    Game 2:

Strasburg would be pummeled for 7 runs and forced out of the game after just 2.1 IP. Meanwhile Bauer would prove that our deadline deal to acquire him was worth it by holding the Nats to 2 runs over 5.2 IP.

Frazier came up big again with a multi HR game. One a Solo shot, and 1 a 3 Run Blast that really broke the game open.

    Yankees Win 7-2.

Game 3: Series Shifts To DC

Paxton and Corbin would dual in a crucial Game 3. Paxton was solid allowing 1 run over 5 IP. We would get to Corbin a bit for 3 runs over 5 IP. It was a tight game until the 8th and 9th, where it would become a blowout after we added 4 more runs making it 7-1. Washington would scratch 1 across in the 9th, but that would be it.

    Yankees Win 7-2.....Again.

This team has really flipped a switch after slumping through September. We’ve only lost one playoff game so far. Dropping Montgomery for Avilan has paid off, with Avilan tossing 2 scoreless innings so far this series.

The Nationals just haven’t been able to drive many runners in. They’ve loaded the bases once in all 3 games and failed to score anything each time.

    Next:

Game 4: Tanaka Vs Austin Voth

The defending champs find themselves in a nightmare scenario down 3-0, needing 4 straight wins. If they can win these next 2 games the series will move back to Yankee Stadium. If they can survive G4, Scherzer would take the mound for G5. For us, Tanaka will attempt to lead us to #28 and a celebration on the Nationals field.

Would think Voth has a short leash for Washington! How was he in the regular season?

Blue Jays 2022 Spring Training news flash

As the last week of spring looms, the Blue Jays are still figuring out the last pieces of the puzzle. It's good news (mostly), but the Jays are running out of time to make these last few decisions.

The struggle for the final starting spot

Lozano, McMullen, (Fernando) Chavez, and Baez are all locked into the rotation, however that final slot is still up in the air.

Miguel Blanco still holds the lead, but only by the smallest margin. Manuel Chavez, Ron Gilmore, and Pablo Gomez are all hot on his heals, and Troy Reyes is not far behind.

      Profile breakdowns:

Miguel Blanco - A well balanced pitcher who was once considered the top prospect in the league. excitement around him has died down quite a bit since he spent a few years floundering in the Blue Jays system, but he held in there, staying with the Jays partly due to the Jays feeling unable to get the value they wished for him in the trade market. He looks much improved this year, with his offspeed pitches looking much better to help out with his two fastballs. Fastballs will still be his bread and butter, but his other pitches are now assets as opposed to liabilities.

Manuel Chavez - scouting had him pegged as a decent but not overly exciting prospect, Chavez does bring one unique thing to the table: his knuckleball. Personally, I think his best scenario outlook for his career is as a middle of the rotation innings eater, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Ron Gilmore - Fireballing lefty with a killer CH to combo with his 99MPH fastball, a slider that comes in so fast it can pull double duty as a cutter, and a half decent curveball. Gilmore was in the rotation last year, and was very good. However he's looked shaky in spring. Regardless of how the Jays end up using him this year, odds are we'll see him on the trade block at some point in 2022. He'll be on his last year of arbitration next year, the Blue Jays can't afford to keep him past that, and there have been rumours swirling around that he's dissatisfied playing on the Blue Jays. He is also out of options, so a trade this spring is not entirely out of the question.

Pablo Gomez - Has turned things around a bit since loosing his spot to Blanco. His control looks a lot better which he needs in order to be successful. Personally I'm unsure if the trend will hold if he starts again, but I think I might be biased against him just because sending him down is easier than the other options from both an option and morale perspective.

Troy Reyes - Classic sinkerballer with some decent velocity. Reyes currently looks a step below the other options, but a good, solid choice in the rotation if the need ever arises, and a solid option to fill spots in the future when the Jays start leaking talent (like Gilmore for example).

Final bench spot only lineup decision left

With the rest of the spots locked in, the final bench spot is hotly contested.

