I would say in real life you would get one or the other, not both. The marlins are going to trade their two best players for Jack Wilson and Strasburg. Jack Wilson just isn't good enough. You are going to need a player like Franklin Gutierrez or a big time prospect. I think you could do Hanley and Anibal Sanchez (sp?) for Jack and Strasburg.

Realistically, the Indians would never trade Santana unless you offered them somebody massively good. He is the number 1 prospect in their org. Laird is a better option if you want to stay real.

        Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

In my Astros franchise, I am becoming more and more intersted in Dbacks 3B Mark Reynolds.

Unlike in real life, Pedro Feliz has been good for me at third. He's hitting .270 w/ 13 HR, 26 2B and close to 50 RBI (95 games into the season). Nothing stellar, but he has been very solid.

However, he is 35 years old, and I only have him signed to a 1 year deal.

My Astros are in contention, 1 game over .500 and 5 games out of first. My pitching has been pretty good, but I am not scoring a lot of runs, and am hitting very few HR. (I do hit a lot of doubles however). My team leader is Berkman with 17 HR

I have Chris Johnson waiting in the wings, but I think Reynolds right handed power could be tailor made for Minute Maid Park, and jumpstart my offense.

Reynolds is in the last year of his contract, and is arbitration eligible after the season. I am not sure if the Dbacks would trade him, or what they would want (I'm thinking Johnson, a good pitching prospect, and another average player). Or even Feliz, if he is appealing to them.

I am wondering if I should try and deal before the deadline, or wait for the offseason. I really don't know if the CPU takes the contract situation into account, or just ratings.

Is it more attractive to deal before Reynolds hits arbitration? He is an all star in the game, and has good power numbers. I don't know...maybe it will drive up his arbitration money.

        Thoughts?

I think you'd be giving up a lot for a potential rental in Reynolds, but you're right about Reynolds power being a good fit for Houston.

If you give in Johnson then I could see the deal working out for both teams as they still get a serviceable third baseman back that they can control for multiple years.

If there's any interest in Johnson in the deal, then go for it.

I will say that if I were able to get Reynolds, I would do it with the intention of signing him to a multi year deal.

I might do so even if it means letting Berkman go to free agency. I don't know what I will be looking at in terms of budget, and his contract demands in the off season.

Like I said, it could be a potential rental because you have some pretty big contracts just stinking up the bankroll.

Being in the race, it could cost you the ability to move out some of those ugly contracts for good pieces to fill up the farm system and be the future of your organization - mostly guys like Berkman and Lee.

How hard a push are you going to make in this current run? Or better yet, how realistic that your team can make the playoffs?

Without knowing your standings and what the rest of your schedule looks like, I can only suggest that if you do think about the Reynolds deal be sure to keep in mind that you may end up losing out on some of your other FA eligible talents at the end of the season and have nothing to show for it.

                Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

About a month ago I made a new Mets franchise with 30 team control, and I'm 2 games under .500 on May 1st, and my pitching is ABYSMAL(it's my offense carrying me), so I decided to pull off a trade with the Red Sox:
Mets acquire: Daisuke Matsuzaka, Ramon Ramirez(the old Royal reliever)
Red Sox acquire: Oliver Perez, Brad Holt, Jefry Marte

Daisuke was in the pen with the Red Sox, and Perez had an ERA of 6.09 for me, so I figured for a guy who wasn't even starting for the Sox, giving them a new starter for their bullpen(and insurance in the event of injuries), one of my top pitching prospects for taking Ollie from me, and a project 3rd baseman for Matsuzaka and a reliever(Ramirez had a 5+ ERA) was pretty fair.

                  Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

This is true...my main FA eligible talents are Berkman and Brett Myers. Myers has been good, and while I would like to keep him, it will depend on the cost. Kaz Matsui is having a career year (hitting over .300 in a platoon role) but I can't see resigning him unless he takes a big paycut. I have considered trading him as well.

All my other good players are either in multi year deals (Oswalt, Lee), or inegligible (Pence, Bourn, Norris, Paulino, Lindstrom).

