Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Game 1 of 3 vs Padres:

Mets win a blowout 9-3 after a scare in the 6th.

Pete Alonso started the game off with a 2 run HR in the 1st, as the Padres matched with a Juan lagares triple that led to a run in the 1st as well. 2-1.

It was scoreless till the 6th when the Padres drove in 2 runs off starter Andrew Heaney. He went 6 innings for 3 runs and 5 SO's for the no decision. 3-2 Padres.

The Mets could have folded after a disappointing 7th inning where they load the bases with 0 outs and couldnt deliver a single run.

But in the 8th, Pete Alonso hit his 2nd run HR of the game which was soon followed by back to back HR's by Nelson Cruz and Yoenis Cespedes to make the game 5-2.

In the 9th the Mets broke it wide open scoring 4 runs off the Padres bullpen to seal it. Yusmeiro Petit (2-0) takes the win while Jose Castillo (3-4) takes the loss. A fantastic win for the Mets, as the bats broke out with strong winds in San Diego for 12 hits.

The Mets are now 59-23 and still 10 games up.

Pete Alonso adds another 2 HR's to his total to make it 39 HR's for the season before the ASB. WOW!

He is currently being tested repeatedly for PED's.

What do you guys consider a large enough sample to start making changes, whether it’s benching players, DFAing, trading etc?

A Trip Around the League: MightyMaxxx13’s COVID-free MLB 2020 Season Simulation

            April 7, 2020

            Rays 5, Red Sox 3
Rays broke through for 3 9th-inning runs off of Sox closer Brandon Workman to snap their 4-game skid. Charlie Morton was lights out again, whiffing 9 over 6.1 IP with just a run allowed.

            Orioles 8, Yankees 1
Gerrit Cole exited with the game tied at 1, then the O’s ran up the score against the Yanks middle relievers. Stevie Wilkerson and Renato Nunez homered and Paul Fry earned the win in relief of John Means. O’s are looking competent so far at 6-5.

            White Sox 6, Mariners 5
The Mariners took the lead in the top of the 12th then Matt Magill blew the save in the bottom, for the second night in a row. White Sox would win it in 13 to send the poor Mariners to 0-12.

            Royals 2, Tigers 0
Jorge Lopez pitched the game of his life so far, striking out 7 over 8 scoreless innings and allowing just 3 hits. Newly minted closer Scott Barlow is 5/5 in save opportunities and is yet to allow a run this season. Royals have an MLB-best 7-game winning streak (albeit all against the Tigers and Mariners).

            Twins 11, Indians 4
Twins exploded in the 6th for 8 runs to put this one out of reach. Donaldson homered twice and Kepler once, and lefty swingman Devin Smeltzer earned the win with 4 scoreless innings out of the pen.

            Angels 10, Athletics 4
Angels snap their 6-game skid behind 2 homers from Anthony Rendon and 4 RBI’s from Shohei Ohtani. Dylan Bundy allowed 10 hits and 4 runs over 6.1 IP but also struck out 9 and earned the win.

            Astros 12, Mets 0
Astros rocked Michael Wacha for 6 runs in just 1.1 then continued the beating on Walker Lockett who followed. Zack Greinke went the distance and struck out 7. Stros have a 4-game winning streak.

            Padres 7, Braves 1
Zach Davies took a shutout into the 9th and also hit a homer. Eric Hosmer and Josh Naylor also homered and had 2 RBI’s each. Mike Soroka allowed 2 runs over 6 for the tough luck loss.

            Marlins 9, Nationals 4
Max Scherzer took a shutout into the 7th then fell apart, falling to 0-2. Harold Ramirez drove in 4 and Brian Anderson 3. Sandy Alcantara earned the win to move to 2-0.

            Phillies 3, Blue Jays 0
Phillies sweep the rematch of the ‘93 world series with 2 consecutive shutouts. Zack Wheeler pitched 8.2 with 5 K’s for the win, and Hector Neris got the last out for his 6th save.

            Brewers 2, Reds 1
Brett Anderson and Sonny Gray were both lights out in this one, leaving the game tied 1-1 after 7 IP each. Lorenzo Cain hit a go-ahead RBI double off Robert Stephenson in the 10th and Josh Hader finished it off for his 5th save.

            Cubs 2, Pirates 1
Another pitcher’s duel, with Kyle Hendricks and Chris Archer both going 7 and allowing just a run each. Jason Heyward drove in the winner with a base hit in the 10th to drop the Buccos to 2-9.

            Cardinals 8, Dodgers 5
Dodgers look real sloppy to start the year. A few first inning errors in this one allow the Cards to hang 5 runs on Kershaw in the first inning (3 unearned) and knock him out after just 0.2 IP. Dodgers are 3-8.

