Nightmare Inning Leads to Nightmare Game
Royals score 10 in the third to drop Minnesota

    May 9, 2020
Minneapolis--- The Kansas City Royals put together a 10-run third inning, leading to a beat down of their central division rival Minnesota Twins on Sunday afternoon at Target Field.

The big inning happened off Twins starter Michael Pineda without him being able to record an out, and leading to an early exit. The Royals collected nine hits and two walks in the monster inning, but surprisingly there was not a single homerun in the inning.

Pineda (0-1) was making his first start of the season, and first start since his suspension for use of a banned substance last season. He lasted just two plus innings allowing eight hits and seven runs, while recording two strikeouts.

As if the big inning wasn’t bad enough, Minnesota also lost Tyler Duffey and Max Kepler in the game due to injury. Duffey left in the fourth after just three pitches, while Kepler exited in third after getting doubled off at third base trying to advance on a fly ball to right center field.

“We just have to put this clunker behind us,” commented Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli. “Nobody wants to lose a ballgame, especially like this, but we have been playing good baseball and I have confidence that our team will bounce back.”

Minnesota will head to both Detroit and Cleveland for a seven-game road stand starting Monday. Jhoulys Chacin (3-2, 4.60) will start for the Twins, and the Tigers are scheduled to send out Matthew Boyd (2-2, 3.16). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.

Giants have the best record at 87-53. Marlins are second with a 85-55 record, and we are third at 83-58.

We are about to host the Marlins for a 3 game series where we could potentially overtake them for second. All three of us had subpar months of August as the Giants watched a 10 game lead over the Padres dwindle down to 4.5 right now (Sept 7th) Marlins have struggled but so have the Braves who are in 2nd so their lead is 10 games. Same for us and Brewers/Reds as we struggled but they didn't play much better and we lead the Brewers by 8 1/2.

Our magic number to clinch is 14.

I don't know that we will catch the Giants as we haven't been playing well and injuries are really hampering our team right now. I just lost Harrison Bader for 2 weeks due to a pulled hamstring and Greg Holland injured his hamstring on the final play of the game against the Pirates so he's out for 15 days.

We still have Junior Fernandez and Michael Wacha on the IL but both should return for Phillies series in a week.

We would probably have to win at least 15 of our last 21 to earn home field advantage for the playoffs. I'm more concerned with toppling the Marlins so we could at least host the NLDS, but they are scary good in my franchise as are the Giants. Giants may be the most complete team, but the Marlins have the most dangerous lineup. We probably have the best pitching staff in the National League and deepest bullpen, but as has been the case for us, our bullpen isn't as consistent as I would like, or hope, considering the arms we have there.

Going to be a fun final few weeks of the season to see where we land.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Chacin, Rosario Help Twins Edge Tigers
Right hander goes seven strong innings

          May 10, 2020
Detroit--- Jhoulys Chacin went seven strong innings and Eddie Rosario broke out of an 0-for-14 slump with a double and a homerun as the Minnesota Twins held on to edge the Detroit Tigers 5-4 at Comerica Park Monday night.

Chacin (4-2) was efficient all night as he threw just 86 pitches over his seven innings of work. He allowed three runs on five hits with a couple of walks. He struck out five Tigers in the outing. Taylor Rogers allowed an unearned run in the ninth but left runners on second and third to preserve the win for his fifth save of the season.

Eddie Rosario, who had seen his average dip down to .221 on the year, broke out of his slump with a double and a homerun.

“I am just trying to get back to basics,” commented Rosario from the winning clubhouse. “Boyd is a tough lefty, so I know that I had to stay inside the baseball. That double felt good.”

The Twins also got a three-run homerun from Miguel Sano in the fifth to take the lead. Jake Cave followed with a solo-shot of his own as the Twins scored four in the inning off starter Matthew Boyd.

Boyd (2-3) was on cruise control, allowing just one hit before the big fifth inning. He finished six innings with seven strikeouts.

The Twins and Tigers will meet up again tomorrow night for game two of the four game series. Jose Berrios (0-4, 3.45) is still searching for his first win of the year, while lefty Daniel Norris (2-2, 3.57) will look to slow down the powerful Minnesota bats.

