yeah, I know why they do it, but when my team sends someone to the all-star game that is less deserving than other players, it's like getting a pity Valentine. I don't need condescension and I wish the vast majority of fans felt the same.

they should fill out the full team with the most deserving players and if, after that, there remains teams w/o representation, send a playersuited up for pre-game introductions only, but not actually get in the game once it starts.
in any event, it's a minor gear-grinder that gets me on my soapbox lol

I'm still trying to figure out why they selected Brady House for the 2022 All-Star game when he had only been called up a month or so prior....I was expecting Luke Voit or....well that's about it really.

Much noise was made about star OF Fernando Tatis Jr and his struggles this post season to a tune of .097 AVG through both the NLDS and NLCS. In game one of the World Series the star hit the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the first over the right center field fence to set the moment and give the Padres an early 1-0 lead. Tatis later added another double and finished the day 2-4. The Astros would later tie it right back up in the top of the second after an RBI double by Jose Altuve. The Padres took a 3-1 lead in the 3rd after a bases loaded ground rule double by verteran Nelson Cruz, who is hitting .448 this post-season and went 3-5 with 2 RBI's in Game 1 of the World Series. The Astros scored 1 run in each of the 4th and 5th inning with RBI's from Jose Abreu and Alex Bregman. The deciding blow game in the 6th inning when Juan Soto (pictured above) hit a two run home run vs Astro reliever Ryne Stanek. The Padres received insurance in the 8th inning when Manny Machado added a two run home run of his own to give the Padres a 7-3 game one victory at home in front of a rauacus sold out crowd.

<center>PADRES SWEEP ASTROS, WIN FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP</center>




THEY DID IT! The San Diego Padres win their first championship in franchise history after completing the best regular season in MLB history with 126 regular season wins. The Padres dominated the Astro's in every game winning Game 1 and Game 2 by a 7-3 score, game 3 12-6 and then finishing off the sweep with a 5-2 win. Juan Soto, the regular season MVP won the World Series MVP hitting .538 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. Manny Machado who finished second in regular season MVP voting took home the playoff MVP hardware after hitting .354 with 7 HR and 10 RBI. Fernando Tatis Jr, who struggled all through the NL playoffs caught fire in the World Series hitting 5 home runs and at least one in every single game. People can say in the future their big contracts will come back to haunt them, but for now, no one cares as it brought the city of San Diego their first major sport championship.

2023 Washington Nationals

Game 1: Jameson Taillon (2-1, 2.41) vs Stephen Straburg (4-4, 2.17) Stephen Strasburg’s elbow inflammation is gone, and he is back after missing just one start. Marcel Ozuna was injured in the first fielding a ball in left* and then in the seventh, Lane Thomas had to leave with an injury of his own after making a hard throw to third to prevent the runner from advancing**. Stephen Strasburg would go 7.1 innings of shutout ball, giving up 5 hits, two walks and striking out four. The Nationals would break the scoring drought in the eighth when Brandon Nimmo singled to knock Taillon out of the game, and then Luis Garcia and Yadiel Hernandez each singled off of Zach Eflin. Nimmo was aggressive on the base paths and went home, and the throw was offline to put Washington up 1-0. The Nats would get a second run when Enrique Hernandez grounded to third but Austin Riley air mailed the throw, allowing Luis Garcia to score. Trevor Rosenthal would pitch an easy ninth inning as Atlanta did not mount a threat.

*Marcell Ozuna has a pulled leg muscle and will miss 1-6 days

**Lane Thomas has a sprained elbow and will miss a few days

Game Two: Aaron Nola (5-4, 2.52) vs MacKenzie Gore (4-4, 3.88) Luis Garcia put the Nats on the board in the third inning with a two run home run. The Braves would score in the fifth when Matt Olson doubled and scored on a Hernan Perez single, and they would tie the game in the seventh as MacKenzie Gore gave up two singles before departing. Victor Arano would enter and gave up another single to Jose Iglesias, allowing Ozzie Albies to score. The Nationals would threaten in the bottom half when Nola was replaced by Huascar Ynoa, but Ildemaro Vargas would get thrown out trying to advance to third with one out and Keibert Ruiz would line out to end the threat. Victor Arano would go one inning and leave after there was one out in the eighth, and Carl Edwards would come in and pitch the remainder of the eighth and the entire ninth as well. He was dominant, giving up no hits and striking out three. The Nationals would start the ninth with a leadoff single by Brandon Drury, who was replaced by CJ Abrams to provide speed on the bases. The payoff was immediate, as Ildemaro Vargas would single in the next at bat, allowing Abrams to go first to third with nobody out. Huascar Ynoa would bear down, striking out Gleyber Torres and Joey Meneses (pinch hitting for Victor Robles) before Keibert Ruiz popped out to shallow left, it nearly dropped by Jose Iglesias showed off his glove skills and forced the game into extras. The tenth got off to a rough start, as Michael Harris hit a deep fly ball off Kyle Finnegan that was mis-played by new RF CJ Abrams, allowing Acuna (ghost runner) to score and giving Harris a leadoff triple. Harris would eventually score when Orlando Arcia doubled. AJ Minter would come in and get the save, as Washington could not mount a comeback. They had two runners thrown out by Ronald Acuna Jr in this game, and they felt like they had to challenge him as runs would be at a premium.

