You're right, but tale that, and add it to the amount of time I spend in the off season signing others teams players for them and I become underwhelmed with the game. It's just too much work. Maybe it's just me, but I don't want to have to do that.

If I have 30 minutes to play and I know I am going to spend all 30 doing the draft for 30 teams while consistently pressing X-square-X 29 times per round, then I feel as though I have wasted that entire 30 minutes.

In the end, we shouldn't have to be the ones finding a way to make it at least a somewhat rational franchise mode. It's just bothersome. I purchased the game this year based on the assumption that this was all fixed and I can go back to working on my team. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Now I can only hope it becomes fixed.

I'm starting to get annoyed as well and I haven't even been playing the show for long. It plays a great game of baseball but franchise just seems so broken and that's the main reason I even got the game. I'm honestly thinking about just getting OOTP to satisfy my franchise urge.

It's not really SCEA's fault if this never gets fixed, I'm sure they WANT TO. But the producers might want them to focus on issues that will make them more money and that means add content and forget about relatively "small" glitches like this. It's just business and one reason I quit dreams of going into gaming since it's so controlled by the higher-ups who want money money money money money freaking money.

I use 30 team control (with 1 team having my profile, the others with dummy profiles with everything on auto) Your team can have it's stuff set however, you want everything on manual, go ahead, I used auto for the sims for the sake of speed. Play your season out like you would normally, if you want to inspect pending trades every day to make sure crazy things don't happen, by all means. That stuff is up to the player playing really. Budgets on or off don't seem to matter (I only did a couple years with budgets on, the only thing I saw was for whatever reason, a couple teams had 90/90 rosters as of the start of the offseason, I just went into their roster and released the lowest rated guy on the entire roster to open up a slot and make it 89/90)

Once the offseason hits I would do the following:

Handle your team however you like, tender, non-tender guys, offer arbitration, don't offer arbitration, it's your team, do what you like.

Make offers for FA's as per normal.

OPTIONAL STEP: stop the sim the day before you have to have all arbitration offers made and go through all teams and if you feel a team should offer a guy arbitration but have not, make an offer for arbitration for them. I haven't done this in my sims yet, but it's something I've considered due to people reporting arbitration offers vanishing.

Proceed as normal till Dec 2nd. On Dec 2nd go through every team, and make offers to every "contract renewable" player on a team. *** I haven't played around with offers much, I've been offering the default contract offer that shows up, I think you can change them all to lowball offers of 1yr/50k and it won't have any adverse effect. 8/10 guys don't take the default offer before Feb 28th anyways, but making all offers 1yr/50k will pretty much ensure all of them will not accept the offer by Feb 28th.*** The other thing that you can play with is having an age limit on your offers, say, anyone 30 years old and over even if they are renewable, do not offer a contract and let them fall off into FA and either rot or get signed on their own merits.

Once you have made the offers, proceed through the offseason as normal, and on Feb 28th, or 29th if it's a leap year, the CPU will renew everyone that hasn't accepted the offer you made them on or before Dec 2nd. You obviously have to manually renew the players are your team anytime after Feb 15th if you have your profile setting on manual for that stuff.

This is the basic workaround. Thus far it seems to work. Hopefully SCEA will have a patch that takes care of this soon!
This rocks, seems to fix the problem, and doesn't take a whole lot of extra time to implement. Thanks so much guys.

My grandma always said, "be careful what you wish for." A NEW franchise mode might not be any better, in all likely hood it will have more bugs. For next season I would just like to see the bugs ironed out, more stats, some TLC I guess.
I agree with you. The franchise mode for this game is better than any other sports game of its kind. It just has these little problems that need to be addressed and fixed. If it was started all over then there would be all sorts of problems.

The Show is the best baseball game ever made and only MVP 2005 is even close. Once the developers get these smaller issues resolved out for franchise mode then this game will be top notch in my opinion. Having said that, there appears to be workarounds for the problems with this mode now anyhow. It just takes a bit of work to fix it.

