Yeah, I can see it making a difference for something like base running ability. But I'm talking about something like plate discipline. The way I'm thinking is that I could bump that attribute up to max and it won't make a bit of difference if I swing at stuff out of the zone all the time. Likewise I could have it down real low and still get walks if I've got a good eye as a user. This is all assuming you don't sim games in RTTS, which I haven't been.

Re: Community Day Questions, Answers, and Impressions
Is there an offine playoff format/tourney feature this year? For example can I choose 8 teams (or less) and run an offline tourney similar to how the playoffs in MLB is run? A playoff bracket is what I'm wondering. I know I can just play a best out of 7 in exhibition mode but the fact that pitchers fatigue won't be accounted for bothers me. If I do 7 seperate exhibition games then the same RP could technically pitch in all 7 games. If it has been added this year will there be a "playoff atmosphere" at the ballparks?
I know I'm in the minority here but I play exhibition mode exclusively. I don't have time or interest in Franchise--just playing with one team for a whole season would bore me. I'm a pitching fanatic and love using and batting against pitchers in both leagues, especially if their deliveries are depicted like their real life counterparts. What I prefer to do is play exhibition games along side the real and current MLB season. So if there are intriging match up on the MLB schedule (May 8th let's say) like the Phils (Halladay) vs. the Cardinals (Carpenter) I prefer to play the game the same night as the real match up.
Any insight would be appreciatedPSN: bronk14Comment

"High discipline makes checked swings easier to execute and is a factor increasing walks"
Now, one of those things can definitely happen with a user-controlled team - the fact that it improves checked swings means that it has a use to the user who plays all his games.
The other part is a bit more ambiguous - factor for increasing walks. This would certainly have its impact in a simmed game, but there's only two ways it could really have an effect in a played game. One - if it affects the CPU pitcher's strategy. If a high-discipline hitter made the pitcher pitch more cautiously, that could certainly be a factor in increased walks. On that note, know that discipline goes up every time you take a ball in RTTS batting practice.
The other is a bit more of a reach - if it affected the calls you get from umpires. This is all just my own speculation beyond the checked-swing effect, of course.
While I'm at it, here's the entry for steal frequency (yes, that's what it's called in the guide, though it's pretty clear it's the same as aggressiveness: )
"High steal frequency allows a baserunner to steal effectively even with an alert defense. These runners rely on skill more than surprise, and can remain effective even when stealing a second time in a game or frequently over several games"Comment

Re: Community Day Questions, Answers, and Impressions
I have a question...after seeing something very, very interesting playing MLB 09 for those that are always interested in uniform issues with the game (like myself).
So...I'm using Knight's classic rosters ('86 Mets) and I'm playing on the road. I like to be as real as possible so I keep selecting the throwback jerseys. On this particular occasion, I forgot...and it was the Mets typical road grays.
As has been stated by myself, the Mets road grays in the game are accompanied by the all-black helmets when it should be the black-blue helmets. The black jersey has the reverse problem. So...I'm assuming this is just an MLB Style Guide issue.
HOWEVER.....
Because Knight's classic rosters don't include the Cool-Flo helmets that many teams wear now but the older version...this issue DID NOT OCCUR with the Mets road grays. In other words, the black-blue helmets were there!
I know this probably means very little to anyone...but I found this really interesting.Comment

Reduced jogging/suction in Catch Region when catching fly balls?
This was one of my biggest (only) gripes in 08 & 09; I posted this last year and was wondering if anyone knew if it had been fixed/improved this year...
Whenever there's a fly ball to the outfield it's the most noticeable. I run over with my outfielder, and as soon as he gets close to the edge of the Catch Region, he slows down to a "jog", like he's running in slow motion, and pretty much automatically catches the ball. It's a sort of "suction" effect that limits your control of the fielder and turns the whole Catch Region into a molasses pit.
Is there an option anywhere for less assisted fielding? I'm really hoping for full control of my fielder, without this automatic animation slowdown and suction-like assist from previous years."60% of the time, it works every time."Comment

Miller Park Question..
I know that Miller Park just recently added the Kalahari Splash Zone, in which Bernie Brewer slides down the Home Run slide, and once he hits it, water sprays out from the landing. Just wondering if something this small would have been added? I for one, didn't really know we had it until just recently. I searched for any thread/posts about this, but could find nothing, sorry if there was one I missed, I'm a newbie!Cheers!

Re: Community Day Questions, Answers, and Impressions
I am sure this has probable already been talked about but here we go. Would it be possible or even a viable concept to have a contest or drawing or something like that between SCEA and OS for a member of this forum to "Win" an invite to community day with the OS staff that gets to go. I personally think that would be awesome but probably not workable, what do you guys think? In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

I doubt it.CD serves a very specific purpose for SCEA (i.e. focus testing), and they apparently hand pick the participants based on their knowldege and experience with specific aspects of the game. I doubt they would leave the selection of a CD participant up to chance...especially when I'm sure the pay all the travel expenses.
It would be pretty sweet though to find a golden ticket and see all the Umpa Lumpa at work.Last edited by Woodweaver; 02-18-2010, 10:36 AM."Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"Comment

Re: Community Day Questions, Answers, and Impressions
I'm not reading all 300 pages so forgive me if this has been addressed. I"m really looking forward to this game a ton, seems as if March 2nd will never get here. I can't even play '09 anymore after seeing the '10 videos, '09 just doesn't seem like a good game anymore. I want '10 in the worst way!
Anyway, I'm most interested in what they did with the franchise mode. Mainly how are budgets this year? Do we have payroll restrictions like real teams do? Last year I pretty much had an unlimited payroll and could basically get whoever I wanted either through trades or Free Agency. It would be one thing if I was the Yankees but as the Braves I should have to rely more on building through the farm system. We have an $85 million payroll, not $150 million like they gave me on the game.
Please tell me this was addressed!Comment

I don't know if you'll find exactly what you're looking for, but your best bet would be to check the CD Impressions thread that's stickied at the top. It's only 4 or 5 pages and some of the writeups are in-depth.
