Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
I'm pretty sure it's always been like that. Your probably referring to:
- Classic base running - Don't know how it works but probably involves L1/R1
- New Base running (not so new as it was in 09 and, if I'm correct in 08) - in which you can use L1/R1 to advance/retreat all runners.
Post in community day hands on impressions "Here are some RTTS notes:
1) For baserunning this year, there is an option in the menu that allows you to choose between either the right stick baserunning or the buttons (R1 and L1)."
Has anybody tried this yet and if so how well does it work.In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
Played one full game at my local BB. 9 innings Legend difficulty for pitching and hitting. I was Toronto @ Seattle.
Lighting was excellent. Player's faces seem to be much better and more recognizable. Really like the feel of the game. I can tell they polished up the gameplay which is number 1 for me. I played #3 starters against each other because I didn't have the patience to hit against Felix or Cliff Lee. I felt like a hog on playing it the whole time but nobody said anything so whatever lol.
Final box score was as follows:
Toronto (me) 7 12 1
Seattle 3 10 1
One thing I noticed was the check swing animations seem better. I think they are more responsive or something. I BARELY tapped the swing button and let go quickly and the batter kind of started to fire his shoulders but held up. The bat remained pretty much in place. This is obviously completley new and I think it's awesome. I was VERY happy to see that I got a double in the gap opposite field. This was extremely rare for me in 09. I took an outside fastball to the right center gap. It was a line drive and it scored 2 runs. I like the new camera but I don't like it. Probably that I'm just not used to it yet. I just don't like how zoomed in it is. I think it's very authentic though. I just have to give it a lot of games but worse comes to worse I just go ahead and play with old camera angle.
One huge thing that I notice was pitching difficulty. It seemed as if I was in control on the mound and the CPU didn't bust out with any crazy amount of offense. I am not bringing up last year's mess but I have to say that it definetley does have a different feel to it on the mound. For the better. I actually threw 108 pitches with my starter. Something that I NEVER done in previous versions of The Show. If I got to that magical 100 number I had pretty much nothing less. This really felt improved.
Definetley liking warming up a new pitcher out of the bullpen to get used to his release point.
I really think they polished hitting physics too. I could be wrong because I only played one game but last year I played Legend with hitting sliders tuned down the whole year. This game out of box I hit 1 double and 1 hr against Seattle's #3 starter. I took an up and in fastball over the right field wall about 2 or 3 rows deep with Adam Lind.
They added "superb" for quality of contact when you hit L3 to check the swing analysis thing. I don't know if this is an indicator that they tweaked the hitting physics or if they simply added a description to the type of contact that you made. Anyways, I'm liking what I'm seeing and looking forward to Tuesday to play sitting down in the comfort of my own home and without worrying about 8 year old kids that may be wanting to play behind me.Comment

There's info on that on this PS.Blog article. It refers to the old base running controls that were removed in last years game version. They were re-added in this years installment. What I hope is that analog base running was fixed to be independent of the camera's gyration. In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

Oh yeah, they are in the game! I was playing at BB and hitting from the outfield view when I first noticed the shading over home plate, and I was like, "oh, that's fantastic!" Then as I'm trying to focus on the next pitch in a very close game the beach ball comes down right behind home plate throwing me all off. And it stayed there for a good 5-10 seconds, it was hilarious! LaterComment

Ok on the RTP issue, so it's not defaulted, because I was wondering when i was playing where it was other than the new camera angle it seemed the same. I'm going back to BB tomorrow with everyone else in town on Sunday.Comment

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
I own both a PS3 and 360 system. My pre-order for the game was done weeks ago. Here is my honest opinion after playing the full version at Best Buy for about 45 minutes to an hour.
The game is solid although playing on Best Buy's TVs doesn't do the game's graphics justice. But in all honesty, the game felt too familiar to 09. Even with the real-time presentation on, I just wasn't say wow to myself.
After playing the 2K10 demo, I have really, really grown to enjoy both the pitching and hitting using the analog. When I switch between it and the Show's buttons, 2K10's system gives me more control and satisfaction, especially with the pitching. At first, I didn't like 2K10's pitching. But the more I practiced, the more I perfected the different gestures and really enjoyed the control and satisfaction of strike outs based upon my concentration to hit my spots.
I also like the stats layout in 2K10. I also believe that I will enjoy 2K10's dynamic commentary, something which I really enjoy in NBK 2K10. I literally am already bored with the commentary in the Show.
The Show's commentary can't compete with this year's 2K10s. Also with people like myself that enjoy the use of the analog for pitching and batting, the Show needs to provide an additional option to choose between the two such as what 2K10 has done this year.
I honestly believe the Show has lost some ground this year, but because it has been the King of Baseball for so many years, it's getting perhaps some overrated props based upon its history vs 2K10s history and its strong backing of PS3 followers.
I do believe the Show will be the more fine tuned game this year, especially graphics wise. But as far as feeling I'm paying $65.00 for a solid baseball game that will quench my thirst for something new, (dynamic commentary,up-to-date cumulative stats) and different (analog pitching/batting), I'm going to make the switch to MLB 2K10 this year.
I'm sure I will pick up the Show later down the line when the price drops, but the Kiosk experiment zapped any excitement I had to buy the Show this year right out of the gates based upon it feeling just to darn familiar to 09.
Analog pitching in 2k reminds me too much of fight night, this is why I can't warm up to it, yes their is lot of movement and you feel reward for your dexterity and that's cool for those who think that is real and rewarding. I would love for the show to introduce analog pitching and leave button press batting as is, but the type of analog pitching I prefer is "Rock and Fire" it is far superior and easy to anything on the market.
Familiarity breeds contempt, with that said I'm content with the show and I can't do without the A.I. this is very important too me and the animations in addition with adding music to your experience which adds to the presentation. Smart A.I. gets my attention, smart A.I. and great animations immerse me.Last edited by backbreaker; 02-28-2010, 12:04 AM.Comment

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
That's cool, the problem with analog hitting is it's too basic. I haven't found a solution that will offer a smart way too hit outside of timing. 2K is swing early, swing late with the right stick. Now if they add the left stick for zone hitting do you see all of the motor skills you will need.
Batting, less is more, because you are relying on your eyes also what your eyes are telling you. Nine zones in the strike zone and six outside including the nine count. If you were to rely just on timing without aiming, you're just swinging without any penalty. For the most part you don't have to incorporate skill, it just who can push the stick the fastest, it's very elementary. Now if you're pressing a button and pushing or pulling the left stick through a zone, that requires "hand and eye coordination" something that closely resemble a real world batter.
I don't know if you're familiar with "Rock and Fire", if not let me know I'll get you some videos. EA, developed a system that is simple, smart and very relateable to pitching without throwing and upper cut.Comment

Re: Play it at a kiosk? Post impressions here!!
Just got home from Best Buy where they had this. Man Kyle Blanks looks awesome in this game, he has the fro sticking out under his hat and helmet.
The pitching meter was a little different, i was using Mat Latos and I had to press X before it got to the mark unlike previous versions. Almost on its way back down I had to press it.Comment