While I understand your point, and also wish we didn't have to find workarounds, you're really not wasting a ton of time using them. Sure, you "waste" some time doing the draft, but how long does it take you to get through a season? If you're playing enough to get through multiple seasons quickly, I doubt a few mins is a big issue. If it takes you three plus months to play a season, what is 30 mins every few months...

As for the offseason, its the same principle. It may end up taking 2-3 hrs to get through an offseason, but again, its not like you're doing it every day, week, or even month for the most part.

Me and you are on the same page but I font have the time to run 30 practice test just to get one franchise in before I'm tired of the game. The assumption part of your post is the same way I've been feeling so I haven't even opened the game yet but I've been tempted

Single team control with appropriate logic is definitely the hope here, but when I just arbitrarily signed a bunch of dudes to low, long contracts, and it seemed to help for a few years, I figured I would investigate that a little more. I don't really like it as a work around, but if it makes how much I would need to involve myself in other's affairs, I may use it.
This may sound ridiculous, but in 1-team control is it possible to change your own team??
What I'm thinking is that I could begin my franchise with PHI, and in the beginning of the offseason, make my offers to my own team. Then switch to, say, the Mets and then do the (renewal) offers for them. Then subsequently follow the steps with the other 28 teams. Then go back to controlling my Phillies. My hope is that while switching to another team, that it wouldn't screw up my Phillies offers once I return to controlling my own team. (((Of course my main purpose in doing this is to ensure proper renewal of young players, while keeping the proper trade logic behind the 1-team control.))))

Sorry if it is posted recently, but cannot find if there really is a glitch/bug regarding compensation for free agents with the draft. It was stated early on. Has anyone stopped their sim to see if the draft accurately gives the correct compensation pick or if any at all to lost FAs?

I am assuming that once this is patched it will apply to already existing franchises, with that said would it be best to play as 1 team or 30 team control? There would be no reason to control 30 teams if the fa glitch is fixed, correct? The orginizational philosophy doesn't change on 30 team right now does it?

                          Preference really.
I like that I'm able to go in and do something...anything that I think should be done for any organization.....just my personal take.

All things here have been noted....so IF there is a patch..... I would expect 30 team to run ala 1 team and vice versa(at least that's the theory!!!)

Finished a couple years of my 30 team budget on sim. using the workaround I used for budget off appears to work fine. There were a couple guys in FA in the spring that were late 20's and B potential, probably should have been signed, but, a couple isn't too bad.

One thing that did crop up was a couple teams for whatever reason at the beginning of FA allready had 90/90 rosters, and wouldn't even let them make a lowball offer to renewable guys. I just went to their roster control and released the lowest ovr guy on the roster (made sure it was also a D or F pot too) and then I Was able to continue to make lowball offers to all the renewable guys. Not sure if that was fluke, or due to budgets being on.

Either way, I think we have a working 30 team control workaround for now. Band-aid it might be, but it's something. I'm headed out to take care of some personal business for a while. But when I get home, I"ll start on Single Team control sims.
Thanks for the response, i was just kind of wondering because i wasnt seeing much about if they where still progressing a bit to fast. thanks again

so, if i'm reading this right, for 1 team control, the only thing you can really do that might help a little is to turn off the budgets... correct?

and it's still probably gonna be a little screwy with that, right?

In single team control, it looks like you can't fix or seed the CPU into anything. I've been trying over the last night now, and the CPU just doesn't tender contracts to everyone it should. For a reason I can't figure out. So, budgets off helps make sure guys get signed before spring training. But it doesn't stop the CPU from letting young under control players go into the FA pool on Dec 3rd, to be snatched up by other teams for well more than the 400k they should be renewed at.

So, it's a matter of if you can stand having young talent moving all over the place in the offseason, but not rotting in FA like would happen with budgets on.

It doesn't fix the root issue, but if you close your eyes and pretend...

Hopefully SCEA gets a patch out that addresses it soon and we all live happily ever after in our little franchise worlds
