    BOX SCORE
    FULL GAME
    <br>
The Detroit Tigers hit three solo home runs in their 5-1 win over the Angels in game 2 of the ALDS. Tarik Skubal allowed just one run, and three hits in seven innings. He struck out six.

The Angels took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, on a 2 out double by Hunter Renfroe.

The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the 4th, on back to back solo home runs by Kyle Dutcher, and Spencer Torkelson. The game stayed that way until the bottom of the 8th, when the Tigers scored three times. Austin Meadows pinch hit for Matt Vierling, and launched a home run to right field, to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Kyle Dutcher then doubled in a run, and Teoscar Hernandez plated another on a sac fly to center.

The series shifts to Los Angeles for game 3 on Wednesday night. Michael Lorenzen pitches for the Tigers against Lucas Giolito of the Angels.

    Around the League

The Blue Jays lead the Astros 2-0 in the other ALDS. Their series also resumes Wednesday in Houston.

In the NLDS, The Pirates lead the Dodgers 2-0, and the Braves and Brewers are tied a game apiece. Both series resume Tuesday.

Re: MLB The Show 23 Franchise Mode Discussion

I’ve made it through the first two series of the season with a 3-4 record as we head to Citi Field for our home opener. This has actually been pretty fun so far, my pitching staff is awful but my offense is keeping me in games. That may change though as it looks like the cpu may have figured out that I can’t turn on a fastball and I also can’t lay off pitches up in the zone

Do you use any other swing other than Normal? Like contact / Power?
I dont think I'd be a good one to give hitting advice haha. I just finished my first season with the Pirates and am ranked 24th in team batting average .245 and 23rd in runs with 617 but maybe thats to be expected with the team's talent.

I do struggle with hitting sometimes but it seems to come around. I'd say just keep at it and hopefully youll get the results your wanting.

As far as different types of swings I almost always use regular swings...contact on a lot of two strike counts and hardly ever power swing

          2023 Pittsburgh Pirates Wildcard Preview

Pittsburgh Pirates (85-77) Vs. New York Mets (90-72)

          Season Series:
          Mets-5
          Pirates-1

          Key Injuries:
          Pirates

Pirates to face Mets in wildcard

The Pittsburgh Pirates will face the New York Mets in their 2023 Wildcard matchup. Most thought it would be the Phillies and Pirates but Philadelphia swept the Mets in the teams' last series on the regular season to snag the division title.

The Pirates also got swept in their final series against the Marlins. That Marlins team won 10 straight to end the season but still missed the final wildcard spot by one game.

The Mets really did choke away their division lead as they lost 9 straight to end the year. With both Pittsburgh and New York coming into the playoffs on a sour note, the two will battle it out to see who can right the ship with a chance to face off against those Phillies in the NLDS.

The Pirates do get their backup catcher Endy Rodriguez back after he missed significant time with injuries. Ke'Bryan Hayes looks like he could also return to the roster if Pittsburgh makes it out of the wildcard. A task that could prove to be difficult as the Mets won five of six in the season series between the two teams.

          Lets go Pittsburgh!

          Other Wildcard matchups

Playing the Nationals in the final game of the opening series and the crowd breaks out in the "MVP!" chant with Keibert Ruiz at the plate. I'm like, seriously, Keibert Ruiz?

He proceeds to go 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Nats to the win.

2023 Pittsburgh Pirates Wildcard Game 1

              Result
              Mets-4
              Pirates-1

Pirates outhit 14-4 in game one loss

Despite being the higher seed, Pittsburgh came into their wildcard matchup with the New York Mets as the underdog. Game one didn't do anything to change peoples mind as New York took the game in Pittsburgh 4-1.

Like most of the season, Pittsburgh struggled to get much going offensively as they managed just four hits against David Peterson and company while the Mets hit around the Pirates pitching staff to a tune of fourteen hits.

Despite the lack of hits, the Pirates had a few chances to put runs on the board but could just muster the one, a 5th inning rbi by Andrew McCutchen.

