The Blue Jays traded Brett Cecil, Brett Wallace, and another pitcher (Jesse Carlson maybe?) for Alex Gordon and Roman Colon. The Blue Jays really wanted Gordon, because this is the 2nd offer they made for him. Toronto is currently in last place in the AL East, but only 3.5 games back.

wow... Miguel and ARod... some power in the Tigers lineup...

thinking of bringing Alex back to Seattle in my Mariners Franchise... but I just cant think of a realistic trade to make it happen... Just have to hope for Yankees pitching to be terrible so that a Cliff Lee and Prospects deal would look good to Steinbrenner..

The reason I say this is that I had 3 major changes to a club that played really well last year, but just came up short. And now, with basically the same team in tact and a few "significant" additions, the team is severely struggling to be contenders.

I added Jose Reyes to fill in need at SS - Jon Lester to be left handed started in rotation - Joe Maddon to be manager after La Russa bolted for Florida. Looking at those additions, along with others, I would've thought that divisional foes would have to play outstanding baseball from April to October to keep up, but it turns out that good baseball is handling my average baseball pretty well.

I am seriously considering trading Reyes and letting either Tyler Greene or a hot young prospect take over SS. Lester isn't going anywhere because my starting pitching is one of the best in the majors. As for Maddon, well, I can't do anything, and won't make any decisions until the offseason.
I can't confirm this at all, but it seems like the second season is more difficult than the first. I have basically the exact same team I had last year that got beat by the Red Sox in the first round. The Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers were the only real buyers in the off season. Everyone else just picked up minor pieces or replaced players they lost. So why is my division so much tougher? And why couldn't I hit to save my life the first month? And the AL Cy Young winner, Brett Anderson, has the worst record and ERA on my rotation. Well I am not too worried about it. It seems like the Angles and Rangers are keeping pace with me whether I win or lose so I will just take it as it comes. Our power is finally starting to pick up so that should help keep us in it longer. We managed to sweep the Cardinals despite Pujols' 4 home runs and 9 for 10 performance. But more importantly, the fact that I was able to fire Bob Geren makes anything else that happens in the franchise well worth it.

I tried to trade for Arod just to put him in A so that he has no chance of breaking any records, but the Yankees basically want the best three players I have before they even start to consider it.

Just completed this trade in my Red Sox franchise:

              White Sox get Mike Lowell

              Red Sox get Matt Thornton

IRL probably not a great trade but in my season Lowell is batting .323 9hr 50rbi and the White Sox desperately need a 3baseman as they're 2 games out of first in their division and Teahan is having an awful year.

                Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

Alright. I need some trade advice. Nothing major or over the top. I just have a few players that I am not entirely sure if I want to re-sign at the end of the year. Now that July just started, I was considering dumping some of them for prospects or minor players rather than just let them completely walk. Many of them will be Arbitration eligible for the first time and could end up costing me if I decide to off arbitration. So if I can get something for them, that would be great. There are tons of prospects out there that I really don't know much about. So any advice would be great. I think my most pressing need for next year would be a solid 2nd baseman. Ok so here is the break down:

Michael Wuertz - I haven't decided if I want to re-sign him or not, but he should be a type A free agent so I am in no pressing need to trade him unless I get a great deal

Craig Breslow - He has been a solid lefty, but I now have two that are cheaper and performing better, so I would like to off load him

Daric Barton - I can't decide if I should keep him or not. He is a solid contact hitter with a little bit of power, and has been doing a decent job at 2nd for now, but if I could get something for him rather than the 4 mil he wants that would be great

Ryan Sweeney - He has no power and has been more or less a back up lately.

Nick Swisher - If I managed to move Sweeney, then he looks like my starting RF for the next year or so.

Landon Powell - I don't plan on signing this guy at all. He is decent and B potential, but he needs to go to a team where he can play everyday.

Rajai Davis - I am moving on from this guy. He has speed, but with my CF draft prospect tearing it up in AAA, I plan on him taking over next season.

Joey Devine/Brad Ziegler - I could probably re-sign both of these guys for less than a million each, so I might do it just to have a veteran presence in the pen. Or I could move them. Either way doesn't bother me in the least

Eric Chavez - His power dropped a lot this year, and Kouz has been playing great D. I might keep him as a backup for nostalgia sake

Cliff Pennington - I signed this guy to a 4 year $1.5 mil per and now regret it. Green has stepped up and taken the SS job. Pennington could work as a fill in 2nd base if I can't get anyone else though

Andrew Bailey - Here is the big question. He will want something in the $13 mil range. He has only blown two saves all year and is a stud, but is he worth that? I am not sure if he is the next Rollie Fingers or Dennis Eckersley, but I am not sure that he isn't either. He would bring in a large haul though, no?

