I put this in this thread earlier:

      Draft Tips:

In 30 person control, you can go into other persons scouts and release them to be hired by your main team. A good way to hire a top scouting staff.

Only players over 18 appear in the draft. Never scout 16 year olds and 17 year olds only after the June Draft, unless they're the only unscouted players left.

Scout pitchers for velocity because that doesn't progress. Not sure if you can scout for break, I'll check later.

About 50%-75% of players to scout are SP, so I'd only scout 1 SP for every 4 players.

RP and CP seem to go in first 2 rounds, so try to scout 1 for every 4 players.

It goes without saying scout for potential and move on, although you might keep an eye out for players with high attribute ratings.Players with A and B attribute rating are very rare in the draft.

Don't scout B overall players(3/4 bar full) unless you think you'll be drafting high the 1st round. They usually don't show the 1st draft anyway.

Not all players you scout will appear in the draft.

In 30 person control, you can look at the other teams scout lists. It may help to find a player you haven't scouted. If you know a player is a top prospect, simply pick other players till you get to your team.
Finally, I'll add D and F potential prospects are very plentiful in the draft. Never draft a player you haven't scouted if you can help it. Last time I went thru the Amateur draft there were 2 A potential prospects and 15 Bs out of 150 players drafted.

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds

Here's a tip for one of the best ways I found to stay under the cap-don't sign anyone long term until they reach the age of 26. Player 18-25 years old will only sign 3 year deals. Starting at 26, players will want that security and will sign deals up to 6 years. Done this with Arredondo, Stubbs, Volquez, McCarthy and a number of others. So re-structure their contracts so they enter FA at 26. I'm going to re-start my franchise after realizing this.As long as they're not A overall players or maybe high Bs, you should be able to re-sign your players to very good deals.

        Examples:

        26 year old Drew Stubbs-6 yr, 14.88 million-2.4 million-yr.-B overall, A potential
        27 YO SP Brandon McCarthy-6 yr, 3.2 million-553K per year-C/A
        26 YO RP Jose Arredondo-6 yrs, 2.83 million-471K per year-C/A
        26 YO RP Bill Bray-6 yr, 6.93 million-1.1 million per year-B/B
        27 YO SP Edinson Volquez-6 yr, 24.81 million-4.1 million per year-B/B
        26 YO LF Chris Helsey- 6 yr, 2.5 million-416K per year-C/B

Just make sure your players don't progress to High Bs or As by age 26.

There's a bug that drafted players remain on the scout list after the Amateur Draft. There is a workaround for 30 person control. You can make a note of all 150 drafted players and their position, go into scouting and make sure those players aren't being scouted by your team or the other teams, but it is a bit tedious.

This is my first time owning an mlb the show 11 game. Last baseball game I had is mvp 2004. I don't even watch the sport but I can appreciate the realism in this game making it fun. To my question

I believe I am using the timing system, anyways what are your tips for hitting homeruns? I try and start the wind up just before the pitch is even released but I have had the game for two weekends and have only hit two homeruns

            TIPS?

How do I work on not swining at everything I see and pitch identification?
What is the best camera view for hitting?

So I haven't started my franchise yet and just had a question about setting up my franchise before I play: Do I need to have a 30 team user controlled franchise for it to be more realistic?? (Its a single user franchise) Thanks in advance!

                You don't HAVE to....but if you don't choose all 30 teams...my advice...turn budgets off..
                BUT...I would recommend...
                30 team control...
everything to AUTO for the 29 teams you don't want to control(except perhaps lineups/rotations to manual if that bothers you....set them AFTER spring training is done)
Have training MANUAL(and if you set up the profile assigned to the CPU teams ahead of time with it to manual AND make it default you can skip the next step)
Make sure all training is off(no check marks...YOUR team also(to be fair)..
                With this..budgets can be ON..

You can still step in where you want and make changes....but the CPU will do everything otherwise EXCEPT the two drafts.....with that..hit square for the amateur draft and it will show you their choice...you just have to pick it for them.

Alright so with the patch now I am in the first offseason of franchise and it seems like there are no big name free agents and all the free agents are resigned by their previous clubs. ie pujols, fielder etc.

Ok I am somewhat confused. I get the oct 27th negotiating deadline and there are some players that were offered arbitration and have no contract under the mange roster menu, however they do not show up on the free agent list after oct 27th.

                      Help Please.

It keeps the league from progressing at a quicker pace and in turn pricing the bigger name players out of the league as budgets get tight as salaries escalate.
If you don't stop teams from training, you'll see the big name FA stay unsigned after 4 years.
No budgets is a different way to alleviate the same problem as teams will sign the top talent then regardless.

If they were offered arbitration, they're not eligible for FA yet. They will have arbitration hearings that will determine their salary later in the offseason. You can still make an offer to them before arbitration though, and attempt to sign them in a seperate deal.A player has to have 6 years of service time before they can enter FA.

To the person who mentioned lack of FA once you get past exclusive period: you can put the other 29 teams FA(and maybe Contracts) setting to Manual to take control of all teams FA on 30 team control.that way you can make ssure some quality FA make it past exclusive period.

But then won't you have to go through every team and offer arbitration and such to every other player. I thought the patch would be so we won't have to do that anymore.

No, not if you put Contracts/FA to Auto on 30 team for the CPU profile. The Game AI will offer arbitration.
