Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Yankees take 2 out of 3 from weakened Astros, now sit at 33-14

Game 1 was a massacre as the Astros hammered Clarke Schmidt for 7 runs over 4 IP. Verlander was his usual dominant self, holding the Yankees to just 1 run over 7 IP striking out 12. By time it was over, Astros won by 11-1.

Game 2 was a great pitching duel between Cole and McCullers. McCullers held the Yanks to 2 runs through 6 before handing it off to his bullpen. Houston was able to scratch 1 across in the 6th to cut it to a 2-1 game. With an off day coming that will give him an extra rest day, Cole was able to convince his manager to leave him out there and let him push his limits. Cole would leave after allowing a lead off single in the 9th finishing the day with 1 run allowed through 8 IP with 11 K’s.

Interestingly, Boone would turn the game over to Clippard instead of Chapman. A few at bats later....tying run on 3rd winning run on 2nd with 2 outs...up steps 2017 AL MVP thief Jose Altuve....Clippard catches him off guard with 2 strikes freezing him with a up and away fastball to strike him out looking to end it!!! Yankees win 2-1!!!

Game 3. We repaid the favor from game 1, winning 9-3. Big day from Mike Ford as he finished with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s and a HR.

Next Up: After a day off we head to Milwaukee to face the 30-18 NL Central leading Brewers, before heading home to NY to take on the lowly 15-34 Mariners for 3 games. Then the 29-19 Twins come to town in a potential early playoff preview for 3 games.

    News:
    Injury Updates
Yankees Aaron Hicks due back in 2-3 weeks
Domingo German due back in 1-2 weeks.

Yankees Option DH/LF Daniel Palka, Recall OF Mike Tauchman
Palka was expected to remain on the roster until Aaron Hicks return, but got off to a very ugly start going 0-13 with 9K’s.

Breakout For Brewers SP Josh Lindblom
Since returning to MLB after a dominant 2 year run in the KBO, his results have carried over. The 32 year old owns a 1.76 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP through 56 IP. In his next start he will be taking on Yankees JA Happ in game 2 of that series.

Quick question, is it possible to import a player and add them to RidinRosters “Longball and Legends”? When I try it only gives me the original 2020 franchise roster to import the downloaded player.

I normally make an add or two if needed via FA before the season starts. Normally wait until the draft and see what way my season is going. Might make a minor trade or two, but any large deal I’m waiting for the all star game / deadline.

For example: I signed Vizcaino and Tuivialla before the season started. One is on the DL for a couple of months as he’s rehabbing IRL. The other has been up and down from AAA. I figured Vizcaino could help me later in the season as bullpen is a weakness for me.

Right now I’m looking to contend for a playoff spot and after a month are tied with the Yankees for first. If I stay in contention, I few targets I have my eye on are Lindor, Pederson, Merrifield.

If I slip and it’s not looking promising, I will look to sell off and make room to finish the season with younger talent.

Mets lose the last 2 of 3 against the Padres

Mets lose game 2 5-3. Lucchesi of the Padres pitched tremendously, going 7 and 2/3rds for no ER's and 11 SO's (9-5). deGrom took the loss giving up 3 ER in 7. The Mets bats did not show up again as they were down 5-0 going into the 9th after 2 runs were given up by reliever Porcello in the 8th. They managed to make a slight comeback scoring 3 runs off Alonso and Cespedes HR's but it was too little to late.

In game 3, the Mets lost 4-3. It was a back and forth game throughout with Alonso starting inning 1 with his 4th HR of the series to make it 2-0. But Syndergaard did not pitch well giving up 3 runs over 5 and a third. After a 3-3 tie, the Padres took the lead in the 8th off a Tatis Jr. RBI. The Mets had a chance in the last inning with a runner on first and Ramos up, but after a throwing error by the Padres 3rd baseman to 2nd base, Castro was SO SLOW the 2nd basemen still had enough time to gather himself and throw out Castro at first. The Atlanta Braves have been red hot winning their last 5, and the Mets lead is now at 7.5 heading into the last day of June.

In good news, Pete Alonso is now at 41 HR's going into July.

Mets stand at 59-25. A 9 game stretch awaits, first up the Giants at home.

I mean, you're the one playing with them right? Assume you're not simulating games..

I would say maybe 3-4 series, so like 12-15 games and then I'd move swiftly with trades. In terms of benching, I'd give it like 2 series and just tinker and look at their morale. Sometimes even if a player is unhappy w a platoon or bench role, the other attributes still keep their morale high enough to not affect ratings.

For instance w my Mets franchise, Stroman just wasn't a good fit with my style of play. Same with Matz who doesn't have a FB. I ended up trading them for Corey Kluber, Andrew Haney and Lance Lynn. All 3 fit much better w my style of play.

