    Arizona DBacks Injury Update

Merrill Kelly suffered a Fractured Forearm trying to get the first batter in the 7th inning in Game 2, and doctors estimate that he will be out for 1-2 months, and he will be headed to the 60-day IL. The corresponding move is that the D Backs will be moving Zach Davies to the rotation 3 spot and moving Drey Jameson to the second spot in the rotation, effectively skipping his next start which was against the Brewers as he works to get his command under… well command. They will also bring Jandel Gustave the RHP reliever up from Reno to fill Kelly’s roster spot that he left vacated by his injury. Best wishes to Merrill as we hope for a speedy recovery!!

Cardinals take series from Brewers in Milwaukee

The Cardinals (7-2) took 2 games of a 3 game set with the Brewers in Milwaukee over the weekend. The Cardinals maintain an early 2 game lead in the NL Central.

The Cardinals lost the series opener on Friday as Brandon Woodruff absolutely dominated the bats with 8 innings of work that saw him give up just one run on 3 hits and record 15 strikeouts. Jordan Montgomery was impressive in his own right tossing 6 innings of 2 run, 5 hit ball with 7 strikeouts, but he would earn the loss.

The Cardinals bounced back Saturday winning in 10 innings when Juan Yepez delivered a RBI single scoring Lars Nootbaar. Giovanny Gallegos would close the door for the save for the injured Ryan Helsley. Nolan Arenado continued his hot streak hitting safely in his 5th straight game.

The Sunday finale Miles Mikolas made sure the Cards were coming away with the series win. Mikolas went 8 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 scattered hits and fanning 7. His only blemish was a two run homerun off the bat of Matt Olson in the 8th inning with 2 outs. Nolan Arenado delivered a long ball to go with 3 hits and 4 RBI to propel the Cards to the 6-2 victory.

The Cardinals will now travel to Colorado for a 3 game series with the Rockies beginning on Monday night.

@countryboy I may have missed it. But did you write up your yearly review of the previous years (2022) game? I always enjoy reading that thread.

Okay, so I haven't bought MLB since they got rid of the carry-over saves as I just couldn't let go of my old franchise. I think I may finally be ready to make the jump this year.

I know Ridin works for SDS now so I assume the Full Minors rosters he used to do are out of the question...what is the state of the minor league rosters in the game right now? I know it's come a very long ways since the last time I bought an MLB game.

Cardinals take another series, this time against the Rockies

The Cardinals (9-3) won another series in the early part of the season, this time taking 2 games of a 3 game set against the Rockies in cold Colorado. All 3 games featured temperatures in the 30's, with Wednesday's game having temps in the 30's and 12mph winds...brrrr.

The Cardinals lost game one as their bats were frozen (pun intended). The Cardinals only tallied a single hit, getting shutout 3-0. Brendan Donovan broke up the no hitter being tossed by Antonio Senzatela in the top of the 8th with a bloop single to left field.

Tuesday and Wednesday were both winners for the Cardinals as the bats warmed up and the Cardinals mashed a combined total 23 hits and 7 homeruns over the two day span. They won Tuesday 6-2 and again on Wednesday 6-0, behind Jordan Montgomery's 2nd complete game shutout of the season.

The Cardinals will return home for a 7 game homestand, starting with 4 against the Pirates this weekend. They will play the Diamondbacks in a 3 game series starting on Monday.

Any improvements to progression/regression this year? Last I played (2 years ago) every 37 year old started regressing to where they were unplayable within a year.

                  2023 Washington Nationals

                  Game 1: Joe Rock (3-8, 4.65) vs MacKenzie Gore (4-7, 4.30)
Washington jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third when Kike Hernandez hit a sac fly. The Nationals had the bases loaded but were unlucky as they hit the ball too hard, resulting in runners having to hold up or hitting right at an outfielder. That would change in the fifth; Keibert Ruiz and Victor Robles led off the inning with walks before Brady House hit a bloop single that Ruiz read perfectly, allowing him to score from second. Kike Hernandez followed with an RBI groundout that chased Rock from the game. The Rockies brought in reliever Jaden Hill, who struckout Brandon Drury and avoided giving up a run when Charlie Blackmon went all out to make a diving catch to rob Joey Meneses. The Nationals would add another run in the seventh when Victor Robles hit a lead off home run off of young reliever Gavin Hollowell. MacKenzie Gore pitched seven shutout innings, giving up six hits but not allowing the Rockies to string many together. Carl Edwards Jr would come in to pitch the eighth and give up a home run to Elias Diaz he would get out of the inning and hand it over to Trevor Rosenthal, who would pick up his 16th save and remain perfect in save opportunities for the year.

