Making a new game on a 1 year development cycle is pure insanity these days. Sports games are the last bastion. Activision only pumps out a call of duty game ever year because they have multiple development studios working on the franchise. Ubisoft ditched putting out an assassin's creed or far cry every year. Even Microsoft stopped putting out a Forza game every year despite having two development studios working on the franchise.

All that's left are officially licensed sports titles. I doubt SDS's licencing agreement with MLB allows them to miss a year. The fact that they manage to get anything done year in and year out is a testament to the pure passion and drive these developers have for what they're making.

They're not perfect. They definitely should pay less attention to DD and more to franchise. They seem to just ignore what franchise players actually want when they do add something, and there are some pretty bad legacy issues that have been around for way too long, but overall the progress this game makes year to year is actually pretty impressive.

I think what I'm trying to say is they don't deserve criticism for how much progress the game has made, that's a product of a 1 year development cycle which they probably don't have control over. They do deserve criticism for where the attention has gone.

I mean jeez, these days even the stuff they do get right for franchise players, they get it right for the wrong reasons. I remember when they introduced the fast catch and throw animations for quicker infield plays. They wouldn't stop talking about how this prevented online cheese. All I could think was "do you think we offline players don't need that? Because we do."

The additions to franchise haven't been bad either. I mean, I didn't ask for them, but now that I have them you can pry Quick Manage, franchise front page, and contract extensions from my cold dead hands. They just arrived while flying in the face of my actual wishes and ignoring legacy issues, so that kind of soured my view of them.

I respectfully disagree. Since MLB 2K left the scene, this game hasn't been pushed. You could take the last 3-4 years even and count the impactful improvements to franchise mode on 1 hand.

It's not an attack whatsoever. It's just a game. But franchise mode should be a lot more than what it is.

Yanks Take ALDS Game 1 Over A’s, Win 2-1

This was a tense one all the way through. Cole did what he was signed to a 9Y 324M mega deal to do, tossing 6 innings of 1 run ball with 7K’s. His only mistake was in the 6th, a hung slider right down the middle to C Austin Allen for a solo HR, served up so nicely that Allen nearly crushed it back to Oakland. Sean Manaea would feel the Red Thunder in the 2nd, as Clint Frazier punted a mistake slider 404ft to right for a 2 run HR. Manaea would finish with a 6 IP 2 run performance with 6K’s. A combo of Green, Kahnle, and Chapman would lock up the win with scoreless 7th, 8th, and 9th innings.

Game 2: Bauer will take the mound looking to help give us a 2-0 lead before the series shifts to Oakland. The A’s will give the ball to Daniel Mengdon as they hope to avoid going down 2-0.

      Playoff Updates:
Brewers Vs Nationals Series Tied At 1-1.
Cubs Vs Dodgers NLDS Tied At 1-1.

Indians Go Up 2-0 On Blue Jays
Cleveland will take a 2-0 lead to Toronto after winning the first 2 at home by scores of 3-1 and 4-3. In G3, the Jays will send ace Hyun Jin Ryu to the mound Vs Zach Plesac to try to keep their season alive.

        NYM @ OAK – 8-21-20

The New Mets lineup had enough of the teams lousy bullpen performance of late, and decided to take matters into there own hands. But Marcus Stroman wouldn't continue the trend of the teams starters performing well. But could Oakland strike while the irons hot? Or better to say add to the further deterioration of the pen? Could the last minute replacement Adam Frazier make an impact after Conforto was sat down vs another lefty starter?

          ****Breaking News***

After another bad performance from Michael Conforto (0 for 5) Mets Manager Marcus Estevez told reporters that Michael’s role forward will be coming off the bench in certain situations. Conforto who started the year off hitting great, but since the mild of May can’t seem to find any rhythm or consistency at the dish, he's currently hitting just .216 but does have 30 homeruns with 64 rbi, plus not a very great average with runners in scoring postion .273

Estevez add further “Michael and I had a lengthy discussion after todays game, he's a professional, he understands why this action needed to take place and we will get through this as a team"

Prior to this announcement The Metropolitans were able to take Game 2 vs the Oakland Athletics 4 to 1, behind the stellar pitching performance of Thomas Szapucki. He threw 8 1/3 solid innings while giving up just 1 run and fanning 6 along the way. Betances got the last two outs his 14th save of the season, securing the win for Szapucki, his 2nd of the year.

The Mets will send their other rookie starter, Stephen Gonsalves to the mound (2-0, 1.80 era, 1.25 whip) against the A's and Lefty Aj Puk (2-9, 5.87 era, 1.77 whip) before getting on a plane to finish off this long road trip in D.C. for 3 against the Nats.

