Matheny to bench Jo Adell for the Nationals series

Manager Mike Matheny stated this morning that outfielder Jo Adell will not be in the starting lineup during the 4 game series as the Cardinals hope that sitting down for a few days will help the 26 year old get out of his own way and out of the major slump he is currently in. Adell is hitting just .224 right now, but does have 20 homeruns and 71 RBI's on the season, but his average has continued to plummet. When the month of April ended, Adell was in the Top 3 in the National League in batting average at .332 on the year. Since then, it has steadily dropped and after the all-star break it has been a free fall.

Matheny made it known this is not a punishment nor a permanent move, but rather a chance to take the pressure off the youngster with both Fabregas and Rendon on the IL. Adell is out of options so sending him to Memphis isn't an option as there is no way he would clear waivers.

Eddie Ortiz is expected to be the everyday right fielder for the series.

          Brantley Be-Gone

Also on the team's second off day of Spring Training Michael Brantley is the next domino to fall following the imposed forced trades on the Timbers, formerly the Astros, organization. Timbers GM Robert Osmond announces that the team has agreed to trade Michael Brantley to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Timbers are sending LF Michael Brantley to the Dodgers in exchange for LF A.J. Pollock, CF D.J. Peters, and RF Chris Taylor.

A Trip Around the League: MightyMaxxx13’s COVID-free MLB 2020 Season Simulation

            April 10, 2020

            Orioles 7, Pirates 4
O’s tee’d off in this one for 17 hits in another embarassing loss for the Buccos. Chris Davis was the biggest contributor with 3 hits including a triple and 4 RBI’s. 7 Orioles tallied multiple hits in this one.

            Royals 4, Blue Jays 2
Royals scored 2 in the 9th off Ken Giles to break the tie and move to a solid 9-4. Ian Kennedy earned the win out of the pen and Scott Barlow picked up his MLB-leading 7th save.

            White Sox 8, Twins 7
Twins scored 4 in the 8th and 2 in the 9th but couldn’t complete the comeback. 7 total longballs in this game, with 2 from Yasmani Grandal. Both of these teams look really good early.

            Rays 4, Indians 2
Rays send the Indians to 5-10 behind 6 innings from Yonny Chirinos and some handy bullpen work. Jose Martinez drove in 2 runs and Nick Anderson notched his 5th save.

            Tigers 4, Angels 1
CJ Cron drove in all 4 runs for the Tigers and Ivan Nova pitched 7 innings for his first win. Lefty Gregory Soto notched his first MLB save.

            Yankees 5, Athletics 4
Tyler Wade, DJ LeMahieu, and Brett Gardner homered to power the offense. Chris Bassitt started for Oakland but exited in the 3rd with an abdominal strain and is day-to-day.

            Red Sox 7, Mariners 0
Mitch Moreland homered twice and drove in 6 runs. Mariners picked up 11 hits but couldn’t muster a single run as they fall to 1-14. Yikes.

            Rangers 2, Astros 1
Danny Santana led off the bottom of the 9th with a solo blast off of Roberto Osuna to walk it off. Rangers are 11-2 and look like a contender early on.

            Marlins 5, Braves 3
Marlins fell down 3-0 early then chipped away at Felix Hernandez and the Braves bullpen to come from behind. Jose Urena earned the win in relief and Brandon Kintzler earned his 6th save.

            Cubs 11, Cardinals 1
Cubs now own the majors longest running winning streak at 7. This one wasn’t close as they jumped on Dakota Hudson for 5 runs in the first. Jason Heyward went yard twice and drove in 5 runs.

            Reds 3, Phillies 1
Another pitchers duel between these two, this time between Zach Eflin and Luis Castillo. Reds broke the 1-1 tie in the 8th then Amir Garrett locked down save #2.

            Brewers 4, Mets 2
Freddy Peralta lasted only 4 innings but the Brew crew used 6 relievers to stifle the Mets and come away with the W. Eric Sogard homered and picked up 2 RBI’s.

            Rockies 8, Diamondbacks 4
This one was tied at 4 heading into the 13th before the Rockies finally broke through again with a 4 spot off of Kevin Ginkel. Charlie Blackmon homered and drove in 4 runs, and leads the majors with 21 RBI’s.

            Dodgers 4, Nationals 0
Dodgers win their 3rd in a row behind a 3-run shot from Mookie Betts off of Patrick Corbin and 8 shutout innings from Julio Urias.

            Padres 4, Giants 3
After Kirby Yates blew the save in the top of the 9th, Tony Watson would blow it in the bottom via a 2-run single from Eric Hosmer. Dinelson Lamet earned the win in relief of Yates, who doesn’t look very good early.

