Mayfield is a freak. He hits homeruns, steals bases and draws walks like nobody else. I hate facing him.

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
Finished the first season with my Aliens by blowing a 3-1 series lead in the ALCS to the A’s. Starting pitching fell apart for me and my top heavy lineup (after losing Relaford to injury) went cold.
The offseason was anti-climatic for me as I missed out on my two top targets: a SP and 2B. However I signed an 80 overall RP, and a 73 overall OF to be my 4th OF. I then took a 2B in the rule 5 draft who will be my 4th guy off the bench and provide some speed.
Otherwise my team is mostly the same as last season, just slightly deeper and more prepared for injuries.
After one season, my favorite player on this roster is 100% DJ Triplett. The dude can rake and is only getting better as he progresses.

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
Philadelphia Phillies(13-12) @ Chicago Cubs(20-5)
Another Tight Series
Game 1: PHI-Tom Shields(1-2) vs CHC-Edwin Rodriguez(4-1)
The Cubs had their ace on the mound and felt good going into the series but Philly had other plans. Tom Shields pitched well for the Phillies, bottom of the 4th Cubs loaded the bases with no outs and could only scratch one run across on a Fielder's Choice. This would come back to haunt the Cubs! Top of the 6th, Phillies break through in a big way against Rodriguez, Kyle Richardson hits a 2 run HR(3) and Colt Snow hits a solo HR(6) to go up 3-1 and chase Rodriguez from the game. Top 7, Leandro White solo HR(3), Top 9, Nathan Bird solo HR(1). Cubs would answer with 2 in the bottom of the 9th but fall short. Cubs lose 5-4
WP-Tom Shields(2-2) 5.58
LP- Edwin Rodriguez(4-2) 2.32
SV- Diego De Los Santos(1) 1.92
Game 2: PHI-Marty Melankon(2-2) vs CHC-Tanner Wood(0-0)
Could Tanner Wood possibly get his first decision of the season? Bot 1, after a Willy Gonzalez single and stolen base, Brandon Bowers drove him in with an RBI(34) single. Bot 2, Jack North cranks out a solo HR(5), Cubs up 2-0. Cubs add 2 in the bottom of the 3rd. Top 4, Fukamori Kodeyashi gets the Phillies on the board with a 2 run single and that would be all the scoring as the Cubs finally get Tanner Wood his first win of the season! Cubs win 4-2
WP-Tanner Wood(1-0) 2.19
LP-Marty Melankon(2-3) 5.55
SV-Mario Oquendo(11) 2.08
Game 3: PHI-Cody Hall(1-1) vs CHC-Casey Lockheart(3-2)
Rubber game of the series. Bot 2, Jorge Veras leads off with a double and extends his hitting streak to 17 games! Jack North up next and Hits a 2 run HR(6) to open up the scoring. Bot 3, Brandon Bowers hits HR #10 to give the Cubs a 3-0 lead, they would go on to win 4-1 and take the series! Cubs win 4-1

Ah yeah Bobby Perkins. Thats was his last name. Nate Painter and Michael Mayfield are like a renaissance of the Bash Brothers early in my first season. If Mayfield don't send out a big fly, Painter will.
Perkins, well got his avg up to a .120 something lol. Also got a sac fly rbi last game. But everyone near got in on the assault and battery of the Twins lol

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
I was usually just looking at overall supply and demand, and going with premium players at positions where there seemed to be fewer of them. As well as making sure I got a few solid starting pitchers.
Also wherever possible, going with younger players who will be around for a while.
And while I'm here, a general Show question... is there somewhere in game to re-sign your players who are upcoming free agents mid-season? Or is that something that takes place at a separate screen sometime after the season?Comment

Draft the best players available, mostly at premium positions (ie. more likely to take a solid SS, CF, C earlier than a LF/RF/1B/DH.. as there tend to be more of those types available.

I go with pitching early and often, because I seem to be able to find players that are lower rated, but still have decent hitting ratings, later in the draft. I can't do anything with a poor rated pitcher.JUUUUUUUST A BIT OUTSIDEComment

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
Last night figured I'd get in one more game for the night aaaaaaand ended up playing a 20-inning game losing 3-2. Burned through almost my entire bullpen. I mentally checked out after the 13th inning but the game just kept going and going and going. So now I have a tired team and no day off for another 10 games as we are in the middle of a 3 week run of games. I should have just saved the game and comeback to it later but I'm in it with the team if they are tired so am I LOL."Listen son, you only have enough runs when you’re showering after a win."Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
I’m having a great time with my A’s fantasy draft franchise; it’s been a breath of fresh air not having real-life players in the game and I’m enjoying the change and knowing next to nothing about the other teams in the league. So far I’m 14-8 and tied with the Angels for first in the AL West. I started the season hot but lost 4 in a row against the Yankees and Red Sox before righting the ship against the Mariners the last three games.
Some early observations and notes:
-- Hit for the cycle with Bryce Lewis (97 speed, 98 contact v. righties!)
-- Vince Cartwright is averaging 11 Ks per game and ERA is under 2 even though the Yanks roughed him up his last outing
-- Dale Richards, Frank Jacobs and LeAndro White have been carrying my offense (along with Lewis); Jacobs started the season on a 15-game hitting streak and Richards leads the AL in HRs and doubles
-- When I drafted OF Reggie Kellogg in the 14th round I was wondering why he lasted so long even with the great stats – turns out it’s probably because he’s making $20 million per year for the next six years and I just figured that out! I’ve tried to trade him but no takers and even offering a swap of bad contracts, no one is biting. Even after putting him on the trade block, he’s been doing pretty well
-- My weak spots are my bullpen (except for closer Brent Stevens and setup guy Lewis Matthews), No. 4 & 5 starters (Terrell Woodyard and Max McLain have underperformed), and second base (starter Allen Foster is on the IL and Brad Sawyer and Keith Cook haven’t done anything to pick up the slack)
-- Guys who I can’t seem to get out: Boomer Moore, Howard Thompkins, Flash Miller, and Calvin ParksComment

I changed one random player to the first name of my late dog and my last name, since there was not a player with it in the roster. That's the only adjustment I made.Comment
