Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just started a Detroit Tigers Franchise ... but with a bit of a difference.

created an ace based off 24 yr old Tim Lincemum, found some old attributes online where he rates out as a 93 pitcher & with a C-rated potential, he should throw flames for a few seasons before flaming out entirely.

Resurrected two careers : 1/RF Chris Davis career by giving him his 2016 stats. basically he won't hit much, but it'll go yard when he does. 2/SP Jake Arrieta 79 rated pitcher with not much velocity, pitches to contact and can eat up innings with 91 stamina from the number 4 pitcher slot.

Which is crazy really, bcos they just announced their retirements on the exact same day, four days after i started my franchise. lol

Traded prospects Matt Manning, Zack Short, Akil Baddoo & a minor league B rated CF for SS -Gleybar Torres, CP -Genesis Cabrera and CF Corbin Carroll & picked up Catcher Matt Wolters from FA

    Lineup

    C. Carroll
    W. Castro
    G. Torres
    C. Davis
    J. Candelairo
    J. Schoop
    M. Cabrerra
    V. Reyes
    R. Grossman
    M. Wolters/ Haase

    Lincecum
    Boyd
    Mize
    Arrieta
    Skubal

    Soto
    Cabrera
    Cisnero
    Funkhouser

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

Detroit went 6-3 over their first two series with Cleveland and the Twins, sweeping the twins and having 6 hard fought games with the Indians winning 3 and losing 3 all by two runs or less (3 extra innings games).

The Tigers with a 0.5 game lead sit atop the central coming into a series in Houston against the West division leading astros 7-2.

Both teams using their 5th starters got knocked around throwing lots of pitches through the first four innings.

With 10 hits but only three runs to show for it, Detroit chased Luis Garcia after 3.2 innings.

Skubal wasn't fairing much better throwing 90 pitches over 4 innings but amazingly, only conceding one run over 3 hits. Just many long at bats and foul balls.

With both teams going deep into their pens, the Astros evened the game up in the 7th with a two run long ball from Yordan Alverez off Tyler Alexander.

at the top of the 8th, a lead off walk, a single and HBP loaded the bases with 1 out. Matt Wolters hit a deep sacrifice fly to the warning track for the Tigers to go up 4-3.

Then in the 8th, with two out and down to their last strike, the astros jumped all over the flame throwing Set up reliever Genesis Cabrera, with a hard ground single to bregmann starting the route capped off by a three run shot to Yordan Alverez for his 5th RBI of the game and a 6-4 houston lead.

The Stro's pushed out their closer Ryan Pressley who easily took care of number 9 hitter Matt Wolters with a 4-pitch SO.

To the top of the order with one out where on his last strike Corbin Carroll blooped a a ball over 1st base for a single. Harold Castro then had an epic 11 ball at bat, finally drawing a walk on a high and wide slider. Gleybar Torres cracked a hard line drive to left field on the first pitch he saw to load the bases for Chris Davis.

Davis swung hard on the first pitch he saw a low and away fastball, and fouled it. Next pitch was about the width of the ball wide of the outside plate, but the ump called it a strike. Davis then fouled off pitches 3 and four before a low ball in the dirt was called for a ball, and a high ball up at the eyes called for the same.

Full count, loaded bases, the power bat of Chris Davis at the plate. He kept his eyes down low in the zone over the middle of the plate for something he could turn on.

In his 23rd pitch of the inning Pressley threw a change up right where Davis was waiting, and he launched the ball yard for a 423ft shot up high into the left field 2nd tier stand for an 8-6 Tigers lead. The grand slam (my first ever in any MLB show series haha) was also Davis' 300th homerun.

This set the stage for Gregory Soto to come on and try and earn his 4th save of the young season against the top of the Houston order.

He gave up a hard base hit to Yuriel before striking out Alverez on 4 pitches to give Detroit the 1st game of the series.

Just an epic back n forth game against a lineup that can hurt you from 1 to 8. It was playoff baseball intensity in just the 3rd week of the season lol

Next game sees the teams aces, Verlander Vs Lincecum in the pivotal middle game of the series.

              Congrats!

Did you have any audio issues with the HRD? I was going to play mine since Acuña and Freeman were in it, but the sound dropped out every time it started.

One week to the trade deadline and two more moves were made. Surprisingly, neither the Braves nor the Red Sox were involved in either move.

The Angels picked up outfielder Anthony Santander from the Orioles for a minor-league relief pitcher. Santander will start in right field. Dexter Fowler goes to the bench and Jon Jay was optioned to Triple-A.

The Astros acquired first baseman Garrett Cooper from the Marlins for reliever Bryan Abreu. Cooper had 14 home runs for the Marlins. He'll take over as the everyday first baseman for Houston.

Cardinals get swept by Giants to start 2nd half

The Cardinals (55-39) were swept by the Giants over the weekend in San Francisco to start the 2nd half of the season.

The Cardinals bats were non-existent in 2 of the 3 games only scoring 1 run in each of those. On Saturday, the Cards put up 4, but the Giants bested them by one, 5-4.

After sweeping the Pirates to take momentum into the break, they quickly lost it coming out as they trail the Brewers by 2 1/2 games in the Central and the Mets/Braves by 1 1/2 in the wildcard.

The Cards will look to bounce back as they travel across country for a 4 game series with the Pirates in Pittsburgh starting Monday night. Thanks schedule makers.

