The save file in question is locked to the hardware, they are not linked to your PSN like the classic stadiums. If they were linked to your PSN, you would have to be signed in order to play Franchise... which is not the case.

You can swap HDs but it will format any HD you put in the PS3. I tried to put my HD in a friend's PS3 to get my save files after a YLOD but it prompts you to format the HD. I pretty sure all PS3s use the same size HD (laptop HDs).

I've been considering an upgrade of my PS3 hard drive, and I might do it now because of this. If it would be impossible for me to transfer my saved files from The Show, I'm better off getting the upgrade over with before I get too deep into a franchise.

In this case, you would still be ok, since you are copying all data over. It's basically a full data restore and console activation.

Basically, you can thank the GeoHotz of the world for the more stringent file lockdowns. If there is some type of monetary feature tied to a game that could possibly be exploited, Sony (PSN) will most likely lock it down. It's definitely not a trophy thing.

Not to say its etched in stone, so hopefully SCEA can get their parent company to budge a little.

Not a big deal to me since I am not a big franchise guy. So long as my rosters can be backed up (this is where most of my time will be anyway) in the roster vault (if I ever finish it, lol) I can always just download it to the new PS3.

Even if I do start playing a season, it would be just that, a single season, and I will start over.

This is a huge deal for me.

With a relatively old fat boy, one can never be sure when the time will come...

I'm not one to jump on SCEA or PSN or whoever's decision this was, but I can't help but walk away from this with the opinion that for $60, I should have the right to back up MY files.

Whether hacking or the weekly prizes or the trophies are the reason for this, their must be a way to protect the integrity of them without stripping the consumer of risk-free back up...in the event of disaster. Especially in a game that is designed to be played for hundreds of hours if one pleases.

Well this is a deal breaker for me. I guess I'll be getting MLB 2K11 this year. The practice of locked saved games needs to go the way of the dodo and the only way to help end it is by buying the other game.

Even if it just meant copy protecting other things and not your offline franchises. If you can still copy roster files than obviously they can pick and choose which files are protected.

I don't care one way or the other. I only play offline season on just one of my 2 ps3s, I just feel for those that use(d) the copy feature.

This isn't true. For NHL 11 we couldn't even download uploaded rosters from the guy that always makes them. The reason---PS3 trophies...

PS said that players were exploiting trophy achievements...
I mean really? Disable roster and or file share due to trophies....

Yeah, I don't get the "one and done" comments either as the complaints are about backing up saves and not what you can save. I mean, I'd be just as frustrated losing a franchise in game 160 of year 1 as I would game 30 of year 2...so length isn't an issue (that's what she said).

To answer your question though, this has nothing to do with whether or not you can play franchise or even how much you can save it. It's just that we apparently can't copy our saves to an outside source (which sucks).

Well if you have fun with 2K11 then go for it.

Anyways it's no big deal for me. It sucks for those concerned but it's a concession I'm willing to make to play The Show.

Lastly..what if the PS3 wasn't "online"?? Would it still get locked? Or is it part on the firmware?
Have no clue as I've never worried about these things.

Of course you can still play franchise.
I think (some) people are totally misunderstanding here.
You can play franchise...you can SAVE franchise files...the only thing you can't do is move them to a USB drive to either save on your PC(or the USB drive) as a backup file or move to another PS3.

You CAN still save/edit/move/transfer/pour over/stare at
                              ROSTER SAVES
PLAYER SAVES....these can still be transferred to a USB drive and moved anywhere at will.

For whatever reason...it's franchise files that cannot be moved.

My reference to "one and done" was in regard to online season play...you can only play one season and then you're done. I am not interested in that.

I still can't wait to get this game, I'm just a little disappointed about not being able to transfer saved franchises. Playing RTTS is well worth my $60. Next year my fingers are crossed for online franchise.
