Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

So I decided to start my fictional franchise tonight...and what an awesome opening spring training game I had against the Angels ( I am the Dodgers)

I thought the game was going to be an absolute blowout, as I hit a grand salami in the 2nd inning to take a 4-0 lead, I thought uh oh my sliders aren't loaded (using JoshC's set)....so I check and sure enough their loaded...lol

Well the Angels fought back to 4-2, while I was trying to evaluate my pitchers, and I can now safely say, my pen needs some serious work...lol

Long story short, my pen blew the lead and I ended up losing 6-5...the game played great and I just love the fictional world Bacon has created with these rosters.

Can't wait to see what happens next game.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

The budget management system for franchise is a total mess. I don't think it ever worked as they wanted it to with irl rosters so I wouldn't bother either.

Darvish has been struggling for me to say the least. But he finally broke through in his last start.

This isn't fictional right? I think it goes in the franchise progression page.

What does turning budgets off impact ?

This wouldn't eliminate free agency and contract offers and such would it ?

                I. Hate. Clayton Anderson. Lol
Lost 10-4 in game 3 of a 4 game opening series to Minnesota. My buddy Clay went 4-5, 2 HR, a trip and a dub.

Game 4 he might get "backed off the plate" lol

                  5 Things Early Season Recap

                  Padres: .234 BA / .384 SLG / .300 OBP / .991 FLD / 3.25 ERA
19-21 (3rd in NL West / 4.5 GB in Wild Card Race)

MLBn - May 11th, 2020: With 40 games done the season is well underway with nearly a quarter of the season finished. Here are 5 things to pay attention to as the season continues to develop.

A new hitting coach was it the right move?
While we'll never no if things would have improved with Patrick McClory as hitting coach bringing in Nigel Byrne seems to be having a positive effect. While this hasn't translated directly into more wins at the plates players seem more confident. Pitch recognition, power and contact have all improved. The Padres are still hovering around at or near the bottom in most offensive categories but there's no denying the effect Byrne has had on the team.

Kole Robertson The Best Pitcher With a Losing Record
Despite having a record of 2-3 in 8 starts Kole Robertson is having a great season. Robertson has pitched a complete game, came within 4 outs of bringing the Padres their first no-hitter in team history, leads the league in strikeouts 77, 3rd best ERA 1.16 and a 0.53 Whip. With a better performing offense Robertson could be undefeated and probably be in the conversation for the Cy Young award. Kole deserves better.

                  Perform Or Don't Play
Some Star players who thought they would be seeing regular game time find themselves not playing as much as many thought. If you told us that Willy Benavides (3B) would be platooning, Rolando Rodriguez (CF) would be watching most games from the dugout and Joel O'Malley (SP) would be struggling enough to get sent down to the minors we would have laughed. It's clear on field results matter more than paycheck or how highly regarded you maybe be. It's clear either you perform or you don't play is the mantra in San Diego.

No Major Shakeups Until the Off-Season
We've reported earlier that manager Willie Peterson probably wouldn't be manager when the 2021 season starts. Unless the team completely implodes Peterson will see out his contract. On the player front no major moves are expected during the season but expect a lot of new faces when Spring Training starts up. There are some big free agents hitting the market and some inflated contracts that need to be trimmed.

                  Young Guys Getting Noticed
Dylan Netzel (SS) - .299 BA, 3 HR, 5 SB, 2 Triples. The 26 yr old is the only player to play in every game this season.

Alec Thigpen (SP) - 2.63 ERA, 55 Strikeouts, 0.92 WHIP across 48 innings. The 25 yr old lefty has allowed just over 4 hits per game in his 8 starts.

No it does not eliminate free agency. It opens up trading because you don't have to worry about matching salaries.

                      Chicago Cubs(14-4) @ Washington Nationals(10-7)

                      Game 1: CHC-Kirby Pace(2-0 4.30) vs WAS-Rich Parker(1-0 5.48)

In the top of the 4th, Jaylen Pain hit a 2 run HR(1) to give the Cubs the lead 3-2. The Nats took the lead back with yet another HR in the 6th, This time from Alfonso Pena(2) a 3 run dinger and added another run in the 7th for a 6-3 lead. The Cubs would explode in the 8th with a 6 run inning, the big hit a Bryce Lewis bases clearing triple! Cubs go on to win 11-7

                      Game 2: CHC-Tyler Reynolds(3-0 2.76) vs WAS-Anthony Cook(3-0 0.95)

A Dario Suarez 2 run HR(2) and a Brandon Bowers 2 RBI(28) double helped the Cubs cruise to a 4-1 win

                      Game 3: CHC-Edwin Rodriguez(4-1 1.75) vs WAS-Ted McClendon(0-2 6.06)

The Nationals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the Bottom of the 3rd. Then in the top of the 6th, A Jack North 2 run double put the Cubs ahead for good. Cubs win 5-2 taking the first 3 games in the series.

                      Game 4: CHC-Tanner Wood(0-0 2.52) vs WAS-Kyle Redmann(2-0 3.10)

Game 4 saw Tanner Wood trying to get his first win of the season. The Cubs would give Wood a 3-0 lead thanks to a Bryce Lewis HR(2) in the 5th. The Cubs were in control until the 8th when the Nationals got to the Cubs pen and scored 3 to tie the game giving Tanner Wood another no Decision. The Nats would go on to win it in the 11th on a sac fly salvaging the last game in the series. Cubs lose 4-3

This just in, our Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Nationals and Orioles have made a trade.

                          Rockwell's Fountain of Youth

Sports Illustrated - May 14th - Woody Rockwell was rock solid as he picked up his first win of the season. In his second start of the season an inter-league match-up against the White Sox Rockwell performed well above anyone's expectations including his own. Not only was his performance on the mound solid allowing one hit, one run and 3 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Rockwell also contributed at the plate drawing a walk, were he moved on two second following another walk then scored on a single from second base. His next time up to bat he picked up a hit.

"A few week backs I told you media guys (that) I wanted to prove that signing me was a good move. I just want to continue performing at a high level for the remainder of the season and help the team win." - Woody Rockwell

At 42 many athletes are calling it quits on their careers. That's something Padres pitcher Woody Rockwell was contemplating prior to being signed in mid-April. Rockwell got back up to speed with San Diego's Triple-A team. In 2 starts with the El Paso Chihuahuas Rockwell went 1-1 posted an 1.3 era, recorded 10 strike outs through 10 innings.

In his two starts for the Padres the veteran pitcher has picked up a win and a no decision with a line of 7 strikeouts, 7 hits and a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings of work.

                          ==================================

I've never been more surprised with someone scoring than when Rockwell scored from second on a single! His speed is ZERO! ZERO SPEED! and he made it from second. I've had guys with 84 speed get thrown out trying to get them to do that.

I'm using Old Miami and it actually has my main logo in foul territory in front of the 1st and 3rd base dugouts
