Braves offensively have become a juggernaut. Leading MLB in runs and have over 50 more than the 2nd team. Austin Riley and Freddie Freeman are duking it out for MVP, Pham has been a huge addition and Acuna, Albies etc are all doing their normal. They will be hard to catch

We have had some underperformance but are fighting. Alonso has been great, Lindor has had a strong bounce back season, Chris Taylor has been a solid if not spectacular addition. JD Davis has also bounced back.

Besides them, we have a lot of guys struggling. Baez has been horrible, Conforto has been irrelevant and McNeil has been barely playable. McCann is more of the same, low average with some pop. Nimmo was playing great again but went down with a torn calf, now out 2 months.

Pitching wise, deGrom as been fantastic, leading the CY Young Candidacy and is an MVP candidate. Cookie Carrasco has also been great, a very solid #2. Stroman and Walker have been up and down, and are struggling of late.

The BP has been a mixed bag, with Fairbanks and Diaz being the 2 main catalysts.

We will need to add some offense, as we are sitting 18th in the MLB in runs, which will once again be the focus of the deadline plans along with a BP arm or 2.

A few notable trades around the league:
    • Salvador Perez to SD for Robert Hassell and Ben Ruta
    • Zack Greinke to BAL for Jordan Westburg
    • Seth Brown to BOX for Jarren Duran
    • Jose Berrios to OAK for Sean Manaea, Thairo Estrada and Danny Santana
    • John Means to Tor for Adam Kloffenstein and Brian Navaretto

We will see come the rest of July what happens, will update then

Man what a comeback! I ended up standing pat at the deadline and come Sept, was 7 games out.

Ended up sweeping the Braves and winning a one game playoff for the NL East division crown! It was amazing. Javy, Conforto and JD got insanely hot for me down the stretch.

deGrom ended up winning MVP and Cy Young, having a 22-3 record with a 1.81 ERA and 244 K's .He was amazing, winning me multiple big games down the stretch He also won a silver slugger.

Other members of the team to win awards:
    Lindor - GG at SS
    McCann - GG at C
    Conforto - GG in OF

I ended up losing McNeil for the season at the end of August to a broken hand. So my lineup going into the playoff is the one I ended up rocking the entire end of season

    Nimmo - 418 AB/14 HR/52 RBIs/.285avg/.376 OBP
    Lindor - 557 AB/25 HR/70 RBIs/.259/357 OBP
    Davis - 531 AB/23 HR/79 RBIs/232/.316
    Alonso -589 AB/34 HR/94 RBIs/.244/.343 OBP
    Taylor - 541 AB/23 HR/84 RBIs/.268/.366
    Javy -571 AB/25 HR/77 RBI/.238/.291 OBP
    Confoto - 482 AB/16 HR/61 RBI/.216/.314
    McCann - 451 AB/22 HR/74 RBI/.233/.311 OBP

    Bench
    Miguel Rojas - 184/.245/5 homers/20 RBI
    Guillorme -140/.250/2 homers/11 rbi
    Pillar - 132 AB/3 homers/15 RBI
    Drury (replaced McNeil post injury) - 60 / 1 /5 rbi
    Nido - 84 /.274/1 homer/13 rbi

    In terms of Pitching:
    deGrom
    Carrasco 11-9, 2.99 ERA, 122 Ks,159.2 IP
    Stroman 8-14, 4.06 ERA,106 Ks, 175 IP
    Walker 13-9, 4.11 ERA, 140 Ks, 190.1 IP
    Peterson 9-8, 3.67 ERA, 126 Ks, 154.1 IP

    Diaz 51 Saves, 2.98 ERA, 61 Ks

LAD (won 116 games) vs winner of SF/ATL WC

    AL:

    CWS vs HOU

NYY (103 wins) vs winner of Oak/Tor

Re: MLB The Show 21 Franchise Discussion Thread

43 games into the season with the Braves (woohoo, I finally didn't restart), and it's been a weird one. Just got swept at home by the Mets, who are without Lindor, Smith, and Conforto (and Nimmo got injured in game 1). After taking 2 out of 3 from a tough Brewers team. Dropped me down to 21-22, 9 1/2 games behind the now 30-12 Mets. Bullpen let me down; game was tied in the 8th in all 3 games, but Luke Jackson, Will Smith, and AJ Minter all took losses.