Brandon Nimmo (1) and Mark Canha (3) batted in the runs for New York with the biggest strike coming on a 7th inning two run shot by Canha.

Roansy Contreras was great despite the 10 hits he allowed as he also struck out seven Met hitters.

Game two will see Mitch Keller face off against future hall of famer Justin Verlander as the Pirates try to avoid elimination.

2023 Pittsburgh Pirates Wildcard game 2

                  Result:
                  Pirates-5
                  Mets-1

Pirates outhit 9-5 in game two victory

Yes, the Pirates were outhit again by the Mets in game two. But, unlike game one, Pittsburgh made their hits count. One of those hits came in the 4th inning with Andrew McCutchen clearing the bases with a three run triple to make the score at the time, 3-0.

The Mets did answer back in the 6th inning when Jeff Mcneil hit his own rbi triple.

Anthony Santander and Ji-Man Choi then added solo HRs in the 6th and 7th innings as Pittsburgh avoided the series sweep enroute to a final deciding game three on Friday.

The expected starters for the deciding game three are Rich Hill for Pittsburgh and Tylor Megill for the Mets.

                    2024 Washington Nationals

Game One: David Peterson vs Felipe Escalona
Escalona had the roughest outing of his very young career; he battled for 4.1 innings, giving up five runs on ten hits, no walks, and three strikeouts. Four of the runs came via the two home runs he gave up to Pete Alonso. Zach Davies would go 3.2 shutout innings, giving up just three hits and striking out 2. Aaron Bummer would pitch the ninth after the Nationals made it a two run game, and he would give them a fighting chance by keeping the score at 5-3, but Josh Hader would come in to close the game, and despite giving up a double to Kike Hernandez, the Nationals were unable to mount any offense off of him.

Game Two: Andrew Heaney vs MacKenzie Gore
Heaney had to leave the game with back tightness after throwing just one pitch, forcing the Mets to call in Joey Lucchesi from the bullpen. He would go 2.2 innings, giving up 6 runs on seven hits, including two solo home runs from Kike Hernandez and Brandon Drury, and a three run home run from Anthony Rizzo. Jordan Yamamoto would pitch the next 2.1 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven. Jose Quintana would be out next, and he wouldn’t finish a single at bat as he had to leave with muscle pain in his leg. Quintana has been used in three of the last four days and is in need of rest. Brad Boxberger would then pitch two innings, only allowing a walk. While the Mets sent out pitcher after pitcher, their offense came through. MacKenzie Gore kept them at bay for five innings, allowing just one run (a Pete Alonso solo shot). Gore was not very efficient with his pitches, which is why he had to leave early. The Mets would capitalize by scoring five unanswered runs off the Nats bullpen, three of which came on Alonso’s second home run of the game and fourth home run of the series. Carl Edwards Jr would go 1.2 innings, allowing just one hit while walking two (one of which was an intentional walk to Fransisco Lindor to set up the double play, which didn’t matter as Edwards struck out the next two batters to end the ninth). In the bottom of the ninth, Keibert Ruiz pinch hit for fellow catcher Wilmer Perez and hit a walk-off home run off Deolis Guerra to cap off a wild night!

Game Three: Tylor Megill vs Lucas Giolito
Prior to the game, Victor Robles was activated from the IL. Brady House has been sent back to AAA to continue to work on his mechanics.

Anthony Rizzo hit a two run home run in the first to give Washington the early lead. Rizzo would hit a solo homer to lead off the fourth, and Mitch Haniger would follow him with another solo shot. Lucas Giolito pitched great, going 6.1 innings, giving up a run on five hits, walking two and striking out four. He was smooth through six but loaded the bases in the seventh, ending his day. Victor Arano went 1.2 shutout innings and Trevor Rosenthal, despite loading the bases on three hits, would prevent the Mets from scoring and earning the save.

The Nationals sit at 23-21, which is good for third place in the division. It’s a strange season thus far, as their record is solid, and yet if you watch the on field product they seem like they won’t compete this year. The front office is bouncing back and forth between selling and buying at the trade deadline, but thankfully there are still two months of games to see what transpires.

