Twiz, please don't think I'm asking all these questions just to somehow "disprove" what you're seeing/experiencing. I'm asking to see if maybe there is something you're doing that's causing the blowups or if there is a pattern in the game that may be causing the "comeback ai" option to somehow and for some reason to kick in, even when set to off.

No you can't pitch like that everytime you have to mix it up, throw one up high out of the strike zone or in the dirt in other words set the batter up with pitches he can't reach.Comment

No thats just K-Rod being K-Rod lol Being an Angel fan I'm glad to see him leave. But seriously I've been having the same problems mentioned in this thread and I play on veteran and still see it. Same story every game, Starter pitches 7 solid innings and the pen comes in and blows it or makes it entirely to close. My last 10 games have all been a 1 or 2 run game
Sounds like normal bullpen tendencies to me.
On a serious note, relievers most of the time are relievers because they are not good enough to be starters.
What I noticed I had to do, was totally pitch differently than I have ALL GAME with my starter. They are not starters, they are not as good as starters, so my mindset, trickery, etc has to change. I have had fantastic results with that, and no out of the ordinary "comback ai" scoring. When I screwed up, I knew I screwed up.
I think some are falling into the trap and not adjusting to a less than starter quality pitcher, with AI batters that learned your tendencies, and you are getting shelled for it.
Let me say something, they made the game pretty damn realistic with this approach. And there is a reason that league averages for relievers are several points higher with shorter innings than starters in real life.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

I found in my last game and I may be wrong. But the umpire in this last game was not calling a strike a strike. If I was pitching up in the zone he would call it a ball, but if I pitched up, (but out of the zone) he called it a strike. Same for low pitches, inside and outside. So I'm guessing the ump in some games plays a big part in your success in the strike zone. Its just a guess however.Comment

No both KRod and Putz was rested. What really pissed me off was Livan Hernandez was pitching a 3 hit shutout through 7 and I took him out because he was drained. Putz came in, in the 8th quickly got the first 2 outs, then gave up a bomb, then k'd the next batter. In the 9th KRod came in and on a 0-2 count hit the batter, then a double, k'd the next batter, then gave up a 3 run bomb. game over. I've brought him in twice and each time he blew the save.Comment

Meaning that there are guys who just pitch better in short "bursts" because they don't do as well holding back their pitches over the course of a game. So they come in for an inning or two and go balls-to-the-wall.
More on topic, one other thing I've noticed is bringing in a reliever/closer with similar repetoire to the starter and pitching in a similar fashion can hurt you here as well.
None of this is to make any claims about anyone's play (or saying it even applies in some of these cases), BTW...just spitballin' hereComment

Yeah, that's a big part of it. There's a couple umps who squeeze the ever-lovin' outta ya...lol. Drives me nuts (in a good way...if that makes sense).
The tough part for me is there are a couple who have a "floating" strikezone...meaning they don't call an AB the same way twice. This can make it doubly hard to adapt to the calls behind the dish, IMO.Comment

The one game I was talking about with Livan Hernadez pitching 7 scoreless innings, then I brought Putz in and let him gas it for his inning although he gave up the one bomb. The last inning I bring KRod in and tried to set the batters up with his fastballs out of the zone and trying to get them out with his curve ball and off speed pitches and he still blew both games he's been in.Comment

I used to thik it was almost guarenteed that the CPU had these two out rallies, until this happened: Playing against the Twins in the top of the 8th. The get a back-to-back basehits, so there's runners on 1st and 3rd. Then John Danks battles with Morneau to strike him out, ending the inning. It's not impossible, just a little harder to get outs. I personally like it.Comment

I ask, because I've forgotten about the reliever change in that respect before and mistakenly kinda "cruised" on the memory of my starter's confidences...lol.Comment

That's partially true. I think for more elite relievers, it's more a matter of endurance/control over a stretch than pure skill level in comparison.
Meaning that there are guys who just pitch better in short "bursts" because they don't do as well holding back their pitches over the course of a game. So they come in for an inning or two and go balls-to-the-wall.

Very true, and I think people are getting too relaxed with their starter cruising, and not adjusting properly with their relievers. The hitter they are going against, clutch, confidence, etc.
It wasn't till I myself made the proper adjustments to how I approached the hitters with my relievers, I was able to notice where I was going wrong. And thus the game had no sign of "cheating".Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

If I'm not mistaken, Livan had very high confidences, but he was totally drained I believe he threw like 85 or so pitches. I can't swear to Putz and KRod but both were well rested.Comment

Yeh, I agree with Enigma people are getting too comfortable with their starters. It's easy to do when their crusing. When you watch a game a starting pitcher does usually hit a wall basically meaning hes pretty much done and thats when he needs to be pulled. I started pulling pitchers earlier and thats when I started realizing I was wrong on being skeptical about the coming back. Good to see everyone talking just baseball again guys!!!!!!!!!Comment
