. You have the Nationals sitting with the top WC spot. The Brewers own the 2nd spot. The Marlins sit 1.5 games back, then Arizona and Colorado are both 6.5 back. The NL looks rather weak and very top heavy this year. That could make for an exciting playoffs, though, as those top teams may just throw haymakers at one another.

On the AL side of things we see the Astros owning the best record in the league. They sit at 65-33 and are 13.0 games ahead of Oakland. The Angles are only 1.5 back of the A's, though. In the Central we have the 2nd best record in the AL with the Indians sitting at 63-37 and 6.5 ahead of the White Sox. The Twins are 1 game back of Chicago. And in the East the Sox are sitting on top. Their 61-38 record has them 3.5 games up on the Yankees. The rest of the division is below .500.

In the AL wildcard race we have the Yankees in that top spot with their 57-41 record. Chicago's 56-43 record has them 1.0 up on the Twins for that 2nd spot. The A's and Angles are 3.5 and 5.0 back respectively.

Some other notables around the league:

Anthony Rizzo owns the best average in all of baseball with a .355 average. He has also gone deep 20 times and driven in 71 runs.

Ozzie Albies surprisingly sits atop the NL with 25 HRs. Josh Donaldson has 31 and leads all of baseball. He is also hitting .325 and has driven in 66. Big time MVP candidate.

Scherzer is once again the best pitcher in baseball. He as a 10-3 record, has pitched 136.0 innings. He has 167 K's and has given up 40 free passes. He owns a 1.59 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP. Incredible year for him.

It is July 20th so the trade deadline is fast approaching. It'll be exciting to see what moves are made. I figured coming into the year I'd need to be looking for another arm to add to the rotation for the playoffs, and then an upgrade over Markakis in RF. However, my rotation has decided to really outperform expectations. Despite being in a cold spell as a unit lately my team still fields on of the best ERA's in baseball.

            Soroka has a 3.81 ERA
            Hamels....3.59
Folty.......3.07 even though he went 4.1 and gave up 7 last start in Colorado
            King Felix..3.61
Fried is the lone man out with a 4.87 ERA

Markakis is batting .261 with 13 dingers and 55 runs driven in. I think it's clear I still need one arm potentially for my rotation even though I may have 4 solid arms for the playoffs if my guys continue to perform like they have. Markakis has been okay, but he's become an okay defender at best and just just above average at the plate anymore. He's by far the weakest player on the field and in the lineup that isn't a catcher.
“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

No worries I’ll give that a go. Be good to be able to steal with a guy on 3rd.

Lindor Slam Pushes Tribe Past Twins
                Twins pen struggles in loss

                April 8, 2020
Minneapolis--- Fransisco Lindor broke out of an early-season slump with a 7th grand slam and Aaron Civale limited Minnesota’s hot bats, as the Cleveland Indians topped the Twins 6-1 to take the game three of the series on Wednesday afternoon.

Lindor, who entered the game hitting .156, was 0-for-4 coming into his seventh inning at-bat. After a hit and two walks given up by Cory Gearrin (0-1), Sergio Romo entered and Lindor rudely welcomed him with a towering shot into the right-field porch breaking a 1-1 tie. Cleveland exploded for 16 hits in the contest.

Jake Odorizzi could only watch the game fall off the edge of the earth after he kept his team in the ballgame. Odorizzi went six innings, scattering nine hits while allowing just one run. He walked one while striking out six.

Offensively, the Twins were limited by Civale, who came into the contest with an ERA north of 9.00. Civale allowed five hits and four walks in his five and two-thirds innings of work. He struck out three and lowered his ERA to 7.02.

The Twins will enjoy an off-day on Thursday before heading to Chicago to take on the division-leading White Sox, who are off to a fast 10-2 start. Homer Bailey (2-0, 0.69) will look to continue his early-season success, and the Sox will counter with veteran lefty Gio Gonzalez (1-1, 4.26). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.

Bailey Strong Again as Twins Win
Veteran goes 8 innings against White Sox

                  April 10, 2020
Chicago--- Homer Bailey continued his strong start to the season, picking up his third win in eight strong innings as the Twins pushed past the Chicago White Sox 7-2 on a windy Friday night in Chicago.

Bailey (3-0) gave up two runs and three hits in the first inning, but then settled down, setting down eight in-a-row at one point in the middle innings. He struck out four with one walk.

“I was a little uneasy in the first,” said a delighted Bailey after the game. “This lineup is tough. They have a lot of young kids that like to take aggressive swings. Once I got a feel for my fastball, my other pitches were more effective.”

Bailey’s performance was backed up by a 1-2-3 ninth for Tyler Duffer. A welcome sign for Duffey and Minnesota’s coaching staff, as it has been a struggle early on.

The Twins offense was kick-started right away, as Nelson Cruz hit a two-run shot in the top of the first. White Sox starter Gio Gonzalez (1-2) battled through the second and third innings, holding the Twins scoreless, but the Twins managed to plate a run in each the fourth and fifth innings, effectively ending Gonzalez’s night after five. He allowed four runs with three strikeouts.

