Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

One thing I have noticed is that breaking pitches seem to have more effect this year. I really don't know how to explain it better than that, but I have been able to get the cpu to chase pitches out of the zone when setup properly. At times last year, I thought the cpu was too patient at the plate and didn't "chase" pitches when I thought they should, especially guys with lower plate discipline.

I have 3 strikeouts in my current game with setting hitters up (one with slider off the plate after back to back fastballs, curve that broke out of the zone, and a fastball that I moved about a half-ball size over on 3 consecutive pitches, the third ending up off the plate)

Any others with the game noticing this?

Eric Karros has been muted. He is highly annoying. The commentary is starting to definitely show its age in this game. Is it terrible? No. Is it great? Not anymore, its adequate I'd say. Not boring, but not groundbreaking either.

So when you fire the game up for the first time it ask if you want to choose Easy, normal, or expert, I selected expert for complete analog controls.

Well there is a learning curve my friends. I turned all the extras off(Guess pitch, strikzone..etc..etc) In my first game I had 6 hits, a couple of doubles and even a homerun.

2nd game Red Sox vs Yankees(me)

Becks struck me out 14 times in a row, and 21 times in the game. He a no-hitter going until 2 outs in the 9th, when I hit a single up the middle to break it up. I lost 2-0 and was absolutely demoralized.

I love the analog controls, but am also going to give the zone hitting a fair shake also.........

Ok maybe I am missing something, but last year you could click L3 while pitching to see the previous pitches thrown to a batter, but I am not able to do it this year. For those with the game are you guys not seeing this either or do I need to turn it on in an option somewhere?

the over agressiveness of the cpu going first to third on basehits to RF has been toned down seemingly. I've only played about 7 innings, but on 3 different occasions, I've seen the situation come up where the cpu would try to go 1st to 3rd last year and more often than not get thrown out.

Also, I've hit a ball over the outfielders head!!!!

LOL...I hit the pitcher with a comebacker and it went to a cutscene where the catcher and I guess manager came out to check on him. LOL...

Stayed in the game though. Comebacker hit him in the legs.

When they said they changed the zone hitting, they weren't kidding. The PCI/bat placement is critical in zone hitting this year, at least on HOF/Legend. No more just pressing the x button and hitting the ball or hitting the ball when the PCI is nowhere near the location.

One of the biggest differences I've noticed from last year to this year, is the defense. You can certainly tell the difference from a scrub fielder to a gold glover, with variations in between.

I love the new fielding in the game, the new way the outfield plays and the feel of fielding.

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

Ok...some newer observations this morning. Played a full game with the Rox at the Cubs(me) Jimenez threw 84 pitches before I knocked him out. The most suprising thing to me was 35 of those pitches were balls. I have never had the ability to draw that many walks(5) and let that many balls go by before.

I was playing on All Star and won 9-1, and I have a feeling All Star will be to easy if your using the Classic pitching control and zone hitting. I only had 10 hits, but 3 dbls, 2 homeruns, and Jimenez threw 4 wild pitches....including 3 in a row.

                      A couple of pm request........

                      Soriano Homerun
                      Carlos Gonzalez stance
                      Tulo stance
                      Tulo fielding up close

Used classic pitching my first game and walked 5 using King Felix. Never walked that many guys before but it was nice to see. Felix went 6.1 118 pitches, 7 H, 5BB, 9K's 1R, 1ER

Bob noticed this and so I tried it as well but now there is a quick rumble when using classic pitching. Were not quite sure what it means because in a full windup it does it right before the leg lift on Felix. In the stretch, it was much deeper in the windup, after the apex of the leg lift

Also, the stadiums from last year, Shibe, Polo, etc appear to be still be unlocked if you had the code or purchased the dlc for last year. Currently doing batting practice at Shibe

I got the okay from 42 to post impressions.

I only had a short time to play and will be gone until tonight.

Played a couple in innings at PNC park with the Yankees. The Show is a masterpiece. Visually stunning, smooth as silk gameplay. All the player faces seem right on to me. The only Yankee player that looked a little off was Swisher. He sort of looked like Joba. But that is just my opinion.

To me the biggest improvement is fielding. I love the analog fielding and throwing. Very smooth and it seems easier to follow the ball off the bat. You can charge grounders better than before as the players initial reaction has improved.

I would have played more than a couple of innings, but I played with the camera settings and HR derby also. The camera options are fantastic. For those of you having problems hitting, make sure you find a good hitting camera, that made a difference for me. I love to tinker with the pitcher/hitter cameras!

I tried HR derby once last year and never went back. This year the HR derby is greatly improved, you can use your cusom cameras when batting. The camera following the ball is a thing of beauty. First it scans up and out in the direction of the HR, then the camera will scan back so you get a nice visual of your homerun! The analog hitting really makes you feel like you are hammering a homerun. I will be playing the HR derby this year. I am thinking of getting the playstation move sometime later to try.

In the Show Shop, they have an item called the 'Advanced Stats Unlock'. I wonder what that is as I am a stat freak.

As a recap, based on a couple of hours of playing, The Show is a must buy this year.