            Rockies 6, Rangers 3
Jon Gray outpitched Corey Kluber, scattering 8 hits and allowing just a run with 11 K’s over 8 IP. Dahl and Story homered and Scott Oberg notched his 4th save.

            Diamondbacks 5, Giants 4
Snakes outlast the Giants in a 14-inning grinder. Giants infielder Abiatal Avelino hit his first MLB homer in the loss.

Howd you sign guys(FAs) and not have them automatically go on the 40 man. I’ve tried signing some players and some go on the 40 and some don’t

Sometimes they go on the 40-man automatically and sometimes they don’t. It’s been an issue for a long time and I haven’t seen a solution. Since I’m doing 30-team control I just outright them when it happens and make sure they don’t get claimed.

So when you outright them you make sure the other teams don’t put a claim in for those three days. How do you do that but have them continue to make moves during that period? I was just gonna sign them at the end of the year

Right now I’ve got everything but scouting set to manual .... if you dont want to shut everythinf else down you can just set waivers to manual for the other teams for that period I believe

One more thing, do you know if by adding then taking them off through waivers if it’ll affect them later, i.e. having to add them to the 40 man down the road to avoid rule 5 draft ?

Cleveland, OH - Cleveland Indians sign star shortstop Francisco Lindor to a 5 year 105 million dollar extension prior to opening day. The extension will keep Lindor in Cleveland through 2025 and solidify Lindor’s place as the face of the franchise as he attempts to bring a World Series championship to Cleveland.

Yep, taking the lowest-rated team in the game (roster uses 1987 as a starting point) and seeing what I can do with them over the long haul. Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray are the standouts on the team, but there's a lot of pop in the lineup with Fred Lynn, Larry Sheets and Terry Kennedy.

Pitching-wise, Mike Boddicker and Mike Flanagan anchor the rotation. It's a thin starting 5 and the bullpen is ... well, we have guys taking up those roster sports. It's going to need a LOT of work.

Good luck. I went to a bunch of games the season they lost 20 to begin the year. I think it was 89? Man, they were bad. Did get to see cal, mattingly, griffey, and the bash brothers. That Oakland team was awesome. Felt like you were watching gods out there.

A classic pitching duel was the story of game 1. Berrios and Paddack were both doing their best to prove pitching wins in the playoffs. Paddack went 7IP and only gave up 1ER, while Berrios did just a tad better going 8IP and only giving up one run.

The lone runs scored were a triple by Paddack in the 6th where he was brough in by a single from OF Taylor Trammell. The Cubs answered back in the 7th with an opposite field HR from Kyle Schwarber to tie things up at 1-1.

The bullpens took over and dominated the game, as this game went to extras and was not decided until the 12th inning, when Anthony Rizzo led the inning off with a double. Sano sac flied Rizzo to 3rd, where Baez grounded to the SS which held Rizzo at 3B. Kyle Schwarber yet again delivered with a single that just barely got past the 2B which allowed Rizzo to score and the Cubs to win. It was a long and tiring game 1, but it was a hard fought win, and the Cubs lead the series 1-0.

                              Game 2: Julio Urias (9-10, 3.82 ) VS Chris Sale (10-16, 4.20ERA)

Game 2 was almost an exact copy of game 1. Both pitchers cruised through 3 innings. The 4th the Padres got on the board first, just like game 1, with back to back doubles by Machado and Tatis that put SD up 1-0 through 4. The Cubs tied it up in the 5th with a Doug Paolucci solo HR off Chris Sale. The Cubs took the lead in the 7th with a Mitch Haniger single up the middle which scored Miguel Sano.

Urias went 6 strong, and the bullpen held strong through the 8th inning.
2-1 heading into the 9th. Same score as game 1. Rinse and repeat. Chapman gets 2 quick outs. Groundball to 2nd, easy play for Doug Paolucci and he throws to 1st for the…….WHAT HE OVERTHROWS RIZZO. Padres alive with a runner at 1st. CRACK, next pitch Taylor Trammel hits a blast to RF and somehow, someway the Padres are up 3-2. CRACK back to back jacks this one by Machado.

Cubs are in awe, and cant believe they let this slip away. Cubs muster nothing in the bottom half of the 9th and lose 4-2.

Series tied 1-1 going to San Diego.

                              Game 3: Kyle Hendricks (15-10, 2.88ERA) VS Mackenzie Gore (13-7, 3.97ERA)

Game 3 was another wild one in this extremely close NLDS. The Cubs put up a 3 spot in the 1st, with HR’s from Sano and Haniger. The Cubs again put up a 3 spot in the 2nd thanks to a Adam Eaton double, and a Haniger double which scored 2 more runs.

