Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition

hey guys, I'm looking for a decent trade location for Carlos Beltran and Jose Reyes, I'm not playing as the Mets but I am controlling all 30 teams and I would like the Mets to properly rebuild. Now some of the trades I am considering are...

Reyes, (B potential player) to Twins for Aaron Hicks, Franciso Liriano

Beltran and possibly Fernando Martinez (B) to the Yankees for Gary Sanchez (A), Brett Gardner and Manny Banuelos (A)

Reyes to the Giants for Matt Cain

Beltran to Tampa Bay for James Shields, Felipe Lopez and BJ Upton

Reyes to Detroit for Rick Porcello, Ryan Raburn

What do you guys think, any suggestions for possibly trades to other teams

a hot topic right now (valid or not) is Reyes going to San Fran. It is hard for me to figure who the giants would trade but likely someone in the Belt/Bumgardner group as the headliner.

As for Beltran. Honestly i'm not sure his value is as high as you're suggesting. I also don't think the mets would trade Martinez if they're rebuilding...even though his star isn't as bright anymore. Sanchez, Gardner and Banuelos is a HUGE return. Heck they could probably get talks going for Felix Hernandez with a deal like that.

Maybe Beltran fits in with the rockies...for something like Ian Stewart? Maybe to the A's for Weeks.

Well reason I have the Yanks giving up so much is they are behind in the Al East behind both tampa (8 games) and the red sox (6 games), in late july. Swisher is having a terrible year and the Mets have close to the worse record in baseball but Beltran is hitting .303 with 15 HR and 63RBIs. I'll admit I really want to trade Beltran to my Pirates team right now, but seems a bit too soon to give up on my current outfielders.

The other trade I'm considering for beltran is Beltran and a prospect to Tampa for James Shield (3-6 5.36) and BJ Upton (.287 14HR)

obviously it is your franchise...you can do whatever you'd like

I actually think that second trade is even less likely to happen. I do expect Shields and Upton to be traded by the Rays over the next year or two but Upton especially should return good value. If the Rays are in first in your franchise they'd be even less likely to trade Shields and Upton. They might consider trading one of their young pitching arms but for a team without much money to spend it is unlikely they would. More likely they would go with Upton, Joyce, Jennings in the OF and stick with their rotation. Maybe add some RP

Has anyone noticed that FA can't be traded? I had a method where I could cut players and sign them out of FA to LTC, but the Game AI trade logic shows no interest in players like Ben Sheets and others signed out of FA. So if you sign a player in FA , better get used to Manual trades.

Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread** 2011 Edition

In my RTTS, i'm a 3B/IF Util Guy i got traded just before the all star break from Arizona who drafted me to the Oakland A's organisation for An 'A' Pot SP who was younger and better than me (i started my career at my real age, 22yo), as well as an 'A' pot RP and a 'B' pot Catcher... Now this may not look a lot for the A's to give up for an 'A' pot 3B who is AA ready at best, but now i'm in the MLB team, 7th best 3B in the majors, leading the ROTY race with just over a month to go in the regular season and am probably single handedly keeping my team in the race for postseason birth... I'm sure i would be leading MVP and most batting categories too except i only got the call up just before the all-star break and am about 150-200 AB short of the other leaders and the 3.1 AB/game requirement... Now no real question or point here but i thought it was an interesting story where a somewhat lopsided trade ended up being pretty even...

What do you guys think of an A prospect a B prospect and Ivan Rodriguez for Carlos Santana. Also ever noticed that you can trade nick castallanoes DET 3B age 19 B pot and a C or B overall for Mike Moustakas and Hosmer?

I don't think the Indians would entertain any offers for Santana. Unless of course that A prospect is Strasburg

That's great!! Signing FA's just to trade them is one of the cheesiest moves in sports games and isn't realistic at all. Because if that team wanted the FA they would have tried to sign him while he was a FA. Why would they wait until another team picks the FA up before making a move? Then they would have to give players up instead of just signing them. Besides, if your going to use tactics like signing a FA just to turn around and immediately trade them, you might as well have manual trades on, IMO. Again all around great move. I couldn't be happier to hear that.

Not saying I would trade a player as soon as I signed him out of FA, but on the other hand you do want that option down the road. Say I signed Ben Sheets to a 4 year deal at the start of a franchise. He pitches well for 2 years, but then there's no interest in acquiring him via trade when his performance goes south. Your only option then would be to cut him or like you say, move him with a manual trade.

I am about to start the off season after I finish up with game 7 of the world series tonight. After that, win or lose, I will have some decisions to make. I want to re-sign MVP Troy Tulowitzki to a 5-7 year deal at about $20 mil per. That will mean I have to start cutting some salary somewhere. What I need to know is if I should exercise my options for Anderson and Bailey ($10mil and $8 mil respectively) and look to trade them during the season, don't exercise the options and try to get draft picks for them, or don't exercise the option and try to re-sign them to roughly the same amount or less for several years. I am pretty sure I can replace both of those guys without hurting my team too badly. I have some pretty good talent in AAA at the moment and they aren't getting any younger. I also have to make the call on re-signing Kurt Suzuki, as his contract is up. I think I will make him an offer of around $7.5 mil per. If he doesn't sign, Weiters, Jesus Montero, and Yadier all sat a year in FA so I can pick up one of those guys as a replacement. Thoughts?

I am finishing up season 5, so there has been a lot of movement. Anderson, Bailey and Suzuki I obviously started the game with. Those catchers were not signed in the 2013 free agent market, possibly because they wanted too much, possibly because they were type A free agents, or both. So now they are available to anyone and no longer Type A since they sat the whole year without playing for any team. The year before that, Greinke and Soria did not get signed. So I picked both guys up very cheap ($5 mil and $750K respectively) without losing draft picks. I figure in this fantasy world of mine, they needed Tommy John so no one wanted to sign them. Maybe those catchers needed shoulder or knee surgery. I got Tulo, who had been traded to the Phillies, in February after the Phillies pulled their multi-year offer when they lost some arbitration hearings. A bunch of teams released top players at the same time but released players are not available to sing until spring training. I signed Tulo to a one year deal for a mere $2 mil. I figure I will make the same kind of one year offer to any player I want or need that didn't play the whole year. That way the player can get recycled back into the market the next year without retiring due to poor free agent market. So that is where things lie.

I have no plans to re-sign Greinke. He sucked for me and is a type A so I get picks for him. I will probably low ball Soria since he didn't close for me. If he signs with someone else, I get those picks. Now if I let Anderson and/or Bailey go, I can get those picks as well. Since I have never seen a draft that stacked yet, I might be better served to exercise their options and then trade them in the season or maybe even during the off season in January when all the trades seem to happen.

Are you sure Greinke or Soria won't accept arbitration? I didn't get picks for Felipe Lopez because he accepted arbitration most of the time I offered it in my trial runs.

I would probably keep at least one of your pitchers as trade bait. I always like to have someone decent to throw out in a trade at midseason, when it's more obvious what your needs are. I could use someone like that now to pick up another starting pitcher.

I'd look at a trade, unless you've done a good job of scouting. The draft can be a bit of a crapshoot