Washington will now have an off day before Philadelphia (25-18) comes to town for a three game weekend set.

After months of uncommitted franchises, I finally have my team....

The Charlotte Knights are the newest MLB Expansion team and are taking the Nationals place in the NL East.

Roster construction for an "expansion team" is always tricky since there's no actual expansion mode but here were my house rules.

                      1) Players sitting in Free Agency are eligible
                      2) Any player who has been DFA'd this year is eligible
                      3) To create my inaugural draft class, I allowed myself 10x signings from the AI generated players in the free agent pool when you launch franchise. I allowed myself 1x A potential player, 1x B potential player, 5x C potential players, and then 3x D potential players.

                      Opening Day Roster
                      Pitching Staff

SP - Madison Bumgarner (Mad Bum is from a small town in NC and he heads home for what may be his final season)
SP - Chris Archer (Another NC native who hopefully sells some tickets)
                      SP - Kwang-Hyun Kim
                      SP - Zach Plesac
                      SP - Dallas Keuchel

BP: Chris Flexen, Steven Brault, Phil Bickford, Dinelson Lamet, Corey Knebel, Zack Birtton, Ken Giles

                      Lineup
                      1. Raimel Tapia // CF
                      2. Wil Meyers // RF (another NC native)
                      3. Luke Voit // 1B
                      4. Franmil Reyes // DH
                      5. Yoenis Cespedes // LF (storyline I'm going with is that he showed out in the WBC and wants one last ride in MLB. I'll probably do a random number generator once a month to see if he randomly leaves the team)
                      6. Dee Gordon // 2B
                      7. Mike Moustakas // 3B
                      8. Gary Sanchez // C
                      9. Andrelton Simmons // SS

Bench: Yermin Mercedes, Bobby Bradley, Jonathan Villar, Jackie Bradley Jr, Jonathan Schoop

I have just wrapped up playing every pitch of Spring Training with S&Bs slider set. This team is going to stink. It's going to be a grind. But, we are committed to building a championship team in Charlotte.

I sunk like 30 hours into building this stadium. Charlotte is ready for Opening Day!

2023 Pittsburgh Pirates wildcard game 3

                          Result
                          Mets-6
                          Pirates-1

Pirates eliminated after lackluster offensive performance

Rich Hill was pretty great in what could be the last game of his career. He started game three of the win or go home game against the Mets and did well. His seven innings and 10 strikeouts were both the most by a Pirates starter in the series but unfortunately, the offense could not backup that performance.

In fact, Pittsburgh was just about no hit and shutout by New York's starter, Tylor Megill who allowed just one hit into the 9th inning. In that ninth when he was completely gassed, Pittsburgh did manage two more hits and a run to at least avoid the shutout.

The Mets were fueled by two homeruns by Eric Haase and a solo HR by Francisco Lindor when he went back to back with Haase in the 8th inning.

Although the Pirates season is now over, Pirate-faithful have to be proud of a team who increased their win total by 23 games over last season. There are many questions for the team going into the offseason as they will likely look to make a run at some big players to get the offense up to par.

So...it didn't happen, the going back and re-doing.

I got about 2 weeks into the offseason (free agency) and couldn't get passed the fact of guys signing elsewhere than when they did the first go around, so I'm back to spring training of my original franchise. I'll eventually get hooked on this team.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

It's wild how many markets I'm blacked out of in NC (Cincinnati, Baltimore, Washington DC, and Atlanta). Praying for an actual team someday haha. I'm a Cubs fan and when they go on a Southeast road trip, the'll go Cincy, DC/Baltimore, and then down to ATL. I can't watch for like 10 days haha. Damn blackout rules.

That's ridiculous, but not surprising. I hate blackout rules with a passion. I'm guessing the next expansion (or the Brewers/Rays moving) will see a team in Nashville, that seems to be the consensus...which I'm sure they would be blacked out too.
