Re: MLB The Show 22 - (PS5/Xbox Series X|S) Impressions
I've played a few more games, and I'm definitely feeling my age after a long work week because I have to shut things down because my reaction speeds are decreased. Could also be the whiskey, but who can really tell?
Seriously though, this game is amazing. Everything just feels tuned up and sharpened, or as Armor said, MLB 20 on steroids. MLB 21 always felt off to me, and I am not getting that vibe with 22; it is very much a course correction in offline gameplay and more in line with what we experience in MLB 18-20 on the PS4.
Regional broadcast package is amazing!
I'm seriously trying to think of a negative I experienced in my games today and I can't think of a glaring one.
Frame rate is solid. Defense is solid. Pitching is solid. Hitting is solid. The CPU manufactures runs again and doesn't score only on HR's.
Just a really enjoyable experience. I'm glad I spent the extra $15 for this early access.Currently Playing:

I have seen multiple starting pitchers have 100 plus pitch counts. Of course they was dominating against me. Some of them had 12’s K’s or more. The cpu love to steal. They will even catch you slipping and steal third base. Every game is a different strategy game.Comment

Most of what I have to say has already been said, some more eloquently then I would have put it.
My biggest thing, it’s a breath of fresh air. The stadiums just feel so much more alive and immersive this year. Commentary, presentation and etc. all get a strong A+. Graphical improvements wasn’t really discussed by SDS so I’m guessing they didn’t do much but I’d swear the details and shadows in the stadiums have the game looking better.
My one issue to this point and it’s me being really nit-picky, rosters in MTO aren’t truly up to date. Which is a bit weird because the players are updated in franchise and DD. Given they’ve made such solid improvements to MTO this year, I was really surprised to see outdated rosters. I’m hoping this gets fixed but I’m not so sure it will because I feel as if Odor was on the Rangers for several months after release. I was actually looking forward to doing a real deep dive into MTO this year.
Moving on from the negative. This game is a few franchise updates away from being absolutely legendary. I can’t believe how much more enjoyable it is to actually play the game this year compared to last year.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 22 - (PS5/Xbox Series X|S) Impressions
Didn't have time to play a full game yet (just 1 mini-season game & a couple moments), but a few things jumped out:
I certainly haven't even scratched the surface of how awesome commentary is yet, but I can already tell it will be fantastic. Boog is perfect for this game. His style IRL is almost perfect for the way they patch together his lines. It really is almost seamless.
Hitting seems more difficult...but it could just be rust as I haven't played a whole lot of 21 recently. I think I just need to get some more ABs in to get my timing down again. I was late on just about every fastball
It seems like there is a better variety of swing animations, and it feels like they have gotten rid of some of the more "clunky" ones.
The base roster is really good. I was working on a roster rerate project leading up to launch, and I'm not sure I need to change much. There a few prospects who are rated weirdly (Brennen Davis has power ratings in the 20's even after his breakout last year), but at first glance the potentials seemed pretty solid. Still a few weird post-hype guys with A potential (I guess SDS is still waiting for that Lewis Brinson breakout). Having no fake players at all is pretty cool.
Only real roster gripe is that it appears that option years are still not accurate or editable. I feel like that would really add another layer to those Opening Day roster decisions in franchise mode. It would also keep the waiver wire moving right from the get go
Anyway looking forward to playing some full games tomorrow. Its going to be a great year for the show.

For the people mentioning the medium defense camera, SDS has confirmed that it's bugged and it will be fixed to normal.Boston Red Sox

The commentary lacks of interaction and is huge disappointed. In view of no major updated in terms of gameplay as well as disappointed new commentary I might forget about buying this year version.Comment

Another quick observation for those who thought there were too many home runs last year. They’ve been toned down. A lot. Online and offline I’m seeing way less than in 21

What's the gripe with medium defense camera? I've actually been enjoying the new look of it, and didnt know it was a bug.Comment

Make sure to load the live roster before starting MTO. I made the same mistake when I started. First game against the As and I was up against Chris Bassitt and Matt Chapman was still at 3B. I knew something was up. Once I loaded it and started over everything was peachy.
With updated rosters for MTO, I don’t have really have any negatives. I’m really excited to experience an MTO off-season. I love the updates they made and I really hope they bring them to franchise next year.
A small thing I haven’t seen mentioned that I really appreciated this year and maybe I missed it in years past, but I love that they time-stamped music for walkups. I’ve always imported my own music prior to last year so maybe that was already a feature but I don’t feel like it was. I’m still upset about SOTS but at least they made it a bit easier to deal with.
I still have wishlist items for next years game. Franchise updates and create a stadium branding leading the pack, but this is incredibly playable game that deserves the praise it’s getting.Comment