                  Bombs Away...Again!
                  Twins homer thrice in win

                  May 5, 2020
Minneapolis--- Jose Berrios got another no-decision but the Twins’ hit three long balls as they beat the San Francisco Giants 5-3 on Tuesday night at Target Field.

Berrios is still winless on the season. He allowed the Giants to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth, but in all he went five and two-thirds innings allowing three runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out three. Devin Smeltzer (2-1) got the final out in the sixth and earned the win facing just one batter.

The Twins were out to an early 3-1 lead as they got a solo shot from Alex Avila and a two-run homer from Miguel Sano. The Giants stormed back in the sixth with two runs, but Minnesota added one in the sixth on a solo bomb from Nelson Cruz, and one more run in the seventh to seal the victory.

Taylor Rogers pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save on the season.

Minnesota, who has won seven straight home games at Target Field, will go for the sweep tomorrow. Kenta Maeda (5-2, 2.40) will go for win number six, while San Fran will send veteran lefty Drew Smyly (1-2, 4.17) to the bump. First pitch is at 12:10 PM.

Cardinals swept by Cubs. Have lost 9 of last 10

The Cardinals (73-49) struggles continue as they were swept by the Cubs in Chicago to start of the week. The Cardinals just keep finding ways to lose a game whether its the bats being cold, starting pitchers getting into early jams/trouble, or the bullpen blowing late leads.

The only silver lining to this mess is that the Brewers and Reds have been equally as bad so the Cardinals lead in the division is still 9 1/2 games over the Brewers.

Speaking of the Brewers the Cardinals will travel to Milwaukee for a 4 game series with the Brew Crew as they can really take a stranglehold on this division, or they can make the last 6 weeks very interesting.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

So just make one or two big blockbuster trades instead of 5-6. Or limit yourself to 1 trade a month then adjust.

Even ratings wise it just matters how the players play in relation to your style of game.

Are you more a contact hitter? Do you prefer guys who have a lot of SO's but have opportunities constantly for HR's? Do you shuffle through a lot of RP's or can rely on your starters to go 7+?

I personally am quick on the trade trigger bc I get sick of losing if I'm trying to contend OR you can go the opposite and trade totally for the future which is rather time consuming

WORLD SERIES 2023: ANGELS VS CUBS

                            Game 1: Jose Berrios (15-11, 3.59ERA) VS Shohei Ohtani (18-5, 2.51ERA)

Classic pitching duel among aces in game 1 of the world series in Los Angeles. Berrios has been fantastic this season and continues to do so in the World Series.

Berrios went 8.1IP and was taken out after giving up a hit in the 9th. Berrios did not give up a single run all game and only needed 3k’s to get that far.

Ohtani went 7IP of scoreless baseball with 5K’s.

8th inning it was a tie game thanks to the two aces, until Javier Baez cranked a solo HR off RP Kenyan Middleton which gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead, Chapman closed out the last couple outs of the 9th.

                            Cubs win 1-0

                            Cubs lead series 1-0.

                            Game 2: Dinelson Lamet (10-10, 4.77ERA) VS Robbie Ray (8-7, 3.80ERA)

Game 2 quickly saw Dinelson Lamet’s 18 scoreless playoff innings end in a hurry. The Halo’s hit 2 solo hr’s in the 1st to take an early 2-0 lead over the Cubs.

The Cubs answered in the 2nd inning with a 2 run double by Adam Eaton tying the score at 2-2.

The Cubs tacked on another run in the 3rd with an RBI single from Javy Baez which gave the Cubs the 3-2 lead through 3. The next run came in the 6th off the bat of Henry Browning hitting a 420 foot solo HR to extend the Cubs lead to 4-2.

The Cubs tacked on even more insurance in the 8th with a Solo HR from Schwarber and another RBI from Baez VIA a sac fly. Cubs lead 6-2.

Lamet was great after the rough 1st inning, he went 6IP, 2ER and 8K’s. Continuing his dominant and legendary postseason.

The Cubs bullpen was back on track keeping the Halo’s scoreless the rest of the game.

                            Cubs win 6-2.

                            Cubs lead series 2-0.

                            Game 3: Julio Urias (9-10, 3.82 ) VS Griffin Canning (12-6, 4.11ERA)

Game 3 saw possible impending free agent Julio Urias take the mound for the Cubs who has been solid so far in the postseason. While Griffin Canning was looking to avoid a 3-0 deficit in the series.
The Cubs got on the board first with an RBI single from Mitch Haniger in the 2nd inning and tacked on another run in the 3rd on a RBI groundout from Rizzo that scored Adam Eaton.