Hendricks was dealing through 5IP having only given up 1 run. He gave up another 2 runs in the 6 and he should have been taken out there. 6-3 score heading into the bottom half of the 7th, the Cubs sent Hendricks back out there who gave up a 3-R-HR to Brian Dozier. This tied the game and again put the Cubs and their fans jaws on the ground with another collapse.
The 8th and 9th both had no offensive action, and yet again the game went to extras. The Cubs did not waste much time getting on the board. Cubs got the bases loaded with 0 outs, and a Henry Browning sac fly gave the Cubs the lead and the lone run of the inning.

Chapman makes his 3rd appearance in 3 games and was able to close this one out without any trouble and despite a huge scare in the middle of the game the Cubs were able to push through and win this one 7-6.

                              Cubs lead the series 2-1.

                              Game 4: Dinelson Lamet (10-10, 4.77ERA) VS Joey Lucchesi (10-11, 2.51ERA)

This game really brings back the history of the 2021 trade between the Padres and Cubs. The Cubs sent OF Ian Happ to the Padres who currently is the cleanup hitter for the NL West Champs, while Dinelson Lamet has a chance to knock off the team he used to pitch for. Both in contract years, the success of the trade can be measured after this season.

Lamet won this round, and in incredible fashion. Despite an up and down regular season, Lamet saved his best performance for an elimation game in the postseason as he threw a complete game shutout against his former club. 9 SO and only 4 hits allowed. The Cubs only had 7 hits, but it was more than enough as Sano hit a 2-r HR and Scruggs also added 2RBi to result in a final score of 4-0 and an overall 3-1 series win.

The Cubs move on to the NLCS, while the young Padres look like a team that could dominate the West for the coming years. The Cubs will take on division rival Milwaukee Brewers (87-75) who defeated the 99 win Braves in 5 games.

                              Cubs win series 3-1

                              Cubs Vs Brewers NLCS

                              Game 1: Jose Berrios (15-11, 3.59ERA) VS Brandon Woodruff (6-10, 3.46ERA)

Game 1 was yet another pitching duel which seems to be the case for every Cubs playoff game so far. The Brewers got to Berrios early with a Jose Iglesias HR in the 1st. The Cubs got on the board in the 4th with a solo HR from Anthony Rizzo.

It was a 1-1 game heading into the 8th, both pitchers were great, Woodruff got an early hook after 5IP and Berrios went 7IP, 1ER, 9SO.

The Cubs finally pulled through in the 8th when Sano got an RBI double, Baez hit a sac fly to score another, and Schwarber finished off with a 2rHR for insurance. The Cubs held down the 9th and they took the early 1-0 series lead against MIL.

                              Game 2: Julio Urias (9-10, 3.82 ) VS Adrian Houser (7-9, 3.88ERA)

Game 2 was a legendary one on many accounts. The Cubs got off to a quick start in inning 1 putting up a 3 spot thanks to a 2rHR by Rizzo and an RBI double by Baez. Cubs give a 3-0 cushion for Urias.

Urias cruised through the first 3 innings, but faltered in the 4th where the Brewers tied the game up at 3 with a Corey Ray solo HR, and a 2rHR from Jose Iglesias his 2nd in 2 games.

Sano gave the Cubs a 4-3 lead in the bottom half of the 4th with a solo HR. His next at bat he did it again, with a solo HR in the 6th, giving the Cubs a 5-3 lead. The next runs came in the 8th, where the Cubs bullpen fell apart. Brett Martin gave up 2 wuick runs with back to back doubles by Mookie Betts and Josh Donaldson.

The Cubs decided to bring in Chapman in the 8th, where he gave up a mammoth 440ft 2R HR to Christian Yelich. 6-5 Brewers.
Miguel Sano entered legendary status with the Cubs when he yet again hit a solo HR in the 8th, tying the game yet again at 6.

The Cubs bullpen did no better in the 9th then they did in the 8th. Cody Reese gave up 3 runs in the 9th, and the Cubs were not able to get anything going in the bottom half.

Despite 3 Home runs for Sano (4 In series) the Cubs were not able to do enough today. Brewers win 9-6 and the series is tied 1-1.

                              Game 3: Kyle Hendricks (15-10, 2.88ERA) VS Freddy Peralta (3-9, 4.21ERA)

Game 3 got off to a good start for the Cubs with a Sac Fly from Sano scoring Adam Eaton in the 1st. Kyle Hendricks did not perform his best, giving up 3 runs in the first and blowing the Cubs early lead.