Schoop Drives in Three in Tigers Win
            Berrios falls to 0-5

            May 11, 2020
Detroit--- Johnathan Schoop was a double shy of the cycle and Daniel Norris tossed six and one-third quality innings as the Detroit Tigers ended their five-game losing streak by defeating the Minnesota Twins 6-1 Tuesday evening.

Schoop had a single in the second, an RBI-triple in the fourth, and a two-run homerun in the sixth as he ended three for four on the night with three runs batted in.

“I spent some time on the injured list earlier in the year, so I feel that I am just getting into a good groove right now,” commented the former Twin.

Norris (3-2) was equally as impressive, tossing six and one-third innings of one-run ball. His lone blemish was a sac fly in the third. He finished allowing five hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

Berrios (0-5) was a tough luck loser again, allowing four runs over six innings, with the Schoop homer being the big blemish. He allowed five hits with three walks, while recording five strikeouts.

Eddie Rosario contributed two of the five Minnesota hits.

The Twins-Tigers rival will continue Wednesday as Kenta Meada (6-2, 2.53) and Jordan Zimmerman (2-2, 1.87) will lock horns. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.

The team has reached out to veteran catcher and former Pirate Russell Martin to discuss a possible reunion. This team sorely needs a veteran presence and the fans could use a familiar face to root for as we likely won’t win many games this year. Unfortunately, Russ won’t play for less than $3 million. The 37-year-old won’t start even if he does sign, so at that price the reunion likely isn’t going to happen.

Yankees Drop 2 Of 3 To Twins

This one was the toughest series of the year so far, each game was a hard fought battle.
Game 1: Clarke Schimidt would leave with tightness in his back after facing just one batter. The just recalled to be a fresh LR David Hale, would go 5 innings allowing 2 runs. Twins Ace Jose Berrios would go 6.2 IP alllowing 2 runs. Sergio Romo would relieve him, and with 2 outs in the 8th and a runner on 2nd Mike Ford would pull a 2 run HR off the foul poll to give the Yankees a 4-2 lead. Clippard locked it down in the 9th striking out the side.

Game 2: Cole would be gone after just 4 IP giving up 4 runs as he just didn’t have his usual stuff that night. Maeda would go 5.1 IP allowing 4 runs. After 2 scoreless frames from new LR Jordan Montgomery, a scoreless inning from Clippard, an ugly 0.2 IP with 3 walks from Ottavino, we skip to the 9th with Luis Avilan on the mound. Donaldson would take him deep putting his Twins up 5-4. The Yankees would get the tying run on 1st, but nothing would come of it.

Game 3: It was a 5 and fly outing from Paxton as he held them to 1 run over those 5 IP. Jake Odorizzi held us to 1 run through 5.1 IP. Gleyber Torres bashed a solo HR off Homer Bailey in the 6th to put us up 2-1. Green and Chapman would combine to get us to the 9th. In the bottom of the 8th Stanton would strikeout with the bases loaded and 2 outs on a likely ball 4 pitch. That choke would prove costly.
Clippard came on in the 9th, and the Twins would put runners on 1B and 3B no outs off him. With Sano down to 2 strikes, Clippard would have to leave after somehow bruising his arm. They tied it up off Kahnle, and went ahead 3-2 off Britton. Ford hit a lead off single off Closer Taylor Rogers. Tauchman would PR. Gardner bunts him over. Urshela PH for Wade hitting a grounder that moved the tying run to 3B. Voit PH’s for Goins and works a walk. The game comes down to...Higashioka. With no one left to PH Rogers goes right after him inducing a game ending pop up. Twins Win 3-2.

Next Up: After a tough tiring series with the Twins, we head West to take on the Angels in the final 3 days of May. We are now 39-18, 5 games up on the 2nd place Rays. Definitely feeling the losses of both LeMahieu and Sanchez. The draft is only 5 days away as well.