      Player breakdowns:

Alfredo Moreno: The catcher brings a lot of positives if he makes it. He can act as 1B backup for when Montano needs a rest, he's Venezuelan which helps with Sardinas's and Perez's morale, and adding a third catcher to the bench allows the Blanco, Rodriguez duo to DH on days when their assigned pitcher isn't pitching, a situation likely to happen if he does make it. However, Moreno has faltered a bit in the latter half of spring and is on the cusp of getting cut. A shame too, I could really use those benefits.

Steve Roman: The utility infielder doesn't bring anything exciting to the table, but he can man all infield competently. He's mostly be acting as backup to Montano, as no-one else on the bench can, and Daniel Franco will likely field when a 2B, 3B, or SS is needed.

Chris Manual: While this option does create a problem for covering 1B, it also helps flesh out MLB outfield depth. Manual is comfortable in all 3 positions unlike the locked bench option Perez, who has to rely on Bloom's versatility when subbed in. Manual also makes for an excellent pinch runner with elite speed and basestealing ability. He can even field 3rd in a pinch, and while it's not my first choice, I'd call his coverage of third good enough to cover in a pinch running scenario.

Matt Leone: Has really turned his bat around in the latter half, but still occupies the bottom on the list for a few reasons. Sure, his left handed high contact bat is a bonus, but it comes with no pop, his legs have no speed, and his rate of contact isn't high enough to compensate. He's a good enough fielder, but Franco is much better, covers the same positions, and is locked onto making the team. Honestly career wise I don't see Leone becoming anything more than a placeholder for the Jays while higher skilled and more interesting players develop That need may arise in the next couple of years, but certainly not today.

I'm curious what others thoughts are on these two situations. I could use an outside perspective on these two situations, if only to help motivate a decision from myself.

Cardinals drop series to Giants over weekend

The Cardinals (4-5) struggled against the Giants over the weekend losing 2 of the 3 games, winning Sunday to avoid the sweep.

Jack Flaherty and Junior Fernandez were both roughed up in their starts against the Giants potent lineup as neither was able to get through 5 innings of work. This marks the 2nd start in a row where Flaherty was roughed up and continues a trend that we say at the end of last season. To say their is growing concern for Flaherty's effectiveness would be an understatement. Flaherty gave up 7 runs over his 4 1/3 innings of work, including 3 homeruns. He recorded a shocking zero strikeouts.

Junior Fernandez was just as ineffective going 4 2/3 innings before being pulled after Chance Sisco's grand slam put up the 8th run off of Fernandez in the game.

The Cardinals were able to salvage a victory on Sunday when Dakota Hudson had one of his best performances as a starter for the Cardinals as he went 8 strong innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and striking out 13. This included striking out 2026 NL MVP Chance Sisco all 3 times the two squared off. Hudson's performance also allowed manager Mike Matheny to rest a weary bullpen that has been overused this first week plus of games. Adam Cimber pitched a perfect 9th to close out the 8-2 victory.

The Cardinals continue to be led offensively by Juan Fabregas, J.J. Bleday and Nolan Gorman. All 3 are hitting .380 plus (Fabregas over .420) on the season and Gorman leads the team with 9 RBI's in 9 games.

The Cardinals will hit the road for a 4 game series in Milwaukee before returning home next weekend to host the Pirates.

Top prospect Jack Leiter will make his major league debut on Tuesday when he will start for the Cardinals.

Cardinals activate Devon Snow from IL

The Cardinals have activated catcher Devon Snow from the 10-Day IL after Sunday's win against the Giants. Snow will be in the lineup Monday evening when the Cards face the Brewers. Snow has not played in the regular season this year after suffering a pulled back muscle in the final week of Spring Training.

Ivan Herrera was optioned back to Memphis.

            Weekly report

After the First week of the Season the Mets find themselves at 4-3. Starting off in Atlanta for four games they spilt the series. Winning the first, losing the next two and wiining the fourth. In Washington the Mets took 2 of 3 form the Nats.

