This game is the perfect combination of simulator and playable game. I always hear about OTTP, but to be honest I prefer this because I get to PLAY with my team I create.

I played HH2003 up until 2007 when I got a PS3..And this game.... Trust me when I say this.....MLB2011 is the BEST game hands down. These devs don't get the praise they deserve from the community.
I would have to agree with you.

I have had a "love/hate" relationship with OOTP for a few years. Its never really been about the raw "sim" aspects of OOTP but it has always been the sense of detachment I have had when interacting with my club. I really believe that this years iteration of the show has substantially closed the gap for the pure "sim" GMs running around.

I really think its hard for some of the people not into the "pure sim" aspects of Baseball gaming to realize how close SCEA is to making the greatest BB game ever....period....regardless of type of playstyle.

They deserve much credit, and I look forward to SCEA's continued pushing of the envelope to make "The Show" one stop shopping for all BB gaming needs.

As an avid OOTP player I have to agree on everything said here. I feel more connected to my players being able to see them and almost make up a personality for the players. I had a 1B I drafted and brought through the minors in 09, Trenton "Muddy" Waters was his name. He was a stud of a player. Consistently got 100 RBIs, .320 or so batting average and had admirable defense. I really became a fan of his.

Actually I can think of many players I've grown to love of my franchises and even RTTS careers. (I imagine my guy becomes best friends with others he grows up in the minors with in RTTS) Lindsay Sargent (08) hit 75 HRs one year purely simmed and went ton to hit 1000HRs. He was a one of a kind player too. Oh I could go on forever about the pitchers etc too.

Anyway, as soon as these few FA bugs are fixed the only real thing I would want that could completely replace OOTP for me would be a full record book (team and league) and all-time list. I'd pay $60 for only roster updates if that were the case and anything else they wanted to throw in (Co-Op RTTS, Expansion Teams, Fictional Teams/Leagues) would all be icing on a perfect cake.

          I agree with this completely.

This game is heading in the direction, "us" , simmers are wanting it to go. It was not long ago that I would laugh about having a sim BB experience outside of OOTP, let alone on a console game like "The Show".

This game is closing that gap rapidly. I truly believe they are a few small bugs away form providing that experience.

I do, agree, however, that some of the DB features of PC sims will be better than the consoles......that is until nex gen when there will be little or no difference between consoles and PC

            Re: Franchise Issues

In my opinion an equally important issue is a bunch of the player contracts. They are almost all inaccurate and way to low. Howard only making 4.5 mil, Zito only making 3.1, Rowand making 1.3, Fielder 3.3, A Rod 13.3...

It seems to me that they had to input a contract value how hard is it to get it right. I know some contracts pay more later but couldn't they average it then? For a franchise Zito and Rowand are crippiling and Giants are going to have to make some moves with Lincecum, and Cain approaching FA and Posey and Madbum hitting arbitration. With the values set so low they aren't a problem. And for some of these other stars their big deals should make it tough to keep or sign a new player, like the Cards are facing now with Puljos. Hopefully next year they get that right.

The MLBPA are the ones not letting them put actual contracts into the game. I'd have to say that also with performance payouts etc too that would make actual contracts even more difficult.

But on this case don't blame the developers because if they don't do what the MLBPA wants we don't have real players in the game.

How do you know this. I would be stunned if the MLBPA is making the devs use incorrect contract info. Does anyone know if the contract values the same on MLB 2k11?

                    Re: Franchise Issues

I haven't followed the thread from start to finish so disregard if I'm repeating things already said, but with 20+ pages it's clear many people are tuned in to these major franchise issues.

I find it rather humorous the way some of the posters here are so gung-ho about defending the developers in regards to these issues. It's almost like they're scared to defy them in fear of losing that personal connection they make us feel like we have. The developers are clearly blowing smoke here. These problems are big, and they've been here for a while. They were probably never addressed and likely won't be addressed this year. Their priorities are not where most people on this forums priorities are. What percent of MLB 11' consumers do we represent? I don't want to even hazard a guess, but I'm going to say it's low, very low. The majority of consumers are going to be enticed by fancy new graphics, game modes, and nifty additions to gameplay, not if players are being tendered proper contracts, if teams are making realistic roster decisions, etc. Most users likely wouldn't even make it to 2013 of franchise, and if they did, most of them will likely not notice these unrealistic issues.

With that said, people need to expect this year to be similar to last. These issues are here to stay for another year. The developers are listening, but likely will be spending more time making sure Jeter's eye color is correct then running deep simulations on franchise and fixing the plethora of bugs within.

This isn't deception, or scamming, or anything like that. This is just a business. Would you rather please the majority or minority of your customers?

My advice? Either don't buy the game(like me) and hope something changes for next year, or accept all the cool things the game has to offer and either look past or workaround all the issues within.

                      CG,

I sure as heck don't kiss dev or Show bootay like some on here do, and I speak my mind to help get a better product.
I see the flaws and I voice them proudly, no blind Show love here. Don't get me wrong I buy it every year and love it every year. I think bringing the negatives to the attention of those who can do something about it is huge.

Now as far as the bolded part, your 100% wrong. Thats all I have to say on that.

As far as what % we represent, Ramone said we [and the official show community site] are 5 to 10% of the user base, so we are a small piece of the sales pie. But, dont be mistaken, we are not ignored. Surely we won't be in regards to this issue.

                      It'll get taken care of.

Well be stunned. Because they are not allowed to use correct contract info. The MLBPA/MLB will not allow it.

Don't you think they would, if they could?

So I hate to derail this bizarre mess of attacking and defending some of the most consumer oriented and honest devs in the mainstream sports gaming business but I was wondering if any of the people who are simming into the future could comment on whether or not taking 30 team control is actually a sufficient work-around. Do prospects still overdevelop when training is nerfed manually or do issues still pop up? I have no problem basically hand-holding the AI so stars are extended but if there are simply too many cheap, productive players that's a problem. What's the word?

Waivers were put in, Waiver trades, 30 team control ect. so with so much new code it is possible things got a little screwy, but I do know that there was not a bug with FA after a few years......

BUT it IS a video game and there will be some odd occurrences. In 09 sometimes young prospects were not signed for whatever reason.

This probably will be a MOOT point because they are aware of the issue and more than likely will be corrected.
You're right on about this. I just yanked '09 out last night and went 5 years deep (as fast as possible was an entire season in 30 minutes....can't do that with '10 and '11).

I think you're on tho something here. I think the training is not the main cause of the problem. The way the game treats all players as FA after their frirst contract is up may have more to do with it. Ecample:

In the game, you draft an 18 year old player, sign him for 3 years at X price. If he never makes it to your 40-man roster, he is a FA at the end of that 3 years.

In real life, you draft an 18 year old player and regardless of minor league or major league contract status or signing bonus, the player is under team control for 6 years, unless they are added to the 40-man roster before the end of year 3, at which point the closk starts running and they can only be optioned to the minors for three straight years before hitting the waiver wire.

It's quite a flaw, and I think it has more to do with the 2013/14 issue more than training. Training definitely creates statistical issues later on though. Also, I think the game only taking into account ratings, and not statistics, seems to create unbalanced contracts later in the game. Like paying a 22 year old pitcher who never saw the majors $14 mil a year, but paying Matt Cain $7 mil a year.