Trades over the past day or so

The trade deadline is just a few days away and here are a few trades that have taken place this final week:

                      Angels acquire:

                      SS Willy Adames

The Angels are in a dog fight with the Astros for the AL West and help in the middle of the infield was needed. The Angels have been using a combination of players to man the 2B/SS positions, but now they can limited that rotation to just one position with the addition of Adames. Adames is another new face to the Angels for 2022 (Buster Posey, Jorge Soler, J.D. Martinez, & Teoscar Hernandez) that expects to give the Halos a strong push towards October baseball.

                      Rays acquire:

                      SP Jose Suarez

The Rays are in the position of re-tooling their roster, especially their pitching staff/rotation. Suarez is 22 years old with a high ceiling and was dominant in AAA while with Houston.

                      Astros acquire:

                      RP Nick Anderson

The Astros have a dominant rotation but their bullpen was missing a piece or two, and the acquisition of Anderson should help with fulfilling those missing pieces. Anderson was clearly the best reliever in the Rays bullpen this year and likely the best reliever "available" at the trade deadline.

                      Rays acquire:

                      SS Jeremy Pena
                      RF Jordan Brewer
                      RP Bryan Abreu

Top end prospects that will figure into the rebuilding plans of the Rays.

                      Red Sox acquire:

                      C Reese McGuire

A bit of a head scratcher. The Red Sox clearly need help behind the plate, but not sure McGuire is the answer. He was ok at best in Toronto this year as a battery mate to Danny Jansen. Maybe a new home will spark his bat.

                      Blue Jays acquire:

                      SP Kumar Rocker

Really surprised the Red Sox let Rocker go. He was thought to be part of the reloading for the Red Sox, but instead now will be part of the re-tooling of the Blue Jays.

Really think the Red Sox overpaid and panicked and made this deal.

That's it thus far as we're a few days away from the deadline. I'm sure more trades will pop up in the coming days.

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

We've hit the 100-game mark of the 2021 season in my Braves dynasty.

We're 17-3 in July after a four-game sweep of the Phillies in Philadelphia. At 69-31, we have the best record in MLB and have opened up a 10.5 game lead over the Mets in the NL East. With the cushion and the recent additions of Adam Duvall and Josh Harrison, manager Brian Snitker has given more playing time to to the bench to keep the starters fresh. The depth has paid off.

An example: In Sunday's series finale in Philadelphia it was Ehire Adrianza, starting for Dansby Swanson, who spark plugged the Braves' rally from three runs down to a 6-5 win. Adrianza, who entered the game hitting .196 on the season, went 3-for-4. In the sixth, he laced a double down the right-field line to bringing the tying run. In the eighth, he smashed a single up the middle to drive home what turned out to be the game-winning run.

Diego Castillo has been utterly dominant since coming over from the Rays in a trade. He has yet to allow a baserunner in four appearances. And after a rough debut, Felix Pena hasn't allowed a run. In Sunday's win, Pena struck out the side in his only inning of work.

The Braves now head to New York for another four-game series. For the Mets, it's a chance to get back into the NL East race. For the Braves, it's a chance to start putting the final nail in for another division title.

Cardinals acquire LHP Daniel Norris from Tigers

The Cardinals have acquired 28 year LHP Daniel Norris from the Tigers in exchange for two prospects.

The Cardinals had already acquired catcher Victor Caratini from the Padres a few weeks ago, but as the deadline looms (3 days) they decided to address their bullpen concerns, particularly adding another strong left handed option as both Tyler Webb and Genesis Cabrera have had their struggles lately.

The Cards sent a pair of 19 year old prospects back to the Tigers in the deal, SP Fernando Huerta and 2B Jeremy Rivas. Both were 2020 draft picks with high ceilings. Rivas hasn't topped Single A yet, but Huerta has appeared at the AA level for the Cards this year starting 2 games throwing 11 innings in those two starts allowing 3 runs total with 6 strikeouts.

The Cardinals will continue to scan the trade block and see who else becomes available, but thus far they have addressed two needs in backup catcher and bullpen depth. Pitching is always needed and the Cardinals could be looking to address the outfield with Starling Marte not due back until late August and production being down in centerfield to the point that Mike Schildt has at times started Tommy Edman in center with Matt Carpenter starting at 2nd base.

Cardinals sweep Pirates in 4 game series

The Cardinals (59-39) swept the Pirates in a 4 game series at PNC Park and are 2 games back of the Brewers, but have taken the top wildcard spot by 1/2 game over the Braves.

The Cardinals bounced back after getting swept by the Giants to start the 2nd half of the season, by shutting down the Pirates bats (they are last in the league in just about every offensive category), and being hot with their own bats.

Nolan Arenado extended his hitting streak to 8 games during the series and Yadier Molina found his swing going 6 for 13 with 2 homeruns, a double and 8 RBI's during the series.

Levi Prater pitched his first complete game and first complete game shutout with a 3 hit, 4 strikeout performance Wednesday night.

The Cardinals will head home for the weekend and welcome the Giants who swept them just last weekend. This series will mark the end of July and of course the trade deadline where things are active, including for the Cardinals.

Cardinals re-acquire Harrison Bader from the Nationals

Baseball is a funny game on the field, and off of it apparently.

Nearly one year after the Cardinals sent Harrison Bader to the Nationals for Max Scherzer, the Cardinals are re-acquiring the 28 year old back from the Nationals. And to boot, the Cardinals are re-acquiring LHP Evan Kruzinski whom was also part of the Scherzer deal.

In exchange the Cardinals are sending 30 year old RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon, 24 year old Top 100 prospect Jose Azocar, and 26 year old IF C.J. Chatham.

Bader will join the Cardinals in St.Louis this weekend as they welcome the Giants. Kruzinski will report to Memphis.

                                Baseball is a funny game.