Noah Syndergaard isn't perforing very well for the Mets at the moment. In his first game (Loss vs ATL) He only went 6 innings but gave up 3 runs and 2 home runs. In his next start @DC it wasn't any better, in fact he couldn't make it past the 3rd. Giving up 7 runs on 7 hits and giving up 3 home runs this time. His Sinker has been extremely flat so far this year, a pitch he normal excels with. "I just dont have the feel of the pitch where I need it to be" Syndergaard said after the loss to D C.

            Upcoming Schedule

The Mets head home to face off against Cincinnati where they will raise their first World Series banner in a very long time. After Cincy they will have 2 games vs Tampa Bay then its back on the road again in Chicago and Cincinnati. In fact the Mets in the first month and change play 21 games on the road and just 11 home games.

Jack Leiter wins in major league debut

22 year old Jack Leiter won his first career MLB game in his first career MLB start on Tuesday, as the Cardinals defeated the Brewers 7-3.

Jack Leiter went 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits and striking out 5. He wasn't overly dominant, but he did the job that was asked and pitched effectively enough to give the Cardinals a chance to win the game, which they did. The biggest takeaway is probably the fact that Leiter did this on the road.

Leiter, who the Cardinals acquired from the Yankees in the Yoan Moncada deal, was slated to the be Opening Day starter at Memphis this year, but was called up when Kyle Funkhouser was placed on the 15 Day IL due to a strained oblique.

It's likely that Leiter will get his 2nd MLB start this coming Sunday in the Cardinals series finale at home against the Pirates.

Welcome to the Cardinals family Jack Leiter, I suspect that in the not so distant future, you'll be a staple in the 5 man rotation.

He was actually very good. It’s not a full sample size because he didn’t start the year in their rotation, only 114 IP, but he had a 2.76 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. He’s progressed to a 82 Overall and his morale has him boosted to an 84 Overall right now.

2.25 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 12 postseason innings so far too.

                  Jay’s Cubs Wrap Up: 2024

The Cubs start long intercontinental road trip, first facing off against the Giants.

The Giants made a big splash in free agency a few years ago when they signed Lindor but the move has not been fruitful as they have wallowed at the bottom of the NL West standings. Lindor took a chance on the highest bid but has grown frustrated with losing and the unwillingness of the front office surround him with additional pieces. Lindor will likely have to stew longer as SF has announced that finding a bid for the short stop that is adequate would be next to impossible due to his large contract.
In the first game Kyle Hendricks was back and didn’t show any signs of arm trouble as he pitched 6 scoreless innings. The Cubs did keep him on a pitch count but Hendricks was able to keep the Giants hitters off balance as he allowed 2 hits and struck out 5 and had a perfect game through 4 innings. The Cubs were able to get by the Giants 2-0 after a single by Nico Hoerner and a home run by Miguel Amaya.
In the second game the Cubs were able to win 3-2 as Degrom picked up another win. Degrom kept up the worrying theme of giving up the long ball as he allowed 2 home runs; one to Lindor in the 4th and to Domingo Santana in the 6th Degrom was able to do so without men on base the Cubs were able to pull ahead on a RBI double in the 6th by Oscar Colas. In the 3rd game of the series that Cubs were able to strike early as Contreras had a 2 rbi single to put the cubs on the board. The giants were able to answer in the 3rd with a 2 run home run but the cubs came back with a 2 run dinger of their own in the 5th by Contreras. The score would remain the same until the 9th when Clase gave up a run but was able to keep his save as he moved 7 for 7 in save opportunities on the year. In the final game of the series Adonis Medina got the start and it was a back and forth one as Medina loss composure in the 4th and gave away the lead. The Cubs answered to tie it at 5-5 in the 7th and won the game off a Kris Bryant home run in the top of the 9th.

