Correct. It goes by Mac address in the system. You can get a new system and transfer via ethernet and it then wipes the old system.

You can only back up and restore to the same PS3.

So if you ever get a YLOD, you need to do the quick fix, then hopefully it lasts for a new system transfer.

Re: No Copying of Saved Game Files Kills Me...

First guys, Sorry if what I'll say has been already discussed.

But am I the only guy who would like to have the possibility to rename our franchise save data.

You could do it for the roster, the settings but not if you're running a (30-team) franchise.

I personnaly run my franchise with a lot of saves and keep some at important dates. (eg. just before a trade - all star break - end of each months - end of year 1, 2, 3 and so on)
So I want to name my franchise save data :
End of may - before xxxx trade ... (I know I can't put all that caracters...)

I have already said it in the wish list last year and certainly add it to the new one.

Anyway do you feel the need or not ?
I think it is pretty easy for SCEA to input it and maybe with a patch for this year's version.

I definitely wish naming the files are allowed. I run several franchise/seasons/RTTS concurrently and every time I need to save manually it is a sweating experience. Is the right file to overwrite.....? I don't think we need to go through it. I bet I have lost 10 lb due to this.

I think this could be even more useful now that backing up files are not allowed (unless you pay extra $50 a year for only a few franchise worth of storage). I can feel less nervous if I have a means to do my own backup somewhere, but not when I cannot.

I thought you could backup from one PS3 and restore on another PS3, but the protected save files will not be restored but everything else would be.

That kinda confused me, to be honest. So I can have a back-up if I transfer a copy of the file to another PS3? via the cloud thing?

Cloud yes, because that is tied to the PSN account.

I mean like if I save a back-up franchise to a cloud, then the PS3 gets the YLoD, is it possible to get that back-up to another PS3? (sorry if it sounds like the same question)

yes u can. you will just need to activate your account on the other ps3, then u will be able to download.

Man there are no flashers... now what are we going to do for vd
I'm sure there's plenty of prostitutes you could pay if you really want vd.
yea but will they take psn cards
Depends on what area of a hooker you would use to redeem them.

Oh ****. I didn't know you could do that. I'm not a PS3 owner, I just borrow my bro's. Thanks for the replies, ppl.

Re: No Copying of Saved Game Files Kills Me...

I too have an old "Fat" 60GB PS3. For the last couple of years I have kept a 1.0GB SD card in the memory card slot and a couple times per week I copy my "Save Game" files to it...just to be safe.

I was upset to find out about these locked saves for MLB '11.

AND my PS3 finally succumbed to the YLOD this past Monday. I was able to revive it with a re-flow, but I know that's only temporary.

This is the part that is frustrating: I'm not really interested in PS+ although Sony may have forced my hand at this point. I had a perfectly good solution in use with the SD Card and now I have to cough up $50 to get 15% of the storage space that I currently have for free? I understand that most people probably get good value for their $50, but I don't really see how I would. I don't have that much time to spend on my PS3 as it is...I stream some video, but 90% of my gaming time is MLB.

                      Stinky.

They locked the saves because of the stupid Advanced Stats DLC, I would've preferred to pay $61 for the game with the Stats and be able to copy my files. You can buy PS+ for 3 months instead of a year so you can use the cloud to back up your save file to the cloud and downloading it onto your new PS3 (which I presume you will be purchasing).

Or if you go out and buy a new PS3 very soon (while the old one is working), you can do the data transfer thing between the 2 PS3s and move your locked saves to the new PS3 without needing PS+ at all.

So a locked save will move from an old PS3 to a new one?

It was for GT5. But with the paid content tied to the franchise or RttS, it more than likely won't happen. But you never know.

Yeah, the only way to move a locked saved before the cloud was the data transfer utility. You connect two PS3s with an ethernet cord and everything is moved to the new PS3 while everything gets deleted off the old PS3. The data transfer utility is found in the system settings.