Teams that are in the playoff push are:
                Braves
                Phillies
                Reds
                Dodgers
                Red Sox
                Yankees
                White Sox
                Tigers
                Twins
Angels and Rangers but not trading with them

                  Twins
Angels and Rangers but not trading with them
Ok this advice that I'm posting would be from a point of view according to my franchise, but I know we all perform differently with players.

Michael Wuertz- I would resign this guy, in my franchise I can always count on him to keep that score steady for andrew bailey and at times I've been able to close the game with him from the 7th inning.

Craig Breslow- This is the releiver I count on the least when it comes to replacing the starter, I use him sometimes if I see a herd of left handed batters coming late in the game but I wouldn't really maneuver to keep this guy.

Daric Barton- In my Franchise, this guy has sparked so many rallies when the game is scoreless that it would be crazy for me to advice you on replacing him, I adore my left hander hitters in the lineup. He is a bit pricey tho and if you don't see him performing so well then a trade is in order.

Ryan Sweeney- This is another guy who has gone in great hitting streaks for and is dependable (just got done playing a game where he hit a grandslam against Brandon Webb). You said you have Nick Swisher and a prospect tearing up the ranks on triple A and I assume that Coco is still in your line up. I would trade for prospects before that trade deadline approaches since he is just a backup who can be doing some damage.

Nick Swisher- Assuming that you have traded Sweeney this should be the everday starter at RF.

Landon Powell- This guy is the everyday starter for the River Cats in Sacramento, I'm not aware of how much he costs but I wouldn't kill myself when it comes to keeping this guy. Josh Donaldson (back up catcher) does a great job for me at catching and batting when Suzuki needs to rest.

Devine/Ziegler- Ziegler is a gamble everytime I want to keep the lead, sometimes I can strike out the side and other times it's just a mess and I have to take him out quickly. I would try getting a decent reliver for Ziegler but would keep Devine. Devine has been so solid throughout my franchise, sure he only has 3 pitches on his repertoire but they are great pitches with lots of movement. Ziegler out and Devine resignes would be my advice here.

Eric Chavez- Such a career this guy has had with all the injuries, but back to the game. I would get rid of him and I'm planning on getting rid of him when his contract is up, or even trade for him next season. His power has decrease and I have toruble getting a double at times.

Cliff Pennington- I like this guy on my line up because of switch hitting ability, I say keep him as a back up because of his decent D.

Andrew Bailey- This is a tough I'm going to have to deal with in the future also. I think that he is a great closer but 13 mill is a bit pricey but hell the A's are not filled with many players asking for millions so I would say resign.

                    Thanks DC.

I should have prefaced it with it being the second season currently. Crisp is long gone. Sweeney has been dependable, but he can't hit lefties and can't hit for power. I have been rotating him in with Davis in center. I am still on the fence with Swisher. I traded for and re-signed Carlos Pena and Carlos Quentin in the off season, which is the only reason I am even considering letting Barton go or trading him. I have Carter as my full time DH so I can't really use Barton there. I am on the fence with Wuertz because he is a good reliever, but I don't know if I can afford him and Bailey. He is also type A so I get two picks if I let him walk. Ziegler and Devine have been the opposite for me. Zieg can be hit and miss, but as long as I use him as a ground out pitcher only I do pretty well. Devine can have great days and then give up back to back homers. Powell is decent but I think he needs to go his own way now. He might even make it as a starter somewhere else. I have Fox for one more year, which I wouldn't mind using as a backup since Suzuki can play almost everyday. Plus I have Stassi coming up soon. Pennington was great for me year one, so I re-signed him for 4 years, but then he lost his job to Grant Green. And I hope Chavez retires so that I don't have to make that decision. At worst he can pinch hit and play great defense in the late innings. The game Chavez has recovered from his back injuries much better than the real one has. I need a 2nd baseman for at least one year, maybe two. I drafted a stud, but he won't be ready for a bit. So I could slide Pennington there since he is under contract for 3 more years.

Oh it's no problem and I forgot about the trade you made earlier in the season where you shipped off Ben Sheets for Carlos Peña. With this clear you should get rid of Barton because he is too pricey and you have Carlos Quentin a very good Cleanup hitter that can DH. I went back to my post and noticed I left out rajai, if you plan on getting rid of Sweeney I would hold on to his guy but it's clear that one of the two have to go.

Raj is definitely gone. I have a center fielder prospect with Torii Hunter potential. Which mean Sweeney or Swisher will be the odd man out. And then there is Taylor and Buck to think about. Buck is rated terrible on this game, and has D potential, yet he is the only guy currently batting over .300 in my lineup. He doesn't have any power though and his trade value is nil, so keeping him doesn't cost me anything. Sweeney and Swisher each want at least 1.8 mil. Barton wants 4. I would like to keep him, but there really isn't much he can do. He is holding his own at 2nd, and he can also play catcher so perhaps he could be my backup catcher/1B/2B. Then I wouldn't need to bring up Fox. Hmmmm, is 4 mil too much to pay for a utility guy and backup catcher?

                                lefty or righty?
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
