Honestly I forgot to offer him arbitration.

When I was doing arbitration offers I stopped to see what my dog was barking at and when I got back to it I advanced the day and realized I didn’t offer him.

The plan was to sign and trade, but I forgot to do the sign part.

Oh man, haha. I hope the media doesn't get wind of this! I vaguely remember the Pirates GM in the late 80s/early 90s putting a player (Carmelo Martinez maybe?) on the wrong kind of waivers and then having to trade him or lose him to a claim.

I'm still celebrating our World Series title

Good on you for not going back to reverse it.

I remember back in 2009 when the GM of the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL), Dale Tallon, missed the deadline for issuing qualifying offers to 8 of his restricted free agents.

He ended up signing them all, but there's potential that it probably cost the team a bit more than they would have had to spend if it had been done properly.

          It happens!

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

So, I'm almost done with my 2020 Tigers Season, and man has it been a challenge. They're currently 51-85, and are 20 games behind first place. Cameron Maybin, who had a breakout year with 25 Homers, tore his ACL while running the bases. And Jordan Zimmermann has 1-12 record, and was placed on the IL with a fractured forearm.

Meanwhile, Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal, and Daz Cameron have all made their debuts, and they have been amazing.

Mize went 7 2/3 with 9 strikeouts in his debut, but ended up with a no decision. Skubal took the loss in his debut, but he only allowed 2 runs in 6 innings with 7 Ks. Daz Cameron, who was called up after Maybin's injury hit a triple in his 1st MLB at bat, and made a diving catch to seal a win against the Royals.

Also, Buck Farmer and Joe Jimenez have been holding their own, as they each have 13 saves.

Up 2-0 in the World Series vs the Twins. Clevinger vs Odorizzi will be game 3 in Minnesota. Mitch Moreland has been a monster this series and has to be the WS MVP if things stay course. Game 1 he was 3-4 and a triple shy of the cycle, his HR was a 3run shot. Game 2 he was 3-5 with 7 RBIs!

                  Jay’s Cubs Wrap Up: 2024

Cubs Wrap Up Their First Homestand of the Year Against the Padres

The Padres were set to play 4 against the Cubs. these two teams matched up for the first time since the NLCS where the Cubs outlasted the Padres. Lucceshi and Lamet are gone from this Friars club but they made additions to the line up as they added Whit Merrifield at 2nd and Yasiel Puig moved from ATL to be the everyday right fielder for San Diego. The Cubs were able to take game 1 9 to 4 as they used a big 4th inning when they batted around and Oscar Colas was solid going 6 innings and only giving up 2 runs while striking out 5.

In the second game AJ Puk looked to bounce back from a rough first outing and he was solid until the 6th inning when he gave up a 3 run home run to Tommy Pham that let the Friars take the lead. The Padres would 3 in the 8th as Clase was in and had gotten 2 outs but allowed 2 men on with a hit and hitting a batter. Puig was up and Clase got the Puig to pop up to right but Oscar Colas went for the dive to end the inning and missed it. The ball would bounce to the ivy and allow Puig to plate 3 with an inside the park home run. The Cubs could only muster 1 run in the 6-1 loss.

In the 3rd game Jacob DeGrom took the mound. The Cubs looked like they would be rolling early as they loaded the bases with no outs in the 1st but could only get 1 run. Contreras was able to add more with a 2 run home run in the 4th and Reyes added 2 more in the 8th on a 2 run double. Degrom gave up 2 solo home runs in 7 innings but fanned 10 batters in the 5-2 victory.

In the final game the Cubs looked for the series win with Hendrick on the mound. Hendricks continued his hot start as he went the full 9 innings and only gave up 4 hits while earning the shut out. The Cubs offense came in the back half of the lineup as they scored 3 runs on doubles by Brennan Davis and Nico Hoerner as they cap the series 3-0.

Cubs Head To Cincy For the First Time In The Young Season.

The Reds have struggled to start the year and sit at 5-8 on the year. Cody Bellinger was their big free agent signing has struggled in the early part of the season as he is hitting under .200. The Cubs had Brailyn Marquez on the mound. Marquez has gotten better in each of his starts this year and put it all together in his 3rd start. The Cubs got their 2nd complete game shutout as the young left hander gave up 1 h and 2 walks while striking out 8 in the 2-0 win. The Cubs scored first in the 6th on a RBI single by Baez and in the 8th Brennan Davis bunted to get on and Kris Bryant just missed a home run as he bounced one off the left field wall.

In the 2nd game of 3 the Cubs had Adonis Medina in for a spot start. Medina only went 3 innings in his first start but had appeared in another game in relief work. Medina needed to impress as the Cubs have some arms on the farm that are itching for him to struggle so they can get the call up. Medina was solid as he went 6 innings and struck out half a dozen while not giving up a run. Chicago was powered by 3 home runs with Rizzo Bryant and Hoerner going yard. The bullpen was sharp with the extra rest and kept the Reds scoreless once again as the Cubs got the victory, 4-0.