Marwin Gonzalez broke the game open for the Twins in the sixth. Jace Fry entered, walked two, and then Gonzalez blasted a first pitch cutter in the leftfield bullpen to give the Twins the 7-2 lead. Mitch Garver also hit his sixth homerun in the contest.

Minnesota and Chicago will be back at it again tomorrow afternoon with a scheduled 1:10 PM first pitch. The Twins will send Jhoulys Chacin (1-0, 4.15) to the bump, while Chicago will offer up right-hander Reynaldo Lopez (1-1, 6.00).

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Playing every pitch of every game in my Braves franchise and just finished the first month of the season.

On May 4th, I have the second best record in baseball behind the Yankees.

                    1. Braves...........26-10
                    2. Nationals........20-13
                    3. Mets..............18-17
                    4. Phillies...........17-17
                    5. Marlins..........17-18

My pitching staff has been terrific so far. When Hamels returned from injury, I waived King Felix and the Cubs picked him up, so now my rotation looks like:

                    1. Soroka......(3-1), 4.31 ERA
                    2. Fried.........(6-0), 2.27 ERA
                    3. Folty.........(3-1), 2.72 ERA
                    4. Hamels.....(1-0), 0.77 ERA
                    5. Newcomb..(4-2), 2.36 ERA

I've definitely had some struggles at the dish though. Freddie Freeman leads the team at .298/.354/.638, 11 homers, and 27 RBI. Acuna is behind him at .282/.323/.503, with 7 homers, 14 RBI, and 10 stolen bases.

The rest of the lineup has struggled, but have had hot/cold stretches, so I may need to make a move to really add some more pop, but not sure who to really go after.

In the farm system, Bryse Wilson and Braden Shewmake have been the standout players in Triple-A and Double-A respectively.

Wilson is 3-1. Struck out 23 and walked 6 in 29.1 innings, with a 0.92 ERA and an awesome 0.85 WHIP.

Shewmake is slashing .302/.356/.427 with 1 HR, 11 RBI.

Because of injuries, 2019 first round pick Shea Langeliers moved up to Double-A and got off to a good start. Through his first 12 games, he's 10-33 (.303) with 1 HR, 6 RBI, and 5 walks to just 6 K's.

Would you guys rather start a franchise with LF Juan Soto or SS Fernando Tatis Jr??

Also is anyone else having the milestone bug where they say so and so broke all time he record or hit record etc? Do you have to play first game to get rid of that?

I'd say Tatis. While Soto is a better hitter, I think Tatis is the better all around player and plays a more valuable position to build around

I'm doing a fantasy draft and went with Tatis and then in the 3rd round I got LF Austin Meadows so I'm pretty happy with my decision

As we approach the trade deadline the Braves have finally made a move. This one strengthens the OF, takes Markakis out of the lineup and throws him on the bench, gets rid of a ridiculous contract, but also loses a couple of prospects.

The Atlanta Braves sent Mark Melancon and his $15 million/yr contract to Houston along with CF and SP prospects Justin Dean and Trey Riley. The loss of Dean is softened quite a bit knowing the Braves have Waters and Pache still on the way along with the fact that Acuna is still just 22. Riley was a good looking SP prospect, but the Braves have quite a few young pitching prospects that look good and let's not forget that Soroka and Fried are still young themselves and already up in the big leagues.

In return for those 3 players, the Astros sent the Braves Michael Brantley. It seems Yordan Alvarez has stolen his spot on the team and has not looked back. Brantley brings in experience and a very talented bat to the Braves organization and may be a key piece to the lineup that helps them finally get over the hump in the playoffs.

In other transaction news, in a 2-0 loss to the divison rival Washing Nationals, the Braves learned that Max Fried has torn his labrum and will miss the remainder of the season and playoffs. While you never want to see a player get hurt, Fried was the 5th man in the rotation and was struggling with consistency on the year. In response to his injury the Braves decided against calling any prospects up before they felt they were ready. They went on and signed Henderson Alvarez and have added him as the 5th man.

Also, after acquiring Brantley from Houston, the Braves went on to sign him to a 1 year extension worth $23.6 million. As long as he doesn't fall off of a cliff that should help ensure the Braves have another strong outfield next season and another very talented left handed bat in the lineup.

The Braves sit at 65-40 and are looking to grow their division lead on the Nats as the season inches closer to fall.

                                MLB 20 Yankees Franchise

                                March 19, 2020

Just a week from Opening Day in Baltimore on March 26th, which will be the earliest Opening Day in franchise history.

Roster continues to take shape as the team has officially named Jordan Montgomery the 4th starter. Montgomery has pitched to an ERA under 2 in 15 innings this spring. The team is hoping he can recapture the success he had in his rookie season of 2017, when he went 9-7 with a 3.88 ERA over 155.1 IP. He’s made just 7 starts since then after undergoing Tommy John surgery mid-2018.

The team has also informed #3 prospect Deivi Garcia that he will begin the season in the minors, likely at AAA Scranton. Jonathan Loaisiga and Michael King are the remaining candidates for 5th starter duties.

Final roster cuts are expected soon after the weekend.