Game Two: Antonio Senzatela (6-5, 2.97) vs Josiah Gray (4-7, 3.67)
The Rockies scored in the first when Garrett Hampson singled and went first to third on a Kris Bryant single. Brendan Rodgers grounded into a double play but that allowed Hampson to score. The Nationals finally scored in the fifth; Keibert Ruiz, CJ Abrams, and Brady House all singled to score the first run, and Luis Garcia hit a sac fly to score Abrams and give Washington a 2-1 advantage. They would add two more in the sixth; Brandon Nimmo beat out an infield single, and then with two outs Keibert Ruiz doubled to score him and chase Senzatela from the game. CJ Abrams would then double off of Ryan Borucki to score Ruiz. Josiah Gray would go 6.2 innings, giving up one run on 7 hits, walking zero and striking out six. Carl Edwards Jr. would pitch the last out of the seventh and the eighth, and then Trevor Rosenthal shut the door for another Nationals win.

Game Three: Kyle Freeland (3-8, 4.86) vs Zach Davies (5-6, 3.22)
Colorado almost got an early lead as they had men on second and third with only one out, but CJ Cron hit a ball right into the dirt for Wilmer Perez to get the easy out at first and Ryan McMahon grounded out to Gleyber Torres to prevent any runs from scoring. In the bottom of the first, leadoff man Kike Hernandez singled on a ball that CF Benny Montgomery dove for but could not make the catch. He was able to knock the ball down to prevent extra bases, but bruised his ribs in the process and had to leave the game. Ildemaro Vargas followed with a double that bounced off the tip of a leaping Kris Bryant in left, and Brandon Drury took full advantage of this opportunity and hit a three run home run on the first pitch he saw. Freeland would get out of the inning without further damage, and the Rockies would rally in the second when Sam Hilliard singled on the eleventh pitch of the at bat (he was the substitute for the injured Benny Montgomery) and advanced to third on a Travis Snyder single. Hilliard would then score on a fielder's choice. Garett Hampson then singled and Connor Joe doubled down the line with two down and an 0-2 count that allowed both Elias Diaz and Hampson to score. Kris Bryant followed with a single to put the Rockies out in front. Washington would tie the game in the third after Enrique Hernandez doubled and scored when Brandon Drury also doubled. Jackson Rutledge would come in to pitch the fifth and the Rockies would get the lead as his command was lacking, he loaded the bases by giving up a single to Charlie Blackmon and then hitting Sam Hilliard before walking Tyler Snyder. Elias Diaz would pop out but Garett Hampson would hit a line drive that deflected off Rutledge and allowed a run to score. The Nationals responded right away in the bottom half; Victor Robles, Kike Hernandez and Ildemaro Vargas started the inning with three straight singles to tie the game and the Rockies would turn to their bullpen. First out was Jaden Hill, who would get out of the inning and allow the Rockies to take the lead again in the sixth. Kyle Finnegan would come out of the bullpen and with one out he would hit CJ Cron, give up a double to Ryan McMahon and an RBI single to Charlie Blackmon. Sam Hilliard would then hit a sac fly and put the Rockies up 7-5. The Rockies bullpen would shut down the Nats offense and Colorado would take this game to avoid the sweep.

The Nationals have won another series, but once again cannot get the sweep. In a way, they seemed cursed and no matter how well they play; a sweep just isn’t in the cards for them. Nonetheless, they have been playing better as of late, going 6-4 in their last 10. They are getting much better production from Enrique Hernandez, who was looking lost earlier in the season. Moving Brady House to the leadoff spot and Brandon Nimmo to the bottom half of the lineup seems to be paying off for both men as well. The Nationals are still seven games below .500, but their next 20 games are against teams that are also below .500 (Mets, Cubs, Pirates, Phillies and Marlins) and that will take them right up to the All Star Break and Trade Deadline.

The roster update available now has real minor league players. There are very few (if any) fake players.

It's by no means perfect, but very useable.

I am torn, as I am looking to get my franchise rolling tomorrow night, I don't know if I want to use the CAPs for Tatis, Senga and Fujinami. Tatis more or less bothers me, I always tried to avoid using CAPS my entire time playing the show since I was in middle school.

One thing I have been possibly considering - moving Sasaki to the Mets to make up for Senga, Murakami to Padres for Tatis and then Minarik to Oakland instead of Fujinami.

So I gave up trying to wait for a patch and just accepted that my in game save file was corrupted. Basically will not stop anymore games until they are complete. So just one game lost as we start over.