The Cubs had no rest as they headed to Pittsburgh to play 3. Puk was able to blank the Pirates who have been woeful to start the year and are nearly the bottom of every offense category. Puk did scatter 9 hits but kept them off the board as he collected 8 K’s in the 5-0 win. In the second game Kyle Hendricks and Joe Musgrove locked horns and had shut outs going until the 7th inning. The Cubs were able to get on the board with a solo home run by Kyle Schwarber. The Pirates would go to to their bullpen but they didn’t fair much better as they walked Javy Baez that set up Danny Santana’s 2 run home run. That would be all the Cubs needed as Kyle Hendricks was able to go 7 innings giving up 4 hits and a walk while striking out 7. Hendricks moved his record to 6-0 and has a 1.07 ERA on the year. In the final game the Cubs struggled at the plate. In previous seasons they had made Brandon Waddell their whipping boy but had the answer for Cubs this season as they only could muster 1 run. Oscar Colas was saddled with the loss as he gave up 2 runs. The Pirates were able to break the game open when O’Neil Cruz hit a pinch hit home run to make it 4-1. The Cubs would end up surrendering another 2 runs in the 1-6 loss. The Cubs will return home to face off against the Giants this time at Wrigley field.

Blue Jays 2022 Final Spring Report/40 man Depth Chart

The final decisions have been made and I'm preparing to head north for the 2022 season. Here is the final depth chart for the team moving into April. I'll keep the blurbs short for the sake of brevity, otherwise I'll be at this all day.

                    SP

Ace - Jose Lozano - Expected Cy Young award winner. Assigned Catcher: Blanco

#2 - Adam McMullen - Ace quality lefty. Assigned Catcher: Rodriguez

#3 - Fernando Chavez - Solid #2 to Ace quality pitching. Brilliant career so far if not for the plague of injuries. Assigned Catcher: Blanco

#4 Alonso Baez - #2 to Ace quality pitching. Will look to proove rookie of the year was no fluke. Assigned Catcher: Blanco

#5 Miguel Blanco - High ceiling rookie with a lot to proove. Assigned Catcher: Moreno

LRP/Spot Starter/First replacement - Ron Gilmore - Bit of a wild card right now, but certainly has potential.

AAA Ace - Pablo Gomez - Could easily slot into a lesser rotation.

AAA #2 - Manuel Chavez - MLB bottom half quality innings eater.

AAA #3 - Troy Reyes - High ceiling pitcher whose good enough to be a bottom of the rotation pitcher now, if the need arises.

AAA #4 - Jorge Hernandez - Still a year away at least.

                    RP

Closer - Rodger Ambercrombie - Shook off a bad spring start to become the best bullpen option yet again.

8th inning SU - Fernando Elez - Very rough spring, but a late return to form and stellar performances over the past 2 years earn him the start in this spot.

7th inning SU - Ozzie Reyes - Very strong looking fireballer.

6th inning SU - Johnnie Kellogg - Solid reliable lefty.

#1 MRP - Joe Palmeiro - This rookie looks ready to rock the league with a solid cutter and curveball.

#2 MRP/LRP - Darell Drese - Drese will cover some high pressure and some low pressure situations.

#3 MRP - Steven Mota - Will mostly be given the ball in low pressure situations to give the rest of the bullpen rest.

AAA Closer - Jose Franco - His late turn around didn't show enough improvement. AAA tune up needed, but if successful, will be top choice for replacement in case of injury.

                    C

There will be a three way platoon actually fielding the position, but the depth chart goes as follows.

                    1. Jonathon Blanco - Solid work behind the plate and high average singles hitter. Will often DH when not assigned.

                    2. Ray Rodriguez - Work behind the plate has improved to help sell his elite hitting. Will often DH when not assigned.

                    3. Alfredo Moreno - Mostly made it due to good OBP. Appears in 1B depth chart as well.

Injury Callup - Randy Starkey - Has MLB ready defense but a replacement bat at best. Good callup in case of injury.

                    1B

Starter - Julian Montano - Good spring that could have been a lot better if not for some very bad luck (lots of line drives at people, facing very careful pitching, etc)

                    Backup - Alfredo Moreno

                    Injury Callup - Steve Roman

                    2B

                    Starter - Jeremy Funk

                    Backup - Daniel Franco

Injury Callups - Matt Leone, Steve Roman, Tanner Manzanillo

                    3B

                    Starter - Xander Bogaerts

                    Backup - Daniel Franco

Injury Callups - Matt Leone, Steve Roman, Joel Julio, Tanner Manzanillo

                    SS

                    Starter - Luis Sardinas

Backup - Daniel Franco - Has shown great defensive improvement this year, on top of seeming to shake the sophomore slump. With Jeremy Funk extended and the Jays up against their internal budget next season, seems likely that Franco is the SS of the future.

