Re: RTTS: Pitching Speed Q?
Yes and no. You will need to keep the speeds close to get the max speed, but it's not like last year where your skill rating for fastball velocity could maxed out and you'd be throwing 87MPH just because the speeds weren't even I started with a velocity rating of 90 on my fastball and my other pitches were around 30-40 yet I was hitting 95MPH regularly. Last year, I would have been hitting 87-88.A screaming comes across the sky...Comment

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread
do wehave to block pitches in the first in the dirt as a catcher now?"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed"

I'm creating a starting pitcher but I don't know where to begin? What should my stats be, and where should I put my points at?Comment

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread
I haven't followed the entire thread, so forgive me if this has been discussed already, but is anyone noticing that for whatever reason, the minor league pitchers seem to stay mostly in or just barely off the strike zone? I have already zeroed out sliders related to pitching control and strike frequency and just wish that I'd actually get less pitches to hit...lol.
I've only played exhibition besides my 25 or so games of RTTS, but there is a clear difference between the two for me. In Exhibition games, I've worked a bunch of walks, seen pitchers (especially back of the rotation guys) go all over the place, but these minor leaguers never seem to stray from the plate. When you couple that with a more prevalent tendency for borderline inside/outside pitches to be called strikes, it's making it much tougher to draw walks.
I am wondering if maybe the AI is adapting to the fact that my guy has fairly low discipline (rated 35) and vision (rated 46), but you'd think, if anything, they'd try to get me to chase more. I'm rarely in even in 3 ball counts and the few times I am, the AI just starts pounding the zone or if they do miss it's SO close that I either need to swing or get caught looking (again, since more borderline pitches are being called strikes).
What's funny is, that looking at the performance evaluator, I have good discipline and vision (I rarely chase balls, take pitches, etc) but I am struggling to get deep into counts simply because the AI is almost never outside the zone. In fact, if it were adapting well, it would take me outside more as I've reached big time in 2 strike counts because I haven't expected a pitch to be far outside the zone...lol.
I like all the little changes to RTTS, but in some ways it's still stuck with the same issues (for me, at least) as it feels like the logic is entirely separated from the rest of the game. Heck, in regards to walks, it seems more separated this year, as working the count felt the same across all modes in 10 and feels entirely different in 11.
Note that none of this is a difficulty complaint or anything. I am hitting like .400 with 9 HR and a bunch of doubles in early May, simply because rather than trying to finish me off with 2 strikes, is going right after me and losing.I'm not striking out either, because the AI is in the good part of the zone far too often. I do work some long counts, but it's due to fouling off a bunch of strikes. If that's a ratings thing, I can see the merit of that (attack a weak hitter) and it would be an interesting addition, but they should tune it to differentiate between MLB pitchers and AA pitchers IMO.Last edited by SoxFan01605; 03-26-2011, 10:54 AM.Comment

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread
No, Soxfan. I see them miss the zone by a lot quite often. And it seems to be tied pretty well to their /9 attributes.
The thing is that as my player has progressed, I see them pitch around me a little more. I think what you're seeing is their lack of respect for you. You're only 25 games in right? They want you to hit the ball with your low ratings, because to them, you're probably going to ground out a lot or simply swing through it. (If you use timing, that is, which takes aiming skill away from the user)
I also noticed a vast jump in pitcher skill from AA to AAA. Some AA guys were just terrible and I'd see 4-pitch walks. The fringe MLB guys feel just that. I've faced JA Happ a couple times in the past week, and all he did was throw me strikes at the knees followed by a high fastball just out of the zone. I wanted to throw my controller through the TV those two games, lol.
There was a guy earlier in this thread who spent a bunch of money to max out his hitter and was complaining that he doesn't get anything to drive. I think the CPU's overall strategy to begin a game is based on your player's ratings, and it adjusts those tendencies during individual games based on if you swing at a certain pitch out of the zone consistently (e.g. changeup low, slider outside, etc.).Last edited by ImTellinTim; 03-26-2011, 01:09 PM.Comment

I'd like a career minor league pitcher or, when the time comes, a #5 MLB starter to have a more different approach than a better pitcher. I'm sure that's something that's difficult to do well or consistently though. It just seems like the AI is a bit too blanketed, for lack of a better term. In other words, they all seem to be tuned to me, rather than adjusting to me based on a combination of my ability versus their ability.
I'm not saying that's for sure though...just how it feels to me. I'm still enjoying it while I wait to start a franchise, so I'll definitely give it more time and see where things go. Thanks for the feedback. I'll certainly keep my eye out for changes as I advance.Comment

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread
Quick question, if I get called up in the middle of the season to The Show does that count as my rookie season? I would love a shot at being the rookie of the year but I would obviously have no chance if coming in during the middle of the season counted.Last edited by TigersMG; 03-26-2011, 04:44 PM.Wolverines - Red Wings - Tigers - LionsComment

2B/SS right at the all star break of my second season got traded from the A's AAA affiliate to the Reds. Still in AAA, my first game with the Louisville Bats I went 3 for 4 and in my second game with my new team I blasted a grandslam to dead center. Liking the change of location.Battle.net: xXKING08Xx

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread
I created a CF in the Rangers organization in my 4th RTTS, but I didn't have any success hitting when I played the games until I moved pitch speed all the way to the left. I got traded from the Texas organization to the Washington organization in July, and I think I'll have a better career here. They seem to have a more urgent need for a CF.Comment

Re: MLB 11 "Road To The Show" thread
I just finished a game as an RTTS pitcher for the AA Angels team the Arkansas Travelers. I broke my 4-year The Show strikeout record with 17 strikeouts. It felt great striking out that last batter with an admittedly terrible pitch.
I was shocked at how many points I received (1040) due to stacked up bonuses such as a shutout and consecutive wins.Comment