Austin Riley (.921 ops) and Freddie Freeman (.918) have been awesome. Recently moved Riley into the leadoff spot with him leading the league in hitting, and he hit home runs in back to back games. Ozzie Albies has been really good too; the OBP is low, but he's at 12 hr and 29 RBI already. He's actually hitting better left handed (.279 with 9 hr) than right handed. Pederson have hit well too. They've got 17 hr between them. Swanson started bad, but has really picked it up in May.

Acuña has had a tough time, though. Only hitting .182 with him with 7 hr. But he's still better than Duvall, who is hitting .142 with 2 hr. D'Arnaud has hit pretty poorly too.

My Bullpen hasn't been great. Rodriguez, Martin, Newcomb, and (despite the loss to the Mets) Smith have all mostly been good. But the rest have been inconsistent, especially Jackson. Anderson, Ynoa, and Morton are all excellent in the rotation. Soroka has had some trouble with a 4.20 era now. Toussaint has been fine at the back end with a 4.57 era as a starter, but Max Fried is only a couple weeks away from returning after only starting 2 games so far, and Toussaint will likely go to the bullpen.

The Mets being so good is surprising. The other division leaders are pretty much what you'd expect: Brewers, Giants, Red Sox, White Sox, and Astros. The other big surprise is the Twins actually being good.

Hopefully I can turn it around with Acuña.

Cardinals swept by Mets now a 1 game behind Brewers

The Cardinals (87-61) were swept by the Mets in New York and now find themselves a game behind the Brewers for the NL Central and 2 1/2 games out of the wildcard.

Pitching was bad, hitting was worse, and fielding looked like Little League (7 errors in 3 games). Nothing about this series was good except for the fact that it was only 3 games and it eventually ended.

Not only were the Cards knocked around on the field, but they got banged up to. Victor Caratini (leg) and Paul DeJong (arm) are both day to day after getting hurt during the series.

The Cardinals will travel to Cincinnati for a 3 game weekend series with the Reds. Hopefully they can bounce back as the Cards have lost 5 of their last 6.

        Remaining Schedule:

        3 @ CIN
        2 vs KC
        3 vs PIT
        3 @ MIL
        3 @ PIT

I'm still in August, but they did fix it where a player just has to be on the 40-man roster on Sept. 1 to be playoff eligible, right? They no longer have to be on the 26-man?

Cardinals sweep the Reds take 1/2 game lead in NL Central

The Cardinals (90-61) swept their rival Reds in Cincinnati to bounce back from the fiasco in New York to now lead the NL Central by a 1/2 game over the Brewers.

The Cardinals bats woke up in Cincy scoring 18 runs over the 3 games including 7 homeruns. Pitching was better as was the defense and the Cards have found their groove again as they continue to battle for a spot in the postseason.

Nolan Arenado hit homerun number 297 of his career in Cincinnati and is 3 away from the 300 club, making him the 2nd Cardinal this year (Paul Goldschmidt) to reach this milestone.

The Cards are off on Monday as they travel back home for their finale homestand of the regular season. The Cards will play a quick 2 game series with the Royals before the Pirates come to St.Louis for the final time in 2022 next weekend.

            Remaining Schedule:

            2 vs KC
            3 vs PIT
            3 @ MIL
            3 @ PIT

Angels first to clinch spot on postseason

The Los Angeles Angels are the first team to punch their ticket to the postseason as they have secured at least a wildcard spot. The Angels currently lead the AL West by 5 games over the Astros.

I believe tbarnes mentioned in his thread earlier this year that this had been fixed.

I'm in October (2022 season ends on Oct 9th) and I looked at my roster and all 40 man roster players show they are PS (Postseason) Eligible.

Granted they have to have been on your 40 man roster prior to September 1st to be postseason eligible.

Cardinals take both games from Royals, extend lead

The Cardinals (92-61) took both games of the mini 2 game series against the Royals, and have extended their lead in the NL Central to 2 1/2 games over the Brewers, thanks to the help of the Cubs.

The Cardinals played well again in this two game series, winning the opener fairly easily, but Wednesday, it took a Tyler O'Neill walkoff in the 9th to secure the 4-2 victory over the Royals.

The Cardinals will remain home after an off day Thursday as they welcome the Pirates to Busch Stadium this weekend for a 3 game series, the final regular season series at Busch Stadium this year.

