Re: MLB The Show 23 Technical Test Starts on February 15

The bat to ball sounds do a good job of deciphering the difference between solid and weak contact.

I've played two full games (sample size keep in mind) and I don't think that anyone who is on the fence about buying the game based on gameplay improvements alone are going to be swayed. Granted the gameplay changes are not extreme and will expose themselves over the course of time (more than 18 innings), but even then I don't know that there's enough to warrant someone making the leap to '23 from '22 or whichever version they are playing because they didn't "like" '22. The biggest thing that stood out was the jump reaction of outfielders (poor vs good).

Again sample size needs to be kept in mind with this extremely early return and I understand there's things not present in the game (can't override defensive position), but at its core (gameplay) the differences between '23 and '22 feel subtle honestly.

Will be interested to see how my opinion changes, if it does, at the end of this tech test period.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I didn't play the tes tech, but this is really what I was expecting. Not major changes in gameplay that would be noticed immediately .

A few points from the switch version I'm playing offline while I wait for PS5 to download:

        - If they were going to allow us to stream and record this time, I wish they would have removed the username watermarks from all over the screen.

        - Going to take a minute to figure out where everything is in the menus as things have been moved around a bit. The options themselves seem to be more or less the same, though - and sliders can be adjusted if you go into the options explorer game and pause.

        - custom practice is in for offline, didn't expect that. I had hoped to get some comparisons of what PCI sizes looked when driven by contact vs. clutch, so it looks like that will be possible!

        - switch framerate seems much more on par with what it was at the game's launch last year than last year's tech test - which is to say better.

Agree with CB, bat to ball sounds are vastly improved and hit variety seems a bit more physics based. Pitching seems refined and new fielding meter is a welcome addition and adds a level of difficulty to it. Unfortunately the differences are subtle at best and with the graphics legit untouched (and when I say untouched I mean the '23 beta vs.'22 game are literally indistinguishable), I can't see anyone on the fence making the leap solely because of the beta.

Of course I've only played about 14 innings. But yeah. It's honestly '22 with a few subtle gameplay changes. Quite possibly the least difference between any 2 versions I've ever played (and I've been playing since like '08), but there's no presentation or commentary in the beta.

Stupid question, but do you think the sliders could be tested using the beta? Like if you test the sliders on default, would that generally be the same play as when the game comes out?

Strange I downloaded the PS5 version but I could swear it looks like I am playing the PS4 version on my PS5!

Just to confirm it, no pickoff attempt limit in offline play (or options explorer, at least)

Default Legend with Zone Hitting and Meter Pitching - Simulation

In the first game (Astros) I played, there were a total combined 20 strikeouts in the game (10 per team) and 5 combined walks (PHI 2 - HOU 3). Final was 3-0 in favor of the Phillies. Rhys Hoskins hit a two run homerun and then Schwarber doubled home a run in the 9th.

In the second game (Phillies) there were a total of 18 strikeouts (11 by HOU - 7 by PHI) and 4 combined walks (3 for HOU - 1 for PHI). Final was 5-3 in favor of the Astros as Yordan Alvarez hit a 3 run bomb in the 9th to walk it off. I scored 3 runs in the 5th when Trea Turner hit a bases clearing triple on a ball in the gap.

I do appreciate the increased (slightly) swings and misses but do want to be cautious of the number of total strikeouts. Granted both games featured Wheeler vs Valdez, but still 38 strikeouts combined in 2 games raises an eyebrow.

The new baserunning windows take a moment to get used to, but give a better view of the runners lead.

The crowd is fun to listen to and their chatter. I honestly couldn't tell you if this is better, worse or same as '22 as I'm always playing with commentary on, but its entertaining right now.

There are new animations to be seen and there does seem to be a sense of urgency amongst the fielders when required.

I'm going to at some point (even though I played it last night) going to play a game of '22 and just see if I can feel the differences now that I've gotten a few innings under my belt with '23. With '22 (BETA) vs '21 the gameplay differences really stood out, but this year not so much thus far.

If all things were equal I would say yes, but the players used in the Options Explorer (full exhibition games) have DD attributes so you'll have guys with attributes that rate over 100.

Still, I don't think the differences will be so drastic that you couldn't get a really good feel for where sliders need to be at launch.

What stadium choices do we have in beta for full games? I want to say last year we had 4.

                          This is kind of nice:

There's a new option called "Pitch Select Displays" that allows you to show either detailed pitch info or the batter's ratings when holding down R button pre-pitch (it's zR for Switch). There's one for the batter's side as well to show pitch types, though note that in offline play the pitcher will deliver as soon as you let the button go.

disappointed that they didn't remove the auxiliary scoreboards in Yankee Stadium and replace them with Video boards.

Bat sounds ARE nice. Batting practice mode you get to see the batters moving around in the box post pitch.