Just out of curiosity, whats everyones take on signing free agents in the offseason? I'm about to have a ton of money come off the books Cespedes, going to trade Cano for a bag of cement. Roughly I'll be trimming 70 million. Do you all limit yourselves to a certain amount of top free agents? I have 4 to 5 areas where i need up grades. I did some pre offseason homework and am looking at Catcher (anything has to be better then what I'm getting) Any and every good bullpen arm (theres possible two to three closers hitting the market). Middle relief guys, a outfield bat, and possibly a starting pitcher.

Plus do any of you get buy extra budget space? I have an exorbitant amount of stubbs (that i dont use) and don't see a point of just letting it go to waste.

Sign away, though I'd advise caution for your own sake. Being too frisky with your money really can sink your team in the long run. You aren't going to find many top tier players willing to do a short term contract, they want to get paid in the golden years to get around the contract cap. Those contracts kill small market teams.

Stubs can turn a small market team into a big one, but I think they are more a temporary boon then a long term thing. Best I can tell, the bank added due to stubs only effect the following offseason and season. As far as I can tell, long term budgets are only effected by the natural profits. This means that using stubs creates a false surplus of income, and without the infusion of more and more stubs, a team built on stub revenue alone will eventually implode.

However, there doesn't seem to be any negative effect on the natural profits by using stubs. So feel free to use them. Just be aware that relying on them too heavily could be your undoing.

Edit: here is an example of what I'm talking about. Let's say in 2020/21 offseason you make a bunch of multi-year signings that required your sub money to sign. Then let's say you don't put in any stubs in the 2021 season.

Come 2022 you will very likely find that you are in the red and need to shed salary. This happens because your natural profits, even if they went up year to year, likely didn't catch up to the value your stubs added. Your stubs added false profit, giving you a false sense of value when you signed players. You paid over your natural profits, and since you didn't add any more stubs in the 2021 season to compensate, you're over budget.

Blue Jays 2022 Spring Training 2 week checkup

The boys in blue are off to a predictably hot start in spring, with an 8-2 record and some interesting stories developing.

                Biggest surprise: Floyd Moyer's bat

The 23 year old Alaskan switch hitter looks confident at the plate. His bat hits with good contact and power from both sides of the plate. His fielding needs a lot of work and there is some question if he can sustain this pace over a larger sample size, but he is in hot contention for the DH spot.

                Biggest Dissapointment: Joel Julio

After spending most of last season in the MLB and being one of the hottest bats in the league, Julio has looked downright awful in these first two weeks. His defense seems to have improved but that electric bat has just disappeared, so much so that he's already penciled in to be sent down. He still has most of spring to change some minds, but it's at a point now where he either needs to really turn things around or people in front of him need to start struggling.

Most hotly contested position: Starting Rotation

The Blue Jays have always had a strong rotation with lots of depth ever since TheWarmWind took over as GM, but this year looks to be one of the strongest rotations yet. Fernando Chavez looks to be back in form after suffering a fractured skull last season. Gilmore and Gomez look strong enough to keep their spots on any other team, but Baez and Blanco are hot on their tails. Blanco is a bit of a surprise. He's struggled for far too long in the Jays system, never really living up to his potential. He was too reliant on his fastballs, as his supporting pitches were too easy to spot, breaking way too early.

Seems he's really connected with the new pitching coach though, as his stuff is just electric this year. His slider especially is breaking late and very sharply. In years past it was an obvious and near useless pitch, and now he's made it his main strikeout weapon.

Baez looks even better than last year, when he won rookie of the year after starting out as an injury callup. He seems to have gained a little more control on his 98mph fastball, and that's exactly what he needed to reach elite status. Having a more accurate fireball makes all of his other pitches better.

                Mike Who?

It's hard to see the Jays without Mike Trout acting as the core of the lineup or run down balls in center, and even harder to see him be so successful on another lineup, but the void left has filled up quickly.

Jarome Mauzoul has looked rock solid in CF, exceeding Trout's ability to run down balls with fast reactions and faster feet. He's also continued his trend of insane OBP at the plate. He may not of hit any home runs yet, but the ball also seems to be jumping more off of his bat.

Trey Bloom seems even better than last year, where he went from a stereotypical #5 hitter to a bonafide 5 tool threat. He is absolutely mashing at the plate, and doing it with unprecedented poise. He'll take over as the Blue Jays main power threat, and it's not entirely crazy the think that he might bat better than Trout this year.

Both can steal bases. Both can hit home runs. Both can hit for contact and both are right handed. Seeing this makes me think that Jays fans might not miss Trout so much this year.

So you think you finally figured this game out (after playing it since the series first came out years ago) do you?

You had a thought/idea/gameplan/technique click did ya? You had a great game with 7 runs off of 11 hits (no homeruns) the game prior. The very next game your facing Scherzer and get his pitch count up high enough he gets pulled after 6. But what happens you ask? Its tied in the 8th, your offense did nothing in the top half. Well you rely on your pen (first mistake) you bring in Edwin Diaz (second mistake).

You proceed to give up 2 more runs, you can't rally in the 9th with the tying run on base. Maybe or maybe not you'll learn. But its baseball its in your blood and there's always tomorrow.

