    Just Started a Mariner Franchise

I just started a franchise with the Mariners using the OS Version 4 rosters. I traded Ichiro and Milton Bradley to the Braves for Heyward, Escobar, and Freddie Freeman. Can anyone help me some trades people have done to improve the team? I dont like to totally overhaul my team in the first year, but would like to add a bat and another SP. Thanks for the help

      Just Veto'd my first trade.

Pirates offered Phillies SP Bryan Morris for Joe Blanton. Pirates are close to 20 GB in late May. Salaries are Blanton 3.5 Mil, Morris 384K.

That is the first trade even offered in my Franchise. Hopefully I start seeing some more and they are a little more realistic.

        Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

I don't know if this was appropriate in this or the progression thread because it has to do with a little bit of both progress and contracts. I lost my series against the Yankees in the ALCS, blew a couple of saves and every time they threw CC into the pit I had no confidence what so ever when it came to hitting even tho I managed to homer 4 times. It didn't hurt to lose because I've always been a winner in the other sports I've played and I'll be looking forward to going back this year and I'm sure I'll play a bit harder.

Now the interesting part begins, I let so many players walk away it isn't funny. I have no closer and I have about three players that I drafted on draft 5 starting in day 1. I might have to pull what the twins did with John Rauch and turn some kind of reliever into a closer because Bailey was way too pricey. I was trying to use AJ Burnett as trade bait but it's day one and no one is interested in trading so I'm going to have to suck it up and play without a closer becuase there is closer out there in the free agency pool at the moment.

Good luck on the overhaul-- although I would say that trade (in real life) wouldnt happend because Hewayd seems to be the new face of the braves. You might try going after someone like Adam Dunn who the Nats might trade being in the last year of his contract and try and resign him-- but you risk giving up a lot for a year (or half year) rental if you don't resign him.

Ya i know they would never trade Heyward, but I hate Ichiro. I was thinking of Dunn but I was thinking of going Jermaine Dye instead.

You could have traded Ichiro for Dunn and an arm like Jordan Zimmerman or Drew Storen.

How can you hate Ichiro!? As an Athletics fan my bias gets on the way off course but the only players I like on the M's roster are king felix, Chone Figgins and off course Ichiro.

On topic: I saw the M's trading for Big Papi and Jason Varitek. I forgot exactly who they gave up but it didn't seem that bad of a trade because I still had to play against the talent.

Ya Ichiro is good, I shouldnt say I hate him, but not a fan. I am even a Mariner fan and live in Seattle.

It seems like the Cubs are always willing to give away Zambrano for next to nothing. Or if you wanted a younger pitcher that should blossom into an A player the Marlins usually have Chris Volstad on the block as well, who I'm sure you could get for a prospect or two.

I dont get why so many people try to trade for a power hitting OF when Jermaine Dye is a free agent. I picked him up in my Braves chise and he is a great 5-6 hole hitter for me.

What year are you in? Bailey should have been under contract renewable status, thus able to re-sign for about 400K. Otherwise I would try out Henry Rodriguez at closer or else Kilby. Maybe use both as circumstances dictate

I thought he was under contract but he was asking for 13 MIL if I'm remembering correctly. I'm in my second year and I let too many players walk away so I'm infested with minor leaguers for the time being. Henry Rodriguez is probably my best relief pitcher at the moment, his fastball is way to sick and his slider may not have the most break but I can get right handers to swing and miss easily.

I'm waiting for the season to progress so I can trade for some decent infielders especially my 2nd baseman, he has way too many mistakes. I'm using Joey Devine and after 3 series he is 3 for 3 in saves. Kilby doesn't sound too bad as a closer tho. I'm just waiting for the summer so I can work out some package deal that brings me some decent infielding.

Contract renewable players may ask for a ton of money, but you only need to renew them at 80% of their former contract. But you have to wait until February 15th to do that. All you have to do prior to that is offer them anything. So where did Bailey end up?

Minnesota, did you keep Bailey in your franchise? When I played my franchise in madden it was a bit easier to understand contracts, here is more technical so I still have to get a better grasp of it. Next of season I will do my research lol.

The Mariners offered me Dustin Auckley for 2B Jeff Baker and RP Jeff Samardzija.

I gladly accepted, since Derrek Lee's contract is up, i'm pondering giving him a one year deal and if Auckley starts producing, trying to trade him away