Cardinals sweep Pirates extend divisional lead

The Cardinals (95-61) swept the Pirates over the weekend to extend their divisional lead to 4 games over the Brewers thanks to the help of the Mets.

The sweep extends the Cardinals current winning streak to 8 games as they look to close out the regular season on a strong note and punch their ticket to the postseason.

The Cardinals will be off on Monday as they travel to Milwaukee for a big 3 game series with the Brewers where the Cards could clinch the NL Central Division title.

Cardinals clinch National League Central Division

After taking the first two games of the series against the Brewers in Milwaukee, the Cardinals have won the National League Central. The Cards won the series opener in extra innings and then dominated the Brewers on Wednesday to clinch the title.

The Cardinals have 4 games left as they battle with the Dodgers (West Division winners) and Mets (currently lead East) for the best record in the National League. Currently the Mets have the best record, one game better than the Cards, and 2 games better than the Dodgers.

Cardinals blanked in Game 1 of NLDS

                        Dodgers 2-6-0
                        Cardinals 0-5-0

                        W - Walker Buehler
                        L - Jack Flaherty
                        SV - Blake Treinen

The Cardinals were blanked in the NLDS opener by Walker Buehler and the Dodgers as the Cards fell 2-0. The Dodgers got on the board early as Corey Seager took an 0-2 mistake fastball to the bullpen to give the Dodgers the early 1-0 lead. That would be the only blemish on Jack Flaherty's day. Flaherty would pitch 6 solid innings striking out 7 while giving up the one run on 3 hits. He issued no walks.

The Dodgers added an insurance run in the 9th when Corey Seager singled home Mookie Betts as Daniel Norris was knocked around. With 2 on and no outs, the Cards turned to Alex Reyes (NL Reliever of the Year) who promptly got a double play by Cody Bellinger and then proceeded to strike out Will Smith on 3 pitches.

The Cards had the tying run on in the bottom of the 9th when DeJong singled with 2 outs, but Joey Gallo was struck out by Blake Treinen to end the game.

The Cards will look to bounce back in Game 2 as Max Scherzer will take the ball. The Dodgers will have Trevor Bauer on the bump as their Game 2 starter.

Dodgers flash leather, Cards bullpen unravels in Game 2

                          Dodgers 5-9-0
                          Cardinals 2-8-0

                          LAD leads series 2-0

The Cardinals had more fight tonight with the bats, but the Dodgers would flash the leather at key times to keep the Redbirds at bay as the Dodgers prevail to a Game 2 win to go up 2-0 in the NLDS.

The Dodgers again got started early when Will Smith took Scherzer deep in the 2nd to go up 1-0. In the 6th, that man Corey Seager would unleash a 2 run homerun off Scherzer to put the Dodgers up 3-0. Two batters later, Will Smith was driving in Cody Bellinger off of John Gant and the Dodgers led 4-0.

With Trevor Bauer just mowing through the lineup the Cards got one back in the 7th when Paul DeJong would single home Tommy Edman. Prior to that play Nolan Arenado had seemingly got the Cards on the board with a hot shot up the middle, but Seager would dive and stop it turning a double play. With DeJong on first and two outs, Joey Gallo would be robbed of a homerun, or at least a sure RBI double, by Mookie Betts.

Cody Bellinger knocked in another run in the 8th making it 5-1 and the Cards would have Marwin Gonzalez on 2nd after a one out double and Harrison Bader would be robbed by a diving catch by A.J. Pollock and Tommy Edman would watch Gavin Lux jump and snag a line drive in the gap out of the air.

In the 9th, the Cards pushed one across on a RBI groundout by Joey Gallo but that would be all they could muster. Victor Caratini would strike out to end the threat as the Cards fall in Game 2.

Game 3 is Saturday in Los Angeles. Jake Odorizzi and Julio Urias will be the starters.

Cardinals force Game 4 with 5-3 win in Game 3

                            Cardinals 5-8-0
                            Dodgers 3-7-0

                            LAD leads series 2-1

The Cardinals have forced a Game 4 after winning Game 3, 5-3, in Los Angeles. The road team has won every game thus far in the series and the Cards hope that trend continues tomorrow.