Spencer Strider (6-3, 3.08) vs Josiah Gray (4-4, 3.08) William Contreras would start the scoring with a solo home run in the second. Strider and Gray would then duel it out until the seventh, with neither pitcher giving up any runs and each walking one and striking out five. The bullpen was the difference in this one, as Kirby Yates, Raisel Iglesias and Webb combined to shutout the Nationals. Victor Arano would pitch two innings, striking out four but giving up a solo home run to Ozzie Albies. Colin Poche would pitch the ninth and give up back to back home runs to Austin Riley and Orlando Arcia. And that’s all for this game, the Braves use the long ball to win the game 4-0 and take the series 2-1.

The Nationals (26-27) will head to the airport immediately to fly to San Francisco and take on the Giants (21-33), who have been in quite a cold stretch lately. This could be a good opportunity to gain some ground back on the division.

2023 Washington Nationals

The Nationals had to catch a red-eye flight to San Francisco following their series against Atlanta. The good news is that the Giants are a team on the decline, or so it seems. Their offense is not very good, and they lack a true power bat in their lineup. Their pitching staff revolves around Carlos Rodon, but other than him there is not much consistency to challenge opposing batters. The Giants also lost C Joey Bart to the Marlins in the offseason, and are missing veterans Brandon Crawford and Austrin Slater as well as young phenom Heliot Ramos to injuries. The Nationals come into this series with high hopes, but need to keep their heads in the game. If they can play like they have been, they should be able to at least take two of three.


Game One: Zach Davies (2-5, 3.23) vs Alex Young (2-3, 3.98)The Nationals took an early lead when Joey Meneses doubled to score Ildemaro Vargas in the first. They would score again in the third when Brandon Nimmo doubled and then scored when Vargas singled. Brandon Nimmo would continue to be productive on the offensive end when he allowed Enrique Hernandez to score on a sac fly in the seventh. Hernandez was able to work a walk with one out, and went first to third on a Wilmer Perez single before Nimmo hit a fly ball to shallow center and Eli White had to dive to make the catch, allowing Hernandez to score easily. Zach Davies would go 7.1 innings on just 67 pitches, giving up four hits, no walks and striking out 2. San Francisco was way too aggressive against him, making a lot of weak contact. They would also use most of their bullpen, as Alex Young would only go five innings, followed by an inning each for Zack Littell, Chris Devenski, and John Brebbia. Camilo Doval would pitch the ninth and give up a solo home run to Anderson Tejeda. Aaron Bummer would pitch the ninth and go 1-2-3, and the Nationals easily take game one of the series. They probably could have scored more than four runs, but they hit into 3 double plays early in the game, killing any run they had going.

Game Two: Cade Cavalli (3-3, 3.88) vs Carlos Rodon (2-4, 3.67)
The Giants got off to a fast start, as Jon Berti led off with a double, Luis Gonzalez singled, Lamonte Wade Jr doubled, and Wilmer Flores singled all in the first nine pitches from Cavalli. JD Davis would then hit into a double play, and Wilmer Flores suffered an ankle injury sliding into second* it did not look good, and it is almost certain he will be headed to the IL. He was replaced by Pat Valaika, who would drive in Jon Berti in the second after Berti led off the inning by reaching first on a dropped third strike followed by a hit and run. The Nationals would score their first run in the fourth. Gleyber Torres would walk and Anderson Tejeda and Lane Thomas would single to load the bases with one out. Keibert Ruiz then hit a sac fly to score Torres. The Giants would again get to Cavalli in the bottom half, when Eli White and Jon Berti hit singles. White would go first to third but then suffered what appears to be a hamstring injury** He was replaced by DJ Stewart. Luis Gonzalez would hit into a double play that allowed a run to score but the inning would then end when Lamont Wade Jr flew out. Cavalli would only go 4.2 innings, but it was the first inning that really made it a short outing. He would give up a total of 11 hits, 5 runs (4 earned), two walks and would strikeout five batters. Jackson Rutledge would come in in a long relief role, and the Nationals really want to see what he can do in a longer outing before sending him back to AAA. Carlos Rodon would leave after six innings, only allowing one run on five hits, walking two and striking out three. He would be followed by Scott Alexander, Zack Littell, and Camilo Doval; all of whom would keep the Nationals off the board. Jackson Rutledge would pitch 3.1 innings, giving up a run on three hits with no walks and no strikeouts. Carlos Rodon was not dominant, but did enough to keep the Nationals from scoring, and the Giants offense gave him more than enough run support to earn him the W.

