Yes, I do understand $50/yo covers much more than cloud storage.

However, I don't need all the other perks; I just want to keep franchise/RTTS files from past years (in the game) so that the stats won't get initialized at each new season. I know it's OCD, but someone like that wants to keep backups.

My main gaming activity currently is the Show and not much else, in fact try not to explore other games. (Oh gosh I hope I won't find games as addictive as the Show as they may totaly relegate me to my parents' basement...)

There isn't a reasonable option for such a user who just wants to keep files around safely, is it. I find that troubling.

Well, if you want to backup your save files for the Show, you'll have to purchase PS+. Nothing is going to change that. All the reasons have been stated why its done, its been pointed out that its not a Show only issue. If you only play the Show and nothing else and don't wanna pay for the PS+, then you're just SOL.

I think people know that other games are copy protected.

The issue is you are over 500 hours into the Franchise, and 142 games in making a run.

Then you lose it due to corruption or system failure.

Losing an action game save is far less hurtful than a Sports game Franchise or huge RPG save.

That's all. I can see both sides of the argument. And in this day an age, there can be better ways of handling this, instead of taking away common features from the end user. Go forward not backwards.

My big question is this: if they knew people would go nuts over this copy protected stuff like they did with GT5 (from what I'm reading from this thread), why did they even do it? They patched GT5 to unprotect the files due to the outrage, but then they release a pretty freakin' popular game in MLB The Show with files copy protected? Didn't they learn from their mistakes? GT5 is bigger then The Show, but that doesn't mean The Show is small either.

It kind of worries me that A) they can't patch it B) even if they can, why waste the time when you can put 50 more bucks into Sony's own pocket by having people forced to subscribe to PS+ for this one perk (cloud saves).

I'm with EnigmaNemesis in that we have to hold off in our accusastions, but damn if it doesn't reek.

I've had my fat 80GB PS3 since January 2009. I use it pretty extensively, games, web browsing, MLB.tv (soon!). It's getting louder every day and I fear it's about to expire. Not being able to back up my stuff without paying 50$ irks me a tad.

Hey everyone. Havent bought the Show yet this year after buying the last 3 years on the first day.

Gotta say, this sucks.

I am not hooked up to the internet at my house and now I have no way to save the only portion of the game I play, offline franchise.

Basically, this is pure B.S. Make it sound how ever you want but the bottom line is you are taking options away from the consumer, and making them pay as their only choice. If this was Madden or EA, people would be going insane...

I too, see both sides. I understand Sony's want to build revenue but at the same time it seems very coincidential that it happens around the time MLB the Show comes out. One of THE crowning jewels of the playstation.

Although it is very interesting that KZ3 saves aren't protected.

That said, I'll be signing up...on payday anyway

In the case of the Show, I'm guessing its due to something like the Advanced Stats pack for franchise. Once d/l, those items become part of the save file since they are part of a normal game mode(franchise mode in this case).

It better not be for that Advanced Stats pack that should be part of the game to begin with. They are charging us for basic mathematical equations, I can literally program stats into the game if I had access to the code.

Secondly, lock the save to a PSN account so if you give your friend a save that unlocks DLC, he can't play on his PSN.

thats what cloud saves are doing. In fact, if I remember correctly, going forward, for those who have cloud storage, games will save directly to it, bypassing the HDD all together.

I have no issue with cloud saves being part of PSN+ but we should have the option to backup every game save to USB. There is no reason to lock any save to the SYSTEM, locking saves to a PSN account is fine but that can be done without "saving to the cloud" like on a PC you can make it so that only one user has access to a file. Users should have control over their saves; no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

That would kind of be stupid to default saves to the cloud over the HD, since the HD is so much faster. My upload is only 40KB/s so by doing the math, it would take just over 9 minutes to upload a Season/RTTS/Franchise file (1024 KB / 40 KB = 25.6 seconds for 1 megabyte then multiply by 22). Yeah, no thanks, to the option to go straight to the cloud.

Following the initial shock of not being able to copy your saved game files, I am just glad there is another option. Whether it's worth the money is up to the individual. For me it is because it allows me to share a franchise or season file, which is what I was after. This reopens a part of the game for me that a week ago I thought was going to lose.

The only thing I don't get is the 24 hour rule. Why?

I've already used up 50MB of the 150MB available on a franchise file and a Road to the Show file.

I mean, cloud storage is nice and all, but try implementing some really nice features and maybe people will subscribe. Paying $50/year for discounts and 150MB of storage for backup (when you don't have another option) isn't exactly the best. I get 1GB of storage for free with the Steam cloud. Can we get a party system? How about shadow copying those cloud backups so I don't have to manually do it?

I apologize for being negative, but I'm not going to thank them for allowing me to backup my data when I pay them $50.

So I got Plus for the Cloud game save service and I now own the Show, so I'm happy with this compromise!