In the final game of the series the Cubs kept the great pitching going as Oscar Colas went against the Reds other big free agency splash in Julio Urias. The game was the feature for Sunday Night Baseball and did not disappoint as both pitchers were dealing. Colas had the Reds lineup flustered all night especially in the 3rd and 4th innings when he struck out 7 straight batters. Javy Baez was the hero at the plate as he would drive in the only run of the game. Baez has gotten off to a slow start and is currently hitting .176 but was able to plate a double in the 5th for just his second hit in the series. Colas started the game not fully rested as he split time in the week in right field but was able to get through 8 innings with ease. Colas started the 9th but was running on fumes & gave up a double to start the bottom half of the 9th. The Cubs started to warm up Clase but left Oscar and he was able to get to fly outs to get back on track. Puig was the last hope for the Reds but he missed on a low and outside cutter as Rizzo was able to track it down and tough 1st for the Cubs 3rd complete game shutout in 4 games. The Cubs get the sweep and their 5 win in a row; The Cubs bats have struggled to start the year but the timely hitting has picked up and they have been added by the Cubs rotation and bullpen that ran the scoreless streak to 27 innings. The Cubs will have a travel day before heading out west to face the Padres.

Yankees Vs A’s ALDS Set To Begin

The series kicks off at Yankee Stadium for the first 2 games before moving to Oakland and if needed, then it’s back to the Bronx for a game 5.
                      Projected matchups:
G1 Gerrit Cole Vs Sean Manaea
G2 Trevor Bauer Vs Daniel Mengden
G3 Masahiro Tanaka Vs Frankie Montas

Giancarlo Stanton To Return For ALCS If Yankees Advance?
Stanton is expected to be fully recovered from a Fractured Wrist in just 1-2 weeks, and his IL stint ends in 6 days. If we advance and he does return there will likely be a decision to make of who is removed from the playoff roster to open a spot.

Jays Topple Twins With Clutch 4 Run Rally In The 9th
Trailing 4-2 down to their final 3 outs with their season on the line, Toronto would storm back with 4 runs off Twins Closer Tyler Duffey and went on to win 6-4, stunning a packed house in Minnesota.

Cubs Slip Past Braves With 1-0 Win
Still tied 0-0 in the top of the 9th, Kris Bryant would launch a solo HR to give Chicago a 1-0 lead they would hold on to. An embarrassing end for Atlanta being shut out at home in an elimination game.

Mets Pen can't stop refuelling the fire!!

                        August 20th 2020

Looking to taking two out of three from the Angels, the Mets stumble out of the block as Dylan Bundy and his copious amounts of soft tossing pitches kept the Mets in check. That was until the 4th inning, trailing by a run Jeff McNeil led of the frame with a solo blast (398') his 21st of the year. With one out in the inning Alonso followed suit by sending one to center his 42nd. Then with the bases loaded Brandon Nimmo hit a sac fly driving in the third run to put the lead to 2. In the 5th JD Davis lead off the inning and while going down 0-2, he also hit one over the Right center field wall to make it 4-1. Pete Alonso stepped to the plate with two outs in the 5th and crushed his second of the game to give New York a comfortable 5-1 lead.

Not to be out done, the Angels got a double from Matt Thaiss, he would eventually move over to third and looked to be stranded there till Luis Rengifo stepped up and dinged on off the RF foul pole to cut the Mets lead to 2 runs, it was the 5th of the season for Luis.

Noah Syndergaard who didnt pitch all that terrible got into a jam again in the 6th but was able to get a desperately needed double play ball off the bat of Justin Upton.

With both starters out of the game it would stay as we stood till the eight inning when finally Mr MVP would make his presence felt, with no outs and a man on he hit a tying two run jack to center of Adam Ottavino.

Neither team would amass any offense in the 9th frame so we got some free baseball. In the tenth Dominic Smith drove in the Mets 6th run of the game.

So with the rotating door for the closers position in comes Michael Givens to try his hand at the role, and it wasnt much of a hand. After letting the Angels tie the game Givens proceeded to make the collapse official. Tommy La Stella stepped up next and trounced any notion the Mets had of thinking they could get out of the inning by hitting a 3 run bomb to walk if off for Halos.

After the game Mets Manager Estevez was asked who in the pen can he rely on to close out games for the rest of the season? He replied "Your guess is as good as mine". The two blown save opportunities put the Mets total to 22 for the year, 4th worst in the NL and 8th in the majors.

The Mets (78-49) will take this circus act on to Oakland (69-58), where they will try to keep their ever decreasing lead on first place. They are currently 7 games up on the Nationals. The A's are are 10 back of the first place Angels but are only one back in the Wild Card Race. Marcus Stroman takes the bump looking to improve apon his 11-6 record with a 3.44 era. While Oakland will counter with Jesus Luzardo whos currently 4-7 with a 4.84 era. Can any Mets relievers figure out how to end a game properly before September gets here and things get tighter? Just guess will have to wait and see.

Mets Take Series, Finish Month of June on a High Note
                          June 29, 2020

The Mets were able to go into Texas and take 2 of 3 from the Rangers to cap off a very god month of June.

Game 1 featured another almost-collapse by the Mets bullpen. Luckily, their offense had staked them enough runs to come away with a 9-8 win.

