    Re: Diamond Dynasty speculation

The way franchise has been brought along it seems that there has been a piece missing for the past 3-4 years. For example it seems to be too easy to run a franchise in relation to fianances. I think this could be more of a mode where you are given the option to buy a team and each franchise has a different value with totally different obstacles and challenges. Adding to this I would guess you now have to hire a GM (who you control), Scouts and other front office staff and development staff minors/majors.

For example buying the Yankees you would pay a much higher dollar amount to buy the team but you run the risk of going BK if you just keep spending money without watching the bottom line.

Or you could take the Royals and need to run a small market team.

    Just my 2 cents.

That would be sick. Or not necessarily completely control the GM, but have the last word in everything, or make suggestions.

This would be great, I'm thinking it might be some form of online-updating Franchise, kinda like MLB Today on 2k, but the whole Franchise updates with real-life. But I like your version better.

              Like Moneyball?

A Moneyball mode the year the movie comes out on Blu-ray/DVD, WHICH also included a promo for the game. You might be on to something.

remember - gameinformer interview says "unique look at baseball", so lets see. "competitive" was another word used in that interview.

not card game, not an ultimate team... online and offline...

Hmm, this one is really tough.

                    Okay, new theory...

You are a young son in the Diamond family, and your grandfather, Neil Diamond, wants to keep the name going strong in terms of fame, so he proposes to one-up the Ming Dynasty with the Diamond Dynasty. This mode is basically Road to the Show: The Beginning. You start off all the way back in the backyard, trying to make contact with wiffle balls. Then you play tee-ball, go through all of little league ball, play in a Babe Ruth league then high school, college, get drafted, and everything else just like RttS.

But wait! Now you must carry on the Diamond Dynasty with your son! Now you must coach your son to become a major league star, just like you were. You are so successful that during this time you also become a manager for a team. Eventually you become so rich thanks to Grampy Neil, and you buy an organization and become the owner. You make Moneyball-like decisions until you die.

Sadly, I think this is the closest to this yet unveiled mode as we're going to get. I really have no idea what this is, and I'm totally stoked for it! For all we know, it's a football game within the baseball game.

I think this is it, but you are a little off. The pinnacle of this game mode is you finally get called up to the majors and get to hear Sweet Caroline sung at Fenway.

One thing that bugs me is that it's been said the mode provides a totally new way of enjoying baseball.

Does this mean it's really not baseball as we know it (some sort of gimmickry mode, like fantasy)? Or it's still baseball in authentic ways but just the way it unfolds on the video game is different?

                            New idea:

It could be something where you play online with 29 other people and you're a GM, and you basically play through a season the time that it takes you would play through an entire game. You watch game scores simulate through with some sufficient speed, you get to see on-the-fly stats, you slow up for front office management such as trades, call-ups/send-downs, handling injuries, etc. You don't actually watch baseball on the screen, but it's a nice way of just getting through dozens of seasons through a simulated version of baseball.

This could technically also be done offline.

Interesting, but this can technically be done already with online league in MLB11. (just not very sophisticated yet, and certainly not geared toward simming...)

There are many ideas in this thread that I think is fun to implement, but most have already been implemented in other sports games I suppose. (There, my lack of catching up to the current sports gaming scene hurts...)
