Note: I haven’t been playing that much due to an erratic sleep schedule and just hardly in the mood. Which sucks as I’m enjoying the game, but I’m getting the same feeling I did when I played MLBtS 18, which I didn’t play all too often. But we will see how it goes.

San Francisco Giants @ Minnesota Twins
      Series Result: Twins win 2-1

Game 1: This game was a back and forth slug fest. Only 2 HRs were hit but there was 31 overall hits in the game, 19 of them from SF who bottoms in the league in most offensive categories. Homer Bailey was on the mound for 6 innings, allowing 6 runs on 11 hits. Certainly not his best outing but was lucky enough to get a no decision. But the main detriment to this team was from Jorge Polanco. He had 3 GIDPs and 2 errors in the game. He did end up with an RBI double to tie the game at 6 in the bottom of the 6th, but it was an otherwise poor outing. Romero ended up with the loss as Eddie Rosario dropped a catch, that was for some reason ruled as a double instead of an error.

Game 2: The Twins ended up getting revenge for that poor outing with a 19 run, 26 hit onslaught. Polanco did bounce back, notching 3 hits and 4 runs as well as 2 walks. But he did commit another error; in the series he committed 4 errors giving him a total of 7 on the year. 7 of the 9 batters on the team had 3 or more hits. Donaldson ended up with a Grand Slam in the bottom of the 8th giving him 6 RBIs on the day. SF did end up scratching 4 runs on the board late in the game. Berrios got his 3rd win on the season.

Game 3: This one was on the same pace as the first game until the bottom of the 7th, when the Twins scored 6 runs. Odorizzi allowed 2 more HRs, being hit for 12 on the season so far. It was Ehire Adriánza that was on fire, notching 4 RBIs on 2 hits.

      ALC Standings:

      Twins 25-12, (-)
      White Sox 24-13, (1.0)
      Indians 24-16, (2.5)
      Royals 21-16, (4.0)
      Tigers 10-27, (15.0)

      Minor League Player Spotlight:

C Ben Rortvedt is playing really well in AA with a line of .291/.376/.430 with 3 HRs and 10 RBIs.

SP Jordan Balazovic is making his presence known in AAA with an ERA of .86 in just 3 starts. He also has 23 Ks and 4 BBs in 21 innings of work.

Heading into Mother’s Day weekend, we take on the Royals at home. The bulk of May is left facing division rivals, which could turn the tide in this tight division race.

Tigers Mash Three Homers in Win
Zimmerman helps end Tigers 6-game skid

            April 17, 2020
Minneapolis--- On a brisk Friday night at Target Field, Jordan Zimmerman and the Detroit Tigers took down the Minnesota Twins 7-4, ending the Tigers six-game losing streak.

Zimmerman (2-0) limited damage despite allowing six hits and five walks in his five and one-third innings. He allowed two runs and struck out four in the victory.

Offensively for Minnesota, this game is becoming the all too common theme of runners left on base.

“We are just having trouble in clutch situations right now,” mentioned Twins skipper Rocco Baldelli. “We are getting too tight in the box and not swinging on run-producing pitches.”

The Twins had had nine hits, nine walks and one hit batsman in the game, but only managed the four runs. Josh Donaldson, Luis Arraez and Byron Buxton all had multi-hit games, but only Buxton’s hit was a run producer.

            Nelson Cruz echoed Baldelli’s concern.

“We are a veteran team. We know what he have to do to make this right. We just have to execute the plan.”

Jhoulys Chacin (2-1) had his first disappointing start of the season. He did work six innings but he was roughed up for five runs on five hits, three of which were homeruns. Unlike the Twins, the Tigers came through with clutch hits.

Both clubs will meet again tomorrow afternoon. Jose Berrios (0-2, 3.28) will take the hill for the Twins and the Tigers will offer young righty Casey Mize (1-1, 4.67).

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

After seeing their 11-game win streak snap in game 2 of a two-game set against Oakland, the Braves responded by taking 3 of 4 against Colorado in a low-scoring series.

Game 1 pitted Felix Hernandez against German Marquez. The Braves struck first with a solo HR by Ozuna to start off the bottom of the 2nd. Later on in the 5th Ozzie Albies stroked a single that drove in another run to make it 2-0. Eventually in the 7th, with two outs Hernandez allowed Blackmon to get a seeing eye single that drove in Colorado's lone run. That ended Hernandez's night and the bullpen went on to shut the Rockies down the rest of the game. The Braves won 2-1.

Game 2 was a 2-0 victory for Colorado. Gray pitched 8.1 innings and tallied 10 strikeouts. Bard got the 2-out save. Alvarez went 7 strong allowing only 1 run, but the Braves offense mustered 2 hits all game.