The Rangers controlled Game 2, holding a 3-0 lead for most of the game. The Mets got a run back in the 8th with a sac fly, and then RF Braxton Davidson tried to play the role of hero. He took a 3-2 slider with 2 outs in the top of the 9th over the right field fence, his 10th home run of the year, to tie the game. Unfortunately, RHP Louis Elias would give up back to back doubles in the bottom of the inning and the Rangers would walk off with a 4-3 win.

Dakota Chalmers continued to show why he's a future ace in the finale. He completely shut the Rangers down. Chalmers through a complete game, giving up only 3 hits while striking out 5, and he did so on only 91 pitches. He's also the first Mets pitcher to 10 wins.

The Mets finished the month with a 17-9 record, pushing their overall record to 55-32. The Mets will get a day off before starting the month of July in San Francisco to play the Giants. Then they'll finish up with the Angels and Braves at home before the All Star Break.

                          NL East Standings:

                          New York Mets - 55-32
                          Miami Marlins - 47-39 (7.5 GB)
                          Philadelphia Phillies - 44-43 (11 GB)
                          Washington Nationals - 42-45 (13 GB)
                          Atlanta Braves - 38-48 (16.5 GB)

Yesterday I finished my 162 game season. Every pitch of every game. Tigers finished 77-85 on legend difficulty using my slider set. Truly remarkable how accurate this game can get with the right setup. At the same time, there's so much more this game should be by now.

Maybe you're right, the game should be more than it is by now, but I'm prepared to give the devs a lot of leeway.

Making a new game on a 1 year development cycle is pure insanity these days. Sports games are the last bastion. Activision only pumps out a call of duty game ever year because they have multiple development studios working on the franchise. Ubisoft ditched putting out an assassin's creed or far cry every year. Even Microsoft stopped putting out a Forza game every year despite having two development studios working on the franchise.

All that's left are officially licensed sports titles. I doubt SDS's licencing agreement with MLB allows them to miss a year. The fact that they manage to get anything done year in and year out is a testament to the pure passion and drive these developers have for what they're making.

They're not perfect. They definitely should pay less attention to DD and more to franchise. They seem to just ignore what franchise players actually want when they do add something, and there are some pretty bad legacy issues that have been around for way too long, but overall the progress this game makes year to year is actually pretty impressive.

I think what I'm trying to say is they don't deserve criticism for how much progress the game has made, that's a product of a 1 year development cycle which they probably don't have control over. They do deserve criticism for where the attention has gone.

I mean jeez, these days even the stuff they do get right for franchise players, they get it right for the wrong reasons. I remember when they introduced the fast catch and throw animations for quicker infield plays. They wouldn't stop talking about how this prevented online cheese. All I could think was "do you think we offline players don't need that? Because we do."

The additions to franchise haven't been bad either. I mean, I didn't ask for them, but now that I have them you can pry Quick Manage, franchise front page, and contract extensions from my cold dead hands. They just arrived while flying in the face of my actual wishes and ignoring legacy issues, so that kind of soured my view of them.

Cardinals set to begin defense of World Series championship

The offseason and winter meetings have come to a close and the Cardinals are heading to Florida to begin the 2027 campaign and the defense of their 12th World Series Championship they won last year.

The Cardinals really didn't do too much this offseason that would change the makeup of this club. They traded Moncada to the Yankees for prospects and Josh Rogers to the Angels for prospects. They let Andrew Knizner hit the open market, but that was really the biggest moves this team made in the offseason.

The Cardinals did go all out in repair and deepening their bullpen and pitching staff. The trade with the Yankees acquired them Jack Leiter and Luis Medina, two highly regarded pitching prospects. They signed several free agent arms for the pitching staff, Ricardo Rogriguez, Sam Gaviglio, Jose Quijada, Kevin Ginkel, and Austin Gomber to add depth to the staff, primarily the bullpen. They retained their top level arms in the pen, only losing Jonny Venters who decided to hang up his cleats after the championship run.

The Cardinals brought back fan favorite Kolten Wong to play 2nd base and welcome back Juan Fabregas from the IL. They didn't trade Eddie Ortiz as many thought they would, instead Ortiz has agreed to platoon/bench role with Fabregas and Bleday. They signed Bleday, the World Series MVP, to a 3 year deal. They gave Devon Snow a 4 year deal to the be the everyday catcher. They re-signed Michael Wacha to provide leadership in the clubhouse.

But that was the extent of the Cardinals offseason. The entire coaching staff has returned, aside from Omar Canon, who retired as 1st base coach. Enter Bob Melvin to coach first base now.

The Cardinals return a vast majority of what won a title last year and with the Cubs and Reds going all out this offseason, it was important the Cardinals not fall off. Heck even the Brewers and Pirates took some swings this winter, but both are likely a year away from really competing for the division.

The Cardinals are heading to Florida and into the 2027 as a betting favorite to win the World Series again. Are they the favorites, likely not with what the Giants and Yankees did this offseason, but they have to be in the top 5 considering they return all but a few pieces that won the whole thing last year.

The new season is upon us. And the quest to repeat and win our 13th World Series title starts in Florida.

                                Let's do this!
