You will get the majestic pulled back no doubt camera for HR’s.

Have had it several times already.

Sure hope this is patched, I have noticed this as well. One in particular where the batter holds his follow through watching the ball.

I'll be interested in what you say about RttS. That is the only interest I have and it sounds like it is still a mess.

DH? Who needs a DH in the National League? Not Miles Mikolas. Just hit a 421 FT bomb into left field with Mikolas off of Corbin Burnes of the Brewers.

Re: MLB The Show 22 - (PS5/Xbox Series X|S) Impressions

What a breath of fresh air.

First off, let’s talk commentary. The play by play is fantastic. It really sounds like you are listening to a real game. Yes, the color commentary gets repetitive but I’m okay with that. The voices sound smooth and flow together unlike anything heard in a MLB show game before. I have read where some people are upset with the repeated lines and some of the stitching sounds unnatural. I hear it too but it does not take away from my experience playing. I think it comes down to your own personal preference. I think it is a solid introduction to the new commentary and see this as the building blocks for future iterations. Is it perfect? No. But I think it is a good start.

Presentation. I love the presentation this year. The regional broadcast is great. The Show broadcast stands out. I love the random fan cams. It pops up a few times a game so its not over excessive. The between inning music is good (all though its not sounds of the show.) It just feels like an actual broadcast.

Hitting is challenging. I play on Hall of Fame using timing with analog input. I find it to be a good challenge. There are games I can’t hit the side of a barn while other games I see good contact. Some games I can just crush the ball. This also has to do with what pitcher you are facing because you can really see the difference in the pitchers. Depending on who is on the mound, you will have to change your approach at the plate. Its not just that hitting is difficult, you have to have a solid game plan as well. Homeruns are not over excessive this year. There were games I hit four home runs and then went five games without hitting any. I love the differing results.

Pitching using pin point pitching on Hall of Fame is easy until it isn’t. If you have your ace on the mound, you can locate your pitches pretty easily. But when your pitcher starts to get tired, control becomes an issue and what seemed easy at the start becomes a huge challenge. I also noticed that when you are not pitching with your ace, pitching is much tougher and you have to really think about what pitch you are going to throw. I have had some games even with my ace on the mound, he was off and locating my pitches was far more difficult than his previous start. I love how not each game played is the same.

Fielding. Fielding looks great but I have had some issues. My fielders sometimes seem like they are stuck in mud as they are running after a fly ball. Some fielders have slow reaction times and can’t seem to catch up to the ball. This could also be that I am using the Nationals this year and their fielders are not the greatest. But even with that said, my fielders do seem oddly slow so I don’t know if it is just because my team is not great or if it needs a slider adjustment. I have to play more to find out. I have seen some amazing plays though. There was a ball hit to the left side of my 2nd baseman and he slid to grab it and instead of rolling to make a throw, he was close enough to first that while lying on his stomach, rushed an emergency lob to first base. The baserunner was safe but it was a solid, fluid animation.

Throwing. I had to separate this from fielding because of the issues I have been having. I use pure analog input with the throwing meter off. This is the worst area in my opinion. The number of offline throws is horrible. I know there are choices for button accuracy and just buttons but only one choice for pure analog. For me, it is more natural to use the analog stick to throw since my thumb is already on the analog stick. Currently, it is not a playable option using pure analog with the throwing meter off. I hope this gets patched because all of the other aspects of the game are great.

Atmosphere and Stadiums. The stadiums do appear bigger. I love it. Maybe that’s why my fielders seem slower. I don’t know but the stadiums are beautiful. I know the grass isn’t the greatest but I hope this is something that is worked on in the future. The atmosphere is something to take in. From the pop of the mit to the crack of the bat to the jet flying over Citi Field, the sounds are all enhanced. The crowd seems to be actually watching the same game you are playing. There was one game I was playing where my player hit a three-run home run and every time that player would bat again, the crowd loudly booed him. I remember this happening last year but he was only booed once. This time it was every at bat after the homerun. Or maybe it was every at bat last year but it is more noticeable this year because it is so much louder. In another game I was losing 15 – 1 to the Braves. When I was up in the top of the 7th inning, the crowd was so quiet, you can hear soft murmurs but the hecklers seemed louder. It was great. Back in the 3rd and 4th innings when the Braves where annihilating my pitching staff, the crowd was boisterous and loud almost the entire time. Also, using the Pulse 3D Headset is phenomenal.

Overall, I am enjoying my time with MLB 22. If the analog throwing issues can be fixed, I would be much happier. Everyone will have their gripes. It is a video game after all. With so many people playing the game and everyone having different things that are important to them, the game will not please everyone. I am an offline franchise player which often gets just a slight polish each year but this year with the presentation and commentary and the tweaks made to gameplay, I am very happy with this years product.

                  PLayed 2 exb games.

Love the new commentary even though its not perfect. Its less chatter and more focused on whats happening in the game.

Fielding feels a lot better and animations are smoothest ive seen yet.

Default batting camera is even perfect for my eyes.

Game feels fresh and not like a yearly roster upgrade.

                  LOVE IT

The game still has noticeable frame rate dips below 60fps, in both 1440p and 4k, I'm not gonna bother with 1080p. Other than that and the lack of equipment brands that hopefully will show up in a patch I'm sure the game itself is fine.

Played an exhibition game in Anaheim.

Still no Honda center or train station in the backround. Bummer.

Finally the announcers just call them the The Angeles Angels.

I don't like that I couldn't have Ohtani DH while he was the SP.
There was an animation where Rendon tied his shoes before stepping into the box but there were no shoeleaces and he had on a foot guard so that was weird.

I couldn't seem to find my throwing preference that I have been using for years.

I hit back to back HR and the new announcers didn't acknowledge it.

Overall though, I like what I heard from them.

I use analog pitching and it seemed a little tougher than 21.
I saw some kind meter next to the team names. I assume that is like momentum or something as I haven't been reading up on all the new additions.

I liked the new overall look of the score box.

I tried out Diamond Dynasty and was still given the big tutorial. Why? Can't SDS see that I have been playing DD for a long time now? Wish there was an option. Oh well.

Pitchers STILL have to bat in DD. Why oh why SDS?

                      I am liking the soundtrack.
Will start checking out other stuff.

I popped 4 achievements in my first game so that was cool.
Got another one for creating a DD team.

Green Monster is broken..at least on Franchise. No scoreboard at all.

Otherwise, Fenway looks amazing this year..The grass, the dirt, the crowd. Hopefully I get to see what it looks like at night as there were about zero night games at Fenway last year.

                        Classic pitch still sucks.

Normally I’m a PlayStation guy all the way, but tried it on Series X as it’s on GamePass and man, the game runs horribly. The frame rate while using pinpoint pitching is just bad. Big dips and just doesn’t feel smooth at all.

Yep, it frequently dips below 60fps, it's quite jarring and easily noticeable.

It seems like every player can throw laser-balls no matter the fielding rating. You can easily throw bombs from RF to 3d base with ease, even if your player doesn't have a good arm. I really don't like the lack of granularity, it feels really game-y.

I’ve never played a sports game where the achievements/trophies are this easy lol. I never even try for them in sports games because a lot of the time they’re tied to modes that I don’t even care about. But I’m already at 980 gamerscore with just 1 more achievement to go. I have to figure out how to get the AI to smoke a ball 110+ mph and I have to catch it lol.