Here is our opening day roster for Arizona D Backs

I picked the game up today and while I wait for the first updated roster to drop I decided to start a test franchise to just get familiar with the new scouting. While I was setting it up I saw an on/off option for non active free agents. What is a non active free agents, is this referring to legends.

Cardinals win 3 of the 4 games against the Pirates in St.Louis

The Cardinals (12-4) got their homestand started on a good note winning 3 games of a 4 game series with the Pirates at Busch Stadium over the weekend. The Cardinals now lead the Cubs and Brewers by 5 games in the NL Central.

Thursday night saw Jack Flaherty earn his second (2-1) of the season as the Cardinals took down the Pirates 6-3. Flaherty would last 7.1 innings before being lifted for Jordan Hicks after O'Neill Cruz doubled home a pair of runs cutting a 6-1 lead to 6-3. Hicks would get the final two out in the 8th and Ryan Helsley would close out his 4th game of the year. Nolan Arenado's hot bat continued as he blasted his 4th homerun of the season.

Friday was more of the same, but this time Miles Mikolas was the master on the mound. Mikolas would get thru 8 innings before being pulled after walking Bryan Reynolds to start the 9th, and hitting the 113 pitch mark. Helsley would be called upon to close it out, which he did for his 5th save of the year. Helsley would strike out the side on 12 pitches. Tyler O'Neill was the big bat in the 3-0 victory, hitting a 2 run bomb in the 5th to extend a 1-0 lead to three runs. Brandon Donovan also was hot as he continues to pace the NL in batting average hitting .405 thus far.

Saturday saw Steven Matz make his 2nd good start in a row. Matz would be pulled after 5 innings, but he recorded 9 strikeouts in those 5 innings. Unfortunately, he would give up 4 runs on 9 hits in the process. The bullpen did its job holding the Pirates to just 2 hits, and 3 total baserunners over the final 4 innings as the Cardinals would win 6-4 thanks to Dylan Carlson's 4 for 4 day with 5 RBIs.

The Cardinals were looking for the rare 4 game sweep on Sunday with Adam Wainwright on the mound, but the offense had nothing and the Pirates got timely hits to win 4-1, thus ending the Cardinals modest 5 game winning streak. Jojo Romero would be saddled with the loss as he came into a 1-1 game in the 6th and promptly gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in route to his first loss of the year.

The Cardinals will remain home as the Diamondbacks come to town for a 3 game series starting on Monday. The Cardinals will be off on Thursday as they head West for a 10 game road trip starting with 3 against the Mariners.

                            Remaining April Schedule:

                            3 @ Mariners
                            4 @ Giants
                            3 @ Dodgers

Marlins Drop 3 Of 4 To Mets, To Open Season

Having a blast so far, the challenge and lower expectations are so refreshing coming from Yankees Franchises the last several years. I’m trying to tolerate Jorge Soler until I’m at least a month or two in, already really want him gone since he’s just an okay platoon DH, but I guess he’s safe for now.

                                Opening Day: Alcantara Vs Verlander
The dual of reigning CY Young Winners lived up to the hype, with Alcantara going 6.1 innings, allowing just 1 run on 5 hits. For the Mets, Verlander went 7 strong, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, while racking up 13 K’s to Alcantara’s 9. Up 2-1, Miami broke it open in the 8th with 2 runs off David Robertson.

Mad Max was very solid, going 6 innings while giving up just 2 runs. For Miami, Luzardo was pretty sharp himself, providing 5 innings of 1 run ball. Miami would take a 2-1 lead into the 9th, before Floro and than Scott would allow New York to storm back with 4 runs, with HR’s from Alonso and Lindor, to steal the victory.
Marlins Lose 5-2. Solo HR from Jazz, an RBI from Arraez.

                                Game 3: Rogers Vs Senga
Rogers was good, only surrendering 2 runs over 6 innings, but Senga was better, only allowing one run over his 6 innings. Both teams would score two runs in the 8th, and that was that.
Marlins Lose 4-3. 2 RBI’s from Jazz, 1RBI from Segura,

                                Game 4: Cabrera Vs Quintana
A disaster. The game would rapidly spiral out of control, as Cabrera struggled mightily with his command, and by the end of the 3 inning beating, the Mets would have scored 12 runs, 9 earned on Cabrera with a few errors mixed in as the whole team imploded around him. Miami didn’t fully pack it in though, putting up a 5 run 7th to restore a little pride.
Marlins Lose 12-5. 2 RBI’s from Arraez, one each for Segura, Gurriel, and Cooper. 3 hits from Jazz.