Twins’ Shutout Tigers Behind Maeda’s Strong Outing
                  Right hander goes six innings

                  May 12, 2020
Detroit--- Kenta Maeda continued his strong first season in Minnesota, firing six shutout innings and the bullpen preserved the shutout as the Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 6-0 on Wednesday.

Maeda (7-2) collected his league-leading seventh win, allowing just three hits and three walks. He also recorded seven strikeouts.

The top of Minnesota’s order in Max Kepler, Jorge Polanco, Josh Donaldson and Nelson Cruz went a combined seven for seventeen with two walks on the night, with Polanco, Donaldson and Cruz all homering in the victory.

Tigers starter Jordan Zimmerman (2-3) threw the ball well, but was lifted after five and two-thirds innings and 96 pitches thrown. The bullpen struggled in keeping the game close as they allowed four runs over the final three and one-thirds innings.

The Twins and Tigers will meet up again tomorrow afternoon, closing out the four game series with a first pitch time of 1:10 PM. Righty Jake Odorizzi (1-3, 4.09) will toe the rubber for Minnesota, while the Tigers will send out youngster Case Mize (2-3, 4.62).

                    PITTSBURGH PIRATES FRANCHISE

                    March 9, 2020

14 games in to Spring Training, Pirates have won 6 of them. Getting a good idea of how the Opening Day Roster is going to shake out. We’ve made one minor transaction, designating RHP Chris Stratton for assignment and purchasing the contract of LHP Robbie Erlin from AAA Indianapolis. We experimented with using an opener for Stratton as our 5th “starter,” but the results were not encouraging. I’m confident he clears outright waivers so there’s a chance he makes it back into our bullpen at some point this season. Erlin will pull double duty as a longman and lefty matchup guy. Our only other lefty, Sam Howard, has been OK but from the start I knew we’d have to add another southpaw to this pen.

That means Chad Kuhl is our most likely 5th starter. He’s been decent, allowing 4 runs over 10 IP and striking out 7.

Top prospect Ke’Bryan Hayes has been mashing. In 30 at bats he’s got 11 hits, 4 homers, and 11 RBI. My aim for him was to start the year in AAA but it looks like he’s ready to stay with the big club.

Oneil Cruz has been raking as well, with a homer and 6 RBI’s in 15 AB’s. He still needs some work defensively however and was never really on the radar as far as cracking the roster.

Sorting out the bullpen means we are probably going to lose a few guys to waiver claims. Dovydas Neverauskas, Clay Holmes, and Michael Feliz are all out of options and I can’t see keeping all 3 of them. 13 games left for them to prove they are worthy of keeping.

Completed a 7 game road trip

Well it started off in the "Twin City" vs. the Twins. I swept them 3 games clean! I should have the Twins are almost 20 gms under .500(49-62), so I took care of business. Starting pitching was fantastic! Newc,Folty & Soroka all were dominant going 7.0IP/per start and earning their wins.

On to South Beach, vs. the Marlins. The Marlins is in the same boat as the Twins, almost 30 gms under .500(43-70). I ended splitting the 4 gm series w/Marlins. Giving us a 5-2 road trip which not bad at all! My one concern during is that SP Julio Teheran got boat race by the Marlins in his start on the road. Giving up 9ER in 1.1IP. Ouch! His ERA ballooned to 3.61 on the yr. More than likely knocking him out of the Cy Young Race, but still on track of being a 20 game winner.

I eclipsed the 70 win plateau, actually my record is 71-50. Headed back to Atlanta for some home cooking. A 9 gm home-stand. Which consist of 3 gms vs. the Mets(69-49)0.5GB of me(1st in the NL East). 3 gms vs. the Dodgers(79-41), best record in the NL. We got swept by them in L.A. in May. Playoff preview for sure and lastly 3 gms vs. the Marlins(45-72).