                    Backup #2 - Xander Bogaerts

                    Injury Callups - Steve Roman

                    LF

Starter - Trey Bloom - Expect Bloom to be a key part of the Jays lineup this year, if not THE key piece of the puzzle.

Backups - Roberto Perez, Floyd Moyer - Both are in a dead heat for this role. Perez brings better defense, Moyer better offense.

                    Injury Callup - Chris Manuel

                    CF

Starter - Jarome Mauzoul - Expect some more pop in his bat this year, making him the second biggest overall contributor to the team after Bloom.

                    Backup - Trey Bloom

                    Injury Callup - Chris Manuel

                    RF

Starter - Bryce Harper - Expectations are a little lower this year. He'll still be a superstar, but no longer the unstoppable juggernaut he was when he batted #4 for "the dogs" (the year when Trout, Harper, and Bloom got walked an obscene amount).

Backups - Trey Bloom, Floyd Moyer

                    Injury Callup - Chris Manuel

                    Linup (VS RHP DH only)

SS Luis Sardinas - Will bat #2 when Mauzoul needs rest
CF Jerome Mauzoul - Will bat #1 if both Sardinas and Funk need a rest
                    RF Bryce Harper
LF Trey Bloom - Will bat #3 if Harper needs a rest
1B Julian Montano - Will shift up the 4 when needed
3B Xander Bogaerts - Will shift up to 5 when needed (4 VS LHP)
2B Jeremy Funk - Will lead off when needed
C/DH Ray Rodriguez - Will bat #2 when needed (RHP only)
C/DH Jonathon Blanco - Will bat #2 when needed

                    Bench

                    RF/LF Floyd Moyer
                    SS/2B/3B Daniel Franco
                    C/1B Alfredo Moreno
                    LF Roberto Perez

Available for trade right now(40 man only)

Jackie Ferris, Andres Lopez, Ron Gilmore, Jorge Hernandez

Yankees Win World Series, Back On Top Of MLB

Game 4: Voth would quickly implode in the 2nd allowing 4 runs. The Nationals would go to Stephen Strasburg out of the pen to stop the bleeding there, and he would, escaping the 2nd and ended up tossing 3.1 scoreless innings before being PH for. Strasburg was quickly rocked in G2, allowing him to be rested enough to pitch in relief in this game if needed. The Nats bullpen was near perfect only allowing a Solo HR to postseason hero Clint Frazier in the 8th.

Unfortunately, lack of timely hitting doomed the Nationals again.
Eaton would hit into a inning ending DP in the 7th down 4-2 with 2 runners on.
In the 8th, PH Ryan Zimmerman would strikeout to end the inning with 1 man on.
Soto grounded into a inning ending DP with runners on earlier in the game as well.
They would finish with 11 hits to our 8, still losing.

Tanaka would be pulled after just 4 innings after surrendering 2 runs on a 2 run shot from Victor Robles
We would need a combo of Green, Ottavino, Chapman, and Kahnle to get us to the 9th. Then...we would call on Ace Gerrit Cole needing just 3 outs to win it all.
Robles would lead off with a HR making it a 5-3 game, but Cole would lock it down from there.

For the first time since 2009....the Yankees are your WS Champions!
Robles did all he could for his Nationals in Game 4, but their title defense is over.

                      Your Postseason MVP: Clint Frazier
Your World Series MVP: Giancarlo Stanton

Next: Fresh off a championship run......it’s probably a good idea to take at least a day or two to enjoy it so going to try to, but as usual it is exciting to see what the offseason has in store. Goal is to not just blow right through the offseason to give some time to refresh before another season of games but we’ll see how that one goes.