*Wilmer Flores has a fractured shin and will likely miss 2-3 months
**Eli White has a strained hamstring and will miss 1-6 days

Game Three: Stephen Strasburg (4-4, 1.93) vs Logan Webb (4-4, 2.44)
Logan Webb was scheduled to start this game but was pulled for undisclosed reasons. Reliever Chris Devenski would be the opener in what will now be a bullpen game.
Devenski had his breaking pitches working in this one, as the Nationals routinely hit ground ball after ground ball. Meanwhile, Strasburg was pitching great but it would be the Giants striking first when Tony Wolters hit a solo home run in the fifth. The Giants were playing mostly utility players or minor leaguers in this one, but they played their style of game..focusing on pitching, defense, and contact. Stephen Strasburg would leave after just five and two thirds, only allowing the one run on five hits, but walking four, hitting a batter, and striking out seven. Colin Poche would enter and pitch 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Chris Devenski would go 8 innings on 86 pitches, not exactly what you’d typically want to do with one of your relievers, but he kept the Nationals off the board and only allowed a walk, three hits and three strikeouts. Anthony Bender would pitch the ninth and give up a base hit to Luis Garcia before Yadiel Hernandez flew out to end the game. This might be the most disappointing game the Nationals have had all season, as the Giants did not field their best lineup, but they played to their strengths and the Nationals could not find a way to execute.


The Nationals end the month of May at 27-29. They are still on their long stretch of games that will finally come to a close after a four game series in Phoenix against the D’backs. This is another series the Nationals should have success in, but as we saw with the Giants, nothing is certain is baseball.

Before I play the D’backs series, I will update my spreadsheet with all stats and standings. Plus, the draft is May 31 so I will take some time to plan my picks and record as much info as I can.

For sure, and the Nationals are in the awkward position of not being sellers yet, but slowly slipping back in the standings. And yet, they aren't too far away from being contenders either, at least based on early season results. It's going to be a tough decision when the deadline approaches.

The 2023 draft has come and gone, and I believe I might have found some good players, but it's too early to tell.

The Nationals had the second pick, behind only the Pirates. In the first round, they chose SP Tommy Chung, a 23 year old righty from Taiwan. He has A potential, a starting rating of 59, but a potential rating of 92.

In the second round, the Nationals went with another starter, 21 year old lefty Simon Lynch, from Illinois. He has a 62 overall rating, with a potential of 71.

In the third round, Washington chose CF Giuseppe Gonzalez, 23, from Delaware. He has an overall of 58 and potential of 78.

In the fourth round, the Nationals selected C Damien Thompson, 20, from Ohio. He has an overall of 73 and potential of 79.

The Nationals may have found a steal in the fifth round, as they selected right-handed SP Hubert Brito, 21, from Cuba. He has a 67 overall, with B potential and a potential rating of 89.

The sixth and final pick was 18 year old CF Tommy Russell from Massachusetts, with a 59 overall and 76 potential.

This is the second year in a row that the Nationals chose an international starting pitcher with their first pick, and while Chung isn't as ready as Felipe Escalona, he has the potential to be a key piece in the future.

2023 Washington Nationals

Game One: MacKenzie Gore (4-4, 3.80) vs Merrill Kelly (2-4, 3.49)
Luis Garcia was taken out of the starting lineup with a bruised shoulder. He will be out for a few days.
Another frustrating game for the Nationals, as MacKenzie Gore pitched well, but the Nationals offense was either non-existent or just unlucky. They would work 4 walks, but could not score in this one. Nothing they did was working for them, every hit ball was either a ground out, a deep fly ball, or a screamer that found a glove. The Diamondbacks played small ball to win this one, getting 14 hits but only scoring two runs. The Nationals desperately need someone to step up in the next game, as this is a series they should be able to win.

