I had manually injured him for the first month of the season and he’s just returned and played his first game. A scoreless 8th to hold a 1-0 lead. Hopefully he can help provide a reliable end of the bullpen option for me and insurance for the 9th. I’m worried in case Giles gets hurt.

      Twins Gain Giant Sweep
Seven team doubles lead to Twins’ win

      May 6, 2020
Minneapolis--- Kenta Maeda worked just five innings but the Twins’ offense knocked around the Giants bullpen and Minnesota defeated San Francisco 8-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The win completed the three game sweep for Minnesota.

Maeda (6-2) limited damage over five innings, working out of a fifth inning jam, trailing just 2-1.

The Twins’ offense took over from there, plating two runs in the fifth, three more in the sixth and one more in each the seventh and eighth innings. Seven team doubles, and two more homeruns, helped lead the charge. Josh Donaldson and Mitch Garver went deep in the victory. Garver and Jorge Polanco each drove in three runs in the game.

As for Maeda, he allowed just two runs on four hits and one walk. He struck out six Giants.

“Not my best stuff, but enough to win,” stated Maeda after the win. “I pitch. I keep team in game. My hitters win game.”

The win is Minnesota’s third in a row as they try to keep pace with the division leading White Sox. Thursday is an off-day before they embark on a 19 games in 19 days journey. On Friday, they will welcome the Kansas City Royals to town for a three-game weekend series. Jake Odorizzi (1-2, 3.70) gets the ball for Minnesota while the Royals will offer up lefty Danny Duffy (2-4, 6.45).

Cardinals place Anthony Rendon on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed 3B Anthony Rendon on the 10 Day IL due to a knee sprain. Rendon left Friday night's game against the Brewers in the 5th inning due to the injury.

Tommy Edman was recalled from Memphis to fill the vacant roster spot. It's expected that Chris Taylor will be the everyday 3rd baseman while Rendon is on the shelf. The Cardinals could also move DeJong to 3rd, and start Samuel Franco at shortstop as an option.

The Cardinals don't expect Rendon to return until the first of September.

          A proper update ...

[notes: every pitch of every game; AS with mild tweaks (fielder run speed at 4, pitch speed at 7, stuff like that); Classic + directional; no aids or guess pitch, clean screen, manual fielding).

          46-54, 4th in AL Central
          7.0 GB (Cleveland)

Just lost three straight off the AS break, to CWS, at home, a divisional opponent, and the only team behind us in the standings. All three were great games with intense finishes (3-2, 6-5, 5-4), but my god man, just pathetic. This coming off a four-game split with LAA (1st place, ALW) and taking two of three from HOU (2nd place, ALW) on the road. Come home and LAY A ****ING EGG AGAINST THE LAST-PLACE TEAM IN THE DIVISION.

          (sigh)

          Anyway .....

Roster moves: signed RF Yasiel Puig (FA) to a two-year $17M contract. In keeping with my theme of trying to inject some “sexy” to an otherwise pathetic roster, I thought this move made sense, and Puig with 66 power against RHP ranks him second in the entire system (Gregorius, 70). Also inked FA RP Arodys Vizcaino (78 OVR) to a three-year $10M deal, who immediately became the top RP in the system.

Otherwise no noteworthy signings or trades.

          Current everyday lineup:

          1. Odubel Herrera (.276, .848 OPS, 17 HR, 51 RBI)
          2. Didi Gregorius (.320, .959 OPS, 18 HR, 51 RBI)
          3. Miguel Cabrera (.338, .838 OPS, 5 HR, 47 RBI)
          4. C.J. Cron (.282, .854 OPS, 23 HR, 60 RBI)
          5. Yasiel Puig (.234, .662 OPS, 4 HR, 9 RBI)
          6. Travis Demeritte (.247, .713 OPS, 10 HR, 36 RBI)
          7. Christin Stewart (.235, .762 OPS, 13 HR, 46 RBI)
          8. Manny Pina (.249, .694 OPS, 7 HR, 21 RBI)
          9. Willi Castro (.306, .903 OPS, 4 HR, 8 RBI)