                            The Amazins

                            Mets DFA Delgaudio, Promote Fernandez
                            July 24, 2024

The Alfonso Delgaudio experiment has come to an end, as the Mets designated him for assignment after a 5-4 loss to the Giants. Delgaudio gave up 3 ER in 1 inning of relief work today. The lefty gave up 5 ER in 2.2 IP over 3 appearances. He had a short leash to begin with, and the Mets have decided to move on. They are hopeful to find a trade partner, but aren't expecting anything of real value in return.

LHP Julio Fernandez will be called up to the bigs for the first time to fill the empty roster spot. The 21 year old has a 3.73 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 90 K and 28 BB over 94 IP in Syracuse so far this year. While the lefty barely cracks 90 with his fastball, he's got a nasty splitter and a slow-breaking slider. Fernandez uses movement and soft contact to be effective.

The Delgaudio experiment and this corresponding move are about roster evaluation as much as strengthening the roster. Fernandez will start tomorrow in the series finale against the Giants, giving the rest of the rotation an extra day of rest. This will give Fernandez two starts in the majors before Garrett returns from the IL, which happens to correspond with the trade deadline.

The Mets are eager to find out if Dave Monahan has become expendable. He's clearly the weakest link in the rotation, and management believes LHP Sean Machado can fill the shoes, if not be an upgrade, at the back end of the rotation. The problem this presents is that it leaves the Mets bullpen shorthanded. If Fernandez finds success as a starter, see the Mets move Monahan at the deadline and Machado into the rotation. Fernandez would slide into the bullpen as an innings eater, with a position in the rotation on the horizon. Of course, the price would have to be right for the Mets to trade a piece of their rotation during a season their contending for a championship.

                              Milwaukee Brewers 07/20/2021

It doesn't happen often but when it does it shocks the league. An inter-division trade has occured with the always rebuilding Pittsburgh Pirates (39-62) and the stuck in purgatory (55-42) Milwaukee Brewers.

32 yr old 2B Jedd Gyorko 79 overall
22 yr old CF Garrett Mitchell A potential 71 overall
24 yr old Dariel Gomez B potential 66 overall

will pack their bags for Pittsburgh while

28 yr old Josh Bell B potential 87 overall heads towards Wisconsin.

Milwaukee gets another bat with decent defense at first base to add to the lineup and will hope Bell is willing to resign at seasons end. Pittsburgh retool the farm system with a B potential and A potential player as well as an immediate upgrade with Jedd Gyorko taking over 2nd base duties from Kevin Newman. Pittsburgh will now have two young up and comers in the outfield ready to apply their trade next season in Mitchell and soon to break through, Travis Swaggerty. Rumour has it Pittsburgh is also looking to move Jameson Taillon during the rebuild, with Atlanta interested if they can find the pieces to make the move.

                                Milwaukee Brewers 07/31/2021
Brewers had a backlog at SS and The Diamondbacks had the same issue but in CF. With Semien at short for Milwaukee and fast rising Stephen Chen (19 yr A prospect 76 ovr) in CF for Arizona, the two teams decided to swap prospects. The Brewers have a need in center and The Diamondbacks have a need at short so it was a simple no brainer. Brice Turang is the number 49 overall prospect currently and Arizona's Thomas is 44 overall
Due to the slight disparity in prospect overall within baseball's top 50 prospects The Diamondbacks also acquired relief pitcher Angel Perdomo a 27 yr old C prospect.
                                Overall the trade looks like
SS Brice Turang 21 A potential 71 overall
RP Angel Perdomo C potential 63 overall

The Brewers weren't done making moves though as they moved Orlando Arcia to San Francisco for two pitching prospects in Seth Corry and Jimmie Robert's

SP Seth Corry 22 yrs A potential 67 overall
SP Jimmie Roberts 21 yrs B potential 67 overall

With these moves Milwaukee is hoping they have a few up and coming arms in the minors to groom for the future and a CF to take over for Lorenzo Cain possibly as soon as next year as he reaches the twilight of his career.
