Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
Well i finished TA just by doing team builds and a mini seasons run and im kinda burnt out with nothing big coming up and the same ole same ole programs . I have been using an all Cards team for Ranked whenever i get time to play full games and thats been fun but its definitely lacking this year. so i decided to mess around with what i guess would be my God squad and i think its pretty solid might make some changes but i like it so far. It lines up like this
RF Acuna
DH 99Blackmon
1B 99 Mcgwire the new one
3B 99 Devers ( could switch this one around)
LF 99 Stanton (might change this one also havent figured his swing out yet)
2B 99 J-Ram
SS 99 Mookie
C 99 Adley
CF 99 lightining J-Rod
bench
99 Jackie
99 Ketel
99 Brandon Crawford
99 Wyatt Langford ( probably replace Stanton soon )
rotation
99 Nolan Ryan
99 Dustin May
99 New Kershaw
99 Mulder
99 Skenes
( i already have John D to P5 so wanting to try more ppl out)
bullpen
99 Helsley
97 Hentges ( needed another lefty)
97 Hoffman
97 Mo
95 Jo Jo romero ( noone uses him i dont see and his release can be funky)
99 Franco
99 Billy Wagner
99 Trevor Rosenthal
anyone have comments or suggestions ? and before ya say it , i don't have stubs even close for TroutComment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
I got my 20 wins for smoltz and sold him for 110k...so after trout i'm still back up to 525k
haven't touched the monthly program yet, two weeks behind topps now, haven't touched BR, I accidentally got like 2 cards from chase of 98 by just playing...
I feel like this recent event was toxic and a pain, didn't really enjoy it so not overly motivated to start BR. I want britton but I might just mindlessly work on the offline stuff in all the conquest maps.
Haven't even used my 800k trout yet...I think I'm going to use him in all my TA grinds to justify my expense.
I'm getting a little behind but have so many stubs and a stacked team where I could upgrade whenever I want. I might just rock some casual offline 9 inning games to work on my skills for a while, not sure where to go with the game.Comment

You can tell that enthusiasm is decreasing as the lower-end card flipping market is dying out. Just not as many transactions anymore, presumably from losing players to other games.

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
Gonna be kind've pissed if another core collection comes out because I'll have all the core cards except for current BR....but yeah. I think giving us the high end 99's was initially cool but it defeated the purpose of the grind on anything when our squads are already overly stacked.
I've noticed content creators have barely been putting stuff out in season 4 too.
I'm still playing but I don't really need kluber/betts/foxx...none of them except for maybe kluber (whom I want the least) would make my current god squad until set 3 guys get removed. So I have no rush to get betts/foxx. I have carroll/mantle/trout in OF and elly at 2b...I have acuna on the bench. What am I going to do with betts?
Just no incentive to really be hardcore about anything right now unfortunately.Comment

This forum reflects the game....I feel like 2 or 3 years ago this was getting updated constantly...most of the whole year this forum has been pretty dead.
I mindlessly knocked out the topps now stuff earlier today. I think I'm around 85ish cards unlocked. Slow moving.Comment

I've been playing Madden lately , just havent wanted to keep doing the mindless grind honestly . i finished Ta and unlocked Mookie but just havent really wanted to play alot and i think ill really show my bias here but the Cardinals suck and not having alot of cards to get and that has also put me in the mood of not wanting to play. I know that's a crappy thing to say but its true ,maybe they will get me back if they give out a Waino card for his 200th Win but other than that i just dont feel like ill come back and only play this like i usually do especially since Madden feels really good so far . Im doing just franchise and brought back the football cardinals to st louis so its been really fun so far .Comment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
It's the same content over and over...just for different cards with different artwork. Frankly, the program structures are consistent to a fault...loads of pedantic moments, a showdown, a conquest map, and some various missions. Team affinity...same exact structure...every single time. Shoot, Topps Now is the worst...the same exact grind for cards "no one" will want except for collection fodder (and I am saying that as someone who rarely even uses 99s).
With the season/set structure...we're now re-earning many of the same players...over and over again...just with slightly different ratings/artwork. So, the excitement of finally getting that (insert player name) card to earn is washed away.
When you couple that with the redundant program structure (which has been an issue for the last several years - since Moments came out in '19), SDS is making it really hard for people to want to stick with the mode all year.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

I actually mostly enjoy the moments, but constantly re-earning the same players with randomly different attributes every season or two is definitely getting a little stale.

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
Put differently, when I first started playing DD (In MLB 18), there were no moments; everything was built around in-game missions. So you could earn progress on SO many things at one time, it was fantastic. Now, the downside was that you were nearly always using a "grind team" and that's where I think SOME Moments could be useful in evening it out a bit.Last edited by JoshC1977; 09-21-2023, 11:06 AM.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
For me, the distilled down version of issues with DD is we spend more time using players we don't really want to earn other players we mostly don't want and less time incentivized to use the players we want to use.

The one small bit of silver lining is that one CAN find some gems of guys you might not normally even try out (the Joe Carter, Bobby Witt, and Eddie Rosario from TA4 really stand out to me).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: What Are You Working On? - MLB The Show 23 Edition
I think there will always be some degree of this in any CC mode, but I definitely agree that DD goes overkill with it. Even for offline-only players, I think content should be crafted in such a manner that players are spending at least 50% of their time (and preferably higher than that) using their preferred roster. In DD, I feel like it's barely 5% of the time....

They're just all out of whack. Why aren't the main program rewards Captains? If the Chase McGwire was a captain that boosted the entire program and series cards it would add immense value to those lower rates cards