Currently I have the 2nd best record(71-50) in the NL. Just a 1.5 gms up on the Cubs(70-48). Looking forward to a home game NLDS vs. anyone...LOL. Maybe the Cards(64-53), who are in the top 2 in the WC race with the Mets.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Hi everyone. I am getting pretty deep into my franchise as I enter year 5. I know some of the names may be looking unfamiliar so I thought I can do a "Meet the Young Cubs" post for you guys. Here is the future of the Cubs! Part 1

                        2B Alan Quick
                        Drafted 2020 (1st RD)

                        Best Year: 4HR/49RBI/46SB/.279AVG/.350BP

Bio: Alan Quick was the Cubs 1st rd pick in 2020 and was MLB ready fairly quickly. Becoming the Cubs 2B in 2022. He had an impressive rookie year as seen above. His 2nd year was a nit of a slip in AVG and RBI but still produced 47SB. At only 25 years old he still has a ton of time left to prove he is a core of the Cubs lineup. Question is will he be the .300+ top of the order bat the Cubs envisioned.

                        OF Henry Browning
                        Drafted 2020 (2nd RD)

                        Best Year: 21HR/66RBI/47SB/.272AVG/.329OBP

Bio: Henry Browning was in the same draft class as quick and despite being 2 years younger was able to debut in the same year in 2022 at only 21 years old. His rookie year was a struggle batting .213 in 211 AB’s. His next year he was thrust into the starting role and proved himself with the statline above. The Cubs are still hoping he can take another leap forward as the Illinois native is still only 23 years old.

                        1B/OF Devin Jackson
                        Drafted 2021: (3rd Round)
Best Year: Rookie Limited Playing Experience
Bio: Jackson saw some time last year during the Cubs championship run, but still spent most of his time in AAA. He has the ability to play the corner outfield spots and 1B. He has a pretty balanced build where he can hit lefties and righties with some pop, and he has below average defense. At 23 years old the Cubs are hoping he can have a bigger impact at the MLB level in 2024. Especially with Rizzo entering a contract year.

                        1B/OF Gary Scruggs
Drafted: 2020 (2nd RD by DET) Acquired in 2021 for Albert Almora

                        Best Year: 16HR/53RBI/.319AVG/.363OBP

Bio: Gary Scruggs was acquired prior to the 2021 season and was immediately on the Cubs roster that won the championship that year. He was a big force in doing so as seen by his impressive rookie year above. That was all done at 21 years old.
Now at 24 Scruggs is still trying to replicate that success. The two seasons since his rookie year he has struggled to find the same success. Still only 24 years old the potential of Scruggs still remains to be seen. Him and Jackson are both looking for an everyday role with the possible departure of Rizzo after 2024.

                        OF Anthony Williams
                        Drafted 2021: (2nd Rd)
                        Best Year: NO MLB STATS

Bio: Anthony Williams projects to be a reliable 4th OF for the Cubs in the foreseeable future. What also makes him interesting his his ability to play catcher if need be. This can prove valuable for the Cubs. Williams has no power, but has solid ability to put the bat on the ball and speed to get on base and be a threat. At only 22 years old it is possible Williams is on this team for awhile seeing solid playing time off the bench.

                          2B Alan Quick
                          Drafted 2020 (1st RD)

                          Best Year: 4HR/49RBI/46SB/.279AVG/.350BP

Bio: Alan Quick was the Cubs 1st rd pick in 2020 and was MLB ready fairly quickly. Becoming the Cubs 2B in 2022. He had an impressive rookie year as seen above. His 2nd year was a nit of a slip in AVG and RBI but still produced 47SB. At only 25 years old he still has a ton of time left to prove he is a core of the Cubs lineup. Question is will he be the .300+ top of the order bat the Cubs envisioned.

                          OF Henry Browning
                          Drafted 2020 (2nd RD)

                          Best Year: 21HR/66RBI/47SB/.272AVG/.329OBP

Bio: Henry Browning was in the same draft class as quick and despite being 2 years younger was able to debut in the same year in 2022 at only 21 years old. His rookie year was a struggle batting .213 in 211 AB’s. His next year he was thrust into the starting role and proved himself with the statline above. The Cubs are still hoping he can take another leap forward as the Illinois native is still only 23 years old.

