Due to a very odd chain of events during the offseason, I now have Shane Victorino and Placido Polanco rotting down in AAA. Since they both are very highly rated and I have no use for them, they are very valuable trade chips.

My team is pretty well off when it comes to the starting lineup, bench, and bullpen. The starting pitching staff is very strong, with a rotation of Roy Halladay, Josh Beckett, Cole Hamels, Jeff Niemann, and J.A. Happ. I am looking for another ace to add to the starting rotation, since Victorino and Polanco raise the bar, as in the bar that signifies a team's interest in a trade, very high.

I'm still stuck on which pitcher to trade for though. Dan Haren, Brandon Webb, Josh Johnson, Tim Lincecum, and Matt Garza are pitchers I have all thought about trading for, but I cannot make a decision.

So, I'm looking for suggestions. Which pitcher should I trade for (not limited to the 5 listed) and who should be moved from the rotation to the bullpen? Niemann or Happ?

Traded 1B Johnny Gomes and SP Chris Tillman to the Marlins for SP Josh Johnson . . . I'm in 2013.

Ah yes, sorry 'bout that. Yes, I am the Philadelphia Phillies, and I'm very very early on in my second season (as I play all 162 games). The standings don't really matter in this case, because whenever I simulate to the trade deadline (for curiosity sake) and value what I can get for Victorino and Polanco, I can make almost any two-for-one deal possible, and various two-for-twos.

This was the stats for my pitchers in Year One:

Roy Halladay: 24-4, 1.98 ERA, 189 K, 0.83 WHIP, .219 RHH, .219 LHH
Cole Hamels: 21-3, 2.69 ERA, 174 K, 0.86 WHIP, .238 RHH, .204 LHH
Cliff Lee: 15-7, 3.27 ERA, 145 K, 1.05 WHIP, .270 RHH, .263 LHH
J.A. Happ: 14-5, 3.22 ERA, 121 K, 1.09 WHIP, .283 RHH, .221 LHH
Dana Eveland: 11-2, 2.69 ERA, 74 K, 0.95 WHIP, .256 RHH, .229 LHH

Roy Halladay won the Cy Young. However, Dana Eveland got injured down the stretch and I traded for Jeff Niemann, who's Year One stats are as follows.

Jeff Niemann: 4-0, 2.37 ERA, 29 K, 0.87 WHIP

Dana Eveland, who was a mid-season FA signing, never really recovered, and blew up during the postseason and spring training this year. So I moved him to the bullpen. Cliff Lee went to Boston as a result of FA, so I signed Josh Beckett to replace him. Jeff Niemann replaced Eveland in the rotation this season.

However, I don't trust that I can have both Happ and Niemann perform throughout the season, and since I have two major trade chips in Shane-O and Poly, I've decided to go out and upgrade the rotation.

So my second season rotation is: Halladay (R), Beckett (R), Hamels (L), Niemann (L), Happ (L).

Eveland has unfortuneatly become expendable, so when the time comes I can demote him and move either Niemann or Happ to the bullpen with the other becoming my #5 starter.

I can't believe you pitched that well with Eveland. Although, I faced him for the first time the other day and he struck me out 9 times in the game and went on to get the win. I would say that your pitching core is either very solid, or else you should increase the difficulty level for pitching. I don't know if there has ever been a team to have a rotation of starters each with an era below 3.30, three pitchers below 3, and one guy below 2. And now you have Niemann doing very well too. If you are determined to get a fourth ace in your rotation, I would say go for a righty since you have three lefties now with one of them going to the pen. That way you can switch them off if you like depending on the team you are facing (I would use Philly as an example, but it obviously wouldn't fit in this case). I am curious, is you lineup just as stacked? It must be pretty good to have Polanco and the Hawaiian in AAA

I'm enjoying a very good team. Though when you go 121-41 in the regular season and 11-2 on the way to a World Series title, it's time to kick up the difficulty.

But I really do like my team. Looking back, I really have no idea how Eveland was that good. He didn't pitch spectauarly in any particular case (besides maybe his debut) but when you look at the scoreboard the team's would never hit off him. That, and he batted over .400 so he was very enjoyable. :^)

My lineup, with their Year One stats are as follows:

I aquired Soto in a trade with the Cubs Mid July Year One, which was basically a Soto-Ruiz swap, but I added one of my three top prospects in the deal who Rollins was blocking anyway.

