How does budget adjustment work? I'm the Pirates and I made a few trades to improve the team, but a lot of my other young, key players are on 1-year deals. If I have a good season (like make the playoffs or something), will my budget go up? If so, how much usually? Because I always get a message when I have a bad season, saying "Budget unchanged", so I'm assuming if I do well I'll actually have the $ to re-sign my FAs?

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Here's a tip on how I extend players on 1 year deals to long term deals in franchise.I did it on the 1st day of spring training:
1. Load your roster(Knight's)
2. Go to Roster Control
3. Go to Player Movement
4. Pick the player you want to switch(I used Drew Stubbs)and a bad player in one of the 3 FA lists. Put your player in FA and the bad player on your roster.
5. Press square to auto fix the roster before you leave roster control. You may have to fix lineups later.
6. Save the roster once you've put all the players you want to re-sign in FA (i called mine R.
7. Start a new franchise with the R roster(or whatever you want to name it)
8. Go to FA once your franchise starts. Cut the bad player and sign your player in FA. Drew Stubbs was in FA and I was able to sign him to a 6 year, 17.88 million dollar deal.
Are you seasoned Vets saying that every single team controlled Franchise will eventually experience the player bug? I'm 11 games in and contemplating starting over with the 30 team fix after reading this. Any advice would be appreciated.Last edited by heater26_99; 04-04-2011, 06:57 PM.Comment

I noticed something interesting using my method. I put Francisco Cordero and Brandon Phillips in FA, and the Reds budget decreased from 87 million to 64 million. I still had 23 million under the cap though. Player salaries decreased from 64 million to 41 million.Comment

1. How this works/Where can I go to find out how to get the lineups set after spring training? Last year there was a franchise file is that Hustlin owls this year? Saw some on Sportsconnect but thought only could be done with franchise files or something.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
This post is awesome. I do need a littel advice though. Here is what I am looking for.
I want to:
control lineups/ rotations for all teams
control trades/FA for all teams
Allow for random injuries
Make edits to players on all teams (equipment, ratings, etc)
What would be the best user settings for this? I really want to make sure that the computer does not make ridiculous trades. I only want transactions that actually happen. Injuries are fine though. I also want to proceed as if each team is starting with a healthy, fully-functioning club.
Thanks for any helpComment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Just an update on my Roster Control re-signing method-Any player you sign to a LTC from FA won't be on the 40 man roster. You'll need to add them to the 40 man roster and move to MLB from the Manage Roster screen.Once you do that, you'll be able to set them in lineups and pitching rotation in spring training.Otherwise, they won't be able to participate in spring training and will be sent down to the minors after spring training.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
This should go on the front page. Seems like a viable workaround until the patch comes out. Quoted from the other thread.
not sure if anyone posted this but this is what i do. as soon as the 9th inning starts and the computer has his closer on the mound, i go into settings, switch the team select and pick the cpu's team, go into there bullpen and sit any Rp that is throwing. i then switch back to my team and im continously checking there pen. last night Rauch came in to close the game, i swtiched to CPU team, sat down both pitchers that were throwing. Rauch gave up a hit and they never got anyone up and never brought in anyone.
so to paraphrase: 9th inning, switch to CPU team, sit down anyone who is throwing in the bullpen for the cpu's team. switch back to your team and PLAY BALLOriginally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Of all the professions, after all, few people are less suited to be suddenly thrown into the public eye than chefs. We're used to doing what we do in private, behind closed doors.Comment

I believe so. I think the deeper you go in the playoffs, the more your budget will increase. You won't get any increase if you fail to make the playoffs though.

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
I believe budgets are determined once you load up whatever roster set you are using. I once added all the Silver HOF players to the Royals and had a payroll budget of over $300 million. So if you use your workaround, you may be handicapping yourself later on down the road.
Did some more testing and the roster you load does have an effect on budget. I'll sim to the offseason later and compare what you can sign players starting out compared to the offseason.Last edited by Mike3207; 04-07-2011, 02:51 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Ok, did a test with default Knight Roster (ver 4) and a customized roster set where SP Mike Leake, SP Travis Wood, CF Drew Stubbs, and SP Edison Volquez started in FA. Knights default had 87 million budget and custom 79 million.I simmed to the 1st offseason with Ver.4:
Knight Version 4-1st Offseason:
CF Drew Stubbs never signed LTC.
SP Edison Volquez-6 yr, 39.33 million.
SP Travis Wood-3 years, 2.86 million(club option)
SP Mike Leake-3 year, 8.61 million(club option).
Custom Set-all 4 in FA
CF Drew Stubbs-6 yrs, 19.58 million(club option)
SP Edison Volquez-6 yrs, 26.82 million
SP Travis Wood-3 yr, 2.8 million(club option)
SP Mike Leake-3 yr, 8.58 million(club option).
All 4 were pre -arbitration players. The C overall A potentials(Leake and Wood)no change in price. Volquez asked for 6 million the 1st offseason rather than 4 million the roster control way. Biggest change was Stubbs-he signed a very economic deal in roster control, but wouldn't sign long term the 1st offseason even at 6 yrs 60 million. All in all, I think it's worth it, even with a slightly reduced budget.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Ok I have followed Knights steps to manual injure players and it still doesn't work for me; so I said "fine, I'll just play with injuries on." Well with injuries on, it appears that there are no injuries happening what so ever. It's driving me nuts. Is this happening with anyone else? I feel like I am missing something, but I know I am doing what Knight is telling us too because I was able to do it last year.Twitter - @I_am_Mr_MillerComment

I don't know any other way to explain this, sorry. If you want injuries to occur in games, make sure they are at least set to "On" in the Options explained above.Last edited by aktransplant007; 04-09-2011, 06:46 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Question: Should I put training to manual or auto? (same question for 29 other teams)
Does training destroy the franchise mode or should I put it in game? Because I put it to auto into the 30 teams...
same question for rehab...Comment