Mark Leiter shines in Spring debut

Mark Leiter made his spring debut for the Cardinals against the Marlins and he was impressive. The 22 year old pitched 3 innings, faced 10 batters, allowed a hit and struck out 7 of the 9 outs his earned over the 3 innings.

Leiter was acquired in the deal that sent Yoan Moncada to the Yankees and brought Mark Leiter and Luis Medina back to St.Louis. Leiter was added to the 40 man roster while Medina is expected to start the season in the Cards Double-A affiliate Springfield.

Cardinals place Nolan Gorman on 10 Day IL

One of the most nerve racking things about Spring Training is getting your regulars at-bats and outs in the field all while hoping they don't get hurt. Well, it happened yesterday for the Cardinals against the Marlins.

Nolan Gorman pulled up lame running to second base and has been diagnosed with a sprained ACL that will keep him out likely for 2 weeks. Gorman suffered the injury in the 3rd inning of yesterday's game against the Marlins. Gorman was replaced by highly touted prospect, Malcolm Nunez.

Matheny said after the game that he would work to get both Nunez and Paul DeJong time at 3rd base in the coming weeks just to get DeJong time there, as he's played shortstop or first this spring, and to get Nunez at bats and outs in the field. Nunez is/was expected to start the season at Memphis this year, after spending the past few seasons as the everyday 3rd baseman at Springfield.

While its a blow that Gorman will miss time to get into rhythm for the season, the Cardinals are thankful that it was just a sprain and not something worse.

The Cardinals will return to the diamond tomorrow as they play host to the Nationals.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Yankees Sweep A’s In ALDS, Win Series 3-0

We would win Game 2 by a score of 6-2. Trevor Bauer would hold Oakland to 2 runs over 5.1 IP and then a combo of Britton, Clippard, Ottavino, and Chapman took it from there. For Oakland, Daniel Mengdon held us to 1 run through 3 innings before a Gardner 2 run HR followed by a Andujar 2 Run HR broke it open.

The series moved to Oakland for a potential elimination game 3, and the A’s would take a 1-0 lead into the 8th seeming set to force a game 4. That is until, Tyler Wade stole 2B after pinch running for Gary Sanchez. An Urshela fly out would hold up Wade at 2B. Then with 1 out Clint Frazier would line one into CF scoring Wade to tie it at 1-1. Then in the 9th we got 2 more across to take a 3-1 lead. Chapman would come on to try and close out the series, and then mysteriously left after just 2 pitches with an undisclosed injury. Instead, Kahnle would slam the door to send us to the ALCS.

                      ALCS Opponent Coming soon...

                      News:
Dodgers Advance To NLCS, Win Game 5 Over Cubs
LA moves on as expected, even without Cody Bellinger, but the Cubs came VERY close to pulling off the huge upset. Chicago took a 2-1 series lead into game 4 at home. In a matchup of Buehler Vs Hendricks, The Cubs found themselves 3 outs away from the NLCS holding a 3-2 lead in the 9th. Kimbrel would enter looking to send home the 108 win Dodgers, and instead, he choked away the NLDS giving up 2 runs. Dodgers Win 4-3.

Game 5 was back in LA, Kershaw vs Quintana, the momentum swung to LA. Leading 3-0 in the 8th the Dodgers broke it open with a 6 run inning. Kershaw finished with 8.1 IP, 2 ER, and 10 K’s. LA Wins 9-2.

Nationals Advance To NLCS, Defeat Brewers In Game 5
Down 2-1, Milwaukee would force a game 5 with a 4-1 Win in DC.
Game 5 back in Milwaukee was a rematch between NL MVP and NLCY Young Winner Max Scherzer and Brandon Woodruff. Mad Max would go 7.1 IP, allowing just 1 run. Woodruff only went 5 IP allowing 2 runs. In the end Nats Win 3-1.

"Due to a power failure the season has officially been put on hold" said the Mets General Manager. "We hope to resume play by this weekened, maybe buy next Tuesday at the latest." This is unfortunate news as the team was heating up offensively wise. Hopefully this won't freeze the pace the team was currently attaining. Stay tuned for any further developments.

On a serious note.. It seems my power supply on my Pro doesn't wanna fire up. (God i hope its that simple of an issue). I ordered a new power supply and repair tools. So hopefully it gets here by then (Amazon told me it be here by Sunday so). And I'm not buying a new/used one for more then what I paid for the one I have. And who knows when I will be able to secure a PS5.

It's possible you'll fix it and it will be fine, but I would prepare for the worst. Power supplies can take other parts with them when they go. Do you have PlayStation plus to back up your saves?

Yes i do. Plus a portable hard drive. So all my games are on that. Its been acting up for a bit, so I'm pretty sure its the issue. Plus apon further inspection the plug on the sytem seems loose when i connect the cord. So I'm pretty sure i can fix it.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