Game 3 saw Atlanta bounce back. Mike Soroka pitched a 1-hit complete game shutout. He struck out 7 and didn't walk anybody on the game. Freeman drove in Camargo in the 1st to make it 1-0, then Duvall made it 2-0 in the 5th with a solo shot. These were the two lone runs scored all game.

Game 4 continued the low scoring trend as Atlanta picked up the win 3-1. Hamels pitched 7 strong innings only allowing 1 run, but Freeland matched him pretty well going 7 and a third allowing 2. The Rockies struck first in the 2nd picking up their lone run. The Braves didn't get onto the board until they scored all 3 runs in the 8th. The Rockies finished with 3 hits, the Braves 4.

This gives the Braves an 87-50 record. They are 4.5 games up on Washington. Up next is a 6-game road trip for Atlanta. They have an off day then travel to Washington for 3, then Pittsburgh for 3. They then are off before returning home for a series against the Mets.

This 3-game set in Washington is critical. If the Braves can win the series they'll be up at least 5.5 games with 22 games remaining, however, if Washington wins the series they can cut down the Atlanta lead to 3.5 or 1.5 games if they sweep the series. Of course, if Atlanta sweeps the series they will be up 7.5 games which is a healthy lead with 22 games remaining. With the way the two teams are playing right now I don't see either team managing to sweep the other, so this race will likely remain tight and that 4-game set between the two teams in the final full week of September will likely be a critical series that decides the division.

                May 19, 2020

PITTSBURGH (OS) -- The Chicago Cubs cranked four home runs Tuesday night at PNC Park as they stretched their winning streak to four games, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates by a final of 6-5. Willson Contreras hit a pair of homers, including a two-run homer in the top of the second inning off of Pirates starter Joe Musgrove.

Jose Quintana completed five innings, and was responsible for all five Pirates runs on the night in the no-decision. Quintana allowed just one run through the first four frames but ran into trouble in the fifth. With two outs in the bottom of the fifth the Pirates collected four hits and a walk to take a 5-4 lead. But solo homers by Willson Contreras in the top of the sixth and Javier Baez in the top of the seventh pushed the Cubs back in front as the bullpen completed four innings of shutout baseball.

Alec Mills earned his first win of the year after completing a scoreless sixth and Craig Kimbrel notched his 10th save of the season, striking out two.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Now at April 21, the Yankees keep rolling through their soft April schedule. We are 18-5 now after sweeping the Rangers and Reds. Before the final game in Texas the Yankees announced they were optioning the cold Clint Frazier to AAA Scranton and recalling 1B Mike Ford. Since then, Ford and Tauchman have been getting heavy at bats and have given the offense a jolt it didn’t even need. We’ve opened a bit of a gap in the AL East, leading over the Red Sox by 4.5 games.

Through 15 AB’s, Ford has 5 hits, 1 double, 2 HR’s, 3 RBI’s, and 5 walks. Through 14 AB’s, Tauchman has 5 hits, 3 doubles, 1 HR, 3 RBI’s, with 1 walk. For now, Ford has been moved into the everyday lineup in the place of an ice cold Voit.

We now have our first major injury of the season.
In game 1 @ Detroit trailing 5-2 DJ LeMahieu tore his hamstring diving into 2B. He will be sidelined for 1-2 months. The Yankees would rally back in the final 3 innings to win that game off a very weak Tigers bullpen. After Kahnle punched out Maybin with the bases loaded in the 8th, Voit, replacing LeMahieu at DH, gave the Yankees something to think about with a clutch 2 RBI single in the 9th to give his team a 7-5 lead. The 6 game win streak lives and becomes 7.

If the Yankees solve this in house, Wade would take a bigger role and Thairo Estrada would be called up. But they could go another direction...

Next up: 3 more in Detroit before we head back to NY for 3 with Cleveland, then after a day off the Tigers come to Yankee Stadium for another round to end the month of April.

                  News:
                  Rumor: Yankees Discussing Addison Russell
Russell is certainly a controversial player to say the least. It’s been a far fall for the former top prospect, even at his best he was never able to live up to the hype, and the big concern, his 40 game suspension last year for DV. His Cubs career would end with him being non tendered last offseason. While there’s no replacing LeMahieu’s bat, Russell could mostly replace the loss on the defensive side. His glove isn’t quite as good, and the arm is a bit shaky making him a better fit at 2B now then SS anyway. Could be a solid fill in option.

                  Rays Injury Update:
Jose Martinez - Fractured Forearm out 1-2 months
Tyler Glasnow - Fractured Arm out 1-2 months
Yandy Diaz - Shoulder Separation still out 2-3 weeks.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Braves traveled into Washington with a 4.5 game lead and they leave with a 5.5 game lead in the division with 22 games remaining on the year.