            LEAGUE TRANSACTIONS
Rockies place RHP Jeff Hoffman on the 15-day IL with a fractured arm and purchase the contract of RHP Rico Garcia from AAA Albuquerque

Astros place CF George Springer on the 10-day IL with a forearm fracture and recall UT Myles Straw from AAA Round Rock. Springer will miss at least a month and Kyle Tucker will get a chance to play every day in center.

White Sox place OF Eloy Jimenez on the 10-day IL with a calf pull and recall UT Andrew Romine from AAA Charlotte. Eloy is expected to be fine but this is already his second IL trip this season.

Rockies purchase the contract of RHP Bruce Rondon from Rieleros de Aguascalientes of the Mexican League. He will report to AA Hartford.

White Sox purchase the contract of IF Dixon Machado from the Lotte Giants of the KBO and assign him to AAA Charlotte.

              Timbers Biggest Trade Yet

As Spring Training comes to an end and on their final off day of the Spring, the Timbers trade away their longtime, or the Astros longtime, face of the franchise in yet another forced trade. Jose Altuve is now a White Sox. The White Sox appear all in on the 2020 season. The Timbers send 2B Jose Altuve to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for RP Kelvin Herrera, 2B Nick Madrigal, and LF Nicky Delmonico. With this trade the Timbers get their potential Altuve replacement in the form of Nick Madrigal. The final domino has yet to fall, Carlos Correa has yet to be traded, but rumors are it will happen same day today.

Yankees Complete Series Win Over Mariners

After a 7-5 win the Yankees have taken 3 of 4 from Seattle. Mariners starter Marco Gonzales would leave after 5 IP of 2 run ball thanks to a 90 minute rain delay. In the 7th trailing 5-2 Tyler Wade would pull a 2 Run HR into the short porch with some help from 8 MPH wind to cut it to 1 run. 1 out later, Andujar would pull a line drive solo HR to tie it at 5-5. Skip to 2 outs in the 8th, runners on 2nd and 3rd, Urshela pinch hitting for Higashioka would bloop a 2 run single to CF giving the Yankees a 7-5 lead headed to the 9th. This time Kahnle would lock down the save.

                    Next up:
The 34-20 Twins come to NY for a tough 3 game series. To close out May, we kick off a West road trip as we head to LA to take on the 24-29 Angels.

                    News:
Mariners Claim SP/RP Nick Tropeano Off Waivers From Yankees

24-28 Phillies Activate SP Jake Arrieta From IL
32-22 Cubs Activate C Wilson Contreras From IL
36-19 Indians OF Domingo Santana Placed on 60 Day IL Out 2-3 Months After Being Activated Just 6 Days Ago.

                    Astros ‘Punishment’ Keeps Coming
Now down goes Alex Bregman. Bregman, who’s been hitting an insane 360\459\661\ line this year will miss the next 2-3 months of action with a Torn Finger Ligament. Houston is well on their way to building the best IL team in baseball, as Bregman joins teammates Springer, Correa, Gurriel, and Greinke. The closest return? Springer due back in 2-3 weeks. Everyone else? At least 1-2 months out.
At 29-25 with half a game lead over Texas for 1st, the Astros have weathered the storm so far but it will be a rough stretch of games ahead. If this injury nightmare continues, soon there may not even be any healthy players left to bang on the trash can.

                            Manic Mets Franchise:

Mets @ Marlins 3 game series:
                            --
Game 1: Mets won a thriller in 14 innings taking it 4-2.

The bats were not going in this game as the game was tied 1-1 going into the 8th when Wilson Ramos hit a go ahead single to make it 2-1. Seth Lugo blew his 2nd save in a row when the Marlins Anderson drove in a run to tie it. The game was scoreless for the next 5 innings until Nelson Cruz hit a HR and Eduardo Nunez drove in an RBI to make it 4-2. Arodys Vizcaino (4-2) gets the win in 2 innings of relief while Yimi Garcia (2-3) took the loss.

After the game, the Mets GM was furious and made his 5th trade of the year to the Yankees. In a controversial and blockbuster deal, the Mets acquired 2B All Star Gleyber Torres from the Yankees for 2B Jeff McNeil, 3B Brett Baty (A prospect, top 30) and SS Shervyen Newton (A prospect). The Mets now have only one A Prospect in their farm system, but have made yet another move going for contention this year.

Since coming back from a 2 month injury, Jeff McNeil was hitting .079 and was 3 for 38. Patience wore thin, and with great confidence in SS Rosario and 3B Urshela, the Mets take another big swing in hopes of solidifying their infield for years to come.

