Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
I put a few new tips in there.
A secondary franchise save problem fix and mrs844224's budget guide.

I'm trying to see what's up with your problem. I'm having trouble recreating what's going on with your franchise. I can change the profile associations/default profile and options without a problem......but yes...it is a bit more "convoluted" than last year it seems.
I'll keep trying.

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
any luck on what might be my problem? I created franchise after franchise tonight trying to figure this out. i created franchises using the CPU1 as the default and others with the Tigers as the default. I tried using the OSM roster and the current rosters. I tried leaving the DH on auto, saying yes to CPU roster control. I basically tried switching up every option i could think of to try and make this work. Still no luck. Whatever I choose as the default before I start my franchise is the profile for all 30 teams and if i try to change the Tigers to a different profile, it forces me to apply the changes and switches the other 29 teams as well. It shouldn't be this hard. I know there is some small little thing I must be missing.
Okay....Let me just make sure I'm understanding what you want.
You want the Tigers as one profile and the other 29 as a second one. You want the Tigers profile as your default profile....
If this is correct...BEFORE you start your franchise go and make your two different profiles with the settings you like(make sure the GAMEPLAY OPTIONS that you prefer are the ones in your Profile1(default).
Profile1(Tigers) and Profile2(CPU teams)....Set Profile1 as your default.
Now when you start your franchise after you choose NEW franchise and choose which roster you come up on the TEAM SELECT screen.....hit SQUARE to select all teams....your default profile will show up for each team.
Now go to each team and highlight them and use the right stick to assign the next profile(Profile2....you CPU settings) by clicking right on the right analog stick)
This should give you CPU team options to the 29 teams...but the overall gameplay options to your league with your default profile.

Maybe I can change the profile once I'm in the franchise and I'm just not doing it right to keep it from switching all 30 teams to the same? near as I can tell if i change the profile of the Tigers from profile 2 to "Tigers" and do nothing else, the change won't take. I have to hit use as default or change something in my options/settings. If i do change something it asks me if I want to apply changes or apply changes and set "tigers" as default. Obviously if i choose the 2nd option then the other 29 teams now have the Tiger profile again. But if I choosed apply changes it simply switches me back to profile 2. The changes I made in the "tigers" profile settings/options are saved and if I go back in and switch to that profile, those changes are there. It just won't let them take effect permanently unless I choose to make them the default, which once again switches the other 29 teams to the Tigers profile
I know this is long-winded but I'm trying to be precise as possibe to figure out what's going on. There has to be some small thing I'm missing that I'll be smacking my forehead over when I figure it out.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Knight- thank you for all the time and effort you have spent finding workarounds for the problems in franchise mode. In the long term with so many workarounds in the franchise mode, is it still enjoyable and worth getting now? I am a baseball fan but with the problems in FA, trades, promotions, questionable retirements and line ups, is this game an improvement upon last years and worth full price or should I just continue with 10 and wait until next year untill hopefully it's greatly improved?Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
In a 30 Team Franchise, if I manually set the lineups for each team, and I play a game with those lineups, then simulate a few, will the lineups I created stay as it is, or will the simulating cause the CPU to mess them all up?Comment