[lineup note: Stewart has been hitting 5th all season, flipped him with Puig literally today because he’s been in a giant funk; Puig had been hitting 7th; likewise Willi Castro was just recently named starting 3B]

          Bench:

          Jeimer Candelario (.238, .735 OPS, 12 HR, 28 RBI)
          Jake Rogers (.259, .685 OPS, 5 HR, 15 RBI)
          Victor Reyes (.297, .709 OPS, 0 HR, 5 RBI)
          Josh Harrison (.208, .560 OPS, 5 HR, 22 RBI)

          Team BA: .262 (16th)
          Team HR: 125 (14th)
          Team RBI: 422 (18th)
          Team SLG: .430 (14th)

          Current Rotation:

          Matthew Boyd (5-9, 109.1 IP, 4.69 ERA, 1.23 WHIP)
          Michael Fulmer (4-4, 105.1 IP, 4.36 ERA, 1.26 WHIP)
          Daniel Norris (8-3, 110.0 IP, 3.68 ERA, 1.19 WHIP)
          Spencer Turnbull (3-9, 98.0 IP, 4.59 ERA, 1.34 WHIP)
          Tarik Skubal (4-2, 36.1 IP, 3.72 ERA, 1.49 WHIP)

          Current Bullpen:

          Tyler Alexander (6-1, 61.1 IP, 3.82 ERA, 1.30 WHIP)
          Shao-Ching Chiang (0-0, 1.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP)
          Buck Farmer (4-5, 40.1 IP, 4.91 ERA, 1.36 WHIP)
          John Schreiber (0-1, 14.2 IP, 5.52 ERA, 1.36 WHIP)
          Gregory Soto (2-2, 34.0 IP, 4.24 ERA, 1.62 WHIP)
          Jose Cisnero (1-2, 37.2 IP, 2.65 ERA, 1.10 WHIP)
          Joe Jimenez (4-3, 39.2 IP, 3.63 ERA, 1.08 WHIP)
          Arodys Vizcaino (0-2, 14.1 IP, 3.77 ERA, 1.12 WHIP)

          Additional Team Stats:

          F%: .985 (28th)
          ERA: 4.71 (28th)
          S: 23 (27th)
          BS: 19 (25th)
          HRA: 150 (29th)

Division-leading Cleveland (53-47) comes in for three. I’m still running with the idea that we’re a “cool” team and have the potential to put something together and win the division. No real evidence for this. But it’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

          Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

The Cardinals (73-49) struggles continue as they were swept by the Cubs in Chicago to start of the week. The Cardinals just keep finding ways to lose a game whether its the bats being cold, starting pitchers getting into early jams/trouble, or the bullpen blowing late leads.

The only silver lining to this mess is that the Brewers and Reds have been equally as bad so the Cardinals lead in the division is still 9 1/2 games over the Brewers.

Speaking of the Brewers the Cardinals will travel to Milwaukee for a 4 game series with the Brew Crew as they can really take a stranglehold on this division, or they can make the last 6 weeks very interesting.
Umm the ebbs & flow of a 162 game's in a season! You will right the ship soon.

A Trip Around the League: MightyMaxxx13’s COVID-free MLB 2020 season Simulation

                April 8, 2020

                Rays 3, Red Sox 1
Jose Martinez and Manuel Margot homered and Blake Snell whiffed 7 over 6 IP for his second win. Rays win the rubber match to move to 8-4 and drop the Sox to 6-7.

                Yankees 3, Orioles 0
Masahiro Tanaka allowed just 4 hits over 8 shutout innings, and struck out 10. Gary Sanchez went 0-3 and saw his average drop to .081.

