Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20

Looks like we will have to wait until March until they reveal anything about the game. Thank you vey much Coronavirus

And I am not shocked at all that the PS5 version will be $10 more then the PS4 version. But I really hope they are charging $10 more because the PS5 version will be something "EXTRA SPECIAL" and not just because they can.

Just saying year after year I see so many say MLB The Show looks the same for good reason. But I really hope that trend finally stops with PS5!

I just really want that tug to the floor feeling when my eyes see MLB The Show 21 PS5 version for the first time

Personally I'd love to see them figure out a way to tweak the zone/analog mechanics to better suit a sim-style. Those mechanics definitely "feel" the most like hitting (I use zone w/ analog input, which is hard but I do enjoy it) and pitching. I think zone hitting is pretty solid in that regard as the PCI changes based on contact and vision ratings, but analog pitching is a bit too easy. I'd like to see smaller "sweet spots" for guys with poor control and/or BB/9, while still being able to have a little control over where the pitch goes (i.e. missing over the plate is your fault as opposed to the computer)

I went back and looked at alot of the old covers from the last 10 years and it looks like they always remove logos from the batting gloves, so I think we are safe there.

I understand why some on here dont like the idea of carry over saves but how many people who play this game really care about that? Probably 1 or 2 percent of the entire user base? so probably not a big priority for SDS. Hopefully they bring it back in 22 to carry over saves from 21.

I don't think someone should write off 21 just yet based on one snippet of data. Let's wait to see what else they reveal. Maybe some new modes, or some new way they will be doing things different than last gen.

personally im pretty stoked about 21 and the potential it has to offer. Already it being on Xbox and cross platform seals the deal for me. And the upcoming information will be topping on the cake.

The decision may very well have boiled-down to two options:

            1. Do nothing/very little with franchise mode but keep carryovers.
            2. Overhaul franchise but you have to do away with carryovers for a year.

What if the "new franchise" includes expanded rosters (beyond 90)? The roster size alone may have been enough to necessitate killing-off carryovers for a year - roster expansion will greatly alter every dynamic in the game...carryover saves likely would have been massively "busted". Once that new base is in-place in MLBTS21, it would (in theory) be able to continue in 22 and any franchises from 21 could be moved forward from that point.

If carryovers are gone to never return, then yes, it's bad. I just don't think this will be the case - I don't see the proverbial "writing on the wall" here. SDS even commented in the blog that they understand the popularity of this feature.

I'm going to say this though...I think it would strongly behoove SDS to be up front in their pre-launch materials/streams if they intend for carryovers to return for '22. It might be questionable from a business perspective to do this; but if they want to be a customer-driven service, then I think it would be a classy thing to do.

Agree 100% with Josh in that I don’t see anything written that suggests carryovers are a thing of the past.

And agree that expanding rosters would essentially bust carryovers because besides the rosters being expanded and logic rewritten, the financial aspect of franchise needs to be rewritten as well to match the roster expansion.

I truly believe you will see carryovers return and I really think they return in ‘22 to accept ‘21 carryovers

Easy to say if you're not heavily invested in a long-term franchise like many here are. To some folks, this news is almost as bad as them outright removing franchise mode altogether. The entire universe they have spent 100s (if not 1000s) of hours cultivating won't move forward.

I'm nowhere near that point in terms of duration, but I totally get it. I have zero issue with anyone who says, "Nope...that seals it for me...".

In terms of numbers, is the audience for carryover franchises huge? No, probably not. BUT...it also sounds like RTTS may also be impacted by this...and that is a MASSIVE audience (as it has been said repeatedly that it is the most popular mode in the game).

For my personal purposes, I want to understand what they did, why they did it and proceed from there.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Arrives on April 20

If the improvements are clearly evident in franchise mode and the gameplay is the same stellar simulation I have come to adore then MLB 22 on the PS5 will be awesome.

Bringing back carry over saves though is something I do not think is some magical switch they will flip. It may never come back. Time will tell. They also knew how much people loved Season Mode, Online Franchise etc etc.

I knew year to year would have to be removed for them to do anything in terms of revamping franchise mode.

It just made this years version an easy hard pass for me because I am in the 1-2% some poster claimed that cared about Y2Y saves. My franchise I started on 17 is that special to me.

So it was easy to decide not to purchase 21.

Hoping for the best. Simple as that. This is my favorite game period. So I really want it to be amazing.

Time will tell what direction they are going in.

Anyone surprised at no Switch version announcement? I am, a little. The thing still prints money, but maybe they're waiting for the upgraded one that might be coming towards the end of this year?

It would probably have to be scaled down dramatically to be playable on the current Switch.

Since they are allegedly doing that sim/casual/arcade gameplay split maybe they'll add the baseball equivalent of Madden's The Yard and call it:

The Lot! Introducing our new over the top baseball mode. We've got bat flips, bright colors, battle royale and players ignoring all the unwritten rules of baseball. Bringing the action to the parking and sandlots all over the world where baseball belongs. Level up your avatar and take on today's biggest stars like Miley Cyrus, SpongeBob and DJ Khaled.

Well this completely pisses me off. I won't be buying the game this year I was going to start my franchise with the rosters I have worked on now and continue it on to the new game. won't be happening now I am not waiting till May (by the time rosters are done) to play the game. watch I bet 30 team control has been taken out as well. I am not buying the game this year this killed it now. THis will also screw roster makers in using the export player trick

It mean OSFM rosters will all have to be made from scratch don't expect rosters till June in that case or even July