The first game of the series looked like everything was going to roll the Braves way. They got a solo HR by Acuna in the 3rd to go up 1-0. Then in the 4th Ozuna hit his own solo HR to go up 2-0. In the 5th inning Albies got a clutch two out 2 RBI single to make it 4-0. Foltynewicz was rolling and the Braves were up 4-0 going into the 6th. Folty got shaky, but finished the 6th giving up only 2 runs. Things continued to get close as Shane Greene allowed a solo HR in the 7th to make the score 4-3 in Atlanta's favor. Then in the 8th inning Marting gave up a solo HR as well to allow the game to be tied 4-4 through 8. The Braves didn't do anything offensively in the 9th and it was up to AJ Minter to force extra innings. He did not. He gave us a leadoff single to Eaton to start the inning, then ran the count full to Soto. On the 3-2 pitch his fastball caught too much plate and Soto walked the game off with a 2-run HR. Final score 6-4. The bullpen owned the loss, giving up 4 runs in across the last 3 innings of the game.

Game 2 saw Atlanta bounce back, though, as they won 6-5. This time the Nats jumped out to the 4-0 lead with a 4-run 4th inning. The Braves got back t2 in the 5th. They got 3 in the 7th to take a 5-4 lead. The Nats answered quickly making it 5-5 after 7. Yet, in the 8th the Braves answered right back with a run of their own to make it 6-5 and that would be the final.

Game 3 was another close game. The Nats jumped out 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st. The Braves tied it up in the 4th. The Nats would regain the lead in the 5th at 2-1. In the 8th inning the Braves were able to squeeze out 2 runs and take a 3-2 lead. The Nats went down in the 8th quietly. The Braves did the same in the top of the 9th. The Nats threatened in the bottom of the 9th, getting runners on the corners with 2 outs, but Will Smith held on to get the save and secure a series victory for the Braves. 3-2 was the final and the Braves were able to tack on another game onto their lead after the series.

Up next is a 3-game series in Pittsburgh before Atlanta heads back home to face the Mets in a 3 game set. They then get 1 day of rest before Philadelphia comes into town for a 3-game weekend series. Then the Braves are off once more before heading back onto the road.

Finding a way to win a series on the road is always welcome. Winning a series on the road against the team that is right on your heels in the division race this late into the year is huge. With 22 games left in the year, and 4 games left between Atlanta and Washington the season looks to have a climatic ending in the NL East at least. While the Braves get to play Milwaukee and Houston in those final other 18 games left, the Nats get to a slightly easier schedule facing the other 3 NL East teams and Baltimore. The Braves will have to continue their winning ways if they want to hold onto the division lead because the schedule sets up favorably for Washington to make up ground anytime Atlanta slips up.

Cardinals close out June with staggering 22-4 record for month

When you're hot, you're hot. And the Cardinals were just that for the month of June. The Cardinals closed out the first month of summer with a staggering 22-4 record, that saw the Cardinals win 14 straight during the month.

The Cardinals (51-30) now lead the National League Central Division by 7 games over the 2nd place Brewers, by 8 games over the 3rd place Reds, by 9 1/2 games over the 4th place Pirates, and 18 games over the last place Cubs.

The Cardinals will head into the month of July with not only the best record in the National League, but the best record in major league baseball. Not bad for a team that in April, looked to be a .500 club at best.

Here's to hoping that July proves to be just as successful and the Cardinals can head into the 2nd half of the season with a firm grip on the National League Central Division.

Thought I saved but when I fired up the game this morning im back to the nlcs game I lost. I lost the entire offseason and spring training I simulated the prior night. Ive put in 20 hours to this franchise but I almost cant bring myself to play this offseason out again.

I always save after I advance the day. Sometimes even twice in case I forgot that I saved. As an avid Pokémon player, you learn to save OFTEN. I’ve had too many times where I forgot to save after the Pokémon Center only to lose hours of progress. Same thought process goes to The Show. I know there’s an auto save feature, but I still advance the day and save just in case I feel like playing another game.

I started my Yankees franchise with 30-team control so I could mitigate the nonsensical CPU transactions .... but now I’m so invested in managing the CPU rosters that I’m considering running a purely 30-team franchise and playing with different teams each day.

Has anyone done this? I’m afraid it’ll be too overwhelming and I’ll give up on it. Would like to hear others experience if someone has done this successfully.

Just getting going with my Rockies franchise. Finished the first series in San Diego by getting walked-off in the 9th! The Padres took 3 of 4 over the weekend. The Rockies are struggling to find key hits so far. We're in LA for 3 before heading back to Denver for our Home Opener against these same Padres on Friday.

Shameless plug including lot's of pictures following all of the franchise's progression on my Twitter!