                White Sox 4, Mariners 2
Yoan Moncada and Nomar Mazara both homered off of Taijuan Walker in a 4-run 6th. Dallas Keuchel went 7 for the win and Alex Colome worked a shaky 9th but got the save. Mariners have lost 13 straight to start the season.

                Royals 5, Tigers 2
Danny Duffy allowed 2 runs in the 1st but settled in to work 7 innings and strike out 11. Tzu-Wei Lin was 5-5 for the Royals with a double and 2 RBI’s. Daniel Norris exited in the 2nd inning and was later diagnosed with a stress fracture in his arm. Royals have won an impressive 8 in a row.

                Twins 7, Indians 3
Twins finally got a good start out of Kenta Maeda, but Sergio Romo was the winner after blowing the save in the 7th. Luis Arraez reached base 4 times and drove in 2 runs. Indians have lost 6 of 7.

                Angels 7, Athletics 6
Angels barely hung on to win this one, as Hansel Robles allowed 2 to score in the 9th before finally getting the save. Mike Fiers walked 6 over 5 innings for the loss. Tommy LaStella was 3-4 with a homer and 3 RBI’s to lead the Halos.

                Astros 13, Mets 11
A real barnburner in Houston, which started off with a rare clunker from deGrom ( 6 runs over 6.1). Lance McCullers and Josh James were even worse, combining to allow 10 runs through 5.1. Mets led 11-5 heading to the bottom of the 7th and blew the lead anyway. Astros scored 3 off of Walker Lockett in the 8th, 2 off Edwin Diaz in the 9th, then finally walk it off in the 10th behind a 2-run homer from Yuli Gurriel off of Justin Wilson. Astros have won 5 straight.

                Braves 4, Padres 3
Marcell Ozuna hit a walkoff solo blast off Matt Strahm in the 10th for the win. Mark Melancon pitched 2 scoreless innings out of the pen for the W.

                Nationals 5, Marlins 3
Adam Eaton led the defending champs with 3 hits including a homer, and 3 RBI. Strasburg worked into the 8th and Sean Doolittle pitched a perfect 9th for his 4th save.

                Cubs 2, Pirates 1
Yu Darvish struck out 9 over 6 IP and earned his 2nd win, with help from a Kris Bryant homer. Trevor Williams was solid in the losing effort. Cubs have won 5 straight and the Pirates fall to 2-10.

                Dodgers 4, Cardinals 3
Dodgers nearly blew another one, allowing the tying run to score in the bottom of the 8th on an errant throw from Kike Hernandez with 2 runners on. Mookie Betts hit a homer off of Ryan Helsley in the top of the 11th to take the lead and Kenley Jansen would shut the door. Dodger nation is collectively worried that Walker Buehler is not himself. In 3 starts this season he’s yet to surpass 5 innings and has an ERA over 7.

                Rangers 5, Rockies 1
Rangers picked up 11 hits and Mike Minor whiffed 8 over 7 innings. Jose Leclerc struck out the side in the 9th for his 6th save.

                Diamondbacks 5, Giants 4
Merrill Kelly scattered 10 hits but just a single run over 7 innings to move to 3-0. The bullpen would nearly blow it - Archie Bradley had to be rescued by Yoan Lopez for the 3rd time this season. Lopez earned his 3rd save and was officially named the closer after the game. Evan Longoria was 3-4 and hit his 300th career homer in the loss.

                LEAGUE TRANSACTIONS

Tigers place LHP Daniel Norris on the 15-day IL with a fractured arm and recall RHP Beau Burrows from AAA Toledo. The 23-year-old Burrows was the 22nd overall pick in 2015 and is set to make his MLB debut on the 15th in Cleveland.

Royals place C Meibrys Viloria on the 10-day IL with lower back pain and recall C Cam Gallagher from AAA Omaha.

Astros place C Martin Maldonado on the 10-day IL and purchase the contract of C Dustin Garneau from AAA Round Rock.

