To people who find themselves on the basepaths alot and like to steal, I find myself getting picked off ALOT. What controls do you guys use? And also how much of a lead do you guys take. Seems like getting a big lead is impossible since the pitch we almost always throw to first.

I take one step and lean towards 2nd. I stole 25 bases out of 38 chances in 82 games my rookie year of AA. So I got caught a lot, but I was second in the league in stolen bases. To people who find themselves on the basepaths alot and like to steal, I find myself getting picked off ALOT. Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Well...Finally made it to the BIGS with my guy!
Signed a 2yr bullpen role for 500,000...(Im in year 4, 22yrs old) and my cutter/curveball combo is just dazzling these guys during ST
Im hitting 95 with my cutter on the hands...Just filthy! Then when they get comfortable I hit em with a changeup on the corners. It shouldn't be long until I'm a starter! Then Im gonna make the Orioles pay top dollar for my services, haha.

I got one game in and cruised through that one. Played the second game and was cruising in that one. Got to the third inning and got the leadoff man to ground out then there it goes. My guy is rotating his arm around in a way that doesn't look good. INJURED! ELBOW TIGHTNESS. I'm not going on the DL but I might miss a start. Wow this stinks. While shakedown is up there living the dream I'm down here in double A hell.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
My first big league game wasn't peachy
Struck out Melky and Cano...Then Tex hit a double and Nady to me out of the yard! Going against the AL East is gonna be a bitch! They should give extra bonus points shutting down these lineups!
It's my curveball. I no longer have control of it! The break on it is insane and I have to find the right breaking points. These dudes are laying off of it and are just teeing off on my change-up.Last edited by Shakedowncapo; 03-09-2009, 01:24 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
At the AS break my first year still struggling, but showing some signs that I might start hitting.
However Cleveland has put me on the trade block.

Here are my stats at the break. Not good.

I am really enjoying the challenge this year. So much tougher than previous years.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I think my manager was a pimp in another life. Dude keeps feeding me this line about how I got the stuff to move up but need to stay in AA just a little longer. I don't know why they didn't trade me for a 3rd baseman when they had the chance. They need someone one on the hot line more than they need me. Dude is an error machine. Well actually they do have me on the block, or did have me on the block but nobody wanted me
I guess. Can't get up, out or to the side. I'm just stuck with this wack squad.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I threw a complete game shutout (500+ training points) in AA, then the coach took me out of the starting rotation (even though one starter is 1-10). I was a long releiver, and that sucks. I only came in when the team was losing, and never pitched more than 3 innings. I told the coach I wanted back in the starting rotation, so he told me he would give me one chance.
I had a shutout going into the ninth. The leadoff batter hit a double, and the coach pulled me. The guy who came in let the guy score, so 8 innings, 1 run.
I am also getting the coach telling me I am not ready for AAA, but that is fine with me. I am still the worse pitcher in the organization rankings wise, but I am starting to walk my way up stats wise. I am 4th on the All-Star voting.
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
So a quick update on my progress. Haven't played much since the last update, but finished out the 2010 season.
We left off with me giving the Marlins the finger and asking for a trade, heading to the Orioles organization via trade and playing for the Bowie Baysox for a weekend before getting a call up to AAA Norfolk.
I started out on fire with Norfolk and continued that pace through the end of the season. While I wasn't a full time starter I was playing in almost every game (either pinch hitting or pinch running), and getting two or three starts a week (usually one or two at SS and then another at 3B).
Hitting wise my guy turned the corner and I finished the season (about a month in AAA) hitting .343. I also had one of my best games ever ...
4 for 5, with a HR and double, 2 SB, 3 RBI. Between the performance, goals, fielding and a 5 game hitting streak I netted like 150 training points in the game while getting my first "Player of the Game" nod.
I have also gotten to the point where my guy is a terror on the base paths (65 speed). In a month I had 10 stolen bases against getting caught 4 times, and finished out the season with five straight attempts without getting caught.
All while playing some pretty good defense at SS and 3B.
The hard work got me put on the 40-man roster and I received an invite to spring training with the big club. Ideally i'd love to have a good spring, get named the starter in AAA and get a season under my belt before being a Sept. callup, but we'll see how things go.If you can read this, you don't need glasses.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Last night I had a start that left me feeling like demanding a trade. First inning 1 out facing the number 2 hitter. I hit my spot he hits a one hopper to the SS. My SS throws the ball over the 1B head. He gets the ball and promptly throws the ball into LF, now the runner is a 3rd one out. 3rd guy grounds out to the 2B, run scores and last guy strikes out. Pitched 7 innings giving up 3 hits and 1 unearned run. My offense produces 2 hits while I'm pitching and no runs. I take the loss on a 2 base error in the 1st damn inning.
No pictures, or video yet because I am at work now. But it will make the blog tonight or tomorrow. On a positive I've dropped my ERA from a touch over 3.30 back down to 2.97.Moderator