The Cubs decided to pull Hendricks after the disastrous 1st inning and went with Rookie Brailyn Marquez who came in and pitched 5 scoreless innings. Phenomenal performance.

Freddy Peralta calmed down after giving up his lone run in the first and went 5IP 1ER.

The game was 3-1 in the 9th, Cubs were down to the last 3 outs. Josh Hader in, and hope for a win seemed bleak. Schwarber got on with a bunt against the shift, Haniger followed up with a double to score Schwarber, 3-2.
Henry Browning singles up the middle, Haniger is sent home…..and he is OUT!! It was a bang-bang play at the plate. Pinch Hitter Derek Tate struck out to end the game and the Cubs rally was over as was the game.

                              Cubs lose 3-2

Brewers take 2-1 lead in series.

                              Game 4: Dinelson Lamet (10-10, 4.77ERA) VS Lance Lynn (13-13, 3.59ERA)

Lamet did it again. Despite having nearly a 5ERA in the regular season, and being the most inconsistent pitcher on the Cubs staff, he did a repeat performance of game 4 of the NLDS. He threw ANOTHER Complete Game shutout to win game 4 of the ALCS. He didn’t give up a hit until the 5th inning.

The Cubs offense was even helped by Lamet who went 2-3 with a walk along with 2RBI. Schwarber also had 3RBI and added a HR.

This one was an easy one for the Cubs thanks to Lamet, and have tied up the series at 2-2. One more game at Milwaukee before the series wraps up back in Chicago.

                              Cubs win 7-0

                              Series tied 2-2.

                              Game 5: Jose Berrios (15-11, 3.59ERA) VS Brandon Woodruff (6-10, 3.46ERA)

Game 5 yet again was a suspenseful nailbiter. Both starters return from the game 1 mathcup and were as good as last time.

Neither starter gave up a run through 5 innings. Ace vs Ace and both were on fire in this one. Finally, in the 6th the Cubs got on the board with an RBI double from Rizzo, and Baez followed it up with an RBI single to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead after 6.

Berrios exited after an amazing performance going 7IP, 0ER, 4SO. The 8th inning Tyler Duffey came in for the Cubs and gave up back to back home runs to the power duo of Mookie Betts and Christian Yelich. Another heartbreaker for the Cubs and all of a sudden the game was tied at 2.

The Cubs then with with Chapman out of the pen, and he put on a legendary performance. He pitched not only 1 inning, but 3 scoreless innings and 5 SO.

This game would still be tied at 2 heading into the 14th inning, when finally with 2 outs pinch hitter Victor Caratini barely muscled one through the right side of the infield which scored Kyle Schwarber and gave the Cubs a 3-2 lead.

Brett Martin closed it out in the bottom half of the 14th.
Long & crazy game, but the Cubs took the pivotal game 5 and head back to Chicago.

Cubs win 3-2 in 14 innings.

                              Cubs lead series 3-2.

                              Game 6: Julio Urias (9-10, 3.82 ) VS Adrian Houser (7-9, 3.88ERA)

Game 6 was yet again another close one. The Cubs got on the board in the 1st with a Sac Fly from Miguel Sano. The Brewers got on the board in the 3rd with a Josh Donaldson HR, and the Cubs answered right back with a Rizzo sac fly that scored Adam Eaton. Cubs up 2-1 through 3.

That was all the scoring in the game. Houser went 5IP, 2ER and Urias in what could have been his last game as a Cub went 6.1IP and gave up 1run en route to a 2-1 victory in game 6.

The Cubs win the series 4-2 and will once again return to the world series for the 2nd time in 3 years.

The Cubs had a chance to go against the crosstown White Sox, but they fell to the Angels in 6 games, and it is a repeat of the 2021 world series. Angels VS Cubs. Round 2.

Kyle Hendricks allowed just one run on three hits as the Chicago Cubs trounced the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field to earn a two-game split in the four-game series. Hendricks completed 7 1/3 innings, improving to 9-3 on the year.

Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff struggled to find the strike zone, lasting just three innings while allowing five runs on as many hits. Woodruff took the loss and is now 6-3 on the year.

The Cubs racked up 12 hits on the game including an inside-the-park home run by Kris Bryant in the bottom of the third. Albert Almora Jr. paced the offense with runs driving in and a pair of stolen bases. With the win the Cubs improve to 56-32 on the year and maintain a secure hold of the National League Central division with an eight game lead over the second place Brewers.

The Cubs will continue their seven-game home stand Friday when they open a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Jose Quintana (6-2, 3.36) will make the start for the Cubs while Tyler Glasnow (3-5, 7.27) will be on the hill for the Rays.