Game Two: Josiah Gray (4-5, 2.94) vs Caleb Baragar (4-2, 4.33)
Arizona would score first when Ketel Marte hit a solo home run in the third. That would be the only scoring until the eighth, when Victor Robles scored on an infield single by Enrique Hernandez. Robles led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Wilmer Perez. CJ Abrams bounced out to the pitcher, allowing Robles to go to third before Hernandez hit a ground ball deep in the hole at short and was able to beat the throw to score Robles. But the Diamondbacks would win it in the ninth, as Carl Edwards Jr came on for his second inning of work and gave up a two out double to Daulton Varsho followed by a two run walk off home run to Seth Beer. Another heartbreaking loss for the Nationals, who wasted Josiah Gray’s great start: 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 7 K.

Zach Davies got off to a rough start against his former squad, giving up a three run home run to Christian Walker in the first and a solo home run by Carson Kelly in the second. The Nationals would counter with two runs in the third when Victor Robles and Keibert Ruiz doubled, and then Ildemaro Vargas followed two batters later with another double. The D’backs would get to Davies again in the fourth, loading the bases with nobody out and scoring two more runs. The Nationals would again chip away in the top of the fifth. Victor Robles would single and Enrique Hernandez would finally have the baseball gods smile back on him as he hit a two run homer. He has been showing signs of snapping out of his slump, and is finally rewarded. The Nationals would load the bases with one out, but only get one more run in the inning on a Joey Meneses sac fly. Jackson Rutledge would replace Zach Davies after the fourth inning, and would strikeout Daulton Varsho for his first major league K. Rutledge would go two innings, striking out three but also allowing a run when Corbin Carroll doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an Alek Thomas groundout. The Nationals caught a huge break in the ninth when Alex Reyes would come in and try to close the game, but a walk, fly out, and two hit batters would load the bases with one out. Brandon Drury would ground to short but the ball was bobbled and a run would score in what would be a fielders choice. Joey Meneses would then come through by hitting a double that got past the outfielder, scoring two runs and putting the Nationals up 8-7. Meneses would round second for third but decided to go back to second and a heads up throw by the D-backs would end the inning. Aaron Bummer would come in to face the lefty-dominant Arizona lineup. He would strike out Corbin Carroll before Alek Thomas got a base hit and stole second. Geraldo Perdomo would pop up a bunt attempt and Josh Rojas would get caught looking at strike three to end the game and give the Nationals a much needed win.

The Nationals are definitely exhausted, and frustrated, after these past seventeen days. They have fallen to 28-32 and are a half game away from being in last place in the NL East. The offense is looking too similar to last season’s, which is not acceptable given the bats that were brought in during Free Agency. The good news is the pitching staff has been strong, and the first look at Jackson Rutledge is promising. Of course there will be those looking to see last year’s first round pick, Felipe Escalona, but the Nationals do not want to rush him.

The Nationals now return home to face the Angels and Brewers before heading back on the road.

Hey guys so i decided to start up my franchise using 22. I will be doing a complete rebuild and relocate the Baltimore Orioles and moving them to Portland and bring back the Portland Beavers! We will be playing at Crosley Field which most resembles the actual ballpark. I have distributed players from the Orioles around the league for instance, Cedric Mullins is with the Mets, John Means with the Phillies, and Austin Hays is with Miami. I'll be using Ridin Rosters with my own tweaks on potentials. My team will be filled with all Free agents and some minor leaguers from the Orioles. I will be Quick Managing the majority of the games but also playing a bunch as well. Extra innings rule is on as well as quick counts. I'll be doing updates every month since there will definitely be a lot of moving parts. I'm going to try and keep this as realistic as possible no crazy trades or singings; waivers are fair game though. Hope you guys enjoy, this will definitely be a challenge!

One of the things I have always loved about this game is its pretty hard (if playing on the right game settings) to really build a winner unless you cheat the game. If you play it out realistically, its not easy.

I really hope you're right, because I was starting to actually get frustrated with the game during these last two series. But it really is playing out like real baseball, where a team will just go through a streak where every hard hit ball is an out yet the opponent gets bloopers to fall or gets all the right calls by the ump.

I'm still trying to look at the big picture, this team is definitely on pace to be better than the 2022 season, which is really all I can ask for. I have some more young guys I want to take a look at, so if the year does fall apart I can call them up before September and see what I have. Or, I could try to compete for a Wild Card this year if I can get things turned around.

I'm just glad people enjoy reading these, especially lately as there hasn't been too much to report.