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
In 2010 I got promoted to AAA, but I'm still the LRP. Ugh, I hate long relief, I can't get into any sort of rhythm. Plus when you hop into games so often you never know the mindset of the player and your meter will go at different speeds.
I'm pitching better though, and hope to eventually earn my way up to a spot in the rotation.
One thing I wanted to ask about CPU fielder reactions. On a line drive over the 2b's head, sometimes the outfielder doesn't back him up, just kinda lollygagging and the ball ends up going in the gap almost to the wall because he didn't take the right angle. Anyone else notice this? I'm wondering if it's just my fielders, or something else? I'd think the outfielder would go to cut the ball off, not let it get past him.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Alright, I haven't posted on here much, but read alot. Especially this thread. Since I'm having so much fun with my RTTS and reading all yours I thought I would put my career on record for all to enjoy as well.
A couple notes. This is my first year with "The Show". I've always bought 2k in the past and have had enough of their bad games and taking my money. Also, my career is on All-Star with pitch speed down two notches and CPU contact and Vision also down a notch each.
I created a SP with 4 seamer, 12-6 curve, and changeup. Didn't worry about adding any points to hitting or fielding and all completely on pitching prior to getting drafted. I ended up getting drafted by the Rangers in teh 5th round. Obviously didn't do much in ST and got sent down in MRP for the AA team.
The first year was tough. Not only was I getting use to the game, but just didn't do all that well. I barely increased in overall rating, but managed to get my 4 seamer to work really well for me already hitting 94 mph consistantly. My hits and HR's were high, but not unexpected. Towards the end of the 1st season the club lets me know that they aren't interesed in renewing my contract, so I'm heading to FA. Well only one team offered to sign me, The Rangers... And I got signed on for more than my past contract. Only this time I signed a two year deal instead of only a one year deal.
Season two goes better. I'm automaticly sign as a SP for AA. I do so well that I get seleted to start the AA All-Star game and then get promoted up to AAA shortly after for a LRP role. I finish off the 2nd Season in AAA with around a 3.5 ERA. Again, lots of hits and a few HR's with about half as many SO as IP. I've acquired a fourth pitch, a slider. Control is a big factor for me, but my potential is still an A. I guess I'm taking the slow development route instead of the fast one.
I just started my third season. I unfortunately didn't get another ST invite and start off as the #4 SP for AA. But after only a few weeks got sent up to AAA and am the #5 SP for AAA. I'm holding my own and doing well. My pitches have better control but my rating is still only D for control. Stamina is around 78 right now and my potential is still an A. I'm just below average according to my scouting, but I got a message that they would like to move me up to The Show, but don't have room on the 40 man roster to clear waivers and such. I'm thinking of requesting a trade, but really the organization has been good to me. I've met most goals, although they are rediculously hard. I have other attributes decreasing because I'm having to spend so many points to reach my goals. My Fastball now fluctuates from 90-94.
Here's the kicker though, I'm only making 37K as a Starting Pitcher for AAA. My contract sucks!
