For a lot of reasons. I am not hyped at all reading the notes on that blog. Not at all. Sounds like we are players of the past. This is all gearing up for online competitive etc etc etc. It is incredibly difficult to code a game for three different modes (ask Madden how that has gone).

Really...might be the end of an era for me and this series.

And that is ok. MLB 20 does everything I want. I have a 5 year Yankee chise going that I like you have played every single pitch, inning and game. I am so invested in it. I have so much joy from it.

I got it all with MLB 20. And it plays amazing on the PS5 from everything I heard. So it’s all good.
As far as these new play styles go...I'll say this, I have WAY more faith that SDS can pull it off well than EA did on Madden. They already have separate tuning for online modes in DD. With baseball games being far less dependent on coherent AI than other sports games; I think there is a greater ability to pull this off. Heck...I could probably put together slider sets on 20 to mimic these types of play styles; it's all about minimizing "randomness" for competitive...and that wouldn't be all that hard to do.

Nonetheless, I'm glad to see SDS taking a proactive approach. As they pull in the more online-centric XBox crowd (yes, I am generalizing), this was going to be a necessity. My biggest fear was that they were going to begin making concessions to keep the online guys happy (and concessions make no one happy). In theory, separate gameplay styles SHOULD keep this from being an issue.

    Obviously, execution will be key....

This is a REALLY important question. I think Franchise/RTTS saves are nearly a foregone conclusion. But losing the ability to import rosters would be a MASSIVE blow. At the very least, I'm hoping SDS can do some stuff in the vault from a roster perspective....like they do typically for logos and so on.

As for Xbox, the game has never been on Xbox so I'm not sure what you would carryover and I wouldn't expect the team to research how to transfer a save from Playstation hardware to Xbox hardware.

It's been mentioned a few times by the devs that the reason certain things can't be added to franchise was due to them using "legacy" code was the term I believe they used. And the understanding from myself, and I'm guessing others, is that at some point to get in community requests they would have to re-write that legacy code which in turn meant a distinct possibility that carryover saves wouldn't work for that one year.
I'm all for being optimistic, despite SDS not really giving franchise players any reason to be lately, but the idea that they've completely revamped franchise mode in the same year they've had to make the leap to 3 new platforms and deal with COVID, seems like a step too far tbh.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but this really doesn't seem like the year they'd spend huge amounts of time renovating a mode they don't particularly care about. The move to Xbox is about getting more DD micro-transaction money, so I would be surprised if that wasn't there number 1 priority.

The PS5 allows to import the 20 roster (if you are playing 20 on the PS5), correct? I’ve invested a huge amount of time keeping a roster updated, importing great CAPS to use off the vault, etc. Was anticipating using this in ‘21, but if that’s not possible I can just load it into the PS5 and continue to use ‘20. Correct?

I'd guess importing your Rtts player is replacing the CAP in DD. Can't see what other modes you could really import them into? Presumably linking Rtts to DD would open up more microtransaction potential and offering DD rewards for playing Rtts, like they did with MtO

If they came out and said that they created a "revamped" mode and it's not all that different; it would be a massively idiotic move (and horrible look) for the studio. I definitely expect it to be "Different"....

Here's where I sit on the fence. "Revamped" does not mean "better" and that's going to be in the eyes of the beholder. Frankly, I read the "wish lists" here every year and roll my eyes and laugh at 99.9% of the "asks" by the OS community (folks that are supposedly "die hard franchise guys"). It's going to come down, as always, to whether the mode (and game in general) meets your own personal needs.

At this juncture, I'm neither positive nor negative about 21. I'm just waiting to see what's going on here. I'm just thankful that the franchise experience on 20 is so amazing (to me)....I'll always have that to fall back on.

Oh I'm sure it will.. just another sport removing strategy from the game to inflate offense for the casual fan. It's terrible. But it is what it is.

Casual/simulation/Stick jockey sounds more like a rebranding of the different hitting/pitching controls than a genuine new thing to me. Simulation being directional/meter, stick jockey being zone/analogue. More just a way of categorizing control methods for online competitive play as opposed to a new way to play the game?

I dont mind the April release date. I like it that it'll start along w/ the real season.

I will get it for xbox one. I no longer need to upgrade to PS4/XBX now unless next gen blows everyone away for MLB 21.

So for the PS4 version - are they saying all the fictional rosters/created players that carried over on PS4 won't carry over for 21? Or just won't carry over on PS5?

I never said revamped, just rewriting old code to add in things the community has wanted. And maybe all those things don’t happen this year but they have to start with rewriting the code to be able to move forward.

I’m not sitting here believing that everything the community wants is happening in ‘21 but I believe it’s the start and if suspending carryover saves for a year is needed then I’m all for it despite my personal thoughts of it being a bummer

I've been wanting to retire my Braves franchise for awhile now, but it still bites that carry-over is going away, even if but only for a year. I just couldn't bear to bury my franchise anymore than I could have been able to put Old Yeller down. but I can still acknowledge it needed to happen. one good thing is we learned before release, unlike several years ago when the Studio killed Season Mode and we didn't hear boo till after it was already been sold
