Re: No Copying of Saved Game Files Kills Me...
I am not going to lie. When you look at it without knowing all the information, it does seem a little underhanded that a Franchise file which gets hundreds of hours invested, is now copy protected, the same week they roll out a paid cloud saving storage.
I am sure there is more to it... but if you are an average gamer, this is how it presents itself.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

to be fair, Cloud Saves have been talked about for quite some time now. And if Sony was looking to copy protect saves in order to drum up business for PS+, why didn't they lock Killzone 3 saves?I am not going to lie. Its just a coincidence. I understand people don't wanna pay the $50 subscription for backup saves, but for myself, who was thinking about signing up anyways, the addition of cloud saves, just made my decision that much easier.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I am not arguing that. I am saying for the average "ill informed". And there are more of those than ones "in the know". We see it here with upset comments about features they expected in the game that was known to NOT be in the game for months.to be fair, Cloud Saves have been talked about for quite some time now. I am going to be signing up as well, for that feature, and the fact it is all supposed to work with the NGP as well. And all the other bonuses you get are worth it.
GT5 was copy protected, the community went nuts, because of the same time investment that is put into that game, and they patched it so you can copy them. Hopefully something can be remedied for this as well. The investment is just too great for someone to have to start over cause of a save corruption or system failure. Especially in this day and age. We should not be taking steps backwards.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

Re: No Copying of Saved Game Files Kills Me...
MLB '11 and GT5 are not the first games to have copy protected saves on the PS3. I believe one of the NCAA football games had copy protected saves as well as one other game(maybe SVR?), but am not sure. Ill informed or not, doesn't make the accusation that they simply did this in order to get $50 out of people anymore true.
PS3 fans knew that cloud saves were coming and it happened to come now. I'm actually glad it released now vs later in the year, that way I can guarantee that my franchise is backed up.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I know this. I have about 12 copy protected games on the PS3. If more and more games start coming out copy protected than normal, we will reserve judgment till then. All I am saying is that I can understand how some can see it a certain way, whether we knew about it for months ahead of time or not.
The Show has never been copy protected before, so if it becomes a trend, then it is definitely a cause for concern. Either way. Copy protected saves, especially ones that take this much investment of play time, stinks. Only for the "knock on wood" moments of security.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

That is why judgment will be reserved until this becomes a trend.
Anyhow, have you tried backing up the Franchise file to the cloud? What I want to know is, was it smooth even though it is a large file to upload?Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

The two have nothing to do with other. Period. The PS Cloud has been talked about for years... its pretty much just a coincidence.
PS+ gives enough perks to gain subscribers w/o using backup ability for a game that isn't even there largest seller (if that was the case, no way GT5 would have got patched to unlock saves.) - and with that, its not out of the question that The Show can/will get patched just the same.
My PS+ subscription paid for itself after a few months of perks. Long before we knew when the cloud would be available.

Re: No Copying of Saved Game Files Kills Me...
From the "ill-informed" side, I don't mean to accuse Sony. If business requires it, it needs to happen. No business, no games...
Unfortunate thing is that we don't have choices. Right now it's either $50/yo to get a few files backed up or no peace of mind at all. Heck, the current tenant insurance for my apartment isn't much more expensive than that and covers a lot more ground.
$50/yo for just 150MB of backup storage is not economical at all.Comment

Yes I've backed up my franchise to it. No different than saving it to a flashdrive or the HDD for that matter.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

PS+ isn't charging $50 just for 150MB of backup storage. They provide quite a few more features than that, most notably the 90 minute game trials, where you are allowed to try out certain games for 90 minutes to decide whether you want to buy or not. From the "ill-informed" side, I don't mean to accuse Sony. You get a lot more with PS+ like betas, free games and content, full game trials, discounts, qore electronic magazine, exclusive demos, and now... cloud data saving. It's not like you're paying just for the saves. I can easily list $50 worth of content I've received since I subscribed day 1.From the "ill-informed" side, I don't mean to accuse Sony. But wouldn't all of those features, minus the saving, still be worth in the neighborhood of $50?
The Show is a pretty important part of my leisure time. I sort of feel cheated not having the ability to back my franchise up.
For instance, it's NOT illegal to backup and burn copy-written music, as long as you are the principal owner and the burns are for your own personal backup use.
I'm astonished, that for $60, I don't have the right to...not burn a backup copy...but backup a SAVE DATA FILE!!! Not the game!!! A SAVE FILE!!!
I'm frustrated. Does anyone know where to at least find an explanation? I'm sure there's a good one. I'd mainly just like to know why...?Comment

Re: No Copying of Saved Game Files Kills Me...
PS+ has always been $50.
When a game mode(offline) allows users to purchase DLC for a price and use it in their game without doing anything special, you'll see the game be copy protected. The reason being, I can save the file to a friends flashdrive and he would have access to the DLC that I paid for and he would be able to use it for free.I'm frustrated. Does anyone know where to at least find an explanation? I'm sure there's a good one. I'd mainly just like to know why...?
In the case of the Show, I'm guessing its due to something like the Advanced Stats pack for franchise. Once d/l, those items become part of the save file since they are part of a normal game mode(franchise mode in this case).
Again, the Show is not the only game that prohibits the copying of saved files. I'm 99% sure(I can check my system) that Mafia II was copy protected. Its just a coincidence that Cloud Saves and the Show released the same week.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
