Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

    JUNE 27, 2020 | BRONX, NY

The hottest team in baseball extended their winning streak to ten games Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium as the Chicago Cubs completed yet another come-from-behind victory. The Cubs trailed the Yankees 6-0 after three innings but tied the game in the top of the fourth. The six-run fourth inning included a solo homer by Willson Contreras, his 22nd of the season, a bases clearing double by Daniel Descalso, followed by a two-run homer by Albert Almora Jr., his 9th of the year.

It looked as if Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks was headed for the showers early after a rocky start. But the Cubs hurler was able to complete 5 1/3 innings and earned his eighth victory of the year. Hendricks allowed six runs on eight hits while striking out five.

The Yankees pushed across a run in the bottom of the ninth but Craig Kimbrel entered the game and recorded the final out of the game, striking out Aaron Judge and recording his 23rd save of the year.

"They just seem to be on another level right now," said Yankees slugger Aaron Judge. "We've had them down early both games of this series but they just battle right back... they have a tough lineup, top to bottom and they showed that the past couple games."

The Cubs have now trailed in eight of their last ten games, but have won each of them, often scoring runs late and winning a few in extra innings.

"It's exciting baseball right now," said Cubs superstar shortstop Javier Baez. "It's fun to be a part of and I think this team is just going out and having fun right now."

The Cubs will look for their third straight series sweep tomorrow as they close out the series against the Yankees in the Bronx. Jose Quintana (6-2, 3.30) will be on the bump for the Cubs, who look to make it 11 consecutive wins. Masahiro Tanaka (6-6, 3.57) will make the start for the Yankees. The Yankees have won just twice in their last six games and sit 4.0 games behind the first place Red Sox in the American League East division.

3 game series again the Nationals:

      Game 1:
      Strasburg pitched a gem, 6 1/3rd with 1 run and 9 strikeouts.
Syndergaard pitched 6 innings and 2 ER for the loss.

3-1 game, Mets just couldn't get anything going.

Kendrick and Thames both hit HR's for the Nationals, Jeff McNeil had 2 doubles.
      Mets lose 3-1.
      ---
Game 2: Lance Lynn of the Mets takes the win with 6 innings and 3 ER.
Corbin only goes 4 2/3rd's giving up 6 runs.

Rosario, McNeil and Alonso all hit HR's M
Mets broke the game open in the 3rd after a 2-2 game for 3 runs.

      6-3 Mets.
      ----
Game 3: Corey Kluber went 6 innings and 2 ER for the win.
Voth gave up 3 runs in 4 and a third.

Thames for the Nats hit a 2 run HR but other than that the Nationals were quiet.

Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil and Conforto all hit HR's, Conforto with a 2 HR day.

      7-2 Mets.

Conforto is now in 4th in the league for HR's with 22 while Alonso is in 2nd at 31 HR's behind Yelich's 33.

Mets are a tremendous 51-20 with a day off before a 13 game stretch to end June.

Stamina and fatigue will be key in this roadtrip as they continue to get adjusted to their new SP's and hope to have FA signed OF Maiano Feliz back in 2 weeks.

26 days till ASB but the Mets are looking like strong contenders to take a deep run into the playoffs as long as their hitting holds up.

        Game 1 vs Cubs away:

Andrew Haney pitched a gem going 7 innings for 1 ER and 11 SO's!!!

The Mets had 4 first inning runs and held the lead throughout for an 8-1 victory. With Jeff McNeil back and healthy, the team has been clicking on all cylinders.

Michael Conforto hit his 9th HR in 7 games, on a remarkably hot run with Yasiel Puig adding a HR and 3 RBI's as well.

The question now becomes how much to rest the everyday players before a big series coming up at home against the Phillies.

A big game against 9-1 Jon Lester awaits with the Mets Jacob deGrom (9-3) going head to head.

The Cubs June was not ideal as they went 12-14, including a 6 game losing streak in the middle of the month, but it was enough to keep the Cubs atop the division. Henry Browning continues to be a solid contributor in the lineup and David Bote has been fantastic as an everyday regular in Sano/Rizzo’s absence.

Kyle Schwarber continues to be the offensive powerhouse in the middle of the lineup, with Rookie 3B Doug Paolucci hitting .275/10HR/26 RBI while Sano is out. The rotation did struggle a bit this month, but still remains the strength of the team. Chapman did blow a couple saves this month but leads the MLB with 29 saves at the midway point. The Cubs did suffer another long-term injury as 1B/OF Gary Scruggs broke his hand. Scruggs has been a regular this season, but the return of Rizzo in early July should soften the blow a bit for the injury riddled team.

Despite the Cubs staying afloat in the standings, they desperately miss Rizzo and Sano. Cubs rank 20th in HR, 28th in hits, 26th in runs, and 24th in team average. It still very much is the rotation and bullpen keeping the Cubs atop the division, and it will be interesting to see if the Cubs make a move to bolster the lineup at the deadline.

          Cubs are 45-36.

          June Draft
          SP Bobby Mcmillan (64OVR/B POT/21YR)
          RP Stanley Goto (62OVR/CPOT/19YR)
          SS Sherman Stark (74OVR/DPOT/23YR)
          CF Rafael Lozano (68OVR/DPOT/20YR)
          CF Omar Barrios (66OVR/DPOT/19YR)
July was a good bounceback month for the Cubs. It saw the return of sluggers Anthony Rizzo and Miguel Sano. Sano had 8 RBI in his first 2 games back with 2HR. The Cubs had Kyle Hendricks and Aroldis Chapman as their representatives in the AS game.

