Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
Well, I tried my first game with comeback on (on veteran) and it seemed to work just fine for me!!!
I was the Cubs playing the Orioles and Zambrano was on fire, below minimum pitches. But EVERY time I scored, no matter how many runs, the CPU suddenly went nuts the next inning and tied it up before Zambrano went back to being unhittable.
In the bottom of the 8th I went ahead 6-4 but then surprise surprise the CPU hit a 3 run homer on the last out in the top of the ninth and then their closer shut me down 1,2,3.
It's only one game but the comeback AI seemed far more obvious and noticable to me. The CPU went from being utterly incompetent to a team of MVP's in one inning, and always right after I'd scored.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
I've been following this thread for a while now, or should I say ever since I came to the realization that working your butt off at the plate to put together a 2-3 run inning was pointless in waaay to many cases. The seemingly scripted cpu "big half inning" immediately afterwards was driving me crazy, so I decided to turn cpu comeback ON and here are my results in a nutshell:
Was 18-31 in my Dodgers franchise with it OFF on default All Star. When my losses started to mount in much the same frustrating fashion each game, I started to keep count. At this point I was 5-13 with most of those 13 losses coming at the hands of an early 2-3 run lead from a big inning on my part, only to watch the cpu rip me a new during their half of the inning to retake the lead. Heck, I even had pitchers ripping me for doubles down the line! Of my next 18 losses, I counted 14!.....14 games where the exact same scenario played out each time, the only thing that varied from game to game were the innings in which it happened. Also, in those losses it was never a case where the cpu followed up with another big inning, it was always just one big half inning to get the lead back then things seemingly went back to normal. In my few wins during this span, all my wins were by 1 or 2 runs and were the hardest 1 or 2 run wins I've ever experienced.
Things changed DRAMATICALLY when I turn cpu comeback ON. I am currently now 39-43. As someone posted earlier in this thread, "the handcuffs seemingly came off." No more seemingly scripted half innings by the cpu. I was able to hold leads during this 21-12 stretch and was actually able to put together a small 5 game win streak, something I could never think about doing while it was "OFF". In the games where the CPU won, they either just outright blew me out, or put together a few solid innings to beat me. Never was the case where the cpu would turn it on for a half inning to get the lead, then shut it off for the rest of the game.
This thread has reminded me of the debate that was had over Clutch Factor in NBA 2K8 and whether it had an impact over the entire game whereas the developers stated that it only impacted a close game at the end for the cpu. Many, myself included, swore by it's impact over an entire game, naysayers called it the infamous placebo effect. With MLB the Show 09, I've seen enough positive change with cpu comeback set to ON, that I'm a believer.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
OK I played about 23 games with Comeback ON on All-Star and Im not seeing much of a difference anymore. If Im up big the computer all seems to get the game close and I stop hitting. Last game I was pitching with CC Sabathia and jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. All of a sudden I stopped hitting. CC was cruising through 6 innings and I was thinking this is cool, no comeback and CC has a 1 hitter going. 7th inning comes and you can tell right away this would be the inning they comeback cuz the first guy I cant throw a strike to save my life, even if I throw it down the plate. CC gives up 3 runs and I get out of the inning. I ended up winning 5-4. Not only that but Mariano has pitched 9 games and given up 6 runs.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
While I support this thread and it's findings this makes me wonder a bunch. I had the exact same record on my Dodgers franchise and it was wearing me out.
I got fed up one day and played a franchise with the Red Sox.
I effing crushed the ball everywhere and hit 5 jacks. I killed the CPU but 8 runs in the first game with the same exact settings. I thought it was a fluke but kept playing through five games. Each game I raked like I did last year and saw no oddities with the CPU mirroring me. This entranced me so I fired up my Dodgers Franchise again. I thought I had found my stroke.
The Dodgers were right back to hitting like girls and I felt like I was on Legend setting. The CPU would crush and rally I had with an immediate comeback. Damn , now I was getting pissed.
I fire up an Oakland franchise figuring they are middle of the road and all.
I raked. Giambi hit 5 homers in 5 games and I was undefeated in the first two series. Damn now I am getting even madder at my Dodgers. I go back to them.
Once again zero energy and not a solid hit to be found getting dominated every single game. I was so upset I wanted this game gone. I deleted all the saves and cache from my HDD and re installed it again.
So far at all star default my Dodgers are at 500 through April headed to may. The game plays entirely differently and I dont feel cheated yet.
Very odd has my time with this years game been to say the least. I think there is a glitch or something in the code that changed the difficulty level or breaks it or something. I cant put my finger on it exactly and I am unable to suplicate it again. It would explain while it seems that 50/50 people say they either have problems or they dont though and I thought I would add it into the thread after seeing some of these stories.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
I think the comeback AI is might be in your head if you think about it. In baseball, there are comebacks and late-inning rallies because not all bullpens are great.
Now, I should play as a team with a good bullpen, the Padres are horrible so maybe that's why I end up blowing a lot of leads.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
Please.
Notice the 4 run difference. Dont wish to argue but unless someone can blow out the CPU on a regular basis by 5 or more on ANY diff level I fail to see how it is conducive to squashing thought of a glitch.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
I can blow out the CPU quite regularly my friend, i won the previous game 9-3.
Sometimes the CPU will come back on me, sometimes it wont, when it does its often my fault for poor pitch selection and timing on the meter, guess what, comebacks happen a lot in real life too so i chalk it down to that now, regardless of the initial reservations i had earlier in this thread.Comment

Peavy... Padres... you know, they don't exactly have a great offense so to score 5 runs is an achievement with this ballclub.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
It has nothing to do with bullpens most of the time. You could put up 5 runs in the top of the first inning, and have a stud pitcher on the mound, and before you know it, the CPU will have cut the lead to 5-4 with some easy 1st inning runs on rocket shots.I think the comeback AI is might be in your head if you think about it. In baseball, there are comebacks and late-inning rallies because not all bullpens are great.

My last 2 games I have jumed out to 2-0 and 4-0 games in the first inning and held those leads until the 5th and 6th innings. I went on to win both games 7-2 and 7-1. Both of these were with comebacks set to off I have yet to have the computer score and me feel like they are cheating. I have hit a homerun in one half of an inning just to have the cpu answer with one of their own but that happens in real baseball its not cheating. I have had back and forth games blowouts both ways pitchers duels, losing streaks, winning streaks and never once has any of it felt cheap if I gave something up its because I screwed up and missed my spot or threw a bad sequence of pitches. This game will kill you if you don't play smart or just simply lose focus for a few pitches and that's something that makes it truely great. Now as I have said before I am not saying anyone on here are liars or that they suck I am just pointing out that I have yet to have any problems like this at all. I would like to hear from vets of the show such as jim, knight, nemesis to see their thoughts on this.BCS Express - TCU (yr 1 12-1)(yr 2 10-2)