If you have already waited this long definitely do not buy 11 (unless you can get it on ebay or something for like $15).Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
I have a question if anyone can help.
I have a problem trying to expand my roster to 40 on September 1. I am in season 2 of my franchise. I put 40 players on my MLB roster and got ready to play my September 1st game, and got a message like "you have 40 players on your roster (25 max)" and I was unable to proceed.
Last year, I was unable to figure it out as well, but thought is was not a big deal. Finally, around mid-September, I was able to expand my roster; after my AAA team finished their playoffs. I had a big problem with my MLB playoff rosters, however, It said something like "you can not put this player on your Playoff roster because he was not on the MLB roster as of September 1st." I am afraid to play my September 1st game with only 25 players on my MLB roster.
How do I ensure I can pick any of my 40 man roster for my playoff roster?
Thanks!
edit: I found an old post that says the CPU automatically calls up the entire 40man roster after their minor league season. So, am I understanding this correct? For example, a few years ago, Tampa Bay brought up a 19 year old David Price for their playoff push, and playoff roster. If Price's minor league team was in the Playoffs, he would not have been eligible for the MLB playoff roster?Last edited by Black59Razr; 06-30-2011, 02:15 AM.Originally posted by banned memberMy [RTTS] goals are to improve my bunting and drag bunting. Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
After researching this on MLB.com, I think I answered my own question.
When TheShow says "MLB roster" when talking about eligibility for playoff rosters, they mean "25 man MLB roster". Even though the MLB roster has 40 people, you do NOT have the option to choose from 40 players to fill your 25 man roster.
I was trying to drop my 5th starter and/or long man, and add a position player or two for the playoffs.
Looks like the only way teams do that is promote these players on your MLB roster and then give them fake injuries. That way, you have more than 25 players to choose from.Originally posted by banned memberMy [RTTS] goals are to improve my bunting and drag bunting. In the REAL MLB, to be eligible for the playoffs, a player MUST be on the MLB Roster (NOT 40 MAN, but ACTIVE roster), or the Major League Disabled List ON August 31. These are the rules in real life.
where The Show gets it wrong, is replacing an already injured player who is on the D.L. with anyone on the 40 man roster. If the player is on the D.L., the game acts like he isn't on the Active Playoff roster, and cannot be replaced.
There is a work around for this, though. If a player is injured in September, DO NOT put him on the D.L. When you set your active 25 man playoff roster, make sure the injured player is on it. He can now be replaced by anyone on the 40 man roster, whether they are playoff eligible or not.
The Show surprisingly gets it pretty accurate. Playoff eligibility in real life is actually determined on August 31st of the season. If a player is not on the active 25 man roster, or the D.L. on that date, they aren't eligible. And you can only replace injured players with a player of the same position.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Someone suggested that I post this in this particular thread. Mods, apologies if you have to remove it. I will just copy/paste my original post below:
Originally posted by RyanLeaf16Last night I messed around and created a very simple trade chart. This morning, I decided to expand on it. I went through and counted every players potential - A to F.
After completing the count, I assigned certain point values for each player's potential. Players were separated into two categories, position players and pitchers. Pitchers were given an overall boost in trade value points. I then separated players into age categories. For position players it is 18-26, 27-32 and 33+. Pitchers are 18-28, 29-33 and 34+.
Now I'm sure this will cause some sort of debate or criticism. Mind you, this was done completely off the cuff. So, if you don't like it, you can change it however you wish and share with the community.
Also, I did this due to the amount of criticism found in this thread (some of it deservedly so). I also believe people don't fully realize just how much they may be taking advantage of the AI.
Finally, users should realize that this is based off of game generate potential ratings. Therefore, you should try to remove yourself from the real-life dynamic when using this. I know a lot of people have a lot of opinions about who would "never be traded." However, some potential ratings are actually a bit lower and may cause the video game version of a player to not be as valuable as the real-life counterpart. So please keep that in mind when using this tool. I am by no means claiming this to be perfect, but, I think it is a good starting point.
Now, how do I share this with you guys? PM me with your email addy and I will send it. I don't care to using file-sharing sites because quite frankly, I never will use it again and I don't see the need to sign-up for something that I will only use once.
Like I said, I don't mind if you change it or provide criticism. This work is far from perfect. Just be respectful and please share any changes or ideas with the community so we can all benefit from this.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Razr, this game actually gets it correct as to who is elligible to be on the playoff roster. Where it gets it wrong, is when replacing an INJURED player.

Also, I have an MLB CF on the 60 day DL. His injury is for another 5 months. I guess I already past up the opportunity to use the 'work around'. Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Thanks for the info! I gambled and sent a RP down and brought up a position player on August 31st. Now I have 11 pitchers. I also sent down another RP, and brought up a starter for my bullpen, to compensate for only having 11 arms.