                  Maniac Mets Franchise:
                  Padres @ Mets games 1 and 2:

Game 1: Mets could not get anything going as they were shutout by Lucchesi (10-5) 3-0. He pitched 7 innings for 5 hits and 6 SO's. Jacob deGrom took the loss (10-5) going 8 innings for 3 runs and 5 strikeouts. All 3 of the Padres runs came in the 3rd off a 2 run HR by Pham and a solo HR by Grisham. Both teams ended with 6 hits.

Game 2: A pitchers duel throughout till the late innings as the Mets took it 5-1. The game was scoreless till the 4th inning when Mejia scored the only run for the Pirates off a fielder's choice. The Mets were hitless till the 5th inning and did not score till a solo HR from 1B bench player Matt Adams who subbed in for the pitcher. Cardinals take 3 of 4 from Brewers to extend division lead

The Cardinals won 3 games of the 4 game series with the Brewers in Milwaukee over to weekend to now extend their lead in the National League Central Division to 11 1/2 games over the now 2nd place Reds.

The Cardinals lost the series opener on Thursday after Roberto Osuna was unable to get the ball to Holland for the 9th, by allowing 3 runs in the 8th inning. But the Cardinals bounced back to win Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to win the series. The Cardinals got solid pitching from Michael Wacha, Jack Flaherty, and Junior Fernandez in those 3 games, including Jack Flaherty's best outing of the year on Saturday where he threw a complete game 2 hit shutout while striking out 17 and issuing one walk.

The surprise of the series may have been Dylan Carlson who was giving guys off days until Sunday when he replaced the injured Juan Fabregas and Carlson went 7 for 11 in the series with 2 doubles and 7 RBI's. He also stole 3 bases and was responsible for 3 outfield assists.

The Cardinals get a much needed day off on Monday before returning home for a quick two game series against the Royals.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

This was one of my most epic games ever... definitely the game of the year so far in 2020.

                      JULY 7, 2020 | CHICAGO, IL

On most nights Steven Souza Jr.'s three-run homer in the top of the ninth would have been the headline, but on Tuesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field it was Brandon Morrow who stole the show. The veteran hurler made his long-awaited return and tossed a flawless eighth inning, striking out the side in order in his first Major League game in nearly two years.

"It was just great to be back out there after so many setbacks," said Morrow. "I was always optimistic that I could get back but there were plenty of bumps along the way... I just hope I can continue to contribute and help the team the rest of the way, I'm glad to be a part of it."

Morrow, 34, is on the last year of his deal with the Cubs and spent the first month of the year on the injured list before splitting time between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. His dominant inning was rewarded in the top of the ninth when Steven Souza Jr. blasted his 10th home run of the season off of White Sox closer Aaron Bummer to give the Cubs a 7-6 lead.

Craig Kimbrel notched his 26th save of the year in the bottom of the ninth to secure yet another come-from-behind victory for Cubs.

"We've just done it all year," said Cubs slugger Anthony Rizzo after the game. "We are never out of a game and just like in 2016, 'we never quit,' and it showed again tonight. This team is special and I know we have the right mix to make things happen this year."

Morrow was not the only bullpen arm to make a return to the Majors Tuesday night. Arodys Viscaino, who was signed to a one-year deal back in May, appeared in 1 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out a pair.

Jon Lester made the start for the Cubs and cruised through the first four innings before running into trouble. White Sox outfielder Luis Robert had a career-day, hitting a three-run homer in the fifth and another in the sixth to give the White Sox a 6-3 lead at the time. However, an RBI double, his second of the day, by Anthony Rizzo in the top of the eighth and the three-run homer by Souza in the ninth led the Cubs to victory over their cross-town rivals.

The Cubs will look to sweep the two-game set against the White Sox tomorrow when Kyle Hendricks (9-3, 4.24) makes the start. Carlos Rodon (8-3, 3.51) will be on the bump for the White Sox.

