Re: MLB The Show 24 Impact Plays and Improvements to Player Faces

Finally got around to watching the gameplay. It's hard to tell if the updated faces are in that or not. It somewhat appears they are, but they were still pretty lacking. The rest of the game, it just looks mediocre at best. It looks like an early PS4 game that is still using a lot of PS3 assets. And, that's because that's what it basically is.

Now, maybe the updated shaders were not in the video nor was the updated lighting, so when we see something that has confirmation those items are in, it may look much better, but going off solely what SDS themselves gave us, it's mostly the same disappointing experience graphically.

There's such a contrast in the quality of gameplay on the field despite some of the dated animations and the quality of the graphics. That contrast is hurting the experience more and more each year. And, I am not even some graphics-first guy. I often find myself playing games that are 15-20 years old more than I play modern games, so I can handle dated graphics, and it certainly does not keep me from playing The Show, but it is fair to discuss how lacking the game is in the department.

As I have said countless times over the years, if a developer is going to charge me AAA prices, I am going to hold them to AAA standards. Hopefully when we get some news about Franchise mode they have made some substantial improvements because to this point the game looks like this may be the year with the most stagnation yet.

Maybe you are browsing the hitter’s quirks to see what they are. Then maybe you look over to the runner to make sure he doesn’t have a big lead. So all that will take time and you have to watch for the clock.

I don’t think you can really have a batter clock.
I think the question also becomes, what happens if as the batter you are holding down the button to see the pitch history for this at bat or something. Will the timer pause? Will it continue to run? If I pull up my bullpen menu while hitting does it still run?

I honestly don't think the pitch clock is needed in the game in my opinion.

100% where I fall. If this game were only $30 every year I would be more than satisfied with the level of improvement we get every year. There's just not enough to justify the $70 IMO. And that isn't really SDS's fault, there's only so much that can be done these days in a 9 month dev cycle, and I doubt they are the ones deciding the pricing. But regardless whose fault it is, if I'm being charged $70, I'm going to hold it to a higher standard.

I completely agree with your last part. This game does not need it as the Pitch clock was put in to stop the wasting of time. This game allows you to play as fast or slow as you want. I don't know too many that would take advantage of the clock. That being said, perhaps it does have a place in the Online portion of the game. I don't play online but perhaps this may help things.

They didn’t lead with this because they want the attention of potential new customers first. Then they give these kinds of details to the more serious player of their game since they know we’re already paying attention.

I’m honestly shocked they updated this stuff and very happy to see it. Went from skipping to almost certainly buying it now.

When has the Show ever had a problem pitching the ball within the :30 second amount? I feel they throw the next pitch relatively quickly.

Do people want pitchers to take longer between pitches? I guess I am confused.

Even the :15 second with a runner on would never be a problem.

The disengagements by the pitcher I get.
Agreed. Only thing I can think of is they have a sort of Madden model where it’s an accelerated clock, or an option for one at least. Otherwise the game has never had issues with beating any sort of pitch clock timer.

I'd say from the clips they are showing on the Ratings Reveal Special that faces are noticeably improved.

(Are they all perfect? No. Would they all be perfect if there wasn't a Women's story mode? No.)

I’ll agree that from a gameplay stand point the pitch clock isn’t needed. Most humans are going to pitch quicker than that and the cpu is programmed to pitch faster than that. The same however could be said for the play clock in Madden or the shot clock in 2K. A little bit of apples to oranges I’ll grant you but as a different company once said “if it’s in the game it’s in the game” that’s all I’m asking for.

And if it’s not in the game I guess that’s ok but what I really don’t want is for it be only halfway implemented. Even if the cpu never goes over the clock I want it to be there when they’re pitching and not just when I’m pitching.

I’m fine without the pitch clock in the game. It just isn’t really an issue as an offline player. At best it would be a fun wrinkle.

If there’s a compelling reason to implement it, it’s online play. Though it might actually be worse to get slowly walked by your AFK opponent than having the game force him to groove fastballs so you can take BP. Maybe the fix there would be that a certain number of consecutive pitch clock violations automatically causes a forfeit.

def can see the improvement they made on the faces, props to them for that, wish they would do the same for the fields when it comes to dirt, grass and any ballpark that has water.

Agree 100%. The images look great, but they're from an edit face screen. And the blog post clearly says they are most noticeable from that screen. In the gameplay video, I see very little difference, if any.

For all Tigers fans, during the ratings stream, they finally have the back bullpen walls in left field at Comerica Park orange! They didn't show us right field but it gives me hope that the bushes were fixed [emoji3526]

I only saw Torkelson and Skubal. They didn't show Kerry unless I missed it somehow. I hope he does though, he looked terrible last year [emoji23] Tigers uniform does have the Meijer patch on the sleeves

I believe pitch clock is in game. It's in a video in one of the other threads on the new score bug.
