Re: MLB The Show 23 Technical Test Has Begun - Post Your Impressions Here

I guess it's perception, but the bat sounds awful this year. I agree the the pop of the catcher's mitt sounds better, but the bat sounds like an actors slate slamming closed. Action take 33...

I immediately through in 22' and that is what the sound of the bat should sound like. Has some echo/reverb to it, if that makes sense?

With that said, the catcher's mitt sound doesn't sound as good in 22'. It's almost the sounds have been swapped.

    Bummer!

MLB The Show 23 Technical Test Has Begun - Post Your Impressions Here

      After a few more games:

      - at times the bat sounds fine and others it seems “off”. I hit a homerun with Realmuto that landed in the second from top row of seats of the Western Metal supply building and the bat sounds as though it vibrated and nothing was solid

      - I’m seeing new animations at first and when fielders, mainly infielders gather before throwing

      - hitting is starting to show it’s differences in comparison to ‘22. Balls getting in the gaps better and more variety

      - pitching still feels like ‘22 which isn’t a negative just that nothing has jumped out to me as significantly different

      - the swing feedback pop up when ball is in play is flipping annoying. Turned it off

      - same token, the pitch selection menu is really consolidated and seemingly on top of itself

Just went back and listened to the Jazz Chisholm video, and it's clear that the sound off the bat in that clip is from 22'

The crack of the bat isn't even close in this demo.

Yeah it is really not well designed. Made you wonder how they thought it was an improvement. That is something that should be if it isn’t broke don’t fix it.

I first seen that swing feedback and knew the clean screen folks would go crazy.

Hopefully the bat sounds will be fixed. Sometimes it sounded like 21 with no bat sound on line drives.

Swing timing is off. I throw 101 mph FBs and CPU batter is consistently "very early." This is also true when HUM batting.

Btw..I am play HOF for pitch and hit and fastball and offspeed at 10.

Using DD, I checked out the uniform creator. Same as the last couple seasons. Same weird name fonts, same number fonts (and still no standard block), same plain jackets and same lack of places to put logos. Still only a home and road uniform, too.

              Disappointing but not surprising.

Where are you able to access sliders? I don’t see them in settings

Inside the options explorer mode, where you can play a full game offline with the Astros and Phillies. You have to pause the game to access them.

The fact is that the create a team mode where you can choose the city, team name, create uniforms etc. has remained virtually unchanged since its introduction to DD several years ago and it's subsequent inclusion in franchise. The only change I am aware of is to replace Indians with Guardians.

I would have liked to see additional location sound files, like for Providence and Troy, and for team names like Grays (for Providence and also the Negro Leagues) and Beaneaters (for Boston) , added. They could have even added some of the team names and missing locations from the Negro Leagues. However, this appears to remain unchanged in 2023. This is unfortunate as it likely should not be too difficult I would think.

One thing I noticed immediately is that two-handed swings seem much better. A lot less of those half follow through where they stop their swing just after contact. Those batters actually finish their swings

Not sure I love the bat sound. Almost sounds more like whiffle ball....but I feel like it always sounds different in the tech test for some reason

The new throwing meter will take some getting used to for sure. I just hope it isn't as easy to master as the old one

The more I play, the more the changes show themselves and ultimately provide a better experience overall.

Still with that said, I think its going to take something else in the game; presentation, new Storylines game mode, improved franchise/RTTS/MTO, to get those who are pleased and still very much enjoy '22 to make the switch.

As I play more and more games, I realize I'm not missing the commentary at all with the new atmosphere in the stadium. I hope this is a sign of things to come and the developers build on this to make the playoff atmosphere a step up from the solid foundation they've set.

After about 30 minutes of playing, I think I’m just going to wait and play the final version in its intended state. A few observations-

Swing and misses seems improved. It was too easy to foul off pitches last year. The new fielding meter is a welcomed change. Still weary it will become easy to master at some point.

The screen is too cluttered now with the new pitch selection and pci analysis. Hopefully this will be cleaned up by release.

The bat sounds needs some work as other have suggested. Sometimes it sounds good, sometimes it awful.

Austin Riley is missing his mizuno equipment which is hopefully not a repeat of missing equipment at launch like ‘22.
