Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20

SHORTER SEASONS MAYBE COMING. Last summer people were asking if they could make an update for the covid season to have less games in franchise and they said they couldn't because it would ruin Y2Y saves. There's a good chance were finally getting something similar to custom season lengths in franchise [emoji1696]

On the Xbox Store it says crossplatform gameplay so on xbox you can play against ps4 and ps5 players, hope this also means crossplatform roster, player and logo sharing. Since ai dont have a PS5 yet I plan on getting it on the Xbox Series X this year so that would be awesome

And depending on how this all shakes out......MLB 20 may very well end up being my game on the PS5 whenever I come around to going next gen.

I am not feeling great about 3 different modes of play ala Madden (Simulation, Arcade, Competitive) I think it stinks on Madden and is poorly executed and a mess.

        I am not optimistic.

Times are a changing for The Show. And not in ways I wanted to hear.

The PS3 and 4 glory years are looking more and more like exactly that.

Why am I so pessimistic? Because I am an old school sports gamer and the core base of The Show was always built on a simulation core and now....I am seeing the game going down the “we need to make it more accessible big time since we are cross platform now”. That usually does not bode well for those of us who love the degree of difficulty the game has and how close it resembles the grind of playing 162 games. This is going towards instant gratification players, online competitive and the like.

This is marking the end of an era for this franchise.

MLB 20 and all my carryovers are my priority. Too many incredible rosters to just give up like that.

Am I speculating? Yeah I am. Could this revamped franchise be awesome? Yeah. But I am simply pessimistic it was not made into what people really want in these parts (Operation Sports).

        Hope I am proven wrong.
Appreciate all your slider work but bro you have got to relax. Lol the sky is always falling for you

We’ve literally gotten like a couple paragraphs of generic details of the game and you declare it “dead on arrival” already lmao

I actually see it as what matters for input.
Simulation is highly favoring ratings and sim engine.

Stick jockey for the h2h crowd that wants a perfect contact to be hit everytime.

Casual as a very simplistic pick up and go. Mostly automated.

First off, it is my opinion. This is a forum where we state opinions.

Secondly....yeah 21 on the PS4 is DOA for me. Why? I want to keep playing my now 5 year Yankees franchise which I have poured over 1000 hours of playing time into and every minute has been joy.

I can’t move that file to 21 even on the PS4

                So yeah dead on arrival.

Sky is not falling. But in my opinion and based on the absolute undeniable trend of console sports games becoming focused heavily on micro transactions (card modes). I have a highly pessimistic view about the direction of the franchise for the first time ever.

And I am clearly one of the most optimistic members on this forum. I do not know where your getting “the sky is always falling with you”.

In fact I champion getting the most out your sports games despite all the venom on this forum about so called “sim” play.

But the original point for me is we all have opinions. In my opinion The Show 21 is an easy hard pass knowing I can’t continue my franchise which is more important to me than a new roster, easier more accessible modes, and a revamped franchise mode.

Franchise mode gets so much flack here and quite frankly it has been great for me and a lot of other Show diehards.

I really hope 21 is great. I said in my post I hope I am wrong.

The sky is not falling. But I simply may be moving on if the series goes backwards.

And there is a decent shot it could considering the move to a new system, cross platform and this awful pandemic we have been in.

Hopefully in a couple of cycles I can resume buying this on a yearly basis.

Yeah my opinion. I am not optimistic about this years game based on the “circumstances” we are currently dealing with.

some of the highest praise for the Show has come from A&S. you know your doing it right when you're Chicken Little to one crowd and a fanboy to another. but you're absolutely dead on about the slider work. I'm going to miss it very much for 21. maybe it's time the OS family procured him a copy just for him to tinker with sliders for us while his main squeeze remains 20.

just a thought, my opinion and 2 pesos

Losing carry over saves for next year sucks. But it gives SDS two dev cycles to upgrade franchise mode. If the Show 22 is released with many of the features we have been begging for for years and carry over saves it will all be worth it.

I'm willing to bet the franchise carryover saves being lost are more the result of cross platform compatibility.

When they invested in y2y we were told it took all resources and a complete year of programming.

With starting new with Xbox and ps5 it probably was too difficult and time consuming.

I am all for year to year saves as long as we do not ever lose innovation. If progress stops, which for whatever reason it did on franchise mode, then I am OK losing it. I feel for the people that invest so much time carrying over. Same thing happened to season mode and online crowd.

I get bored after 2 seasons because all the flaws in the management engine and I lose interest. I'm hoping some legacy bugs are fixed.

Can't believe it took me til now to read the blog, but I'm excited for Wednesday (Feb 3rd) to read about the collector edition.

Really really really really hoping its the Jackie Robinson version thats been floating around the internet.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