Once again the Dodgers jumped out early in the 2nd inning, this time with a Max Muncy solo homerun to right field off of Jake Odorizzi. Odorizzi would keep any further damage from occurring to keep the score 1-0 Dodgers.

The Cardinals answered right back in the 3rd inning when Tommy Edman hit a 2-out, 3 run bomb into left center field off of Julio Urias to give the Cardinals there first lead of the series. The Cards would add another run in the 5th when Harrison Bader belted a solo shot off of Urias to make the score 4-1.

But the Dodgers would storm back in the bottom of the 5th as Odorizzi was shaky all game and both Corey Seager and Cody Bellinger would add sacrifice flies to cut the lead to 4-3. The Cards quickly went to the bullpen but turned to Kwang Hyun Kim, who was thought to be the Game 4 starter if we got there. But Schildt knows you can't play tomorrow if you don't win today so he turned to Kim who got out of the jam and pitched a perfect 6th to keep the score 4-3.

Joey Gallo would launch his first homerun of the NLDS in the 9th inning a solo shot to dead center field to give the Cards a 2 run cushion. Alex Reyes would piggyback off of Roberto Osuna's perfect 8th, but pitching a perfect 9th including 2 strikeouts and a pop out on just 8 pitches.

Game 4 will be tomorrow night with likely Dakota Hudson getting the ball for the Cardinals. The Dodgers have Clayton Kershaw scheduled to start. Kershaw missed a majority of the season with an elbow injury and if he starts tomorrow night will be just his 2nd start since coming back from injury.

                            Other Divsional Series Matchups

                            Twins lead Yankees 2-0
                            Astros and A's tied 1-1

And there will be no repeat World Series Champion as the Braves swept the Mets in the NLDS. The Braves beat the Phillies in the Wildcard Game and now disposed of their other NL East rival Mets in the NLDS. The Braves will await the winner of the Dodgers/Cardinals series in the NLCS.

                              September 9, 2020 | DENVER, CO

Anthony Rizzo homered three times Wednesday night including a game-tying homer in the seventh and a go-ahead shot in the tenth as the Chicago Cubs swept the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, claiming the 2020 National League central division title in the process.

"It's obviously a goal from day one," said Cubs first year manager David Ross regarding the Cubs division championship. "We're in a great place right now and we have completed our first goal. We're not done though and we want to carry this momentum we have right now straight into the postseason."

The Cubs have put together an impressive winning streak as the season nears its end. Winners of 16 of their last 18 games, the Cubs are just three games shy of the best record in baseball, currently held by the 98-48 Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Cubs have been led all season long by production at the plate and have set a new franchise record for home runs as a team. A record that lasted just one season after being set in 2019.

The Cubs will head to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals for a four-game set starting Wednesday. Jose Quintana (11-4, 4.07) will make the start for the Cubs against Miles Mikolas (12-8, 3.64). Quintana, who has, is no shoe-in for a postseason spot on the roster. The Cubs manager and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer will likely have to make a decision between the southpaw Quintana and Tyler Chatwood. Both starters have had sub-par years and with a four-man rotation a foregone conclusion in October some decisions will have to be made.

Cardinals send series to St.Louis and Game 5...win Game 4, 1-0

                                Cardinals 1-7-0
                                Dodgers 0-5-0

                                Series tied 2-2

There will be a Game 5. Nolan Arenado hit a solo homerun with one out in the Top of the 9th to put the first run of the game on the board, the only run that would be put on the board, as the Cards topped the Dodgers 1-0 to force a Game 5 in St.Louis.

What a game. Clayton Kershaw (7 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 9 K) and Dakota Hudson (5.1, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 8 K) matched each other pitch for pitch, strike out for strike out, and the defenses could fulfill a Top 10 defensive plays in just these 9 innings.

There was no less than 10 outstanding defensive plays in the game including two robbed homeruns, one by A.J. Pollock and one by Harrison Bader. Corey Seager started two double plays robbing sure hits with diving stops. Tyler O'Neill made 3 diving catches in left field, one in the 4th that would've seen the Dodgers put 2 runs on the board.

This game was as dramatic as a 1-0 game could be and was absolutely fitting for October.

Now both teams will pack up and travel back to the Midwest for a Game 5 on Wednesday night in Busch Stadium. Jack Flaherty will get the ball for the Cardinals. Its expected the Dodgers will turn to Walker Buehler.