I am almost of the mindset that losing Berkman might be worth Reynolds, only because of the age difference. I'd like to have both, but you are absolutely right it could be difficult.

I suppose I could A) play out the season with what I have, and wait to see what money Reynolds gets first, or B) roll the dice a little.

It's hard to say how much of a push I can make. I'm one game over .500, 5 back of the division leading Cubs. I did just take 2 of 3 on the road against them, and almost won the 3rd game.

My pitching has been pretty good, both in the rotaion and bullpen. My main issue is inconstent clutch hitting, and HR. I constantly find myself in close games in which I just can't score enough runs (3-2, 4-2 etc.) I am tied for the league lead in doubles (as a team), and my team BA is acceptable (about .260). With the friendly Crawford boxes beckoning to a right handed power hitter, I just can't help salivating over Reynolds.

I am also considering the future. I can't help but feel like Feliz is having one good year, but might not have too many left. And I am not sure Johnson is the answer (although he has A potential).

Ok I simmed my first season with my A's franchise because I've played through it before and I wanted to advance to the second season. In the first season I participated in the draft and stopped the simming during July to make some trades. The Red Sox offered me David Ortiz for 3 minor leaguers, 2 relievers and a SS. I accepted to deal him later on because I'm content with Daric Barton at first and Jack Cust at DH. I traded Ben Sheets for Clay Bucholz and Dice-K ( I still don't understand why the sox give up Dice K so easily). Days later I gace up Justin Duchscherer and David Ortiz for Jon Lester. Ben Sheets was on fire when he was traded and Buchholtz was on the end of a very expensive contract.

I signed Clay Buchholtz to a 4 year deal but I seriously dislike his windup. I would love to trade him for some prospects or someone like Dan Haren but it's way too early in the season and no one shows any interest in trades.

Lol why not just do a Red Sox franchise if you're going to trade for so many of their players?

I know it's a bit ridiculous but I'm going to deal the players when the trade deadline comes for a more realistic feel. I honestly didn't expect the Lester deal to go through as the bar was not full all the way. I'm going to make a good deal for Buchholz but I'll give Lester up easy because it's not much fun have so many all stars in the lineup. I plan on keeping Dice-K tho I have so much fun pitching with him now that I got his crazy release point down. I'm not paying Lester or Dice-K but I gave Clay a 4 year deal.

Quick one, looking for opinions...I'm the Marlins, I wanna swing a trade with the Cubs (my boys so I may be biased lol), Any way it looks like this: Cubs send: Colvin, Zambrano, and Caridad to Florida for: Jose Veras, Nolasco, and Maybin...I havent hit the trigger on it, Guess I'm only wondering cuz the OFs...IMO Colvin's the man, and well, Maybin has sucked. But the way I'm seeing it by the rating bar: Nolasco > Zambrano, Veras >>> Caridad, and then Maybin << Colvin.

I am condsidering replicating the Dan Haren trade in my franchise, but I got to thinking....

the Dbacks have Brandon Webb on the trading block. he makes 20.7m and is eligible for free agency.

Haren is signed to a 3 year deal and making 8.5m this season. If I was the Dbacks GM I would hold onto Haren and trade Webb.

Should I do that, or stick with what happened IRL??? I have a mix of CPU generated and manual trades based on reality in my franchise.

For example, I have replicated the Cliff Lee trade, but also did not complete the ALex Gonzalez, Yunel Escobar trade as it made no sense in the game.

If Webb isn't on the DL in your season then I can see that making more sense. After all, why hold onto a guy that's going to FA at the end of the season and trade the guy you have control over for a couple more seasons?

Trading Webb is entirely based on whether you are in the playoff hunt, what other teams are offering for him, how well you pitch with him, and whether you think you can re-sign him or not. Taking those factors into consideration, trading Webb may get you some good prospects, but letting him walk will get you two draft picks. So far from what I have seen using the V1 rosters, draft picks start out higher than the current prospects. I am not sure how well they progress in comparison to the prospects that are already in existence, but it is something to take into consideration. If you can't get something good for Webb, but don't want to re-sign him, check out who is still available to be drafted next season. If there are some young A potential players that didn't get drafted, then it might be something to think about.