For the second straight night the White Sox had the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth but Craig Kimbrel shut the door to secure a one-run victory for the Chicago Cubs. Nico Hoerner's RBI double in the top of the ninth proved to be the game-winner after Yasmani Grandal blasted a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth off of Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks.

Hendricks completed 8 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while earning his 10th win of the year. Kimbrel notched his 27th save of the season as the Cubs won at Guaranteed Rate Field, 4-3, sweeping the two-game set against the White Sox.

                              Manic Mets Franchise:

                              Padres @ Mets games 3 and 4:

Game 3: Mets could not get it done as the Padres bats exploded for 14 hits and 7 runs, they win 7-5. The Mets got out to an early lead scoring 3 runs in the first 2 innings off a Pete Alonso HR and a 2 run RBI by Rosario. But Lance Lynn (9-7) had an awful outing and only went 3 and a third for 5 runs on 8 hits. He pitched over 75+ pitches as the Padres worked him.

The Mets almost made a comeback grabbing 2 runs off Puig and McNeil HR's , but it was too little too late as the lost 7-5. Hosmer of the Padres hit 2 HR's and Lagares added a HR and 2 RBI's.

Game 4: The Mets woke up today to split the series 2-2 as they took the game 7-3. They won from the first inning on off a Cespedes 3 run HR (3-4, 4 RBI's) and added 2 more runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings. Bench player Mariano Feliz added 2 RBI's and Ramos had one as well.

Corey Kluber (9-1) pitched strong going 6 and 2/3rd's off 3 runs and 7 hits. All 3 runs were in the 6th but by then it was already a 7 run lead for the Mets. Paddack (8-5) took the loss only going 2 and 2 3rd's for 5 runs and 4 BB's.

The Mets improve to 64-27. The Braves continue their hot streak as they have now won 11 in a row and are 6 games back of the Mets.

Up next: 2 more games against the rival AL leading Yankees (60-30) away before getting their first break in 9 games. The ASB approaches!

Subway Series: Game 1 of 2 @ Yankees
                                --

In the craziest game of the season, the Mets won in 12 innings 9-7 with a combined 25 hits and 9 HR's between both teams.

With 10 MPH winds the HR's were loud and plenty.

Amed Rosario started the game with a leadoff HR which was followed by a leadoff HR by the Yankees leadoff batter LeMahieu. In the 2nd, the Mets Nelson Cruz hit a 2 run HR and Wilson Ramos hit a solo HR afterwards to make it 5-2 Mets.

The Yankees responded with a Torres HR (23) and Conforto matched it with a blooper RBI to make it 6-3 Mets. In the 6th inning the Yankees added 2 runs off a first pitch HR by Sanchez to make it 6-5.

In the 9th inning with 2 outs, Seth Lugo blew his first save of the season off an RBI by Stanton. The game went to extras where in the 12th, the Mets Michael Conforto hit a 2 run HR followed by a 2 run Cespedes HR to make it 9-5 Mets.

In the bottom of the 12th, the Yankees responded with another 2 run HR with two outs from Sanchez and a double by Tauchman to give them a chance at a tie. It was up to the recently traded Met Jake Marisnick to do it for his new team, but he struck out to end it. The Mets win 9-7
                                ---
The Yankees had 16 hits while the Mets had 9. It took a combined 15 pitchers on both teams to finish this game and both teams leave exhausted before a day-game tomorrow.

Arodys Vizcaino gets the win with 2 innings in extras and 3 SO's, Tommy Kahnle gets the loss going 1 and 2/3rds innings for 3 ER, while Joakim Sora gets the save only facing one batter.

The Mets are now 65-27 while the Yankees are at 60-31, with the 2 best records in the league. The Braves finally lost after 11 straight wins making the Mets NL East lead at 7.

Up next is one more game against the Yankees before a day off and 3 games away against the Marlins before the ASB.