During the break the Cubs realized they could use some boost in the lineup and acquired OF Mitch Haniger from the A’s for 3B prospect Christopher Morel. Haniger has a .282/17HR/42RBI at the All-Star break and hopes to be a consistent rental bat for the rest of the season.

Many teams were active at the deadline, with the biggest blockbuster being SP Chris Sale being shipped from BOS to SD.

The Cubs overall went 17-10 in July, with Rizzo and Sano proving to be a huge boost to the lineup that ranked in the back half of the league in most offensive categories. Cubs are 6 games up heading into August, and look to get through the dog days of summer in an even better position.
          Cubs sit at 61-46.

August is a month in the MLB season where teams can fall apart, luckily the Cubs did not fall apart, but they also did not gain much ground in the division. The Cubs finally healed up this month with OF/1B Gary Scruggs coming back. The rotation continues to push the team along, although they did take a slight dip in August, while the offense has begun to show some signs of life. The Cubs were not happy with the way the end of the month happened with the team losing 7 of 9 to close out August.

The Cubs still rank in the top 5 in most pitching categories, and the bullpen has also done its part to keep the team atop. The Cubs finally had enough of
Craig Kimbrel who was sent down in August with an ERA of 6.78. The Cubs called up young pitching prospect SP Bernard Nowak who was picked in the 1st round in 2021. He will get some experience out of the pen for the rest of the season, and can spot start if need be.

Kyle Schwarber has been an absolute stud in the middle of the lineup hitting .310/30HR/66 RBI’s. It has been a year of injuries and inconsistency from established hitters so far this season, and Schwarber has been one of the few players to stay consistent all season.

The division lead is not very comfortable heading into September, the Cubs sit in 1st in the NL Central up by 3 games over the Brewers, and 6 above the Pirates. September is shaping up yet again to be another big month for the Cubs as they look to wash away the memories of last season when they did not make the playoffs.

            Extra! Extra! Twins Win
            Minnesota drops LA in 11th

            May 2, 2020
Anaheim--- Nelson Cruz hit his ninth homerun of the season in the top of the eleventh inning, and the Minnesota Twins edged the Los Angeles Angels 6-5 Saturday night.

Twins starter Jake Odorizzi got another no decision, despite pitching six quality innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk, with seven strikeouts. Tyler Duffey (1-1) pitched a scoreless tenth for the win, while Sergio Romo earned the save in the eleventh.

Despite only eight hits on the night, Minnesota’s offense plated six runs on three homeruns. Along with Cruz’s game winner, Jorge Polanco and Max Kepler also went solo on the night.

The Angels bullpen wasted a good start from Andrew Heaney, allowing three runs in four and one-third innings. Heaney went six and two-thirds, allowing three runs on just four hits. He issued three walks and had four strikeouts.

Sunday will be the series finale as Minnesota will go for the sweep. Homer Bailey (5-0, 2.93) goes for win number six and he will be countered by Angels youngster Griffin Canning (0-0, 2.86). First pitch is set for 1:07 PM.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

I haven't posted in a while, but with this quarantine and working from home, I have gotten a ton of gaming in. I am now 105 games into my franchise with the Sox, playing every pitch of every game. A couple of weeks ago, Alex Verdugo and German Marquez both went down with injuries, expecting to miss 2 months. Verdugo was hitting .244 so bringing up Durran and his speed was an easy decision. He's hitting about .230, but has had some clutch hits, and has been getting on base (and stealing). I was able to trade Jeter Downs and Dustin May, and Bryan Mata for Mike Soroka to fill the pitching void. With Adalberto Mondessi hitting .300 and setting a steals record, Downs was more of a luxury. Losing Mata and May hurt, but Soroka is only 22, and I was able to draft 3 pitchers with potentials over 86 in the draft (had a great draft with 5 players 86 potential or better). Once Marquez comes back, he'll slot in as the 5th starter with Samardjiza moving to the long relief role. Season 2 will be played 5 years after season 1, and by then Soroka will be my ace and Chris Sale will probably be dealt for some younger pieces. JD Martinez was also on that path, but he's hitting .338 with 25 homers and close to 80 RBI. I'm still loving this game.

Downloaded the "Longballs and Legends" roster (props to the ScoutScoops team for the amazing job) and am running a Franchise with the ...

                      Baltimore Orioles

Yep, taking the lowest-rated team in the game (roster uses 1987 as a starting point) and seeing what I can do with them over the long haul. Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray are the standouts on the team, but there's a lot of pop in the lineup with Fred Lynn, Larry Sheets and Terry Kennedy.

Pitching-wise, Mike Boddicker and Mike Flanagan anchor the rotation. It's a thin starting 5 and the bullpen is ... well, we have guys taking up those roster sports. It's going to need a LOT of work.

I know it seriously is amazing.

I ended up signing him to a 1+1 deal for 16/yr. He's too good. What did you trade for him? I let Ces go, resigned Betances, Stro and Ramos, and signed Andrew Miller, JBJ and Braun

End of May, Chi Sox offered me Dom for Grandal (they signed JT Realmuto) so I took it, and cause of that, I knew it'd be super tight. So played first half of season and traded Noah to SD for Trammel, Patino and Potts. I signed him to an extension before so they at least keep him going forward.

I'm not playing with the full minors (playing with the base game rosters) so I don't have Alvarez so Grandal will be my C going forward, and Trammel either in LF or CF. Patino is my future #2 hopefully