                          1B/OF Devin Jackson
                          Drafted 2021: (3rd Round)
Best Year: Rookie Limited Playing Experience
Bio: Jackson saw some time last year during the Cubs championship run, but still spent most of his time in AAA. He has the ability to play the corner outfield spots and 1B. He has a pretty balanced build where he can hit lefties and righties with some pop, and he has below average defense. At 23 years old the Cubs are hoping he can have a bigger impact at the MLB level in 2024. Especially with Rizzo entering a contract year.

                          1B/OF Gary Scruggs
Drafted: 2020 (2nd RD by DET) Acquired in 2021 for Albert Almora

                          Best Year: 16HR/53RBI/.319AVG/.363OBP

                          Drafted 2021: (2nd Rd)
                          Best Year: NO MLB STATS

That is a helluva scouting and improvement guy! Potential trade chips for sure. MLB ready prospects..... Good for you!

                            3B Doug Paolucci
                            Drafted: 2020 (3rd Round)

                            Best Year: 14HR/44RBI/.222AVG/.286

Bio: Paolucci saw substantial playing time on the Cubs last year when star slugger Miguel Sano missed a couple months to injury. While the #’s were not great, it showed some promise for the young infielder. Paolucci has potential for great pop, but he is a liability in the IF. The Cubs are hoping he can be a reliable bat off the bench in 2024.

                            OF Brennen Davis
                            Drafted: 2018 (2nd Round)

                            Best Year: Limited Time

Bio: Brennen Davis has yet to find a role on the MLB team. He has seen only 131AB’s in 2022-23 at the MLB level, coming up sporadically. At 24 years old the Cubs are hoping he becomes a more substantial piece on the roster at the MLB level. He is a great outfielder and interestingly his comparison resembles former Cub Albert Almora. Hits well vs Lefties and has a great glove.

                            SP Brailyn Marquez
                            Drafted: 2015 International Free Agent

                            Best Year: 15-11, 3.77ERA, 191IP, 171K’s.

Bio: Marquez signed at a young age as a free agent in 2015 and found his spot in the Cubs rotation in 2023 and was a big reason why they were able to make the playoffs. He also put up solid innings in the postseason in a championship season. Marquez will be 24 this season and is looking to establish himself as a core piece of the rotation for years to come.

                            SP Bernard Nowak
                            Drafted: 2021 (1st Round Pick)

                            Best Year: 1-1, 47IP, 5.17ERA

Bio: Nowak got some time in 2023 as a rookie out of the bullpen. The numbers were not great, but he will be looking to improve upon those this year. He may be the odd guy on the roster that will spot start sometimes and come out of the pen. Cubs will be asking a lot of the 23 year old in 2024.

                            SP Francis Easley
                            Drafted: 2020 (5th RD)

                            Best Year: No MLB Experience

Bio: Easley has taken his time getting to the MLB. He was a 5th round pick in 2020 with Browning and Quick, but has taken time to develop. Easley will get a shot as the #5 in the rotation this year. MLB scouts see a lot of potential in Easley, but it could take even more time to reach it.

                            SP Jose Serrano
                            Drafted: 2022 (1st Rd)

                            Best Year: Still in Minors

Bio: Jose Serrano has a lot of expectations. He is lauded as a top 10 prospect in baseball, and many scouts believe he is ready to jump to the MLB right now at only 20 years old. The Cubs are not pulling him up yet, but it is just a matter of time before the Cubs top prospect gets to show what he has at the MLB level. Serrano has 5 pitches in his arsenal and looks to be a strikeout machine, but struggles giving up HR and hits. When he is on, he is on.

Haha thanks! Love building up a farm system. Keeps it fun & fresh to have these guys coming up. I always notice the 1st year of franchise has the best draft, so I did my best to scout as good as possible.

How do you go about your carry over franchise? I like you using custom batter walk-up music, courtesy of Lowlight and crew! I like having some form of realism meaning player's getting erased via retirement or playing in an International league. But I found easy to edit and match-up a player who isn't in the game.

Maybe for the PS5 we will get all-in name database we had years ago. Because I am committed to this Braves franchise I started in 19'. Being out of work, due to the pandemic has allowed me to complete a season soon.

Thank you all for sharing your franchise!