Baez gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead in the 6th with an RBI single that scored Henry Browning. Julio Urias was pitching excellent and the Angels finally got to him in the 7th putting up a 2 spot and cut the lead to one.
Kyle Schwarber made sure to extend the lead with a solo HR in the 7th continuing his amazing postseason performance. Cubs lead 4-2.

Urias left after the 7th inning having gone 7IP, 2ER, 4K’s and in line for the win. The bullpen did the rest of the work, and despite a Phillip Ervin solo HR off Aroldis Chapman in the 9th the Cubs did not let the Angels get within striking distance. Cubs are dominating the series.

                            Cubs win 4-3

                            Cubs lead series 3-0

                            Game 4: Kyle Hendricks (15-10, 2.88ERA) VS Jaime Barria (9-4, 3.47ERA)

In what could be his final outing in a Cubs uniform longtime Cubs Kyle Hendricks wanted to make sure he went out with another legendary postseason performance. This time, it was a chance to yet again be the starter in the deciding World Series game. A position he held when the Cubs won in 2016.

Unfortunately for him and the Cubs, that did not happen. Hendricks got rocked early very similar to his NLDS start earlier in the postseason. He lasted 2IP giving up 7 runs and almost instantly made the game out of reach.

The Cubs were able to muster 4 runs across the game, but the Angels broke free and scored 15 runs on 16 hits and easily won this won.

Angels are showing some fight and avoid the embarrassing series sweep.

                            Angels win 15-4

                            Cubs lead series 3-1

                            Game 5: Jose Berrios (15-11, 3.59ERA) VS Shohei Ohtani (18-5, 2.51ERA)

Jose Berrios will go down in MLB postseason history. Up to this point he has had one of the greatest postseasons from a starting pitcher in MLB history, and he added to the resume tonight.
Ohtani yet again was good as he was in game 1, going 6IP, 1ER, 6K’s. A Schwarber double in the 2nd inning was the lone run scored on Ohtani. Berrios was just as good, and through 5 innings had yet to give up a run. The 6th inning saw Ohtani help his own cause and put his team on the board with a solo HR tying the game at 1-1 through 6.

That was it for Ohtani as the bullpen came in and immediately gave up 2 more runs to the Cubs thanks to a 2RHR from Schwarber. Schwarber has been the Cubs best hitter this postseason and put the offense on his back yet again in this one.

The Cubs put the game away in the 8th putting up a 3 spot with Rizzo getting an RBI single, Baez scoring on a wild pitch and Haniger lining a single that scored Rizzo, Cubs lead 6-1 after 8.
Berrios was still in the game in the 9th, looking to cap a monumental postseason. He did get scored on in the 9th via a Rendon single, but he stayed in and finished it out and won the Cubs the game and the WORLD SERIES.

The Cubs felt as if they needed an ace in the offseason and here he was on the mound not only throwing a complete game and winning, but putting together a jaw dropping statline in the entire postseason.

                            Cubs Win 6-2

                            Cubs Win Series 4-1

                            CUBS WIN WORLD SERIES!!!!

                              Notable Postseason Performers
                              Jose Berrios 5GS, 2-0, 39.1IP, 0.92ERA,
                              Dinelson Lamet 3GS, 3-0, 24IP, 0.76ERA
                              Kyle Schwarber .349AVG, 43AB’s, 6HR, 12RBI, 1.229OPS (MVP) (ALSO WON IN 2021)

                              Thoughts:
Even though the Cubs won the world series, the offense was not very good in the postseason. They hit .236 as a team with a .293OBP.

The Cubs won this one through pitching, amassing a 2.83ERA in the postseason with 3 complete games and a bullpen that held it together. Kyle Schwarber was the ONLY hitter on the team to hit over .265.
Overall, it got the job done as the Cubs were never in worry and were able to win there 2nd world series in 3 years, an impressive feat especially after missing the postseason in 2022.

The Cubs enter the offseason yet again as champs, but unlike last time they do not want to suffer a relapse like they did last time. They have a lot of players that are expiring, including 3/5 of the rotation (Urias, Lamet, Hendricks) which is the main reason they won the championship.

The Cubs also face the possibility of losing starting CF Adam Eaton and CP Aroldis Chapman to FA as well. For now, the Cubs will celebrate making the right moves and winning yet again. Soon, they will have to make tough calls on the team moving into 2024.

With me being in year 5 of the franchise, I think I will do a post after the offseason that will showcase alot of my young guys I have drafted over the years that are contributing to the MLB team. Be on the lookout for that.

I had manually injured him for the first month of the season and he’s just returned and played his first game. A scoreless 8th to hold a 1-0 lead. Hopefully he can help provide a reliable end of the bullpen option for me and insurance for the 9th. I’m worried in case Giles gets hurt.