Game 2: The Mets lost 5-3 with a rough outing from Corey Kluber (9-2). He gave up 4 runs in 6 innings including an early 1st inning 2 run HR from Villar. The Marlins held the lead throughout despite a 2 run HR from Conforto in the 5th (30). Newcomer Sixto Sanchez (3-1) took the win going 5 innings with 7 SO's and 2 ER.

Game 3: The Mets took the series in a close one 4-3. After an early 3-0 lead, the Marlins caught up to tie in 3-3 in the 7th off a a HR by Aguilar. All 3 of the Marlins runs were from HR's - the other 2 from Villar and Cooper. In the 8th, Confroto hit another HR (31) to take the lead as he moves to 3rd in the league in HR's. Giovanny Gallegos (2-1) took the win while Brandon Kintzler (1-2) took the loss. Seth Lugo rebounded from the 2 blown saves for his 25th of the season.

The Mets go into the All Star Break 67-29, best record in the league but with a handful of teams right behind them.

                            ---
                            ALL STAR WEEKEND:

Pete Alonso had a weekend to remember. He took home his 2nd straight HR Derby Win off a finals win against teammate Michael Conforto. The Derby was a nail-biter as Alonso took the win with less that 10 seconds to go in his time up. He plans to go for the 3peat next year.

And in the all star game, Pete Alonso hit a game winning 2 run HR in the bottom of the 9th with 1 out off Blue Jays closer Ken Giles. The NL took it 5-4, and it will surely be a weekend to remember for Alonso.

                            ----
The Mets get a couple days off before a 3 game home series against the Seattle Mariners.

                              Manic Mets Franchise:

Mariners @ Mets 3 game series:

Game 1: The Mets started the post ASB groggy and lethargic as they get shut out 2-0 in a head-scratching loss to the Mariners.

Nick Margevicius (5-9) pitched a gem for the Mariners going 8 innings with 8 SO's, 0 ER and 2 hits given up. Andrew Heaney (9-3) took the loss going 6 innings on with 1 ER.

The main issue was in the 3rd where an easily dropped flyball by CF Nelson Cruz led to a double. A frustrated Heaney then hit the pitcher, and 2 infield singles led to the 2 runs. Cruz also had an error in the 8th inning, leading the manager to vow never to play Cruz at CF (turns out he only plays LF or RF).

The Mets had an opportunity in the 9th with runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out, but SO's by Alonso and Cespedes led to an Edwards Jr. save (19).

The Mets are now 67-30 and lead the Braves by 6 games. Pete Alonso has struggled at the plate as of late and the coaches are beginning to emphasize to all their players contact over power swings moving forward.
                              ----
Game 2: The Mets took game 2 in dominant fashion winning 7-3.

Cy Young frontrunner Jacob deGrom (11-6) went 6 innings with 1 ER and 11 SO's. Yohan Ramirez (4-6) took the loss going 5 innings with 4 ER and 6 SO's. The Mets had 10 hits including 3 HR's from Gleyber Torres (26), Nelson Cruz (24), and a league leading 45 HR's from Pete Alonso who got out of his slump with 3 hits.

2 runs from the Mariners in the 8th was not enough, as a rubber match awaits.
                              --
Game 3: The Mets took the series with a 6-3 victory over the Mariners. Noah Syndergaard (11-4) took the win going 5.2 innings on 3 ER. Marco Gonzales (6-9) took the loss going 4.2 innings on 4 ER. The Mets had 11 hits and had an early 4 run lead by the 4th.

But in the 6th the Mariners came back for 3 runs before the Mets closed the book with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th. The Mets move to (69-30) and are 6.5 games ahead of the Braves. They also remain 5 games ahead of the Yankees for best record in the league.

The trade deadline prep has now begun and the contract extension time gets going. With LOTS of options to sort through, there will be plenty of tough decisions to look at while the regular season comes to a close. Stay tuned.

BREAKING: RP Yusmeiro Petit signed a 1 year deal for 4.4 million to stay with the Mets past the 2020 season. So far he's played 46 games, with 13 saves, 10 holds and a 2.42 ERA on 42 SO's. With a whip of 0.91, this was a decision to keep bullpen depth past the season.

Going to Start a new Pirates Franchise tonight -- let's see how far this one makes it before it wears off its luster and gets shelved for DD again.

I long to get back to where I was in 17 where I was in a stretch run in my 2nd Year before the luster wore off. I guess what's tough is knowing that if I'm going to do this realistically, it's going to take some time.
