The series X version is locked during gameplay at 60fps. This from the chart on the C1 but there are dips as low as 40fps to about 52fps during cutscenes and panning camera when batters step away from the box after a pitch. During actual gameplay the FPS never dips below 60

Really hoping the patch for the old medium cam arrives soon.
The new lower version is throwing me off trying to take angles and make diving stops in the infield. Outfield not really a factor, but man its causing some headaches with my infield defense.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Armor has, as always it seems, summed up my feelings on this game with his posts. Best it’s ever played out of the box imo. Hello old friend….

The series x dips down in the high 40's to mid 50's while pitching in broadcast views and down to the low 30's during batter walk ups / step outs, depending on the particular situation. While batting and while the ball is in the air it's locked at 60fps for the most part. The PS5 dips below 60 as well, but not as bad as the series x. This has nothing to do with the hardware of either system, it's all about the developers and how good they are at coding for the various platforms.Comment

Exactly. Series X is a beast of a console, but even then in a lot of Digital Foundry tests the PS5 has more even and stable frame rates across games. Anyway, yeah - it’s quite noticeable and is super distracting.Comment

I appreciate the presentation. It feels more lively, getting that key strike out, or home run with the crowd and new commentary.
I settled for now using dynamic fielding camera since the medium is a different version currently.
I looked through the mlb the show 22 PS5 in game settings but didn’t notice a way to turn off vibration. I turned off vibration through the PS5 dashboard settings.
Played one game vs cpu and practiced some batting with the current challenge of the week. Enjoying the experience so far.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 22 - (PS5/Xbox Series X|S) Impressions
I wasn’t a big fan of 21. I actually played my one season last year within franchise on 2020 and enjoyed the heck out of it. 20 is a fantastic game, no doubt, SOTS, etc.
But I was intrigued by the new commentary. I had turned off Matt and crew years ago. So, needless to say, did my yearly preorder after deleting 21 from my PS5.
For me….whole new ball game. If you don’t pay attention to subtleties I think you miss what we have here on the field. If you go in with a negative vibe I think you miss it. I’ve only played about 5 games so far as I’m getting my opening day roster ready, but I’ve definitely got that “wow” factor. 21, quite frankly, left me shrugging my shoulders.
I didn’t quite get the presentation early on until I went into settings and put the camera frequency to ALWAYS. For some reason it was set to HIGH LEVERAGE. The presentation this year is really nice.
The player movements in the field, a thing of beauty. I’m playing on a 65” QLED and the colors are stunning. Absolute gorgeous game.
I LOVE the silence during the announcing. Are there some bumps and bruises, yep, but I gave up my entitlements years ago. It’s so fresh I won’t be turning these two off. Hopefully the boys at SDS can fix a few things soon.
I’m not really happy that the CAPS didn’t get touched. Gargoyles remain, but I’m given the option to change those, so that’s what I’m doing before I get into the season. Options….glad we’re given options.
Gonna be a great year for baseball gaming. If you are a real baseball fan don’t let the little things keep you away from this game. It’s a video game. But, if you do, that’s okay too.Last edited by KnightTemplar; 04-05-2022, 04:03 PM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 22 - (PS5/Xbox Series X|S) Impressions
Just some brief history before my .02. I wasn't planning on getting this year's version. I played '21 and honestly, felt disappointed. I know the team was doing their best with all of these new consoles to work with, but the gameplay, to me, felt like it did back on the PS2 era. Just the same rinse/repeat cycle of years past, and no variety in hits hardly at all.
My wife surprised me with a Series S, as I have a big work trip coming up that I leave for on Sunday, and will be gone two weeks. So she got it for me as a surprise to take with me. I loaded up GamePass, and got it pre-loaded.
Just played two games, and this might be the best its ever played. The variety on hits is so damn good. I had DeJong at the plate, and hit this dribbler, which last year would have been gobbled up in no time. The Ke'Bryan Hayes scooped it up, and bobbled the ball! I was in shock at that one, never seen that before. Worked a walk, and I had Bader up, who hits a broken bat single. Again, last year, that would have been gobbled up in no time. Then Carlson battled for 8 pitches before hitting a deep fly that the OF barely missed.
Next game a ball was coming at Edman, hit off the pitchers mound, and the ball slowed like it should. Took an odd hop, Edman made a slick backhanded grab.
The gameplay is so damn smooth, it really is MLB The Show 20 on steroids.
As for the Series S, it looks great on my 1440P monitor. Smooth as butter.Comment

I don’t think it can be overstated just how amazing the defense is now on this game.
It is truly next level.
And the hitting engine……lord in heaven.
But lets put aside the gameplay.
The entire new presentation package…..the themes, the music, the replay cameras, the Google cast, Boog and Singleton….the amount of freshness the series has been injected with is nothing short of awesome sauce.
And the audio…..the job the audio team did this year is second to none.
Tremendous.

Re: MLB The Show 22 - (PS5/Xbox Series X|S) Impressions
I feel you man, the look and feel of the field has been bothering me as well for quite some time now but since we’re in the 2nd release on the ps5 and not much has changed since the ps4 I have low expectations moving forward.
Maybe just maybe they are working behind the scenes on a big graphical overhaul that spans over a 2-3 year timeframe that they might implement next year [emoji1694]
I have serious doubts. I just don't think the team is capable of it presently. The Switch probably adds even more issues. The grass in general still shows PS3 roots! That's insane. Really, it is. It doesn't even look marginally like a real field. Taking photographs, visiting fields, and then applying techniques to get that kind of visual fidelity in the game is the only way it will be possible on next gen, and so far they haven't done one single thing to make that happen.Comment