Unlike the REAL Phillies, the bullpen is one of the best in MLB. Brad Lidge tied second for most saves in a season. I aquired John Grabow in a trade with the Cubs which was basically a swap with JC Romero with a low-level prospect added in on my end. David Weathers was aquired in a trade with the Marlins which WAS a swap for Bill Bray which was a mid-season FA signing gone bad.

Bench:

Miguel Olivo (Signed 1 yr, 3.18 million deal over offseason)
Greg Dobbs (.370, 8 HR, 20 RBI in 146 AB)
Jim Edmonds (.358, 13 HR, 28 RBI in 162 AB)
Matt Joyce (.268, 7 HR, 28 RBI)
Rocco Baldelli (Signed 1 yr, 4.5 million deal over offseason)

I aquired Jim Edmonds as a mid-season FA signing. Best Mid-Season Signing Ever.
I aquired Matt Joyce in a trade with the Rays. I sent Joe Blanton and two prospects to Tampa for Jeff Niemann and Joyce.

So yeah, that's my Phillies. I have been working agressively with this team. But I really NEED to make a trade, since I have Poly and Shane-O just ROTTING in AAA. Unless Shane-O is better than Bay, and Polanco is better than Mora then I'm going to trade them. Mora HAS been a surprise so far though. Basically a faster Polanco with a LOT more power.

So suggestions would be nice. If anything, I might need a new Right-Handed Power Bat off the bench, because Matt Joyce hasn't been the same since he suffered a season-ending fractured Shin in Year One. I might also persue a power-right-handed starter. Other than that, I believe I'm fine.

Anyone wanna help me piece together a good deal involving the Diamondbacks and Mets? As the D-Backs I'm looking to get Webb's expiring contract away, and I want to see what I can get for him before he becomes a FA. The Mets are interested. Who should I ask for? Maine? Jenrry Mejia? I think giving up Jenrry would be fair, but Idk. Who else needs starting pitching?

I'm thinking a deal like; Mejia, F-Mart, and maybe a guy like Daniel Murphy, whom the Mets don't exactly need anymore due to Ike Davis, but he has versatility the D'Backs could use.

Use K-rod as trade bait? I think your pitching rotation (if you have the original one) can use more than just Johan Satana. The hitting doesn't seem bad in game, not familiar with the bullpen though.

Because my new Mets franchise is 30 team control, whenever 2 teams makea trade proposal, I scrap that deal if I don't find it logical and instead do a deal that makes sense. In the 2nd week of May, the first CPU proposal came in with the Cubs and Angels trading Josh Vitters for Tyler Skaggs, and with the Cubs struggling, and the Angels already having Brandon Wood, I nixed that and instead did:
Angels acquire: Randy Wells(5.46 ERA)
Cubs acquire: Scott Kazmir(5.67 ERA)
A swap of 2 players similar in age and stats this year, in an attempt to give both a change of scenery and bring their teams back into the hunt.

And with the Mets, I'm strongly debating a deal with the Royals:
Mets acquire: Zack Greinke, Bruce Chen
Royals acquire: Fernando Martinez, Jennry Mejia, Mike Pelfrey/John Maine
Obviously it's 30 team control so I dictate if it goes down, but I'm trying to keep it fair by trading my top 2 prospects, as well as a major league pitcher with potential for Greinke. I looked up the Haren to D'Backs trade from a couple years ago for reference, and Haren was traded at age 26, and Greinke is currently 26, so it's not like a 26 year old ace being traded is unheard of, plus the Royals are nowhere close to competing.

it hasn't taken long in year 3 for clubs to start willing and dealing. The first of May teams have started making moves that I'm surprised are happening at this point. The biggest being the Marlins sending Ricky Nolasco to the Rangers for 3 prospects.

The biggest head scratcher was the Phillies trading for Luke Scott(1B) from the Orioles, when they have Howard and signed Adrian Gonzalez in the off-season. Immediately following the trade for Scott, Howard went up on the block. I have a feeling the big guy is leaving Philly once and for all.

Myself, I'm still trying to get a feel for my team. I have a hot young 1B prospect on the block as well as Reyes and Schumaker(age catching up to these guys), but have had only one offer from the Tigers that I refused(I don't need starting pitching..lol)

Man...I love this game.
